Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

The mws swaddled both of mine, I think with swaddles like the woombie or ergo cocoon where the tog rating of the swaddle is clear overheating risks are easily avoided.

MundayCakes85 · 21/10/2014 06:31

My LO doesn't like being swaddled, seems her arms have a mind of their own and she likes to touch her face when she sleeps.
Had to hand express some milk as boobs were huge but she didn't want both of them. Now have 3oz of milk in a bag in the fridge. What will DH make of that in the morning?!?

kittyvet · 21/10/2014 07:37

Very gingerly placing my stitched and tender bottom down in this thread! :)
Laura Rose was born yesterday 5.18am weighing in at 7lb 15. The midwives all said I am hardcore as pushed for 3 hours on gas and air only because she was occipital transverse! Finally made a sudden appearance with a twist! First night has been busy getting to grips with feeding. Looking forward to hearing more about what new mummies need to know!

fedupofrainydays · 21/10/2014 08:25

Nipple started to burn now Confused

Going to try walking round with boobs out to give then air. Should be interesting with carpet fitters coming this morn!!

R just puked over our new sofa! Good job we thought that may happen so didn't go for the really expensive one I liked.

I still have the odd night sweat now and also tiny bleed yesterday. And R is 5 weeks. My afterbirth pains were much much less painful this time though - last time it was as painful as contractions and I was worried the placenta was still trying to come out. Supposed to get worse with subsequent babies but not the case for me.

Fed up I'm four weeks down the line and still having the odd night sweat too Envy . Naice. Luckily just about finished bleeding and I can actually forget about my my CS wound for whole days at a time.

We had a much better night - just two night feeds! She's either out of that growth spurt or isn't comfort feeding anymore now I've cut soya? Ahhhh babies you're cute but god I love toddlerdom when the rampaging wee buggers can tell you what's wrong!

Right we're braving the storm to go to toddler group and then the ILs should arrive after lunch. Wish us luck!

Good luck to those with sore nethers - get your witch hazel in the fridge and slap it on a towel.

Jonas looked loads like his Dad but Lilla looks so much like me (and my twin sister) its uncanny - is anyone else suddenly startled by that. I'll be mid-bum change and suddenly Shock how much she looks like me when pissed off!!!

fedup do you have any lansinoh? its the only thing keeping my left nipple useable as I have two massive cracks that aren't healing

fedupofrainydays · 21/10/2014 09:26

Yes gun, slapping it on! I find it weird that 5 weeks in and it's randomly got sore. Been ok up til now.

I don't think R looks like either of us! Just a bit like his bro did when he was a baby.

Sitting on the sofa after the nursery run with R in the ergo so I can eat my breakfast! Haven't dropped any on his head yet which is more than I can say for last nights lasagne (ruined expensive babygro present Blush )

Now on with some more sorting whilst waiting for carpet people to arrive. I have a feeling they won't turn up til a really inconvenient time!

fedup , I can empathise. 4 weeks in and suddenly two hideous blisters have appeared. Lansinoh is currently my very best friend.

Baby doesn't look anything like either of us I don't think, though our respective mums each think she looks like us.

We had an in law trip with my parents this weekend. After sending MIL back home on day 2 after it became unbearable, I was worried but she was great and left me to it, without piling 500 blankets on the baby. She did ask me what we were going to call her though. Baby's a month old and we'd decided on day 1! Hmm

Hi ladies...just having a nosey at the late night feeding antics etc...looking forward to meeting bubba but not the feeding issues again!

Not much happening here...40+5 here & 14yr wedding anniversary...might need to give DH his anniversary gift tonight to get this bubba moving Grin...tho I did have a massive show this morning, so I'm hoping to avoid sweep no 2 tomorrow!

gun re nips that aren't healing...I've posted on fb but not sure if you're on there? Get to a pharmacy & ask for jelonet...is a Vaseline soaked gauze normally used for burns injuries. Cut a little square & place on your nipple after applying lansinoh & you can wear it with your bra...should heal over next few days. (Obv change small square after every couple of hours) Advice came from a lactation consultant with DD...I could have kissed her when she said bleeding cracked nipples aren't normal as no one else mentioned it really previously!

magichandles · 21/10/2014 12:29

Pregnant I've opted for DD1's party at soft play in a couple of weeks as well and am having exactly the same panic over people not RSVPing even though we sent the invites into school last week - only 3 people have replied as well, I'm kind of assuming that if someone couldn't make it they are more likely to let us know straight away?

Goats - I'm on Day 10 and so over bleeding as well, I'm changing my towel regularly but I'm starting to feel more sore down there and I think it's from wearing a slightly damp towel what seems like all day. I didn't bleed very much after the birth so she said that I'd probably get more lochia as a result - sigh.

MW has just been and was ready to sign us off until she weighed DD2 who hasn't regained her birthweight yet, which is a bit worrying considering she's FF and feeding ok. Other than that all is well here, other than DS who on the face of it is fine with his new little sister, but seems to be having a massive potty training regression which I can make DH deal with while he is still at home, but I'll quickly lose patience with as soon as I'm on my own!

mrsb87 · 21/10/2014 13:52

The bleeding is getting on my nerves now too. Felt a gush of it this morning which frightened me a little as it's been like a light period for a while now.

I have to go on antibiotics as I have an infection in my wound. What with that, painkillers and the nifedipine for the BP I'm going to rattle. I'm really worried it's going to affect/already is effecting Dylan. He is very sicky Sad
on the positive side I am enjoying wearing a pair of my non maternity, pre pregnancy jeans today and we're going to buy a carrier this afternoon

Pregnantagain7 · 21/10/2014 14:04

First day on my own with three under 4 today! It's actually going surprisingly well we were all washed, dressed and fed by 8.15 and got older dd to school on time. It was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be there is hope Grin

I've got a meeting at dds school tonight and I'm taking rocco with me and leaving the other three with my mum as dp is working late. Hope everyone behaves! :)

Me23 · 21/10/2014 15:20

Glad to hear your day is going well pregnant

I think I have a milk supply problem. My breasts don't ever feel full like they did with Ds for eg dd (finally) slept at 8:30am till 12 and my breast felt empty. They don't leak and although I can hear dd swallowing there's no gulping or lots of milk coming out and my other breast doesn't leak when she is feeding. Maybe it's all the medications I've been on and the stress. It would explain why dd wants to constantly feed.
Is anyone on here mix feeding? How are you doing it I.e how many bottles a day and how much?

fedupofrainydays · 21/10/2014 15:30

me I was recommended rescue remedy by health visitor to help with my stress and encourage let down. Might be worth a go? But medication could well be playing havoc with your supply. Is she gaining weight and doing lots of wet and dirty nappies? If yes then it's probably all fine

SweetPeaPods · 21/10/2014 15:45

Magic ds2 hasn't regained his birth weight yet, but mw still discharged us today.
Me I also mentioned to mw that breasts don't feel as full this time as they did with ds1. She said that's normal?! Does worry me though that they don't feel full and he's not regained birth weight yet.
What a miserable day we have here, so cold, wet & windy. Makes me want to hibernate!

clairemiss79 · 21/10/2014 15:46

me23 I'm trying to mix feed but the whole ff thing is very confusing. I'm taking 3 antibiotics for 2 weeks because of a uterine and urine infection following a c section. The meds have made my baby so sicky and fussy with awful diarrhoea i need some formula feeds to settle her at all. So I'm gonna continue bf for as long as my supply lasts and do 2 formula feeds a day.
Sounds to me like u could both do with a bottle. :)

RudyTuesday · 21/10/2014 16:22

Has anyone perfected trimming baby nails? I'm really nervous about doing it so have shoved on scratch mitts. Seems a shame to deprive him of a fist to suck tho.

YellowWellies · 21/10/2014 16:40

Rudy I chew their nails at this age - less scary!

Me it might be a second time thing - my boobs rarely feel as full as first time, but the other breast does leak. Wet and dirty nappies?

tak1ngchances · 21/10/2014 17:00

I am using the teeny clippers when she is asleep or very sleepy and not wriggling about!

mrsb87 · 21/10/2014 18:26

claire what antibiotics are you taking? That's worried me as I'm concerned all the meds I'm on is effecting Dylan already I don't want to make his sickness worse SadSad

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 21/10/2014 18:50

me like yellow I'm finding that my breasts are far softer second time round. One breast never seems to feel full but ds feeds from it fine - plenty of long swallows once the milk lets down. The other side has a faster flow and rarely feels as soft as the other side, but it certainly isn't engorged. I'm also only leaking from the non-feeding side sporadically - don't think I'll need breast pads for very long this time.

clairemiss79 · 21/10/2014 18:57

mrsb I'm on Co amoxiclav and trimethoprim and my baby sicks up most of every breastfeed and liquid watery poo. I'm hoping I'll be able to go back to bf so I'm expressing but I've to take the abs for 2 weeks. Did u have a uterine infection? What antibiotics did u get?

BadgerInBury · 21/10/2014 20:08

Whinge alert... I just had a big go at DP because he's decided that we're doing shifts with Baby Badger - ie. he's going to go to bed at 10:30pm like normal from now on and then take her downstairs with him when he wakes up (about 7:30am) so I can sleep later. The logic being that he'll have to sleep properly when he's back at work from November (his commute is long and his job dangerous) so we may as well get in a pattern now.

Which would be fine if BB didn't start bolt awake at 10pm and then want cuddles / movement / food until 4am every night. I'm EBF so I'd have to be up at various points anyway but it feels like DP is just abandoning me to deal with sleep deprivation and a fussy baby while nothing changes for him.

I feel a bit overwhelmed with it all. I know logically there's sense in it but I just feel really upset. Can't tell how much is real and how much is hormones. So, in the spirit of Mumsnet chat: AIBU??

YellowWellies · 21/10/2014 20:17

Badger YANBU I'd be cross, paternity leave is about Dad pitching in, not Dad preserving his sleep Envy .
