team I would second taking her into bed with you and persevering with this. When I get the 5am wake ups I take DS into bed. He wriggles and whinges for sometimes up to 30 minutes but I just keep putting the dummy back in, snuggling him into me, shushing and stroking his head. He falls asleep almost every time. I've even been known to do this for the morning nap when I'm really tired, because I know he'll sleep longer. Yesterday he did 9.15-11.00 in bed with me Shock. You must be knackered after sitting in a nursing chair and rocking, like fate says even if you get to doze fort en minutes it's warm and comfortable and better than nothing.

LillyBugg · 17/04/2015 20:57

FYI I took the plunge and have ditched 'Honeybear30'. I shall now be known as LillyBugg.

FATEdestiny · 17/04/2015 21:16

Ohh nice username lilly Smile Chances are I won't remember that you used to be Honey, 'cos my memory is rubbish like that Grin

Team - morning snuggles are really lovely anyway. Our five and nine year olds always come in to out bed for a massive family snuggle in the morning. Our DD10 has only just grown out of it an tends to stay in bed.

LillyBugg · 17/04/2015 21:20

Oh Fate I can't even imagine a day when DS won't want to snuggle! I keep thinking that I just don't have enough time with him being a baby. I need more, the past seven months has gone so fast already and I want more baby time!

I must get a bigger bed for all these snuggles :)

Topsyloulou · 17/04/2015 21:25

DS slept until 8.30 this morning which was amazing however it completely messed him up for the whole day & he only had one nap which finished at 11.15 & then refused to sleep for the rest of the day. He then fell asleep in the car at 6.30 & woke up just as we got home & was in a full on rage for milk which he promptly drank half of & then refused the rest. This was swiftly followed by 4 nappy changes in a row! Never again will I let him sleep that late.

Aw holls Thanks Thanks Thanks

FATEdestiny · 17/04/2015 21:42

DDs naps have gone to pot this week, it's because of the Easter school holidays. I've decided just to wait it out until Monday when they go back to school. I'm hopeful she'll just drop back into normal routine then.

Holls - Hope your LO is OK.

FATEdestiny · 17/04/2015 21:43

Was thinking earlier that we've not heard from Nazly in a while. Is she on holiday?

KitKat1985 · 17/04/2015 21:52

Oh Holls. Flowers Hope B is okay and you're not stuck at the hospital too long. xx

Re: TV - we only have freeview as don't watch enough TV to warrant Sky, so J loves Cbeebies - especially programmes with humans in them as opposed to cartoons. He loves Mr Tumble...grrrrrrr !

Re: Sleep. Last time I posted a few days ago, I was at the end of my tether with the 2 hour wakings. So I have decided that I will not take J out of his cot at night. I have done this for 2 nights and sleep has been better. I still talk to him/prop him up and feed him - but haven't physically removed him and let him fall asleep on me as I usually do. Fingers crossed this continues (although I do miss the night time cuddles)....

Bad mummy awards: I have let J have a little bit of Ice Cream and he loves it. Weaning is still going well, he eats anything - even if he doesn't appear to like it. The other day we were at an Ice Cream parlour and J was gazing at the twin's ice creams so we let him have some.

Am feeling a bit gutted that the Easter hols are over. We have had so much quality time that I don't want it to end....

TeamEponine · 18/04/2015 07:21

End of week two get fit update...

  • weight loss: 1lb this week, 3.5lb total (aim one stone)
  • 7 minute workout: everyday (aim everyday)
  • walking: 35km (aim 30km)
  • chocolate indiscretions: 5 Blush

I'm so cross with myself for being such a weak willed pig, but I guess at least I still lost a pound. I'm starting this week afresh, so no chocolate this week Grin

In terms of sleep... I woke at 3.30am to giggling and singing. DH was still up working. He said she'd been up for half an hour and he'd tried everything, but it didn't work so as she was happy he decided to leave her to it in her cot. Fair enough, I'd have done the same, but as I was up I thought I may as well try giving her a bottle and she fell asleep after half of it. I decided to take your advice and just take her to bed with me, and we then both slept until 6!!! Bliss!!! Maybe that is the solution, just bring her in with us straight after the 3.30 feed. This morning it seemed to totally avoid the unsettled time. Will try it again tomorrow and see how it goes.

KitKat1985 · 18/04/2015 07:30

Holls glad you at least know what is wrong now. Does B need antibiotics?

On another point, when is everyone back at work? Nazly I know you already are (are things any better with the nursery by the way?) I'm really lucky to have a year off, I know that, and yet now Jessica is 7 and a half months it feels like it's creeping every closer and I'm already dreading it. Sad I really wish I didn't have to go back full-time. All my other RL mum friends only have to go back part-time which I'd much prefer. And because I'll be working double shifts I'm just gutted that I'm not going to get to see Jessica all day when I'm at work. It doesn't help I think that I don't really enjoy my job, even though I like all my colleagues. I think this year has clarified for me that I'd like to retrain eventually, but given that me and DH would like to TTC#2 next year, and then have another year's maternity leave, and then just generally wait until they are old enough for me to be able to study again, I can't see it happening anytime soon.

KitKat1985 · 18/04/2015 07:31

Sorry x-post team. Well done on another loss! And glad to hear you had a better night last night. x

RedToothBrush · 18/04/2015 08:07

BabyRed version 001 has two settings only. Sleep mode and Crazy Rampaging Monster.

The idea of leaving him and ignoring him for half an hour during the night to get him to resettle is alien. He wakes and goes straight into attack phase. He crawls over with his eyes still closed and either shoves his hands in my face/mouth or tries to crawl on me. Or he just screams.

I really really want him to start taking solids more for this reason. He's on 2hr feedings day and night at the moment. Its not for lack of trying. I figure when he works out food then I might get sleep again.

Last night was particularly hard. He decided he didn't want to sleep until 2am after sleeping from 9 until 11pm. And then woke every hour an a half. He's woken at 7.30 and is wide awake, but if he's anything like he has been this week come 8.45 he'll be tired and want to go back to sleep for 2hrs.

I'm at a loss. I don't think we can do anything but try and ride it out.

Ha ha ha!!!

Whenever I complain about DDs lack of sleep to my mum she tries to reassure me with her "theory" that babies who don't sleep well are more intelligent Hmm She does have some crazy ideas, but maybe BabyRed version 001 will win a Nobel prize some day?!?!?

I'm back to work 1st June. Luckily I've negotiated to go back part time for a year, so I'll be doing every morning and one flexi afternoon a week. DD will also be going to a (sort of) workplace nursery, so she will only be a ten minute walk from my office. I'm quite looking forward to going back to work. I really love my job and also work with my best friend. I've been in there once or twice a week since DD was two weeks old, so hopefully it won't be too much of a shock to the system.

Kitkat, double shifts sounds horrid, but does that at least mean you work fewer days?

I think Nazly and Misog are both back at work now.

TeamEponine · 18/04/2015 08:30

Red, what happens when you try to feed him? Is there anything he eats or any situation in which he is more likely to eat?

RedToothBrush · 18/04/2015 09:52

As much as that nobel prize sounds attractive I worry about the implications of a super intelligent baby plus the current thing is nothing to do with intelligence and just to do with him being hungry.

Red, what happens when you try to feed him? Is there anything he eats or any situation in which he is more likely to eat?

He doesn't. Its as simple as that. Unless he's shovelling it in his own face (and his fine motor control isn't good enough to get much in) or its ice cream.

He's ridiculously wilful and just doesn't stop when he's awake. He sat still for twenty minutes on Thursday evening. The fact that this is so unusual that its worthy of note and memorial says it all.

He's a Houdini on uppers.

I am beginning to wonder if he's within the boundaries of normal or into hyperactive territory. It gets commented on. A lot.

TeamEponine · 18/04/2015 11:07

Do you think it is that he doesn't enjoy food and eating, or is he just too busy and excited to allow you to feed him?

As bad as it sounds DD would just get too excited, so I tried putting her to watch cbeebies and then tried to get food in her whilst she was in a semi-hypnotic state. I don't think she realised I was doing it, but after doing that one meal a day for a few days, she got far better at eating. I think she was so excited and stimulated by the food, spoons and bowls that she didn't realise that there could be some yummy good if she just calmed enough to let me get food in her mouth. I guess that approach wouldn't work if your DS isn't interested in TV or if you prefer not to feed him in front of TV. (I was horrified with myself, but only did it 4/5 times!).

Does he drink water? I also found that DD eats more when she drinks water, but it took her a while to get the hang of that. Maybe that could be something to try?

If he likes feeding himself, then maybe work on that more. I find the organix corn rings quite good. I put them on her thumb and then she gnaws it off! If I give her something that she can pick up in her fist she just can't work out how to get it in her mouth! With toast I give her half of the slice so that there is plenty to chew on, even if she's holding it with both fists.

Another thing you could maybe try is that small netting on a handle thing that you can put food in. DD didn't get on with it, but it might work for your DS as he could hold the handle and put the netting/food bit in his mouth.

Sorry if these are things you've already tried or that you wouldn't be comfortable trying. Just trying to come up with a few ideas!
