I think I have written the start of about 4 posts then lost them due to one of the kids kicking off!
DS looks like he is going to be like his big sis & a total Velcro baby. He does like his bouncy chair but they aren't meant to be in them too long are they? have a bedside crib but even that is too far away from me!
Just had DD ending lunchtime with epic screaming session over wanting cuddles while DS feeding. Don't really know how I will manage these once DH back at work!

Grinningcat · 03/03/2015 13:41

I know that DS is only 6 days old, but those of you with Velcro babies re making me appreciate that I can put him down and he doesn't cry. Of course when he is properly worked up only mummy will do, but his aunt visited this morning and it was lovely to know I could pass him over for cuddles and he would be fine.

GeekyHybrid · 03/03/2015 14:09

grinning mine is happy as long as someone is holding him and will happily be passed around a room. Until he's hungry that is Sad And unfortunately that's every 2 hours through the night and at least hourly through the day - though I get 2 small windows late afternoon and mid evening when he will nap for longer than 30 mins, guess when I nap!! Poor OH, I get nothing done when he's at work Blush

I have been shopping today and bought half of next, boots and mothercare Confused. Dh was very patient!

He kept reminding me that it's my birthday next week and he wanted to buy something for me but I just wanted to buy for the baby! Oops!

Just hoping that she'll be home soon and then I can start dressing her in the beautiful outfits she's now got accumulating in the nursery!

I've now stopped expressing and dd is on formula. Partly choice, partly because I can then go back on the best medication for my blood pressure which I couldn't take and bf.

freneticfox · 03/03/2015 15:59

I had a six hour stretch of sleep..nope, not a baby miracle, my MIL popped up to make sure I was coping OK with DH back at work (after I had a meltdown yesterday afternoon I suspect DH made a call..)

Really appreciated the overnight help, feeling much more in control today and less hopeless. Amazing what exhaustion can do to the mind as well as the body!

Memphisbelly · 03/03/2015 16:00

Dances how lovely to go shopping for baby, it was my birthday when the baby was 8 days old and dh took me shopping for new clothes and I kept finding myself in baby dept!

Memphisbelly · 03/03/2015 16:02

Frenetic how lovely of your MIL to help like that! Exhaustion does crazy things to your body and mind, hope you have a good night tonight and he sleeps a bit better for you

freneticfox · 03/03/2015 17:30

Oh, meant to add.. My GP is now closed for the day, but is there anything that helps constipation? My LO has been straining all day, but no poo, just tiny little parps. He seems to be really uncomfortable bless him.

He's feeding and peeing fine, had a couple of naps. Just no dirty nappies and a lot of red faced straining.

dancestomyowntune · 03/03/2015 18:02

Cooled boiled water was always advised with my oldest for constipation. That was 12 years ago though!

GeekyHybrid · 03/03/2015 18:06

Achievements for this afternoon: 1) A half hour doze whilst LO slept before being woken by him explosively filling his nappy 2) Being unable to sleep when he dozed off again. 3) Rinsing the laundry being treated with colour run remover, and then putting it all back on to soak with a second treatment. 4) Made a cup of tea. 5) Made a dent in the pile of washing up - and broke one of the good bowls. 6) Toasted a teacake and microwaved the cup of tea, actually consumed both :-D
Let's just hope he sleeps tonight. Please.

Wowsers, It's been a while since i've posted and this thread is huuuge already. I really have no idea where the time has gone, but i suspect bfing issues and knackeredness have played a part.

But OMG i've just come down with an infection in my section wound and it bloody hurts! I got antibiotics last night but the pain's really kicking in now. I'm gutted because recovery was going so well and i've nearly conquered bfing too, and this has completely floored me :(

Anyone else in this sorry state? Or had an infection before? Any tips or advice??!

I'm so squeamish the thought of an infected wound makes me feel green...i can't bear my husband looking at it even when i've asked him to ("Don't say yuck!!!")

Memphisbelly · 03/03/2015 18:55

Frenetic i used cooled boiled water with LO snd the hv said I shouldn't but then yesterday the doc said to when needed not as a precaution, gaviscon causes constipation are you using one or 2 sachets in each bottle we now use one and he is pooing again.
Vooled boiled water .....just a few minutes of glugging, he wont need much

BanglesSpangles · 03/03/2015 20:38

Ooh geeky- like it! My achievements for today:
-hoovered and dusted while LO slept
-powered through the ironing while watching rubbish daytime telly
-Read three chapters of a trashy book

Aforementioned LO is very firmly asleep at the mo though. Which is not boding well for my night- he's slept SO much today, think he may be awake a lot tonight!

Postit- no advice, but hope you don't feel rotten for too long

Memphisbelly · 03/03/2015 21:07

My day has been having poorly boy on me all day, dh came home and I blitzed the kitchen and had a bath, and cooked sausage and mash, LO has just settled on dh in just a nappy and a soft blanket, wondering if with his chest feeling tight he has felt restricted in clothes

Grinningcat · 03/03/2015 21:48

We have decided to give DS a bottle of formula tonight as he is getting so frustrated and I am getting so upset with breast feeding. We seem to be pretty okay with my left boob, but he doesn't seem to like my right and it is agony when he feeds from it. Thinking of trying mixed feeding at least for a couple of days to see how it goes. Thinking of feeding him from the left breast and expressing from the right if I can, with some formula feeding thrown in. No idea if this will work, but I am close to giving up.

loopsyloup · 03/03/2015 22:23

Postit - I have an infection in my wound too but it stopped hurting after a day of antibiotics so I hope yours does too. It was pretty gross though and smelt 'funky', at least that was what my mw called it. Sure that isn't the technical term!

Memphis hope your lo gets better soon. So impressed with your approach, as I said before you seem so calm which must be so hard.

Good luck with whatever feeding style you end up with Grinning. Whatever makes you and your lo happy is the best, whatever that is!

Frenetic so glad you've managed to catch up on sleep a bit. Maybe book someone in to help again in a few days time so you know you've got some respite coming??

Anyone got advice for me? My dd2 gets on the boob ok but starts coughing about 30 secs in and has to come off to splutter for a bit, meanwhile I've got milk spraying out all over the place, usually getting my bra and top wet and sometimes her onesie too. Not so bad at home as doesn't matter so much that I've got a nipple out while she coughs but when we are out I just don't have enough hands to cover myself up and hold a spluttering baby and catch the leaking milk! Maybe I just have to resign myself to changing my clothes a lot... Anyone else got ideas or even having the same problem with what I think must be a fast let down?

Hope everyone has a good night!

LittleMissSunshine33 · 04/03/2015 00:22

My poor little one has colic but the health visitor called it evening colic! The only thing that calms him down is being attached to my boo where he isn't really drinking he's just using it as a comforter ... Will need matchsticks to hold open eyes in the morning!

Any tips suggestions for colic/wind welcome!

LittleMissSunshine33 · 04/03/2015 00:23

*boob not boo

LancashireTea · 04/03/2015 03:05

3 Fucking hour feed...and OH was asleep for most of it. I'm glad I got 2 hours kip earlier or my piss would be well and truly boiled.

BanglesSpangles · 04/03/2015 04:48

Balls- stupid ill fitting pampers- wee everywhere! Just had to strip him off snd start again and now he's wide awake

tiredvommachine · 04/03/2015 04:51

Pampers are shit. Hate it when that happens!

Popsicle30 · 04/03/2015 05:26

Hi All. I've not been on the past two days so just trying to catch up.

I hope everyone is getting on OK.

Memphis I hope your LO is on the mend. Poor little thing. Well done on being so calm at the time.

Frenetic so nice of your MIL. I'm glad you've had some rest.

I've had a trying couple of days with LO. Sunday night she had major trapped wind. She couldn't shift wind from her bottom and she was very uncomfortable. No sleep for me as the only comfortable position was feeding on me. Got infacol on Monday which has really helped. I think me consuming turnip may have been the cause..

Had a better night Monday although she wakes on average every 1-2 hrs for a feed. Yesterday was a nightmare - she wanted to be on me ALL day. She had no sleep and I think she pretty much drank me dry as she didn't seem to be getting anything. Resorted to formula top up last night which she wolfed down. She had that at 8.30pm with a breast top up (i think it was also a bit of a comforter). Then breast at 12.30am and just feeding her now on breast again.

Grinning I may go the mixed feeding route too. It broke my heart last night as I really want to breast feed. She was just so frustrated though and was obviously hungry.

One question I have about formula. If I went down that route 100% with no breast...what do people do about pre preparing bottles? It seems like hard work to prepare fresh every time plus how do you manage when out and about with bottles? The guidelines seem very against pre preparing.

I had wanted to start expressing this week. I had a little go on the manual pump yesterday but with LO not giving me much rest and with her being on most of the day we didn't have a successful first attempt. Would still ideally want to do breast and express but we shall see.

Confused
Emmie10 · 04/03/2015 07:44

Loopsy- I have a fast let down and oversupply. Tips I have been given are to start feed normally then lean back until let down has slowed, to express before starting feed, take baby off for let down and catch milk in a muslin. Fwiw I found by 6-8 weeks Dd was big enough to cope with the fast flow and hoping it will be the same for Ds.

BanglesSpangles · 04/03/2015 08:19

Bah! Another leak! Bloody pampers are going in the bin! Someone bought us a packet as a present, and weirdly until yesterday they havent leaked at all...

Popsicle- on bottle feeding, a few of us have been championing the tommy tippee perfect prep machine, which is great for making up bottles at home. When going out, i must admit ive just been filling up bottles with the right amount of boiled water, leaving ithem in the changing bag and mixing in the formula when its needed- totally against regulations, but i just havent worked out a sensible way to do it - if anyone has a good method id love to hear it!

Honeybird · 04/03/2015 08:19

Same here loopy, lo struggles and splutters with let down. I always have a cloth in my free hand and just cover up when she comes off. And like emmie, my previous two were either big enough or clever enough to deal with it before long. So many of the downsides to bf happen in the first month or two, just when you're feeling least able to cope with them.
