Leah just won't sleep today. She's not upset but just wide awake. Trying to lull her to sleep with boob but I fear it will be a long night.

Hello everyone. Nice to see you all popping back in.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/06/2015 21:33

Good news on weight smogsville!

I'd be happy for Sam to be awake if he were happy kismac but he rarely does more than 30mins before he starts being whingey Sad. Hope awake day means you get a tired baby at night!

Wineandchoccy · 01/06/2015 21:34

Welcome back to the group everyone Smile

I got some great advice from the bf group, they showed me different positions + how to cup feed with a special cup that they have given me. Dd seems a lot more settled as well. I have bought some medela nipple shields just in case.
It's at a local childrens centre and we stayed for the baby group where we made rattles and fingerprint key rings, I don't know whether dd enjoyed herself because she slept for most of it but it was lovely to meet other Mums and get out of the house.

I have my post natal check tomorrow and then I am going to baby massage in the afternoon.

PenguinPoser · 01/06/2015 21:34

Gah I wrote a long message but it's disappeared! Can't remember my replies to people sorry! Angry

I'm sat listening to baby monitor as for the first time I've put dd to bed upstairs... Took her up at 8 put in sleeping bag, lights off then fed and down in carrycot about 8.45. She was awake but not crying so I left her and I heard her sneeze on the monitor which was soooo cute! Think she's asleep now will go and check her in a minute. Problem being she's in our room and we aren't in bed or ready for bed!

DH is out playing football although I'm hoping he is home soon... It's chucking down with rain and blowing a gale. He's going to be soaked and freezing. I have the kettle hot waiting for him!

Water babies this afternoon was good although dd cried at the end. The instructor thought she might be a bit cold so is going to loan us a wetsuit next week to keep her warm!

PenguinPoser · 01/06/2015 21:36

Cross post Wineandchoccy- sounds lovely! I think the fingerprint key rings are a great idea - I want one! Grin

TheBooMonster · 01/06/2015 21:38

oh yikes moo teeth would be terrifying at 8 weeks Shock

Evies's 9 weeks...10 weeks... 10 weeks. blimey where has the time gone?! I'm going to have to clear the pile of laundry by where we're sleeping though, she was noming at it noisily, desperately looking for milk which is what woke me up...

Gah! Been trying to get DD to sleep since 10 to no avail!! So tired!

FiRaffe · 02/06/2015 01:47

Wow so busy again! Welcome back ladies

Hope DD has gone down now littlegrey. Is she just refusing to sleep or go in her cot/basket? If the latter i'd definitely cuddle her blanket or whatever she'll sleep in and pop a hot water bottle in to warm the bed, it might help as it'll be warm and smell of you.

Great news on the feeding help and class Wine. I went to our baby cafe today and they were a bit confused why he was hurting me and clicking as by the outside look all is okay. ....We fight on!

It's blowing a gale out there and DS took ages to settle after his feed. Hopefully he will go down soon.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 02/06/2015 02:54

She's still going Fi! She just isn't dozing off. We often Co sleep which would be fine if she'd just sleep! I blame the wind!! Sad

PenguinPoser · 02/06/2015 05:26

Oh littlegreycat I hope you've managed to get some sleep! You have probably tried this anyway but lights off, quiet room no stimulation? Worked for me last night (although not to say it will keep working!!) the wind was awful though so not surprised if it unsettled her.

Boo I know where has the time gone.... DD over 11 weeks now. I can't believe it! 11 weeks ago I thought I couldn't cope yet here I am!

Plans for the day anyone?? I don't have any... Good in a way can chill and watch TV/call the midwife DVD if dd naps. If the weather is better will get out for a walk hopefully I get cabin fever stuck inside! That's how I knew I was recovered from the birth and initial couple of weeks - my cabin fever came back!

I have a post feed dozy baby.... Fingers crossed back to bed!

PenguinPoser · 02/06/2015 05:29

Meant to ask FiRaffe is the pain getting any better?

FiRaffe · 02/06/2015 05:44

Still really painful feeding Penguin. I hate main lining paracetamol but it's the only way I can feed my son.

Sorry to hear that littlegrey. Wish they would be consistent hey!

Today is DS's 6-8 week check with the hv, then someone is coming to quote for a new front door. It's baby massage this afternoon too....hopefully I will still be awake by then, my brain won't seem to let me sleep although i'm shattered!

How about everyone else?

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 02/06/2015 05:57

You're doing such a good job feeding through the pain FiRaffe. I found it tough enough with mastitis and that only lasted a few days.

She finally went down at 3:15 and woke us both up with a giant poo at 5:45. No plans for the day luckily. I think we'll both be knackered!! I thought maybe it's because we've cut out the top ups I was giving her as supply has picked up? Maybe she's just not quite as full as she had been? Not sure but she better go back down after this feed!!

Jetpackplease · 02/06/2015 06:09

DS went down at 12.30, wide awake 2.30 - 4.45. Awake again at 5.10. Then tried side lying feeding and co-sleeping but he woke again after a few mins. Now sleeping on me and I know if I put him down he will wake again within 15 mins and we start over... I don't think I can get through today without any sleep.

Fi hope the nipple shields help.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2015 07:00

That really sucks LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar and jetpackplease! Hope you get some sleep tonight.

I always keep Sam with me until dh is in bed but he gives me hassle because he has to get everything ready for bed so I put him down last night and what does he do? Banged the lock of the front door so loud it woke him. I was then up feeding him back to sleep while dh snored! He then woke an hour later and I fed him again but don't remember a lot of it!!! More like zombie feed than dream feed! His feed at 4.30 was pretty short though and he was asleep when I left to walk the dogs!

First day back to school today and ds2 wasn't well last night so could be taxing! He had tonsillitis symptoms but we'll see this morning. Didn't eat as throat to sore, yellow tongue, high temp and aching neck Sad

Wineandchoccy · 02/06/2015 08:09

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollarand jetpackplease I hope you manage some rest today and have a better night tonight.

firaffe sorry I can't remember but has DS been checked for tongue tie? The clicking sound is a common sign that there is a tongue tie and if so that could be causing you the pain. The midwifes, Health visitors were adamant that Eleanor didn't have one but I pushed for a referral to the oral surgeon and she did have one and since it has been cut my pain has gone. The only issue I have now is since the tongue tie appt she has had to learn the latch again and she sucks really hard and I think this led to my nipple bleeding.

After the clinic yesterday on their advice I expressed before I fed into a bottle, then bf and then DH gave the expressed milk. I have quite small boobs and when they watched me feed they said to hold dd higher up as basically I was dragging my boob down, I have changed positions and since I have had no bleeding.

I hope ds2 is ok cinnamon

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2015 14:44

Ds2 is dosed up but went downhill as I dropped him at nursery, they promised to call if he wasn't ok and my stepdad could collect him. Otherwise he'd have had to walk home with me and walk back to collect everyone else later too. I've got the car tomorrow so will keep him home if he's not improved.

I bf Sam when it suited me rather than him for the first time today. He was happy to be fed but it seemed odd to feed him because it suited my schedule! He woke up at 8, I dressed him and he chatted in his bouncy chair despite me putting him back to bed at 5.20 this morning so I fed him before school run. He then slept in the sling until 11 and was awake again for a bit before wanting milk, it's a new thing which I quite like!

FiRaffe · 02/06/2015 17:07

Hope your DS is okay cinnamon. Great news on Sam being fed on your schedule though!

He was checked before discharge at hospital Wine and they said he was fine.... He opens hia mouth well and his tongue seems to move well when he's screaming but I don't know. It's just tough and i'm half tempted to do a few days of bottles but it might affect my supply too much, I just don't know

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2015 17:08

Can you take a pic and post it FiRaffe? Those with experience may be able to shed some light!

He seems ok although they said he was quiet, thank you.

Wineandchoccy · 02/06/2015 19:07

firaffe when DS sticks his tongue out does the end go into a heart shape?
That is a sign of tongue tie also a clicking sound when you are feeding.
Dd was checked in hospital, 3 x midwifes, 2 x HV before I insisted on the referral because I was convinced she had one.

We have been to the 1st baby massage today and it has absolutely wiped dd out she fell asleep after the session, fed and is back asleep in her Moses basket. Its very strange for the house to be so quiet, both her and the cat are snoring and snuffling away Grin I'm going to have an hours nap just in case we have a bad night with all the sleep this afternoon.

FiRaffe · 02/06/2015 19:44

I will try. He's asleep in my arms at the moment which is nice. He fed through baby massage, so impressed with you dd Wine!!!

I'm very tired and ready for bed. Hope my brain switches off tonight!

PenguinPoser · 02/06/2015 20:37

Ooh that baby massage sounds good Wineandchoccy- I think I'm on one starting this month but they haven't said when yet Hmm

Fi sometimes the tongue tie can be easily dismissed - Sophie's was quite far back but stopped her lifting her tongue high enough even though she could stick it out ok. Not saying it's definitely the problem but still could be. Sounds like you're having an awful time Sad

Cinnamon pleased your ds2 is ok and that ds3 was able to go along with your schedule today Smile long may it continue.

Hope you have better nights tonight jetpackplease and littlegreycat. It's soul destroying being up that often. I'm lucky we've had a few decent nights touch wood.... According to wonder weeks the third leap starts tomorrow though so we shall see.

Went for a 2 mile walk at lunchtime then unexpected visit from SIL this afternoon. DD napped on the walk and while I had lunch. She's been awake since 2.45 though so she's tired. In the bedroom now feeding and she's just dozed off so fingers crossed I can get her transferred and she's asleep. Then can have some cheesecake and strawberries with DH before we come to bed.

MoominMama22 · 02/06/2015 21:05

Firaffe how old is DS? Have you had this pain non stop? In the nipple? Is it still sore when he comes off? Sorry I'm a bit late to this story.
It sounds brutal. I was in pain and thought I couldn't do it but it was just for the first couple of weeks and now my nipples have toughened up and she has got better at feeding.

I think my DD (8 wwks ) sleeps too much, I have no idea what's normal really and I have my antenatal reunion/baby massage tomorrow but I don't want to say about her sleep and compare notes because some sleep deprived women may stab me...

When your babies are awake are they happy? And how long can they stay awake for in a happy state? DDs long awake periods seem to be just evening colic time. The other tines she is awake and happy doesn't last long and she is back to sleep. If I do anything with her she falls asleep ( car, pram, babybjorn) tell me this is normal for an 8 week old?
