This is now ridiculous. Day 14 and she cluster fed from 10-12, had a long break until 3pm and hasn't stopped since (barring the odd 5/10 mins here and there). Thats now 8hrs of clusterfeeding!!! I'm exhausted. I want to sleep, in fact I can barely keep my eyes open. Had to come on here to try and stay awake. Doesn't help I'm still anemic and have a stubborn uti from the catheter.

loopsyloup · 24/02/2015 23:14

Good luck grinning!

WhyO - bloody hell, I'm amazed you're able to string a sentence together!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 24/02/2015 23:19

Memphis hope the baby gets better soon.

grinning good luck

Donkir DS was like that. Nothing any bf support people said helped with it. In the end we cluster fed 5-9, then gave a bottle of formula, every night. He slept a full 12-13hrs every night from 8-9weeks. Even when we swapped to ff he carried on cluster feeding at that time of night.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 25/02/2015 00:21

Over 9hrs!!! Looking like she might sleep very soon though. Crossing my fingers.

thingsarelookingup · 25/02/2015 01:35

I hope you get some sleep soon whyo and good luck grinning.

Finally got DH back after he spent a week in South Africa. I've had a friend here to help out but it's so nice to be back to just being our family again.

Memphisbelly · 25/02/2015 02:34

Good luck grinning

WhyO bloody hell no wonder you are shattered does it not wreck your nips?

Given up amd come downstairs, he is gasping for air lying down but ok propped up so im in sofa ando nce he drops off I will put him in his padded ring cushion, he sleeps well on it in the day so heres hoping for a few hours. Going to then attempt getting to docs for 8.30 to get appointment....this means us being ready 10 mins earlier than normal.....sounds fine but its bordering on impossible Grin

Grinningcat · 25/02/2015 02:36

Hope you have managed to get to sleep whyo.

Managed to get an hour in bed dozing between contractions, but decided to get up and watch that birthing programme that was on the bbc earlier this evening. I do believe in each to their own, but carrying around the placenta and leaving it attached to the baby for 9 days is a bit beyond my understanding.

Still getting moderately strong contractions between 6 and 12 mins apart. The last one was the the worst one yet. Trying to let DH sleep as much as he can.

freneticfox · 25/02/2015 02:38

WhyO - hope you're either fast asleep or at least hanging on in there.

Law of sod is at work tonight. Dex went down at 11pm, up at 1.50am and just dropped off again. And despite being do exhausted I can barely sit up, I can't drop off because he's doing his usual noisy grumbling that makes me think he's about to be awake... Anyone else got a sleep tease for a child?

Also left my pump downstairs so hand expressed to let some pressure off, then had to try and restrain my childish giggles as I squirted all over the bed. Now I have a proper flow, I'm going to need to revisit hand control...

Popsicle30 · 25/02/2015 03:35

Frenetic you made me giggle as I'm sat here feeding. Hand control! I too have a sleep tease child so feel your sleep deprived pain. How many weeks is your lo?

Good luck with everything Grinning! Hopefully you won't have long to wait.

WhyO I hope baby has stopped now for you to get some sleep. I know the pain of cluster feeding albeit i think her max time on is about 6 hrs. HV assures me it's just growth spurt and she's putting her milk request in. I wondered if she was getting enough but her weight has gone up and she's filling her nappies so must be.

Donkir I think you made a good decision if he drank all that. I hope the breast feeding support group are helpful too.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 25/02/2015 04:42

She did stop just after my last post. Thats got to be the longest cluster feed going let's hope she never does that again - don't think I could survive it again. Tbh I'm feeling a little cheated that she's up again already (slept 4hrs), as she had been clusterfeeding for 2-3hrs of an evening every night, but then sleeping 6solid hrs from midnight til 6, for the past week - I didn't say anything because it felt too smug to say and I didn't want to jinx it when others are having such trouble at night.

Memphis my nipples are a little sore but I think they've done incredibly well for the time she spent latched.

GeekyHybrid · 25/02/2015 05:47

That's impressive whyo, Isaac's day 5 spurt involved a 14 hour cluster feed and my nips only just survived though it was the point (well the morning after when I was capable of rational thought) when I thought 'I can do this' re bf.

grinning I hope things are still progressing, fingers crossed etc

Here I need to look for a touch lamp for the nursery with dim setting. I only turned the landing light on last night and did the nappy change / feeds by half light. The 1 am feed came down to just over 1 hour instead of 2 Grin I may of already slept 4 hours tonight and I've still got a session to go as he's just about done on this feed Grin (dimmed light in the bedroom - OH has gone to work)

PS - I forget who commented on 'phantom sleepers' but mine seems incapable of 'quiet sleep' especially when 1st sparko, chunters away so you're not certain whether he's actually settled or not. Hey ho, going to attempt transfer to moses as he seems to have finished Hmm

OP posts:
LittleMissSunshine33 · 25/02/2015 05:51

WhyO I'm the same LO was sleeping so well between feeds I was quietly confident! Now for some reason (I'm guessing 'growth spurt') he's wanting feeding every 2 hrs some times less! Doesn't help that I then get snappy at OH as he says "he needs feeding" as if it's just that easy every 2 hrs whilst he then carries on snoozing!

Memphisbelly · 25/02/2015 06:24

I too have a grunting sleeper.

Sadly he hasn't actually slept tonight, he is making some loud noises and uncomfy poor thing. He looks so frantic, he now doesn't cry for nappy changes so only cries for his frantic tea time hour paddy.
Im suppost to be going back to work for a trial day tomorrow but im unsure how I will cope as im shattered

Purpletoes · 25/02/2015 07:30

Hi everyone

So day 3 milk has come in with a vengeance ! I appear to have rock hard beach balls as boobsBlushBlush

Last night Alice basically cluster fed from 1030-5! I am wrecked and. Today is the first day my 3 yr old ds is home all day as well.

I feel it may be a coffee and sugar day today. BrewBiscuit

GeekyHybrid · 25/02/2015 08:53

I'd forget work if Donnie is poorly memphis, it's definitely a legitimate excuse and I'm sure your mum would understand!

purpletoes - they should settle after a few days but you will have a period of adjustment whilst your LO gets used to the 'proper' milk and attempts to set your production rate!

littlemiss my OH gets me riled too, I know he's really not good without plenty of sleep and yes, he does get woken when LO kicks off BUT he goes back to sleep, I'm the one up feeding for the next hour and doing nappy change! Grrr. Rant done Wink

Pop He's 13 days. Still very much new and loud!

Think last night was a good one, we were all asleep at the same time for at least a three hour stretch at one point.

tiredvommachine · 25/02/2015 12:26

My nipples hurt Sad
my Alfie has never gone longer than 3 hours without feeding since he was born and his latch isn't always the best.
Even when he isn't feeding, my boobs hurt and throb as if I've been punched in the chest. Odd.
Hugs to everyone else KOKO xx

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 25/02/2015 13:16

Still feeling knackered today. My boobs were HUGE this morning - worse than when milk first comes in. I had trouble latching her they were that full. So her order for extra milk worked fast (I thought it took a full day or two for the increased supply to happen).

Wow geeky 14hrs really is a long long clusterfeed - well done for getting through it!

grinning hope things have progressed well and there will be baby news soon.

tired have you got some lanisoh lanolin nipple cream? If not get some it really helps when they do some intense clusterfeeding. Also do you unlatch and relatch every time the latch isn't right? I had to do it a lot with DS but have been really lucky with DD.

LittleMissSunshine33 · 25/02/2015 13:34

How do you know if they haven't latched right? Some times it does hurt more than other times but can still feel him sucking and milk going out, will he still be able to do this if he hasn't latched properly?

GeekyHybrid · 25/02/2015 13:47

littlemiss the main clue to a 'good ' latch or not is the shape of your nipple when they let go, if it's still round then they're getting the milk most efficiently, if it's flat then they're having to work a lot harder to get the milk thus more likely to cause you pain whilst feeding, sore nips etc as well as maybe not getting enough Hmm I had to do loads of relatching whilst getting out of our wobble and I'm still lazy in the middle of the night! Especially if we're in bed Blush

He hasn't slept for more than 20 mins since his 8am feed and has been on and off the boob all morning so I'm still in my PJ's and haven't got anything done Blush OH is home now so may attempt productive movement, wish me luck!

So got doctors he was very pale and gasping for air but airways clear and so is chest. He checks him over and after asking me questions says he has reflux, ds1 had this but not presenting this way he said lots of wayx it comes through he said gasping for air, lack of latch, tsking an agevto feed, not burping and the annoying nightly grunts all point to it! Gave me some gaviscon and said I will know within 24 hours

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 25/02/2015 14:16

Littlemiss if latch isn't right, they can still get milk but it won't flow as easily, so they have to work harder and may not get enough, its also much worse for your nipples.

Mainly you can tell by a combination of feel, looking at position and shape of lips whilst they are sucking (look up online about correct positioning - i cant explain it, i just know when i look now) and as geeky says shape of nipple afterwards.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 25/02/2015 14:18

Memphis keeping fingers crossed it helps your little man feel better soon.

Memphisbelly · 25/02/2015 18:26

Well dose one of gaviscon down and he is burping like I have made him down fizzy pop! He never ever burps!

tiredvommachine · 25/02/2015 19:01

That's good memphis, let's hope it does the trick.
I have bought some magic cream today for my boobies, hope it helps.
I do try and re attach him when his latch is bad but sometimes it seems that he keeps going back on in the exact position.
I've just finished feeding him and he sucks so hard, the tip of my left nipples is white! Confused
