Anyone any ideas..DS will not sleep for more than 5 mins during the day. Since 9 this morning he has had 45 mins sleep..he's 4 weeks old. That's not right...for either of us. Buggy, rocking, walking...none will work.

White noise? Our LO seems to be soothed by a hairdryer noise on an app I have!

We have just had a really unsettled evening here and then the most spectacular poonami to date. She's a bit more relaxed now :-)

I'm really starting to get frustrated with my ongoing cold. It's approaching 3 weeks now which means pretty much from the time i started feeling better post-section I've had the cold instead. I just want to feel well!

No ideas sorry bang. Is she unsettled or just awake? Sometimes DD is awake a lot but just happy chilling so I'm not too worried.

blank Do you have a sling? My lo will drop off really nicely in my stretchy wrap sling. It even used to work for DD who was a champion sleep fighter! Hope you both get some sleep soon.
DS is still up feeding loads in the night. He is definitely more awake in the day now but it doesn't seem to be making any difference to his feeding pattern which is still loads in the night & every 3 hours in the day- sometimes less, I had to wake him today to feed. Hoping this might change soonish!

My mum and sister are here this week which has meant lots of trip out with LO. It's also been a help around the flat with someone to wash up or even hang the washing out on the maiden (airer).
LO is still struggling a bit with wind but since the green poo (goats cheese was the culprit) has stopped she's been a little less grumpy. That being said she fed every other hour last night for ages. I got v v grumpy with OH as he just sticks his headphones in and sleeps through it all. And when she does drop off, I struggles sometimes as she's noisy!

Anyone else notice that at 4 weeks they want to stay awake as much as possible to the extent that they are overtired and grouchy? Or is my girl a nosy, over stimulated bugger?

Lancs & blank a Mr fussy here too though I'm 99% sure you it's cos of reflux and he's just not comfortable laying flat hence not sleeping much. F'ing docs. Why can't they listen/ trust our instincts?! We're the ones observing our LO's 24/7. Rant done. Still can't work out the logistics of medicating him tomorrow without manually expressing whilst out Probably just go without as I don't think the Colief is doing that much for him

Lancs- we have the opposite problem- its becoming a running joke amongst family that they never see LO awake- aside from feeding, he only stays awake for about 20 minutes in one go! Super-snoozer

Lancs LO slept loads then when he started staying awake more at 5pm screamed for an hour like he had too much stimulation earlier in the day, things are better now, he stays awake a lot more now.

Bangles no idea but we use a sling and within a minute or 2 he is asleep. That and fresh air makes him zonk out.

My mum ran out of gaviscon for his last bottle st hers today, he only had 2oz then screamed for an hour, for the rest of the afternoon he has thrown up quite a lot, poonami x 3 and had belly ache, he is finally asleep now, dh came home today so he did ds1 bedtime and sorted LO while I had a soak

Frenetic allergies would probably be from something you eat, when Lo got his cough I worried it was a dog allergy and docs said if it was due to animals it normally causes runny eyes, sneezing, cough and rash

I'm here. Madam is being so fussy tonight, any of the eight weekers fussy and resisting sleep too? I might get the wonder weeks books which says its a developmental shift at week eight which causes it.

I never used to believe this stuff......

Jack we're 8 weeks tomorrow and have an extremely fussy baby. Think we're both fed up of being with each other 24/7. He screamed on and off for 2hrs last night until OH took over. Not sure if he settled in the end. Don't really want to go and find out as we ended on an argument last night and I can still see things being frosty this morning.
Maybe I'll try sneaking past and getting straight in the shower.

Good luck donkir, hopefully the morning will bring him some clarity about what's needed from both of you in caring for your child!

You seem to have mostly marvellous OHs... In the first 6 months or so, while I'm on maternity leave, DH does absolutely nothing with the new baby. Nada. Zip. Holds them when it is brutally obvious that I can't.

Then I go back to work and he has to do everything for 12 hours a day. So I keep reminding myself of this when I want to shout at him. He does make up for it once they are past those 6 months and is a really good stay-at-home-dad.

He just seems to be unable to connect when they're tiny and is terrified of hurting them. Crying drives him crazy like it is physically hurting him to hear it. So this is our compromise I guess.

Honey I salute you there is no way I could do it without input from dh, he came home last night unexpectedly and he did the 2 feeds in the night looked after a mostly upset LO while I had a bath along with washing up, ds1 bedtime book and bath and had hoovered whole house before I returned from work as he got home just before me.
The kids are half his so in this house if he is home he does 50% he gets time off when he is at work staying in hotels and getting 3 meals a day cooked for him and 9 hours kip a night

We are away tomorrow for our anniversary it will be the first time I leave LO overnight. I Am looking forward to it but know rather thsn enjoy a day away on sunday we will just want to get home

My DS fights sleep but I find a sling gets him calmed and over to sleep much easier and more effective than swaddling etc also I got a white noise toy which calms him down and it's a big help

donkir- dos you sort things out with your DP? I had so many horrible rows with DH when DD was small. I used to fantasise about our divorce! We got over it all though & are both way more relaxed this time. Plus I have seen him so little in the last 2 weeks we haven't had a chance to row!
He is on his way home now but as he is bringing me fish and chips I won't say he is completely useless!

Addicted I was the same first time round I used to look at houses in Wales (200 miles away) and imagine taking ds there..... We got through it, got married and this time no wanting to kill him yet

That must be tough honey. Glad he steps up eventually but the first 6 months are pretty relentless. I get frustrated with DH because he counts holding DD as a job. So I'll clean the house and run around after our 3.5 year old and he'll lie down on the sofa with the baby thinking he's contributing. And he'll never put her down. He'll only get up when I'm ready to take her off him because apparently she'll cry. I have started to ask him what on earth he thinks happens while he's at work!

Waaaahhhhh my perfect prep machine is broken! I think I actually broke it by pressing the button over and over in a panic to stop it doing a cycle and now nothing......spoke to care line and they said to take it back to kiddicare which is fine as we are passing tomorrow. Weird how you get used to using something

Is anyone else cluster feeding a bottle fed baby in the evenings? Lo had 60 mls at 5pm, 30mils at 7 and is now taking another bottle as I type. Last night she had an extra 60mls before I took her up and slept for five hours so I'm hoping this is her starting to get ready for sleeping at the right times!!!

Also we finally got a prescription for ready made formula today so hopefully that will sort out her constipation problems over the next few days. Health visitor told me to stamp my feet a bit and it worked. Really hoping we can do without the latchalose as I already have dodgy bowels and don't want lo to be dependant on laxatives.

Things, my dm was exactly the same when she visited for the first week after the baby was born. Sat on the soda cuddling a sleeping baby all week while I brought her tea as she couldn't get up with the baby. Drove me batty but this time she has been back for another visit and has been MUCH better - done a a few nights to give us a rest and even changed a nappy . I think sometimes it's a matter of confidence, so will improve over time.

Baby mimosa has silent reflux too. I'm thinking of moving to a medium flow teat from slow as she often loses interest in a feed, then is still hungry shortly thereafter. Has anyone done this yet for those of you using bottles? How did you know it was time?

So tired I half passed out/fell down earlier, so DH is taking LO into the spare room tonight. I still have to pump overnight but hope I can squeeze in at least a five-hour stretch to try and balance myself out a bit. I'm utterly shit at looking after myself, think this whole early parenthood gig is a HUGE wakeup call that I need to be caring for myself too!

frenetic - make sure you don't get dehydrated. when I was ill at the start of the week I didnt eat or drink properly and my milk supply went down over night. which had me really stressed. I often don't feel like it when I am tired but now making more of an effort.

hope you do get that extra rest!

we have our first swimming lesson tomorrow. apparently the pool is lovely and warm. gutted I can't swim yet but will be nice bonding for my two boys! has anyone else gone swimming yet?

Mim we've moved onto vari flow tommee tippie teats as we've changed milk to anti colic/constipation and it's much thicker. Lo is getting on well with them when he remembers to slow his suck down a bit.
Better night with oh he actually did bedtime tonight and I'm much less stressed. I actually got to do the washing up which I normally hate but was nice to do something normal rather than sitting in a darkened room for up to and hr and a half trying to settle lo.
