That's rubbish it's too painful to feed FiRaffe! Really hope someone helps Tuesday. If it's been drunk from you can keep it at room temp for a couple of hours to offer again but then throw it. Try kellymom for storage info, I find it a horrible website to navigate but has lots of info.

Thanks wineandchoccy! Sam was asleep by 2.30, ds1 was up being sick again at 3, Sam woke at 3.45 but was back down by 4.30 and the three of us are up now. Ds2 and dss slept all night and dh has woken up when I have but is sleeping now. He's been very hot all night though and was sick a couple of times too Sad hope you got a bit more sleep!

Did she go back down PenguinPoser? Enjoy your visits. We are supposed to be going to a local town as they have a Whitsun festival and have a beach in the town centre, carosel, jack sparrow and lots of activities and then swimming.

FiRaffe · 25/05/2015 08:43

I hope so too cinnamon - i'll be on the phone first thing in the morning!

Sounds a he'll of a night cinnamon. I hope you don't get it too - you have enough to deal with!

Thanks Hiding - I thought as much but puts my mind at ease to ask.

Hope everyone has a lovely bank holiday... I think we're staying in and watching Game of Thrones (we're only on season 2!). Hopefully a relaxing day will help my body recover too

PenguinPoser · 25/05/2015 13:18

Yeah dinnamon she went back down for a couple of hours but I couldn't get back to sleep - usually I'm straight back off. She woke again about 6ish and DH got her up and changed her. We then had a lying down feed and DH held her so I could have another hours sleep.

Cinnamon I really hope you don't get ill too and your DS1 and DH are better very soon. Hope it hasn't spoiled your plans for the day.

FiRaffe where is the pain and what is it like? Did you say it was both boobs? Is it the nipples or more inside? Really hope it gets sorted soon it sounds horrible.

Jetpackplease · 25/05/2015 17:09

Thanks for the support ladies. I'm at my wits' end. DS slept 12-1.40 am last night and then woke every 30/40 mins after being put down until DH took him at 8.30. I'm basically getting no sleep at night and I have no idea where this new pattern has come from.

Wine when I started giving infacol at most feeds or a max dose I found he was sicking up more, so I cut back. Same with the gripe water. I haven't tried colief yet - will ask the GP about it, though I do have some that I bought otc. I just get wary of giving him stuff when I can't be sure that he needs it. I've tried baths and massages before bed but it hasn't made a difference to his sleep.

penguin we have a chicco co-sleeping cot so I haven't tried him actually in bed with me. Might give it a go in the morning.

I have noticed that he's much less fussy and windy when DH gives him ebm from a bottle. I'm not sure if DS is getting lazy or confused switching between breast and bottle. DH is home 4 days per week and has been giving him a bottle or two between 8/9 - 11/12 in the mornings while I catch up on sleep. So most of his feeds are still from the breast. However those bottle feeds are the only thing preserving my sanity at the moment so I don't want to cut them out when DH is here.

Ds slept for 3 hours on ds this afternoon - his longest stretch for days. I tried breast feeding when he woke. He fed a bit but there was lots of fussing, pulling off the breast and screaming. He has now fallen asleep on me Confused

I might try going to bed at 7 tonight and asking DH to bring DS to me at 11 so I can rest before the night shift. It means another bottle feed or two, but DH is at work tomorrow so I will be home alone 7am - 9.30pm and won't have a chance to get any sleep in the morning.

Gah. I'm at a loss.

Hope everyone is having a good bank holiday.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/05/2015 17:43

Perhaps it is related to your fast let down then jetpackplease or maybe he gets the milk faster from the bottle and he's impatient? So sorry you're getting so little sleep, I'm getting more than you during the night but can't catch up during the day and it's a killer!

Thanks FiRaffe and PenguinPoser, we be had a row free night and day so far! We didn't swim as we planned to as I don't want to spread a sickness bug they're too miserable but we did get out. The boys dug in the temporary beach and got free rock. We watched Punch and Judy and petted some farm animals as well as watching circus tricks, a ride on the carousel and a frappacino for dh and I so a good day all round. We've now got a picky tea and I will take the dogs for a wander in a bit. So far dss, ds2 and I haven't shown any signs of sickness thankfully!

FiRaffe · 25/05/2015 17:49

Sounds a good day cinnamon.

The pain is deep on the breasts mainly Penguin, and around the areola. Definitely not the nipple. It feels really bruised when he is feeding especially around where he is latched and the rest of the time like someone is repeatedly stabbing me in the breast. All good fun......

brummagem · 25/05/2015 18:32

Oh Jet (hugs) it sounds horrible. I don't have much to add to the excellent advice offered by others. Could it be reflux? Generally bottle feeds are more upright than breastfeeding which might be why he takes bottles better. I have no idea how they take on so much air when breastfeeding. It's like they getwind that hurts then they get tired but can't sleep because wind is hurting them so they get more overtired. It's not great!

DS suffers massively from trapped wind too. The only time he sleeps in blocks when not being held is after his formula feeds at night with DH, in the morning after big feed or when out & about for a walk or in the car.

Hope everyone feels better soon!

Glad things have been better today cinnamon.

Might try expressing in the morning after I wake up and boobs are like bowling balls. Would much rather DS had ex bm rather than formula how much would a 3 week old need each feed? I know formula is huge amounts about 4-5oz for DS at this weight! I don't think I could produce 8oz a day to express! I also read on interwebs that expressing can diminish supply too Confused don't interwebs it's bad for your sanity!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/05/2015 18:59

Expressing won't finish reply as long as you're still feeding as well brummagem. It's not as efficient as bf so won't stimulate as much production as less milk is likely to be removed but if you're ff and not doing anything at those times expressing can only increase supply.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/05/2015 19:00

Clearly I meant diminish and my iPad autocorrected to finish Confused

FiRaffe · 25/05/2015 20:14

Brummagem it is really tough. They seem to cry so much and lash out because they don't understand you are trying to help. Hope things get better for you, I can't wait for the eased crying to come!!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/05/2015 21:16

Have you been treated for thrush FiRaffe? I believe you can get it in the ducts as well as the nipple so wondered if that could be causing your pain?

FiRaffe · 26/05/2015 00:17

Not yet, they wanted me to finish my antibiotics for mastitis before doing anything else. Hope we can get some resolution today!

PenguinPoser · 26/05/2015 01:48

Agree with cinnamon FiRaffe- has baby had any signs of thrush? It sounds awful for you. Hope you get some help today.

Jetpack really hope tonight is better for you. I know what you mean about them taking on air while bf - how on earth!! That was one of the things I went to see la leche league about and it was partially related to a small tongue tie. Now that's sorted it doesn't seem as bad although dd still does get windy at times.

Brummagem it might be a good idea to express - if you're doing some formula feeds maybe express instead of those feeds to prevent your boobs getting engorged. I think it should help protect your supply rather than adversely affecting it although as cinnamon said its not quite as effective as feeding direct. Don't worry too much about the amount you can express its not a good indication of supply - and you can store in the fridge and add to it until you have enough for a feed.

Well dd went to sleep early... About 7pm and DH put her down so we could eat - she woke briefly then settled herself until 12.45 Shock so we went to bed at 9.30! Felt bad as she was still in her clothes so changed her into her sleepsuit when she woke up. Fed and resettling her now. Might be a long rest of the night as she doesn't normally sleep as long after she's been up... Maybe a couple of hours at most, so we shall see.

PenguinPoser · 26/05/2015 04:28

Angry dd has been asleep again for 2h between feeds and I couldn't sleep. Now feeding again Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 26/05/2015 04:44

Glad you had a long stretch but rubbish you didn't sleep PenguinPoser!

On the topic of wind/air I was told with ds1 that bad cabies couldn't get colic Shock. Obviously no one bothered to tell mm baby that!! He was horribly colicky and ebf and being told it couldn't happen didn't help me!

We are back to the 10.39-4.30 sleep we seemed to have settled into before my few disastrous nights. Lovely getting the block but not so lovely when he wont go back down for more than 20mins. Yesterday when he was up 3.15-3.45 I put back on his tummy and he slept until 7 Shock

FiRaffe · 26/05/2015 07:43

Yep cinnamon, my bf baby is full of wind and colicky! I can hear the bubbles in his tummy going like mad!!!

Docs open at 8, so i'll be on the phone. He hadn't had any signs but I think he has over the past few days. It's enough to make you want to stop bf but i'll keep going if I can.... The world's paracetamol makers will be glad!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/05/2015 08:00

I really need to proof read when writing at night!!

Put Sam back down on his tummy at 5 this morning and he's stayed asleep. I don't know why he settles fine on his back during the night but early hours and day time he only does 10-20mins on his back.

PenguinPoser · 26/05/2015 08:52

Hehe cinnamon I managed to decipher your post Wink glad his sleep pattern had improved but not good that he won't go back down. I eventually had about another 90mins sleep.

FiRaffe I have been wondering about your pain (as you do!) and wondering when is it in the feed? I have a really painful letdown near the start of a feed - to the point where my boobs are so sore I have to breathe through it! It only lasts about 15-20 seconds though so not sure if that's what you have or not.

FiRaffe · 26/05/2015 09:06

I wish it were Penguin! It's a deep pain in the breast not all the time he's suckling but a lot of it. It's then a dull throbbing pain most of the rest of the time (there is a different discomfort on top when they are getting too full!) Appointment at 1.20 so hopefully I can get some answers.

Will try a trip to work today I think as I need to go to the shop over that way - DH is treating me to a hudl tablet to watch stuff on when feeding etc

Jetpackplease · 26/05/2015 09:27

Fi hope you get some answers today about the pain, it sounds horrible.

We had a somewhat better night. DH gave him 2 bottles of ebm between 7-11 so I could get some sleep (except annoyingly I couldn't sleep and only got about an hour Angry). Then I gave him some boob and he went down 12-2.30. He went down for another 2 hours after that and then has done his usual of being awake from 5 having short feeds and dozing for 30 mins or so. I never thought I'd be grateful for 2 hours sleep, but I am!

My boobs are like rocks though so I need to express when he gives me a long enough break, though I haven't even been able to get dressed yet...

There is cake in the kitchen and it's calling me - I'm bloody starving and no DH to bring me food Sad

FiRaffe · 26/05/2015 13:52

Oh no, hate the food /drink calling thing.

The doc said it was some syndrome, reynauds or something. Basically his latch isn't helping and need to get help from a breastfeeding specialist. Off to the café on Monday I guess then. So much for his good latch.....

kismac · 26/05/2015 17:02

Had a brilliant night last night. She had 2 x 4 hour sleeps but wouldn't settle at all during the day and again won't settle but fingers crossed that means we'll have another good night.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/05/2015 20:08

Reynaulds is when you have a blood flow problem in the cold isn't it FiRaffe? Did they mention thrush in your ducts at all? From what I've read thrush gets more painful as the feed goes on and continues after. Other than latch is there anything they can do? If it carries on and you do stop you've given him a fantastic start with be through all this pain!

Good news on the sleeping kismac Smile

Sam slept 1-5pm so I'm hoping we won't have a terrible night! I expressed while he slept but I went for a run tonight and dh needed it before I got back so not built up any reserves so far but he has taken both bottles very well despite feeding from me straight after each one.

FiRaffe · 26/05/2015 21:37

She checked for thrush cinnamon but neither of us had any signs. Yep to do with blood flow so suggest nipple shields to help and go from there.

Hope you won't have a bad night too!! Great news on your night kismac.

Fingers crossed we all get some sleep!

PenguinPoser · 26/05/2015 21:57

Ah FiRaffe I wish I had something more helpful to say apart from I really hope that you get past it and the pain settles. But as cinnamon said you've done so well getting this far so whatever happens you can be proud of yourself.

Sophie slept loads today from 9.30-1 and 2-5! So Confused about tonight. I think she needs her sleep at the moment. Has just settled on me now so I'll give her 10-15mins and put her down then start getting ready for bed.
