Definitely just play the clothes by ear. DS will be in a nappy only most of the time as he is a really hot baby! I just take layers with me all the time and keep monitoring him.

Had a rough morning, DS has been squeaking, stretching and making all sorts of weird noises since he fed around 5am. He was asleep but I was on edge, the noises sounded scary at points. He's now sleeping on my shoulder and hopefully he'll go down shortly and I can get dressed and get some food. Does anyone else have a noisy baby? I have no idea if it's normal!

Jetpackplease · 14/05/2015 12:14

Fi I gave a very noisy baby - he squeaks, squawks, grunts, snorts, snores, sighs all the time, including in his sleep. I am a v light sleeper and it keeps me awake. I'm less paranoid about it now and it doesn't freak me out, but I sleep facing away from him and with one earplug in to 'take the edge off' the noise or else I'd never sleep at all. I still wake as soon as he stirs but I'm better at telling when he's actually waking.

Took him to be weighed this morning - he's now 10lbs 11oz, the chunk. He was so well behaved, didn't cry or wee on me when getting changed, but then puked all down me and himself once I fed him. We both now smell of cheesy sick Confused

Thanks for the clothes advice cinnamon and Fi - the too hot or too cold thing really worries me, but I'll have to learn to trust my instincts. It's definitely all about the layers Smile

smogsville · 14/05/2015 16:06

I have a noisy feeder - HV commented on it when he was chomping away during her visit!

DS slept for more than five hrs between feeds last night which freaked me out a bit but he's been feeding well today so maybe I should just be grateful? Seems like a long time for a 4 wk old.

FiRaffe · 14/05/2015 16:25

Enjoy it smogs! I'm sure it's fine, if he's anything like DS he tanks up in the evening and we usually get 4 hour stretches... it's getting him down between where the problems lie!

brummagem · 14/05/2015 16:58

Smogs my hv and mw said 5 hrs max was fine for my DS and he's 10 days old. As long as he's on 6-8 feeds and producing poo and wet nappies all is well. Don't know how this will affect my milk supply though as been feeding/ waking him every 2-3 hrs apart from the bottle DH gives him about 11pm so I can get a block of sleep.

PenguinPoser · 14/05/2015 19:35

Smogs I'd just go with the flow as long as he's gaining weight etc! And value the rest Smile

Jetpack - I'm like you with not knowing how many clothes to put on dd! Sometimes I worry that she must be boiling in her layers but she's always seemed ok. I try and put her in one more layer to what I'm wearing. It's hard in this kind of weather where it can change dramatically throughout the day!

Undecided about how feeding is going since the tt release yesterday - trying to teach her to latch deeper is tricky. She does seem less windy though. Going back to bf clinic tomorrow though and the LLL lady has said I can go early before it technically starts to get some 1:1 time to check latch etc which will hopefully be useful.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 14/05/2015 20:03

Smogs my DD was born the same day as your LO and last night I was waiting up for her as she had been asleep nearly 6 hours! I just enjoyed it! Grin

smogsville · 14/05/2015 20:33

Thanks for all the reassuring comments re sleeps between feeds. Common sense tells me he's fine but I'm a born panic merchant too. Monday is weigh in at the clinic so we'll see how he's getting on.

Speaking of weigh-ins, the choc consumption at this end is getting out of hand. Just polished off a box that my friend brought over today. DH hardly got a look-in. I am back in one pair of normal jeans, but tellingly not the skinniest ones and at this rate I might never be! I'm quite enjoying all the choc though so I might just drop the jeans off at the charity shop LOL!

Kismac mine are quite massive too and I find I am not bothered about public feeding either (although it is second time for me). Good for you! I find if I don't look at anyone before getting on with the feed I can easily pretend they're not there at all...

cinnamongreyhound · 14/05/2015 20:51

Good luck with LLL tomorrow PenguinPoser.

I wouldn't worry about longish stretches of sleep, they will either catch up after or have had a cluster before generally. Even at a few weeks you're last the worry that they'll be too low on glucose to wake for a feed.

I'm shattered today!! Feel like I've had a reasonably quiet day as I only had minded kids before and after school but we posted dh's eBay parcels then went to pet shop, then Tesco, then hospital and I did some ironing between then and school run so not so restful really. Sam's sodium is within normal range now but she still wants to check next Friday and then two week later. He's got his specialist apt 18th June and they want full bloods the week before so not much respite from hospital really. Got a copy of the letter they sent to the GP today with details of his condition and everything they've done and it says he's grade 5. Having looked it up that's the most severe form of vesico-ureteral reflux, which no one has actually told us. He's gained another 250g which is great and the Dr just has a cursory glance over him while he was weighed rather than her usual examination so she must be reasonably happy.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/05/2015 21:51

He got me!

Wineandchoccy · 15/05/2015 00:31

cinnamon did he wee on you Grin dd decided to have a wee on me today after her bath and after I had just ironed my top.

I took dd to the doctors this morning because she still had not pooed, she has just had her first dose of lactulose and there are now some very interesting sounds coming from her bottom. I hope it works because she is very hard to settle tonight and seems to be in pain, poor little girl Sad

FiRaffe · 15/05/2015 01:05

Great news on the tests cinnamon.

Wine - did the doc not think it was normal then?

On the subject of poo..... what do you ladies count as a poo? A wet nappy filling job or a small stain in the nappy... A poo fart as they have been named in our house? We seem to have had lots of the latter but none of the former today which isn't helping the colic situation I don't think

cinnamongreyhound · 15/05/2015 01:51

Yes wineandchoccy Sad it was a huge one by the Hume I got a nappy to it I was soaked but it still kept coming! Hope the lactolose helps. I'm surprised they gave you something relatively early with a nf baby. Is it quite sweet? The antibiotics are sweet and he sucks them out but the sodium he makes a horrible face and tries not to take it!

FiRaffe I wouldn't count that as a poo personally. I can usually she him pooing and always seems a bit more chilled afterwards. He's pooing 2-4 times a day at the moment some quite explosive or sound it.

kismac · 15/05/2015 02:01

We were told by midwife that staining counts as poo. We've only really had staining so far.

FiRaffe · 15/05/2015 04:45

Thanks ladies. He's had a couple of days like this. We usually get at least one explosive wet poo a day, but only staining for over 24 hours. He's full of wind too so hope something moves soon!!!

To think of the days before being a mummy when you wouldn't have dreamt talking about poo!!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/05/2015 07:25

What a crappy night! Awake from 1.20-3.30 and then up again at 5.30 Sad he went back to sleep by 6.30 but I had to get up then! He's now feeding again but I've had a peaceful walk with the dogs (that cleared my foggy head) as dh has buggered his knee again and really wasn't up to walking them. At least it's the weekend!

Lauren82000 · 15/05/2015 08:53

Poor you cinnamon. Surprisingly our night wasn't too bad although I was up for most of it it seemed to whiz by. Had to resort to the bouncy chair though as DD has a cold and just couldn't breathe in her crib even with it propped at one end. She was just nibbling every 45mins until I abandoned the crib then I got 2 hours out of her. Poor thing I feel so helpless when she's struggling to clear her snot. Debating going out for an aspirator, the saline spray helps but it's still a struggle to clear it out.

Oh and just thought I'd share the hilarity of my DH. He was in the bedroom in his boxers and turned to leave the room and I caught sight of his bum. His seem had split about 4 inches and I could see his crack. Took me a while to stop crying before I could tell him what was wrong. He said he felt a thread tickling him and he yanked itGrin He then put his lip out when he checked it out in the mirror, they were his favourite pair!

Wineandchoccy · 15/05/2015 08:57

We have a pooey nappy Grin I never thought I would be so excited to see poo!

The doctor said to go from lots of dirty nappies to none in 48 hours for a breast fed baby is unusual and because she was drawing her knees up, crying and passing wind that stunk he said she obviously needed to go so the lactulose would get things moving.

She must have been happier and more comfortable because she slept for a 5 hour block. Busy day today we have 3 lots of visitors planned.

Wineandchoccy · 15/05/2015 09:09

My parents bought us this rocker and she sleeps like a log during the day in it, they got it from home bargains for £19.99 but there is one on ebay with no bids at 99 p. I can definitely recommend it for a colicky refluxy baby.

PenguinPoser · 15/05/2015 09:20

Yay for poo Wineandchoccy!! You're right it's become something of an obsession. How are things with feeding since the tt snip? It's going ok here but think we need to work on the latch more. My nipples are a bit sore again which I wonder if it's because dd is having to learn to feed differently.

Hehe Lauren hope those underpants are now in the bin!

Cinnamon sorry you had a bad night. Good news about the improvement in bloods though :)

Plans for the day... Have to go to post office for a card, breastfeeding clinic, visit my gran, and look into booking water babies classes Smile

Wineandchoccy · 15/05/2015 09:30

penguin she feeds much better from the left side but I am sore on my right side. I don't know whether that is because when I feed her downstairs I always sit on the same sofa so her legs are against the arm, I sat somewhere different yesterday and it felt better. The clicking sound has gone now and she feeds for longer so I think it has been successful.

Sorry you had a rubbish night cinnamon

Lauren82000 · 15/05/2015 09:44

Yes penguin they went in the bin. He tried to sneak them in the washing basket but I told him no.

Flagging a bit now with little sleep last night. But am patting myself on the back with reserving a small present for DD1's birthday from argos. I'll go pick it up this afternoon when the cooking program's go on repeat. That'll be our outing for the day Wink

FiRaffe · 15/05/2015 11:33

Sorry you had a bad night cinnamon and Lauren.

Great news on the nappy Wine. We had a beautifully full nappy this morning after a lot of squeaking and wriggling!

brummagem · 15/05/2015 12:39

Oh. My. Life. There are prize dairy cows whose yield is less than mine today. DS has wanted feeding virtually every hour since 4am. Shock he better be growth spurting or I think I'll either cry, expire from exhaustion or drown in the new quantities of milk that this frenzy might being forth. He's v grizzly today too just rocked him to a slumber in his bouncer (not ideal for posture but hey ho). He was lay on my chest earlier and he lifted his head up and moved it from one side to the other. Bless him.

Hope all things sleepy settle down for you lauren and cinnamon

lauren lol at the boxers. They do get v attached to them! My DH is the same there's always the most threadbare pair lurking somewhere almost like a security blanket.

Great news on nappy filling wine yay!

Lauren82000 · 15/05/2015 14:09

How can you tell if baby is dehydrated? She has done some epic poos today and I'm a little concerned she will dehydrate. So far she has been feeding every 2 hours and she is pretty alert. I know I'm just being a worrier but it's her first cold and she is so small.
