Hi ladies, here is a thread to get us started. The support of other 'Maysters' has been so valuable, would hate to miss out on this once babies arrive. I have a feeling we are still going to have lots of questions and experiences to share! Smile

Marking my place -thanks Just!!

Now come on Kitlet-I'm ready for you now!!!

Justyouwaitandsee · 30/04/2015 17:48

Thanks for not leaving me on my own! I think we are just about ready too! Just put away all baby's clothes, toys and toiletries in the nursery having finished refurbishing an old chest of drawers. I also talked my DH through all the hospital bags and everything I have bought/packed so far - we even have a list of things we need to take to ensure he doesn't forget to pack anything! Smile

Marking my place as my May baby arrived early Grin

LinaDee · 01/05/2015 18:08

Looks like I'll be here sooner than I thought - going in for induction on Sunday night Grin x

Justyouwaitandsee · 01/05/2015 18:26

Oh you went for it then?! Eek! How exciting. But everything seemed fine with baby? Mine does seem quieter but I had put it down to moving down / running out of space. Gah - pregnancy is sometimes just constant worry!!

LinaDee · 01/05/2015 23:25

Everything fine with baby Just. New protocols apparently. They will offer induction to anyone who presents with reduced fetal movement after 39 weeks. Just want baby here safe now and feel so much more in control knowing what will happen and when

Chookford · 02/05/2015 07:17

I'm marking place so I don't lose thread, but still have a while to go yet! Wink

Marking my place and also adding my birth story here for anybody that wants to read.

Leo was born on the 11/04/15 at 1.01pm at 34 weeks weighing 5ib 15oz.
I had been having signs and symptoms since 29 weeks. Started with blood streaked mucus plug loss first and by 31 weeks had an horrible constant period cramp pain in my back it would be there most days. By 32 weeks loose bowels kicked in along with random vomiting. Braxton hicks were happening more frequent and some days id have a full day of painful contractions. The plug loss continued every day until I had him. Sometimes it would be just green, others it would be green and blood streaked. This was all the warm up lol
When I turned 34 weeks I went on a walk with my kiddies and sis, by 2.30pm I noticed I was contracting every 6 mins although mild pain at first. By 5.30pm pain was much worse and u had a massive ache In my lower region and bottom, I was still losing streaked plug, so I rang triage. I was put on a monitor which showed regular contractions, so then I was swabbed with an actum partis test (tells you if labour is imminent within 2wk) this come back negative and at 99% accurate it sent me deeply condused as to how I was having all this pain but apparently wasnt having a baby any time soon. So I was sent home (Wednesday) and then the next day I had my 34 week midwife appointment, straight away she wasnt happy and rang triage and had me sent back up. When I got back there pains were now showing closer together and had intensified much more, I was then asked to stay in the night which I couldnt as I had no childcare arranged, so we agreed that id have the steriod injection as a precaution and return the next day (friday) for the second dose. Which I did. Friday the pains had gone further apart but much more painful when they came. So friday night I had 2 baths and then went to bed. I was awoken at 2am with the nasty period cramps again in my back but fell back and then from 4.30 regular pains were waking me up but I kwpt drifting off between them. 6.30 came I stood up and had a big contraction I couldnt breath felt like somebody was tying a belt around my waist and had such pressure down below, so went to toilet and when I wiped it was just all blood on the tissue. So went and woke dp up and then rang mum. She arranged to pick me up at 8am, then we would go to asda for the rest of my hospital bag, so in meantime I got a bath, but abit of makeup on and sorted my bits out that I needed to take. Mum arrived at 8 and by this time the pains were 3 mins from start of a contraction to start of the next one. So I decided there was no time for asda. When we arrived at hospital I was 5cm and took down to labour ward where I then had my tens machine put on, I had a quick scan to determine if baby was definitely head down which he was, but informed he was also back to back. I was on a monitor the whole time so was only allowed to lay on my back as he was preterm and they needed to check there was no issues with him during. I wasnt checked again after the first examination and by 12.30pm I was getting rather worked up that my waters were still intact lol as all my previous births they had been popped for me, I asked her to break them but she couldn't as again he was preterm. At 12.45pm I decided I wanted to have abit of gas and air as I was starting to tense up with fear of pushing with my waters intact lol stupid I know and 8 mins later the gas was taken off me as the midwife said she could see external movement so I was ready to push, so just before 12.55 I started to push and after a few mins my waters exploded all over as I was pushing and drenched the poor midwife. With 3 more pushes my baby wasn born at 1.01pm and lifted straight to my chest, they decided that delayed cord clamping was the best option for him as he was early so they left it a while while he layed on me. I didnt have the injection in my leg to speed up placenta seperation either. Cord was then clamped and cut and the baby doctor came and checked him over and then he was taken to scbu.

My birth was not what id imagined and hoped for, but it was still such a positive experience for the circumstances :)

Sorry its so long and sorry for the lack of puntuation etc. I did it on my phone so just rushed it best I could lol.

Scottishgal78 · 02/05/2015 13:04

Wow mum that's some birth story! Well done you! Am I right in saying you had placenta come away a whole after the birth? Do you think that had anything to do with not having the injection?

Yes, apparently it was intact when it come away. But the following peice come away last weekend 2week post partum. I did suggest it could be a reason for it all not coming away as it took quite some time to come away and midwife had to press my tummy and gently try and help it to seperate so that bit might have stayed attached to my womb but guess I will never know if not having the injection caused it or not.

applecore0317 · 03/05/2015 05:54

Marking my place, also ages to go.

Thanks for sharing that Mum! Glad you are well on the road to recovery and that Leo is doing much better.

mumxof3x · 03/05/2015 11:48

Thankyou apple :)

GinIsCalling · 03/05/2015 12:50

mum that's a great birth story. I found pushing so painful this time around, maybe the waters actually cushioned it?
I'm lying in hospital with my milk guzzling monster wishing we were home. I haven't slept a wink as I feel like I need to watch her constantly, although I know I need my rest. I am not relaxed here.

LinaDee · 03/05/2015 17:42

Yay! I'm officially in the post natal club!
I will post a short version of the birth story once I've had a bit of a rest and things have settled down a little Smile
Hope everyone is well!!

Justyouwaitandsee · 03/05/2015 18:09

Congrats Lina - I am very jealous! Holding out at the moment as I'm trying to ensure I am in active labour before heading to the hospital. Don't want to go too soon only to be sent home xx

Congrats gin n lina.
Gin im not sure I found it worse with my waters there then when they had been broke during labour. But with him been back to back too my bottom was killing lol. But for a back to back baby he come relatively fast as I was pushing for 2 hour with ds2 who was also back to back. Just shows how different they all are xx

mumxof3x · 03/05/2015 20:08

P.s hope you get home soon gin where you can be comfortable xx

Threesoundslikealot · 03/05/2015 20:15

Hi. Just marking my place. Mumx3, thank you for your story. Good luck, Just! And congratulations to Lina, and all the others with babies already here.

BeanCalledPickle · 04/05/2015 12:51

Wow you really forget how the early days are. I thought we were totally prepared. So not! Three days old now and starting to get things sorted gradually. My lovely husband whisked the baby away at 9am and I slept till eleven. Feels amazing!!

Turquoisetamborine · 06/05/2015 18:22

Hello! How is everyone doing now? Charlie is 2 weeks old today. Getting weighed again tomorrow on yet another set of scales and I'm hoping he's put some weight on as everyone (midwives) is obsessed with him being small. He's feeding like a trooper though.
How is everyone managing sleep? We had a better night last night as I managed to get him down in his Moses basket for a couple of hours in between feeds and H took him for a couple of hours from 10pm so I could sleep and gave him some ebm. I actually feel ok but tonight could be worse again!
The bednest we rented has been relegated to the spare room as he just doesn't like it, he prefers his Moses basket. Maybe he will like it when he's older.
I am enjoying having a baby again but just not the constant daily presence of the midwives due to his weight.

LinaDee · 08/05/2015 08:27

Hey turquoise - hope Charlie has put on a wee bit and the midwife can finally get you passed over to the health visitor. Hopefully they see he's feeding well and thriving! It's good that the bednest was rented and can go back if he's not keen! My little one is 5 days old today - the first 2 nights he was not keen on going in his Moses basket at all but the last 2 nights have been much better (He went to bed at 11, was up at 3am for feed and change, back down by 4 and up again at 8)
He is feeding like a trouper too - my poor boobs/nipples don't know what's hit them haha!!

Justyouwaitandsee · 09/05/2015 05:21

Hey everyone, just trying to catch back up - still in the process of getting settled at home with Esme. She is just coming onto day 4 and we have been home right from the start. The first couple of nights were tricky - she really didn't like her Bednest and only wanted to sleep on mummy or daddy's chest. When the MW came on day 3 (we were forgotten on day 2) she said this was entirely normal as babies are not used to being on their backs or the outside world. We worked around this by taking it in shifts to sit up with her.

Since then, we have been working to build her confidence of lying on her back, lying in her bed-nest and not being held (easier said than done when my DH constantly wants snuggles...!) I have been trying to ensure that we lay her down when we eat etc so we can enjoy a meal together.

Today I feel we made another big step forward. First we had a 2hr family nap this afternoon where Esme did consent to spending at least some of the time in her cot. Then she went down again in her cot after her last feed before bed and gave me an hour / 11/2hrs sleep to start the night. This has meant I've felt able to do the rest of the night alone and DH has been able to so far sleep through.

We have got into a nice relaxed routine of hourly feeds of 10/20mins followed by a 30/40min nap. This is enough to keep me refreshed. DH will then get up with her from about 6ish and aim to give me a couple of hrs without her bedside me. This gives my mummy alarm a chance to switch off and prevents my breasts getting to full or leaking (which they do if she is within my earshot. This means I will get some proper quality sleep and time for my body to repair/recover (I am still quite sore from labour in terms of lochia, swelling, piles, contracting uterus, jelly middle Sad) - is that the same for everyone??

Oops - looks like it might well be a 5:30am wake up for DH as she definitely appears to be filling her nappy!! Wink
