my lo hasnt settled into a good night time routine yet aswll!! he falls asleep anytime between 7.30-9 then wakes around 10.30, goes back to sleep around 11-11.30, then wakes for a feed at 3 and 7.

daytime naps can last around 45 mins and a long one around 3, thats probably why he settles late in the evening!!

kz- gorgeous kids!!!! ds has started lifting himself forward now and nearly dropped off the couch the other day!! he hates lying down, he likes being held up, might be getting out the door bouncy thing out soon!!

wallace- lol at your dh watering down the milk!! dp managed to get ds to sleep in his arm when he got tired and was really proud of himself!! obviously i was the one who told him how to do it!!

wecome newmum36- ds is currently drinking 5-6 ounces every 3-4 hours but he doesnt sleep through like your lo , my ds has his good days but mainly bad where he'll wwake for 1 or 2 feeds during the night!!

Wallace · 20/10/2006 11:40

Poor Roshi We do heat our room (Leo is in with us) in the depths of winter, but we do have ice on the inside of the windows if we don't! No heater at the moment as Leo's moses basket is right beside the heater. I will be changing the room around soon so the heater can go on. We don't heat it to 18 degrees though - as long as it is warmer than 14 it's okay (I'm on the lookout for some extra warm sleeping bags!) Also I need to bite the bullet and put Leo in a cot - he started sleeping through just when I was htinking about changing to the cot, and now I am scared to change anything in case he stops sleeping well! Anyone else's baby still in a moses basket?

Welcome to newmum36 - Leo (12 weeks) sucks his thumb too, and I think this is the key to his sleeping. We hear him sucking away in the middle of the night

Wallace · 20/10/2006 11:45

I do sympathise with those having bad nights - I always say to people "Well it took me 3 trys to get one that sleeps!" (Leo is my third)

kbaby - Leo hardly sleeps at all during the day. He will sometimes go back to sleep in the morning for a couple of hours, but after that nothing. I read somewhere that babies of his age are supposed to sleep for 10 hours at night and 5 hours during the day (not all at once obviously!) Leo gets nothing like that during the day, but will sleep 13 hours at night if he has a feed after about 8 or 9 hours.

Took Emma to the clinic this morning and weighed her, she?s 11lbs 13oz, so just below 25th percentile. Doesn?t look as bad as I thought it might on the graph (especially now I?ve got her age right ), though the line has dipped a bit. HV said just to see how she goes for a few days, if it continues then make an appt with the doctor. She seems to be feeding better now I?m feeding her upright, still back arching but not fussing so much.

Usandbump ? funnily enough I tried gripe water yesterday evening just after a feed. Not sure if that helped with the feeding but she did do a big burp afterwards so that?s ALWAYS good! Sorry to hear the extra blanket made no difference, ? I really have no idea what the ?correct? blanket / sheet / grobag / cardy / pyjama top combo is though. The Grobag instructions mention pyjama tops if it?s cooler but Emma doesn?t have any of those (nor have I been able to find any in the shops in her size ) which is why I started using light cardy?s or hoody tops over the sleepsuit. However this really depends on whether there are any clean ones available . I suppose generally it?s better to keep them a bit cooler though for safety.

Kbaby ? Emma doesn?t really have fixed times for waking / sleeping, but she does seem to have a pattern of 1. feeding 2. calm wakefulness 3, manic wakefulness (accompanied by incredibly loud pterodactyl-type vocalisations ) 4. tired grumpiness/crying and (if we?re lucky) 5. sleep again. I suppose the cycle?s generally about 3 hours.
She likes the pram, both her lie-down one and the buggy where she?s a bit more upright. She has taken a dislike to the sling though for some reason.

Newmum, welcome not really sure about your feeding question, but I?d agree if he seems well otherwise he?s probably taking what he needs. Good that he?s found his thumb, I wish Emma would find hers, I?m getting v tired of being the ?dummy replacer?!

Kayzed and Wallace ? GORGEOUS pics! They both look so cheeky and alert

Kayzed ? it must be really difficult having to deal with the dressings etc. Hope the healing continues well.

Wallace ? love that story about the milk, if only life was that easy! I nearly told it to DP but decided not to, I don?t want him starting to wonder what I?m saying about him! It is really hard not to criticise sometimes (or to offer ?helpful? suggestions ).
Emma sleeps in a moses basket downstairs sometimes during the day, she sleeps in a crib in our room at night on a Sleepcurve mattress (the one with the dip for the head). She will probably need a cot before she?s 6 months though, as she bangs her arms on the crib bars sometimes. We don?t have the heating on yet but I guess it won?t be long.

Will catch up later but wanted to give hugs to Koshka at this difficult time. Just seen her on the PG thread. (((((xxxxx)))))

Annie29 · 20/10/2006 12:23

HI girls
all those photos are gorgeous, love the one of you and Roshi, KZ, and Wallace, Leo in the washing basket is gas!!
Had a mixed day yesterday, went to a mother and baby group in the morning, and that was great, DS loved it, just took off on his own and played in the toy kitchen mostly... And he got a kiss off a little girl... Kayley was being very nosey as well. Met a few really nice mums as well

then in the afternoon, DS wouldn't go for his nap, threw his lunch everywhere, and Kayley was screaming for what seemed like hours. It got to the stage where I texted DH to hurry home as I thought I might go bonkers. Anyway, I got over it. She's only slept through once so far, despite FF, so I don't know if I'll ever get any sleep. She's still fairly random with her feeding as well, I'm just doing it on demand really, whether this is good or bad I don't know. quick question for you FFers, how do you know when to move onto the next size teat? She's on the number 2 at the moment, seems fine, but I think I read somewhere it only takes a few weeks on each one...

Wallace is Leo still in his Moses basket? He must be diddy! Kayley was squished in hers at 10 weeks, and I've sold it on eBay now, which makes me quite sad...

Must go, lots of crumbs...

Hi ladies, and welcome newmum . My boy started sleeping soooo much better when he found his thumb (he is bf). Sometimes I hear really loud sucking followed by a mahoosive fart, ah how adorable babies are.

Dom is still in his basket, but is long in the body and legs, so nearly reaching the end. He is also starting to fill it sideways, so really have to think about moving him out. I have started putting him in it during the day (up in our room) when we're at home when he makes sleepy noises and he quite often sucks his thumb and drifts off for 45 mins to an hour. I then switch the monitor on downstairs and run around doing the housework (messing about on MN really). Think I might try putting the basket in his cotbed in his room during the day next week, to get him used to a new ceiling! His arms wallop the side of the basket, but he does seem to like being tucked in snug and this is harder to do in the cotbed as he is still diddy.

Wallace · 20/10/2006 13:39

Sounds like the thumb sucking is the key to the sleeping. And it looks so sweet - I might just have to take a photo

LOL at Leo being diddly - he is over the 91st percentile for weight and height He does fill the moses basket quiet well, and his arms hit the sides and we hear him banging his hand off the heater beside him (not switched on). I'm so worried that he won't sleep when he goes in a cot - I'll probably still be putting him in his moses basket when he's two

HumphreysCoroner · 20/10/2006 13:58

Hello again girlies

Welcome to newmum and congratulations hun

Have been to baby swim class, had some lunch and now Sophie is fast asleep. She has slept through until 6-15 am two nights in a row. Trouble is I wake up and wonder why she hasn't and end up laying awake listening. Won't be long before she will have to go in her cotbed in her own room as the pram won't be that comfortable for much longer.

kayzed-brill piccies, v. professional. DD1 goes up to Sophie when she is asleep and shouts-oh, Sophie's awake now mum. Grrrh-well, she will be now! I feel guilty shoving her into another room where she promptly says that we don't have to whisper in here do we?

Annie-DD1 was FF and I used 2 hole teats from birth until she stopped having a bottle at 2 1/2 so you maybe don't need to change. Still using size 2 for Sophie's bottles when she has the odd one or two.

Festering-Sophie is only 11lb 6oz at 16 weeks and just above the 2nd percentile-no wonder she is still in some 7lb clothes and all 10lb clothes. My HV said not to wind babies and getting them to burp only makes us feel better.

Have reported laptop man to Ebay so waiting for a response.

Well, must go and hang some washing out. Bye for now and love to all.

xxx

I'm bf and if I don't get a burp out of Max, he really suffers later.

HumphreysCoroner · 20/10/2006 15:58

As we are doing piccies, here is one I've just taken

Sophie

kayzed-you might be right about the HV-although I got the impression she mean FF babies too.

hi all,

Just a quick note to say that I was just writing a nice long post and then accidently deleted it all, grrrh.

Can not be bothered to type it all out again at the mo, so will say hello and goodbye and catch you all again.

It's so annoying when that happens!!

JeanieG · 20/10/2006 18:42

Hi all,

Here's my contribution to the pics. I took the ones of her looking a bit crazy this morning!
Abbey and Co

Will hopefully be able to catch up and post properly in a bit, but have a very unsettled Abbey on my lap. She had her second round of jabs yesterday and has a temperature and is generally not a happy bunny.

Take care all

Love

Jeanie
