beasty I'm feeling the terrible 2s over here as well. Not so much tantrums as hysterical crying over nothing, super jealous of dd1&2 and generally being rather demanding!

MrsNutella · 17/03/2015 08:46

Morning! Thanks ladies.

I'm thinking about switching to a bit of mixed feeding so that I can get a bit of a break from DD. She is like DS was at this age, trying to feed her during the day is a fight and it would be so much easier to give her a bottle. When a quiet feed at night or in the morning is lovely. Feeding during the day just causes me shoulder and neck pain!

MrsNutella · 17/03/2015 13:00

As a treat I bought DD a jar of Spag Bol from hipp (they seem to be the "baby food rulers" here).
The jar said it was for 12 months and up - it is chunky for baby to learn how to chew Confused and the veggie jar I bought is ages 10 months and up with small chunks... Jeeeeez I'm glad I haven't bothered with purées ... Did anyone do purée weaning? Is it as regimented in the UK as it is here? ie smooth purée to start and gradually increasing the chunks very slowly before letting baby anywhere near a solid piece of anything?

I'm not against purée but bits of whatever I am eating BLW seems so easy when compared with all the stress I here from German mummies and they seem to do a lot of weighing out everything too. I've even known at least one mummy who weighed the purée before and after to check how much her son was eating while i would give DS a breadstick or rice cake or bit of banana etc etc when he was in the mood ...

ThreeFrazzledFandangos · 17/03/2015 13:05

I never did smooth purees Nutella, J walloped down fork mash and finger foods from the start and I was way to lazy to blend.

I couldn't be arsed with weighing baby food, half of it ends up in their hair/tray/down their front anyway.

Hope you're on the mend Barbeasty, sickness + kids = hell on earth.

Same as fandango really! Smushed up some veggies till he got used to it then gave him a bit of our dinner. Whizzed up if it was funny sized lumps like mince, or minus the gravy for stuff like roast chicken

halestone · 17/03/2015 13:23

Nutella i'm another that didn't blend anything just went with the flow. The 1st thing she ever ate though was mushy peasBlush

MrsNutella · 17/03/2015 13:41

I hadn't really thought about it before - the progression from smooth to lumpy because DS wouldn't eat jars/anything with tomato in so just did a bit of porridge (or similar) for when I want to know they are full and sticks of stuff when I have time for them to play. It was only buying the jars today that I noticed different sizes of lumps.... I think they are super strict here with it though and it got me thinking.

Thank you!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/03/2015 15:56

WL glad you're getting more sleep.

Nutella we did a bit of purées Ella's kitchen but mainly just what we were eating.

Ds has his 'two year' check tomorrow hope it goes ok.

ThreeFrazzledFandangos · 17/03/2015 20:38

Good luck F. Ours has been renamed the 2.5 year check as they were so behind!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/03/2015 06:34

Yes ours is the 27 month check Grin

Both dc have stopped waking up before the alarm phew!

utopian99 · 18/03/2015 09:34

O had his '2 year' check at 22 months and again at 27 months! No one seems too bothered though.

We did general fork mash and finger food too. I'm weirdly excited to introduce A to food. He's on the verge of expressing an interest, and has had two teeth since 2 mo with two more coming through now (4 mo), so tempted to let him lick/gnaw big lumps (I e. Big enough not to swallow/no choke risk) as soon as he's nosy enough..

WLmum · 18/03/2015 11:54

Happy birthday to me! Celebrations so far consist of helping out in dd2s class - so cute! And a peaceful hour in a lovely coffee shop alone with my book.
This afternoon will bring chocolate creations and then db is babysitting (and dm sitting) so DH and I can out for dinner.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/03/2015 12:04

Happy birthday WL! The sun is shining for you Smile how is dd2 getting along at school now?

Ds' check went well he matched all the colours and did all the building blocks and pegs etc. She's going to phone in 3/4 months to check his speech but he's putting 4/5 words together now so I'm not worried, his favourite being 'more cake please mummy'

halestone · 18/03/2015 12:08

Thanks Wine Happy Birthday WLWine Thanks sounds like a perfect day you have plannedGrin

Spotty well done to F Grin

We are lucky were we live H got her 2 year check about a month after her 2nd birthday, but its not the HV that does it, its the nursery nurse who is attached to the HV team.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/03/2015 12:14

Nursery nurse here too. Oh I did get told off for not giving ds vitamins

SpottyTeacakes · 18/03/2015 14:55

I've decided to make an appt to view the preschool at dds school. It's rated outstanding by Ofsted but I just love the one dd went too. It's twenty minutes in the opposite direction though and £££. Such a hard decision Blush

MrsNutella · 18/03/2015 19:08

WL HAPPY BIRTHDAY! here Wine Cake and more Cake I hope you have a lovely evening out with DH. You both deserve a fabulous and relaxing meal. Flowers

Spotty that all sounds great, well done DS! there are no easy decisions I think, sorry Flowers for you too.

utopian DD was not interested in food at all.... Until one day she desperately wanted to try my dinner... Which was chips. Oops. Now she eats everything and lots of it! She gets really grumpy if food time is delayed Shock although she only has lunch and dinner because I'm too lazy to get her up for breakfast.

DD has two more teeth coming (that will be 7!) so I hope that is why she has been grumbling. If I had a clue how to bet I would go and put money on her having 8 teeth by April. I think she has grown again too. She is making all the dresses I just bought for her look like long jumpers again! Confused I'm going to ask the PIL for clothes for Easter for her.

DeladionInch · 18/03/2015 20:14

Cake WL

Barbeasty · 18/03/2015 20:44

Happy birthday WL

Spotty take a look with an open mind. We have been pleasantly surprised with A's move. Are there children in your DD's class who went there and whose parents would give you an honest view?

A managed to set the alarm on a digital watch the other night, and got really scared when it went off in the early hours. Except all he could tell us was the noise scared him, and he managed to snooze the alarm. So it went off again, more fear, more snooze. Thankfully the 3rd time DH was in the room and realised what was happening!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/03/2015 08:33

The bin men waving and Ds makes his (and my!) day Smile

halestone · 19/03/2015 10:21

Awww spotty thats cute on of my friends use to be obsessed with the bin men when he was a toddler and use to say to his mum, when i'm older i really want to be a binman. His family use to take the mick out of him when he was in high school. He is a bin man now though and loves itGrin

OP posts:
MrsNutella · 19/03/2015 10:53

Spotty DS loves the bin men too! I've seen the bin lorries driving past a nursery and waving at a row of kids with their noises pressed against the windows Grin that must be a nice part of the job!

Hales it should not be underrated that loving your job is a good thing to have in life - I appreciate this might seem a bit ironic given your current problem with the twunt at work. Flowers I hope she gets over herself or you find something new soon.

halestone · 19/03/2015 11:03

I agree completely Nutella just makes me chuckle that he knew from a toddler exactly what he wanted and he made it come true. I am chuft for him.
