Our first thread on the 'other side'. And may all our soon to be mummies join us in this adventure through the early days of parenthood as we continue to share exciting times.

Oh no gaviscon doesn't sound like a hit?! Hmm I was hoping this would be it.

I've got HV check up next weds then the post natal check up the following weds so I'll just have to tell them if it's not working/causing problems

Memphisbelly · 18/03/2015 17:25

Bang my gp said you know if gaviscon is helping within 24 hours I noticed imprvement within 2-3 feeds, LO has it in his bottles and if I miss one feed with it in I am in trouble, we went to docs with a cold but it was reflux, also have you tried saline sprsy or drops before a feed to clear the nose so they can feed better?

Frenetic I echo talking to someone, try and get in touch with your local homestart they sorted me on a councellor course last time and this time as I haven't got pnd but struggle at groups where I don't know people so are coming to see me next week about going to a baby group where there is support to talk to if I need it. You have managed a very good length of time to feed ds, breast feeding really isn't worth making you feel shitty by continuing.

6 week check done, LO's testicles haven't dropped they are leaving it 4 more weeks then refering him to hospital Sad but other than that he said he is alert and lovely

freneticfox · 18/03/2015 18:10

Despite living in a fairly large town, there does not appear to be a local home start. Seriously, support here is atrocious.

GeekyHybrid · 18/03/2015 18:47

Thanks whyo - I've read up on silent reflux and will definitely be mentioning it to the hv tomorrow and doc on Friday. So much sounds familiar especially the back arching and comfort feeding. I was eager to get him weighed tomorrow as he seems to be growing phenomenally quickly. Some of his 0-3 month clothing is now looking quite tight on him Shock, I think only another weeks wear if that.

It's the shoulder to crotch length again but really!! He was

bang - yes it's great to be home though it could've waited a day, we won't have seen the northern lights if we'd of stayed just one more day. Galling as last year we went to Iceland and didn't see them there either Sad

GeekyHybrid · 18/03/2015 18:51

Doh - would have seen the northern lights. F'ing phone. Trying to type with LO asleep (finally!) on my chest.

Bang gaviscon seems to be one of those things that helps some but adds issues for others. DS had severe silent reflux until nearly 3yrs (thought to be made worse by his breathing problems and hypermobility) for him gaviscon and omeprazole (he had an incredibly rare allergy to ranitidine) really helped him and he has never been constipated on them.

Memphisbelly · 18/03/2015 22:34

Frenetic look for PANDAS its a post natal group/support network think its based in werrington or bretton.

freneticfox · 18/03/2015 22:57

Fantastic, thank you :)

Hoping for a better night tonight.. Hope everyone else gets sleep!

tiredvommachine · 19/03/2015 01:28

frenetic-Are you in Peterborough?

freneticfox · 19/03/2015 03:34

I am, yes.

Part of my pump has packed up at 3am. Yayyy. -_-

At least LO went back down after his feed.

tiredvommachine · 19/03/2015 04:21

Well I Hope you get some more sleep frenetic and all.
My DS seems to be on a feeding mission tonight, still hasn't gone longer than 2.5 hours sleep since he came home from hospital.
Crazily tired.

Bangonthedoor · 19/03/2015 06:30

Well LO has clean dry clothes since yesterday evening! That's a first! No sick so far, apart from the normal spit up. She also seems a bit less snorty but still there.

blankfornames · 19/03/2015 08:16

Well DS has decided that sleep is for the weak. He was up at 8 yday and didnt sleep again till just before 4. I tried everything...3 car trips, buggy..cuddles. He was like a demon towards the end. This is becoming a pattern as has done similiar a few days previous. HELP!! I need some 'me' time!

freneticfox · 19/03/2015 11:54

Tiredvom - are you local?

Well, after three days of no poo, this morning yielded what can only be described as an apocalyptic amount of poo. I sincerely hope he sleeps better tonight... We are getting worn out with this fussy phase!

GeekyHybrid · 19/03/2015 15:24

I've officially got a rapidly growing child. Now 10lb 14oz! Above the 50th percentile, not bad for one born below the 25th. And to celebrate he's been feeding every hour since 6.30am, longest nap 45min so far thus I've got sweet FA done today Hmm HV did agree that his fussiness and discomfort sounded like colic / reflux but she felt ride it out til 12 weeks, or speak to doc. O dear, 6 week GP appointment tomorrow, think I'll be pushing the reflux angle. Think this one is fairly trigger happy with the prescriptions as it's the same doc who fobbed me off with antibiotics for the bleb!
One positive thought for the day. I was chatting to someone with a 4 week baby and 2.5 yr old at clinic. Even though she's feeding every 2 hours and is knackered she just smiled and said 'it passes, seems like forever whilst in the middle of it but before you know it they're running around and you're cursing the terrible 2's!'
Wine Here's to us all coming out the other side of the fussy stage.

LancashireTea · 19/03/2015 16:58

Bad day here today. LO has been writhing about in the last 24 hours and she normally fidgets for a moment like that before she farts but this time she's been crying and seems to be in pain. Started on the infacol and swaddling her but she has become v clingy when not feeding and will only sleep on one of us. I hope that it's just a day of bad tummy (incidentally I've had indigestion all day) and not a sign that my lovely chilled girl is now a screamer.

And to top off the shite day, work have been hassling me as it's BBC news day at school and I normally run it. The teacher I've left it to has been messaging all day asking things she should have done months ago. Plus there is a promotion opening up in my dept but the best interviews are in 10 days and the thought of that is stressing me out. The application alone will take forever. But if I don't got for it then I will never progress and tbh no one else in the dept deserves it or would even do it properly (trumpet blown!). Argh!

LancashireTea · 19/03/2015 17:24

Sorry. Realised my post turned into a pity party for one. Confused

loopsyloup · 19/03/2015 17:57

Lancs - we're here to join the pity party when it is needed so don't worry about that!

Is there anyone on this thread who isn't having problems with wind and/or poos? I'm starting to get paranoid about my lo who doesn't appear to have any bum problems... Yet, anyway!

I do however have a newly clingy baby (6 weeks tomorrow). She yelled whenever I put her in her buggy, and although jiggling the buggy or purposely walking on the grass beside the nice unmuddy path stopped her, and she'd appear to be asleep, she quickly started yelling if I stopped or went back to the smooth path.,. Grrr! She has gone to sleep on me in a sling so at least I've managed to get a few things done and dd1 is now eating dinner, but my back'll give way if this goes on for more than a day or two. So I'm officially joining the clingy club hoping this phase doesn't last long!

Can I ask what people's thoughts are on drinking booze? I may have been having a drink or two most nights since lo was born but got judged harshly when in a pub for lunch at the weekend and drinking a pint of cider while breastfeeding, which has made me paranoid. It's ok, right? Doesn't seem to be harming my baby or affecting my milk supplies...

blankfornames · 19/03/2015 19:37

loopsy, thankfully DS is all good in the wind/bum department! Wink

Ah, I thought I was totally alone out here! Hampton here :)

LO has been asleep for three hours. Maybe more. I fear tonight.. Gulp.

tiredvommachine · 19/03/2015 20:08

Hi frenetic!

I dread bedtime. There is no difference in DS' routine between day and night and he will only sleep for a few hours either on me or DH and then spends the rest of the time feeding.
I have high hopes things will change as he gets older but is so hard to go through with the sleep deprivation.

Bangonthedoor · 19/03/2015 20:22

Is anyone happy to share their current evening routine? Every evening is different here due to varied feed times. The only thing that's the same every day is bath time with DD around 6pm ish.

Also everyone keeps telling me that I'm feeding LO too often and I should make her go every 4 hours - this is impossible she just screams until she gets her food, I know she's hungry. She's feeding every 2 hours, not just a little bit either, 5 oz per feed! Today she has had 6oz! She'll only go longer if we're out and about and she's settled in car seat or pram. Should I be making her wait longer between feeds or should I just feed her when she's hungry?! I'd like her to go longer but it's just impossible.

purpleteapig · 19/03/2015 20:54

Such a stressful day - I can't seem to handle looking after both kids without getting really frazzled and strung out. Left house early to take toddler to his gym class down the road with baby in a sling, and 20 mins in toddler has pooed - didn't bring any nappies for him so hightailed it back to the house to change him before heading back. Baby starts screaming, so gave up on it - day went downhill from there. Hoping it gets easier as feeling quite inadequate at the mo.

Loopsy - I've been drinking a glass of wine or a couple of beers 2/3 times a week and that's fine for bf from what I've read up on - I just time it so I do it while feeding or just after so there's time for alcohol to be got rid of before next feed. On the occasions where I've had more, I've fed him expressed milk. That's out of order for someone to have a go at you, especially as they sound quite uninformed!
