We've no time for JSing. We're battling green nappies, sleepless nights, x-box playing men and trying to hide our sling addictions. Fuck it, let's do a runner on a golf cart.

A lovely thread for all the JS Grad Grads to chat feeding, sleep and post-birth STUFF.

Roll call please ladies and perhaps add the number of slings and buggies you have acquired at the time of posting... wink

What sling did you get Juni?

Zyla now I've started putting BabyPis down at 9 I've started giving a dream feed when I go to bed (usually around midnight). Seems to help with regulating overnight supply. Alternatively I pump in the mornings when I get the chance as there's always plenty then. She's still quite small so I'm trying to get as much in her as possible. It seems everyone IRL has much bigger babies. DP called me earlier to say he's seen his neighbour's granddaughter who is a day older than BabyPis and how big she was and how 'she's clearly thriving'. I'm sure he didn't mean to say BabyPis isn't thriving but since DS was officially considered as 'failing to thrive' as a baby the terminology stung a bit.

JuniDD · 21/06/2015 21:57

Wasn't me on the weaning course. My weaning method is give baby crust of bread, baby throws on floor, hope for the best!

I got a Firespiral celeste in green size 4. I would've liked one of their alchemy range but this is special too. They are so gorgeous. But no more slings for me now and I may sell my 6 if I get on with it.

tee it's still such early days, the crying and the birth being "unawesome" are really affecting but it Does Get Better.

Baby is still up and MrJ, in his wisdom, has put Dangermouse on. He couldn't have chosen a more stimulating programme if he'd tried. Angry

JuniDD · 21/06/2015 21:59

Oh and Pis a woman at the conference today kept going on and on about TEENY TINY babyj apparently is. Whatevs. Small babies ftw I say. Someone's gotta be at the other end of the bell curve, innit.

cookielove · 21/06/2015 22:19

min I saw you asked about the sleep training I will reply tomorrow as I am heading to bed and cannot be bothered to write it all out again (I wrote it out earlier and the internet ate it)

tee my stitches popped around the same time the midwife's said it was fine and it would heal on its own, it did!

Pisghetti · 22/06/2015 00:19

Ooh nice Juni! I can only do a FWCC with a woven so far. Really need to expand my repertoire. Do you back carry J?

minimooo · 22/06/2015 06:34

tee I can't help with exact details of fanjo stitches because dd came out through the sunroof, but I just wanted to say that healing from birth (however the littl'uns come out) can be really upsetting. I've pulled my cs stitches a few times now and each time I do it I have a couple of days of tears. The healing process seems to take forever, especially when all you want to do is look after your baby, but try not to worry, it will all heal up soon and everything will get easier. I found that the first 2 weeks were the worst, then it all started to heal and knit together Smile

I'm getting jealous of you all using your slings! I've got a stretchy sling (I think it's a Moby) upstairs and I haven't been able to use it yet because of my cs wound Sad Hopefully, I'll be able to have a play with it soon. I'm intrigued by the ring slings - will have to have a looksy at them.

Another one here wondering what the shush patting is?!

ZylaB · 22/06/2015 06:56

pis I dont think a dream feed would work cos we go to bed about 10ish cos we're old DH gets up at 6 for work. I keep setting my alarm to get up and pump but rarely actually get up. I really should get my act together! I can't pump in the morning as H empties both sides in a feeding frenzy hehe, and then feeds a lot during the day, so it's either middle of the night or not at all. Luckily I already have enoughin the freezer for our longer trip out on mon next week to go see derren brown!

PixieChops · 22/06/2015 09:37

Tee your birth is exactly like mine with DD. I had 3rd degree tear with episiotomy and forceps. It felt like I had a boxing glove between my legs for about 2 weeks. Personally I think it depends on your surgeon and how good they are. Apparently mine were amazing and the midwife checked them every time she came and couldn't even see the stitches in the end. Mine healed fine but I am concerned that nobody has offered to look at them since they've been done. If you're really concerned ten if get yourself booked in with the doctor rather than waiting for your appointment. They may be able to reassure you about what's going on down there. Even though my stitches were really well done I still have internal scarring and sex does still hurt from time to time (when we get chance Grin).
You're much braver than me though Tee. I was too scared to look at my food and still haven't looked at it since!

PixieChops · 22/06/2015 09:41

Aww Pis just ignore that comment, how big was your baby? I can't quite remember. My first was only 6lb 14 and she was a little dot of a thing. As long as baby is eating and seeming to stay along (vague let) on their predicted line you have nothing to worry about. My DD went a bit below and has done a few times but it's nothing to really get concerned about. Unmumsnetty hugs for you. Brew

Minion · 22/06/2015 10:04

pis deffo ignore sizest bastard comments. Someone I went to school with was born just under 11 pounds if I recall and he grew to the ripe old size of 5 foot 4!
Likewise a lady who I know had a tiny dot of a baby, 5lb something and he's gaining weight almost in front of our eyes!
Every time I see him, I swear he's got an extra flabby roll!
S cute.

Well last night was much better, it's got to be her teeth I think. We've had a root around her mouth and it looks like her two top ones may make an appearance first. That seems to be where she rubs everything and anything on, getting very red and almost blister like.
She went down at 8 and only woke at 12 for a bottle, then 3:30 with no fannying about, which I can handle! However went till 7!
Now that's more like it.

She's currently in her morning nap and I've found out if I wait exactly 2 hours after her getting up and pop her in her sleeping bag, in her got, she'll go longer than 45 mins!
Score!

First time swimming this morning, I'm nervous. She's wriggly enough as it is!
Eeek

WilHarlot · 22/06/2015 12:17

Enjoy swimming!

Agree about ignoring size comments. I love having a tiny one - much easier to carry around. She has dropped two centile lines since birth but HV says she looks fine and just was never meant to be where she was born at. She also said at no other point in life would we ever look for a person to be chubby and that it was healthy to be skinny. Made me feel better anyway.

Shush patting is literally just patting baby whilst lying in crib and saying 'shh'. Has never resulted in anything other than screaming here.

Tee I was 5 weeks before being healed from episiotomy. There will always be scarring but I had a really big cut into the muscle. I was probably quite traumatised from the birth until my next birth which thankfully made me feel better about the whole process. If you can walk properly then that's a good sign you're on the mend.

Minion · 22/06/2015 13:30

Fuuuuccckkkk it! She was asleep til I got her upstairs, she had a measly 2oz and is now wide a freaking wake!
Should have left her in her car seat.
She liked swimming however

Pisghetti · 22/06/2015 13:48

Thanks ladies. She seems to be doing everything she should be so I have nothing to worry about. I'm just a bit touchy about it. I popped her on the bathroom scales earlier and consulted the red book of doom and she seems to have settled pretty much between the 25th and 50th which means a) she's following a curve now even if she did start higher and b) she's not unusually small for her age!

We had booby group this morning and she chuckled happily away in a play nest and then impressed the other ladies by falling asleep. Since we've got home she's screamed the house down and refuses to move from my lap so lunch hasn't happened yet Hmm she stinks too but I daren't disturb her Shock she's just stirring so I might have to go in there. Wish me luck Grin

ZylaB · 22/06/2015 14:14

H has been following the 25th percentile since she actually started feeding and it pisses me off when people say she's small. That said I think she's a chunky porker now so I'll see if she's moved up or is just heading for a spurt.

WilHarlot · 22/06/2015 16:02

Good luck Pis, hope you have your snorkel handy Wink .

We're down on 9th centile so I'm sure your two are positively huge by comparison Grin .

ZylaB · 22/06/2015 18:28

Yay week 3 of couch to 5k done, though I don't believe I'll be jogging for 30mins in another 6 weeks! And I definately won't be doing 5k with the speeds I go at, but still :)

Nessalina · 22/06/2015 19:21

Hey folks, I'm way out of the loop again, I feel like I get about 15mins of leisure time a day at the minute!
Bah! to silly sizeist comments Angry There's supposed to be variety between babies, they're all individuals so someone has to be the littlest Grin Thats how centiles work for goodness sake - it's a mathematical impossibility for everyone to be above the average weight!

minimooo · 22/06/2015 23:13

E was on the 4th centile last time I checked! She was a tiny little dot at 5lb 7oz when she was born. What she lacks in size, she makes up for in cuteness!

Hope swimming went well pis and that B enjoyed it.

Well done with the jogging zyla, that's ace!

cookielove · 23/06/2015 10:04

min sleep training:

My issue was that E was dependent in milk to fall asleep and when waking in the night would only fall asleep if I gave him a bottle. After going on a course they said that the baby had to be at least 8 months to train although I know other health visitors have said 6 months!

So the next day I put E down in his cot for a nap instead of falling asleep on the bottle and napping on me, he did well with that but I did sit with him and patted/rubbed his back! That night i gave him his last bottle before his bath, after his bath I took him to his bedroom and got him ready for bed, two stories then popped into bed, stayed with him patting his back, he went off rather quickly. Some within 2hrs and that was hard core getting him back off, I refused to get him out of the cot and if course no bottle so he had a huge tantrum which lasted around an hr, I sat next to him patting his back he would of gone of a bit quicker but he was sobbing loudly :( and it was disturbingly him! He woke again at 3 and again I just sat with him patting his back.

From then on unless we are out and about all his naps are in his cot. The next night we had the wake up at 3 am, which took about an hr to settle. The next night he stirred at 3 and I was unsure to go in, I did and he got very cross until he settled the next night he woke again and I left him to it and he resettled within 5 - 10 minutes and now sometimes he wakes and resettles or sleeps right through! Sorry that was long Grin

Minion · 23/06/2015 14:59

Thanks for that cookie, I think R is going to head the same way tbh.
She now takes all her naps in her cot but thankfully not on the bottle. Last night was shit again really.
She went down at 7:30 and stirred exactly 4 hours (always bloody 4 hours) and fell asleep in my arms, wasn't really interested in bottle, but she had a bit, then she was up for ages at 2:30 for a full bottle.
It's ridiculous cause she then went till 6:45 with no bottle and didn't fancy her 7am one either, so I put most of it in her porridge, she's just not bothered about eating in the day and it's really starting to affect my health (drama queen)!

Right, I'm off to do some research.

cookielove · 23/06/2015 15:02

min how old is she now?

teejayem · 23/06/2015 15:43

Thanks for the insight ladies - I had the stitches checked by the MW yesterday and she said they were healing just fine, and not to worry. We've been discharged from midwife care now too Smile I've got a follow up with the perineal clinic and physio and gp in a few weeks and feel heaps better about it all.
TT got weighed by MW yesterday who's as really happy with the weight he's put back on, but I had the bloody health visitor this morning and he is 1oz off his birth weight (8lb) and she's made a bit of a thing about it. He's feeding really well and is producing all the goods in nappies, and she had the nerve to say to me that I seemed awfully relaxed given he wasn't back at his birth weight yet . One OUNCE. ONE!! And that he was 25th percentile for everything, but really 50 is better, so don't let him drop, blah blah. Is this typical of health visitors? It seemed like an exercise in ticking boxes and pearl clutching, and telling me I should go to baby massage. Mr tee said I had my best resting hate face on, i was trying to channel for TT to pee all over her while she was poking him about. Sadly he didn't.
Really wasn't prepared for the two week feeding frenzy - we boobed non stop last night from 11-2 and I was buggered by the end of it. We are currently in the middle of the afternoon boob and I've drunk and litre of chocolate milk to try and keep awake!

ZylaB · 23/06/2015 15:53

tee H didn't get back to her birth weight until 5 weeks, she was so slow starting to gain, don't worry about it. Oh and 50th percentile isn't 'better' than 25th, it's different. Not all babies are the same size, fffs I get so wound up by that! Grr on your behalf!

WilHarlot · 23/06/2015 16:24

That's fucking stupid. Why is 50th better than any other number? She sounds dim.

JuniDD · 23/06/2015 16:37

Your HV sounds like a dick! Ignore her.
