Hi havent posted for ages..but have been reading up on where you are all up to. Top tip I hope for all those babies (who like mine) are not sleeping completely through ...yet (fingers crossed x a million).

My little Reuben seems to have developed this lovely habit just recently when he wakes in the night - which is often due to being congested not for food! - he rubs his face in his little blankie which he has become attached to during the day. He does this several times - turning his head from one side to the other, then back to the blankie for another fix - before drifting off again. SOOO get them attached to something during the day - I have been playing a game where I snuggle a flat sheet around his cheeks and he loves that, just when his eyes are starting to go red around the eyebrows or he starts to yawn. It seems to be working so far! On the odd occasion that this doesnt work - he also has a drink of water as I found this out by accident. One night he woke asking for food - but tried cooled boiled water and YEAH after a big drink for a few minutes (about 1 - 2oz) he fell back to sleep! Hope this might help you get an extra few hours/minutes of precious sleep!

Us and Bump - DS has had cold after cold after cold since first jabs - but on + side Ive been told on countless occasions by HV and Doctors that he should end up with a really robust immune system as a result of all this suffering!

maewickedwitchofthewest · 27/10/2006 13:47

I don't do dreamfeed (hadn't heard of it before MN) but the first time Dom slept thro he woke at 10.30ish and had a good feed after going down at 7pm, so in effect he was doing his own dreamfeed. Some of my NCT group (bfing) do it by getting partners to give bottle of EBM. I think that by about 6 wks he was going from 7 until midnight, didn't want to mess with it, just to see how it went. He has now slept thro 2 nights on the trot ( where's a bit of wood when you need it) which is amazing.

We went to baby massage class yesterday (did legs) and he loved it! Had a really good feed and slept really well afterwards as well.

kbaby · 27/10/2006 14:44

im going back to work at the middle of jan, 4 days a week. Im lucky because mil will look after both and so we only have to pay for dd's preschool fees, plus I dont think im cut out to be a sahm I feel like im going bonkers already and ive only been off work 3 months. Im finding it so tiring and demanding plus DD is terrible if you stay in the house with her but theres only so many activities you can do. I also find myself doing the housework because im so bored every day. I envy those who are sahm but I know I couldnt do it.
Kazed - Did you really earn 200k!! what was your occupation?
Bloss - How do you manage to get both in bed by 6pm. DD wont go until 8pm. My friends little boy who is 2 sleeps for 2hrs in the day and is in bed at 6pm to 7am!!! I wish DD would oblidge but any earlier than 8pm and she wakes in the night.

My nipple is soooooo sore and its not helping that DS keeps twisting his head, chewing it, turning away and playing with it.

Right im deffo going to give the dream feed a try tonight. Last night ds fed at 8 and I didnt have the heart to wake him b4 I went to bed at 10 but then he woke at 11 anyway so I may aswell of just woken him.

Afternoon ladies

Yet again been rained off gardening-mum and dad were helping me.

Grim-rolling for the first time is sooo exciting isn't it?

kbaby-ooh, sore nips [ouch]. No pain worse-well, apart from contractions!

Splat-good to hear from you-glad all is going well.

Not intending to attempt work until May then only if I can do 10-2 x 2 days. Shouldn't think the Bank will agree to that.

kayzed-on the subject of 'cuppas' when is it OK to give a child tea and coffee? I don't but MIL will not stop giving DD1 tea and coffee even though I said no!

Put Sophie in one of DD1's 0-3 month outfits today (see piccie below) as she is 4 months today. Dug out piccie of DD1 in the same outfit at 4 months and what a chubster she was and weighed 16 lb as opposed to Sophie's 11 lb.

Here is the piccie I took this morning Sophie and Emma

Off to mum and dad's for tea so byee for now.

HC- wow they're both soo beautiful!!! they have the same lovely eyes!!

i wouldn't give dd anything like tea or coffee until she is around 8-10 aswell, till then she will have to stck to water, milk and juice!

i go back to work in 2 weeks time, i'll be doing saturdays 9-6 and sundays when they need more staff ( i work in boots). i went back to work 3 weeks after having dd and i loved it!! needed space away from family life!

HumphreysCoroner · 27/10/2006 16:28

You are all so kind

Sophie looks similar to DD1 but her face and infact all of her is so much thinner.

My MIL is a pain in the a**e! I give DD1 hot chocolate and that is all. But, once again, MIL only does what she wants to do. Told DD1 to tell her she doesn't want tea or coffee and she will

mummified-good luck with work. Busy, busy time of year for Boots.

Right, am deffo going now.

Hi girls,

How horrid is this weather?

RE work: I am still not sure what I am going to do. Definately not going back to where I am on mat leave from as they are not a good company to work for and not at all child friendly. Just don't really know what to do yet.

I am sooo proud of myself today as I have just been swimming for the first time in years and I did 60 lengths. How cool am I???

HC- Your girls really are little cuties aren't they?

Anyway, bye for now

Jeanie

maewickedwitchofthewest · 27/10/2006 19:32

HC - what lovely girls!

kbaby - Dom does this sometimes, pulling on the nipple and really jerking his head around and it does hurt, you have my sympathies.

Work - not made up my mind. I have pretty much decided to take the whole year (2nd 6 months unpaid) so have some time to decide. I've been with the company 6 yrs, almost since it started and feel that I've gone as far as I can go with it (it's v small, around 12 employees). We can pretty much manage on DH's salary and also have some savings. Feel like I want to use my brain tho, and have some time not just being a mummy so am considering finishing my OU degree. Then there's the thorny question of another baby/babies as don't think i want Dom to be an only...

Wallace · 27/10/2006 21:29

Have never done a dreamfeed - can never bring myself to disturb a sleeping baby!

HC - your girls are beautiful, what a lovely photo with Sopie looking straight at the camera

at Roshi's tooth - is she the first on this thread?

kaby - poor you with your sore nipple. If it is just one could yuo try feeding him from one side and expressing from the sore side? Could it be thrush or something?

I don't give my kids tea. When I was a child we used to have what my mum called "Cambric (?)" tea which was a cup of tea with out the actual tea. It was lovely, but sugary of course.

I have just borrowed some washable nappies from a friend to try, if I get on fine with them I will buy them from her. Leo looks so cute in the fleecy wraps

FesteringAtForty · 27/10/2006 23:13

Hi all

HC ? lovely pic. what a pair of cuties!

Maewest ? Dom?s gorgeous, love his little outfit!

Usandbump ? sorry to hear about the lack of sleep and horrid AFs hope things are getting better for you now xx

KZ ? congrats on Roshi?s first tooth!

Re dream feed ? don?t know if what I do counts really, it involves picking her up from ?downstairs bed? (either bouncer or moses basket) where she is usually asleep, and taking her upstairs when we go to bed. She always wakes up as has to have nappy changed and grobag put on etc. I feed her in bed then put her into the crib. She usually sleeps from around midnight through till between 6am ? 8.30am.

It tends to be the frigging dog now who wakes us up in the night, she has taken to pacing the floorboards at all hours with her clattery claws, then whining to be taken out. Maybe it?s baby jealousy!

SleepIsForTheDead · 28/10/2006 13:03

Hi,

I went out last night!!
Stumbled in at 1am, to an awake DH and Baby...
we all went to sleep and the DS woke up at 2, 4, 8!!!!!!
It is like he knew I would struggle, the brat!

Some of the cafes around here sell "babychinos" which is basically warm milk with foam on top, so it looks like a cappucino and the kids don't feel left out awwww....

Got offered a contract job today, so going in for a meeting on Monday, sadly we need the money... I would have rather waited another few months. But the good thing is I can work from my studio which is close to home, and can keep LO with me, although how much work I will get done is another story. The odd meeting I go to, I will get my SIL to babysit. Not sure how my brain will function tho - I seem to be constantly forgetting words!

ah well
Enjoy your weekends
x

Wallace · 29/10/2006 09:15

LOL kayzed
sleepisforthedead - are you nixnoo, or am I getting confused?

We are all laid low with a D& V virus, so not a very good night last night. Even Leo is projectile vomiting. Typical that this happens just when I start cloth nappies, but that's life! I have about 3 loads of puke covered washing to wash before I can even think about doing a load of nappies. Leo is back in disposables til this bug has gone!

maewickedwitchofthewest · 29/10/2006 11:40

Wallace - Dom is temporarily in disposables as he has spectacularly grown out of his wraps and we have to wait until next week to get the next size up. He has also gone from one poo a day (after his morning feed) to anything up to 3 or 4 so secretly quite glad .

Also, those of you with older kids, what's your view on Trick or Treating? DH is a bit of a grumpy one and usually refuses to answer the door, but it's usually just local kids from our Close. Should I get some sweets in this yr? (altho some of them ask for cash - and that's just cheeky)

HumphreysCoroner · 29/10/2006 14:36

I don't give cash to Trick or Treaters-I buy the funsize bars of choccie so they can pick one each. They look at you with but you can't split 20p between 5 or 6 children. (I is a miser )

prettymummified · 29/10/2006 14:50

we dont seem to get trick or treaters around ours sop saves us the bother!!

junior was real good yesterday, went to bed at 8pm and woke once for a feed and slept through till 7.30 this morning, had a very relaxing evening!!

he has been cat napping the last few days, he'll sleep for around 15-20 mins couple of times a day, but he does settle himself to sleep which im really happy about. its only evening time does he start making a real fuss about sleeping!!

HumphreysCoroner · 29/10/2006 15:47

jamiesam had her baby boy on the 16th October-Freddie 8lb 5oz
