Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Lol mrsb ... There is nothing worse!

Yay me !! I couldnt have coped with that either

MundayCakes85 · 20/10/2014 22:02

Sorry some are struggling with insensitive house guests. My ILs are back weds and bringing great-granny as well!!
A question for experienced mums- what's the best way to wind a stubborn baby? Etta seems to be struggling to settle after a feed despite us trying our best to burp her Sad

ohthegoats · 20/10/2014 22:13

I'd really like to stop bleeding now. The thought that it might be 6 weeks or more is depressing. I'm obsessed with whether I'm leaking or smelling, wearing pads means I'm standing up gingerly just in case there's a flood. How people use sanitary towels during normal periods I have no idea - I have no confidence in them at all. I'd feel so much better in general if it would stop. Whinge.

oh, and it appears that we're starting another manic feeding night. Since 7pm I've had 15 min off, during which pip screamed and I shoved in a curry. Going to be dehydrated beyond reason tomorrow.

fedupofrainydays · 20/10/2014 22:17

Ah, constant feeding since 4pm here. My left nipple is agony. Not quite sure how that happened but ouch. Think in for a long night tonight...

Can't believe Rocco is a week old today I want to freeze time feel like he's changed so much already!
It's also dd2s 4th birthday today we went for tea with all the kids which was actualy really nice and much more chilled than I thought it would be.
I am stressing out about her party though I am having it at a soft play place so I have to do as little as possible I've invited 10 of her little friends fom pre school and so far only 3 have responded I don't know any of the parents and people drop of at different times so it's not even like I could ask any of them.
Also some of her other friends can't make it at this rate there is going to be no one there feel sick for her :(
Keeping fingers crossed for a flurry of responses towards the end of the week.

bumpbangbump · 20/10/2014 22:34

Always feel like I'm feeding non stop. Trying the swaddle tonight to see if it makes a difference and have also tilted the bednest to see if that means I can actually put dd down rather than have her in bed with me. She's definitely more windy than ds was but wakes up when I wonder her... Hope you all manage some sleep!

fatpony · 20/10/2014 22:47

Those with constant feeders tonight - it was me last night 5-11pm then he gave us two hrs, three hrs and two hrs between feeds and then we all slept in till 8.30am. Fingers crossed for you, and me again tonight.

YellowWellies · 20/10/2014 22:49

I can't believe Lillemor is a month old on Saturday! Which is also her due date and Jonas' 2nd birthday party.

Munday they're all different in terms of what winds them best. For J it was sitting him facing me in my lap, legs on my legs, body upright and making slow 'hula dancing' motions with his waist. With Lilla I hold her upright to me and just lean myself forwards and backwards.

Today I finally applied for child benefit and maternity allowance. Smile

YellowWellies · 20/10/2014 22:51

A couple of 2 hour stretches would be magic after seeing her virtually on the hour from 1-5am yesterday. I love how babies are experts at crushing your expectations! Wee sod I'd never normally be grateful for 4 broken hours of sleep! Smile Hmm

MundayCakes85 · 20/10/2014 23:00

Thanks Yellow think maybe she's comfort feeding so I've cracked out a dummy to try tomorrow when she kicks off!
Hoping to get a few more hours sleep tonight. Although I'll probably be on here in the wee hours Hmm
Good luck everyone!

binkybunny · 20/10/2014 23:21

Gingerly placing my bum in here, but might be a while before I post... unless my ward neighbour insists on snorting up flem and eating curry all night! Angry

RudyTuesday · 21/10/2014 00:19

Well done me, pleased you've not got to put up with that anymore.

We've had a few people just invite themselves over with the classic "we won't stay long", except they always have time for a cup of tea or two, and each need a ten minute hold of baby. I find it really rude, especially when we've said we'll let people know when we are ready for a visit. We had to turn away a spontaneous visit tonight cos I am shattered.

fedupofrainydays · 21/10/2014 02:37

How do you get rid of a sore nipple if you need to feed?! Ouchy.

R is 5 weeks today - wow that's gone quickly! I still think he's tiny although must be 8lb something now.

After last night's miracle sleep we're heading into our fifth hour of cluster feeding. I'm trying to stay awake but it's getting tougher... I mentioned to the MW and HW that she loved being swaddled and they both said we shouldn't be doing it because of the increased risk of SIDS. Gutted! It worked!

Me feeling for you with the PIL thing. DP's came and stayed four nights after BabyBadger arrived. Ma in particular made me want to boil my own head... So happy to have time now with just my boy and my baby!

fedupofrainydays · 21/10/2014 02:58

When ds was born 3 years ago, swaddling was the done thing. Now it's not?! I can't keep up. Is it cos of overheating? Swaddling ds here, but with his arms out. Think will
Move to sleeping bag soon once he's over 8lb 8 minimum.

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 21/10/2014 03:17

Argh on the swaddling / SIDS risk - anything that makes them sleep more deeply is a SIDS risk - sleeping on their tummy, hungry baby formula, being warm, swaddling - the best way to avoid SIDS is never to let them sleep, which sometimes I think this is Lilla's plan. Hmm

We don't smoke, I'm not drinking whilst BF (yet but by god once she's doing 4-5 hour stints I will be!), she sleeps right next to me in the bednest, I can't let her sleep on her tum yet because of reflux / choking risk so I'm comfy with the very limited risks we are taking - swaddling and a sheepskin. I really don't want to tempt fate but she needs to sleep too.

We too will be moving to a sleeping bag at 8lb 8oz as she's not got an especially strong startle reflex. I've ordered a ergo cocoon 2.5 tog to help with this (its a swaddle that becomes a sleeping bag). I like the idea of a formally tog rated swaddle (its 1 tog on the torso, 2.5 tog on the hips and legs) so I know exactly quite how warm she is / how well to dress her, with blanket swaddling I'm never confident she's not too hot / cold in the night.

She just gave me a 3 hour stretch of sleep! Finally!!!! She's fed and nodded off and just shat in her sleep, argh, noisy indignant nappy change alert! Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused

SweetPeaPods · 21/10/2014 03:40

Munday, with ds1 we found walking up and down the stairs was always guaranteed to bring up some wind with a good burp.
Goats I feel exactly the same with regards to bleeding. I'm bleeding much more this time, might need to buy more mat towels and really wish it would stop!
How long are all the babies taking to put birth weight back on? Ds2 lost 8oz by day 5, and was weighed today at 14days old but has only put on 2oz.

YellowWellies · 21/10/2014 03:43

Sweet pea DD only lost 5% and had put it back on by day 12. DS was much slower - I think day 19?

bumpbangbump · 21/10/2014 04:53

Dd lost 5g by day 5 and yesterday at day 15 had put on 14oz.

Swaddling and tilting the bednest has worked tonight. First night she's allowed me to actuallyut her anywhere but next to me in bed. Twp 3 hour chunks so far. Now to change her and finish this feed and hope she how's back down. Ds is at dm's tomorrow and oh is taking him before work. I plan to stay in bed for as long as possible!

RudyTuesday · 21/10/2014 05:09

Ds got back to birth weight by day ten. He's 18 days today and I reckon he's looking substantially bigger, am hoping the health visitor will weigh him today. I do love a chunky baby.

ohthegoats · 21/10/2014 05:53

Woohoo.. put her down at 2.10, she just woke me up at 5.45. Exciting! Shame I'd had to feed her for almost 6 hours constantly prior to that. But 3 and a half hours in one stretch is ace - most she's ever done.

fatpony · 21/10/2014 06:07

It's so exciting Goats osn't it!

The MW also mentioned not to swaddle at the hosp but i'll pretend I didn't hear her.

SweetPeaPods · 21/10/2014 06:17

My mw swaddled ds2!
