Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Hi punky and rudy .

Fingers crossed for sleep Punky. I've got myself a Medela pump for that reason- the first few days she was like a vampire feeding constantly all night. I wanted DP to have chance to share the night joys! It's worked well for us.

Rudy , congrats on your baby! The first weeks are hard! Hormones are crazy! I definitely stopped being as emotional when I forced myself to go out even if it was just for a walk to the shop. It helped make things seem more normal despite this new adorable scary little vampire in my house!
Thanks fedup for reassurance.

I got a ring sling and my attempt to put baby in it just ended with me almost severing my own arm Hmm

YellowWellies · 14/10/2014 20:16

Rudy get out to baby groups it'll do you the world of good; I think the only class you'd want to wait until post vaccinations is swimming? I was much the same with my first, what you describe is utterly normal. This time it feels so different. Whilst its harder trying to juggle two kids, emotionally I've found it much easier this time. Just keep an eye on your mood xxx

fedupofrainydays · 14/10/2014 20:37

I would ask local mums punky or the midwives sometimes know private places. My son had a 'mild' TT according to some midwives but since been snipped has def made a difference to his latch and length of feed (feeding frenzy aside). Def get it sorted.

Right - off to bed. DH home and I'm cracking through tiredness. Hoping for a better night tonight (and for you ladies too)

Yipes, it's taken me about 2 hours to catch up on this thread! Had been meaning to ask for the link to it but Mrsb very helpfully did so on FB so I'm parking myself down here now fairly gingerly!

When does your fanjo start to feel a bit more normal? I had an episiotomy, forceps delivery and catheter in for 3 nights so I know it's obviously going to take a while for down there to recover, just wondered if there was a nice golden 4 or 6 week (please no more?!) waddle-less marker I could look forward to Grin. We've been out for an hour's walk a couple of times in the last few days (though today DH very wisely wore Heidi in the carrier today, I was pooped after carrying her in her sling on Monday) and fairly felt the strain down below by the time we arrived home so I'm prob just being impatient! I even had the cheek to have a dirty dream about DH the other night and woke up feeling sorta horny, yeah that'll be shining bright?!!! MW and mum both suggested arnica gel but I don't have the courage to get a mirror down there apply it and I don't want to inflict the task on DH either! Glad to read about others having night sweats as well, I've felt like such a sweaty betty lately. I need to change our bedding before bed tonight as well as I reckon my boobs must have leaked on the sheets during a night feed, I'm sure I smelled sourness this morning, bleeee.

Meds-wise I was sent home with a monster bag of drugs from the hospital, I've to take ascorbic acid, ferrous sulphate and folic acid for 6 weeks due to blood loss in delivery, plus a week's worth of diclofenac and a fortnight's worth of paracetamol, I don't know why I'm not rattling while I walk! I've been pretty dutiful taking them but it's a PITA and makes me feel like I'm still a patient.

So far Heidi has given me a nice ride of it, at night we get a couple of 2 hour bursts of sleep and then 1 marathon 4ish hour kip before morning.

Epic post, sorry! Hope you get in some quality feeds and sleep tonight ladies x

Kirsti honestly my bits were much better two weeks post episiotomy and recovered in 4-6 weeks (though a bit tender in some nookie positions for 1-2 months after). 5-7 days post epi was the worst as the stitches tightened with healing - get the MW to snip them if they're sore - it doesn't hurt and the relief after was immense. Sod arnica gel and having to touch your bits (it took me weeks to even look Blush ) put some distilled witch hazel BP (1.99 a bottle in Boots first aid section) in the fridge and then dowse a maternity pad with it - bliss for episiotomies and it's antiseptic too. Repeat every time you change pads. I used to dance with relief from this. Smile

YellowWellies · 14/10/2014 22:07

I'm almost looking forward to night feeds with Lilla tonight, now DH is back at work and I'm looking after her and her brother means she's often second fiddle / has to wait until I've dealt with him, she's often just unceremoniously attached to a boob whilst I do other things, am going to try to savour a bit of newborn time tonight. Let's see how long that Zen attitude lasts! Grin

Kirstipops · 14/10/2014 22:28

Ohhhh Yellow, sticking the witch hazel in the fridge, excellent call! I have some but haven't been that liberal with it on the pads.
Sounds like a nice wee night in store Yellow! I'm thinking I might stick my wee fan on my bedside table in a bid to cool the sweaty beastness Hmm

fatpony · 14/10/2014 22:42

Good luck to everyone tonight! This LO has had some monster feeds this eve and currently looks like butter couldn't melt but I know better!

YellowWellies · 14/10/2014 22:48

I hate the post birth sweats! We're on day 19 and I'm still sweating like a sauteed thing at night. I don't remember it taking so long to lose my fluid last time? Though the sweats and BF is working so I shouldn't whinge - my bump / blamange belly (couldn't they have given me a post CS tummy tuck?!) fitted in some non maternity size 12 jeans today! Shock

Right night all! Firing sleepy dust at all the milk vampires Smile

porcito · 14/10/2014 23:59

The sweats. I'm a disgusting human by the time morning comes. Thank god they advise no sex for the first 6 weeks post partum. Fairly sure until then I'm naturally repellent.

We've had a scarily calm day - very quick feeds, lots of time awake but calm, just watching and a few sleeps. Waiting for it all to kick off at 11pm...

We've still got a touch of the yellow eyes here so back to the doctor tomorrow.

Ugh, I haven't been sweaty for a couple of nights yet bit wow, just woken up in a drenched bed! Already have had more sleep than last night - hurrah. Let's hope I get some more after this feed.

porcito my boy is still yellow too (a bit) but health visitor says it's just breastmilk jaudice and may last up to 3 months! Eeeek. Not entirely sure if I should get him another sbr test or not. No other jaundice symptoms either

I've got a stone left of baby weight. But that is just fat I know it is. The other two stone was all the fluid, baby, placenta etc. will start exercising again after 6 weeks and know I can shift it but I can also fit into some size 12 jeans! Normally a 10 so not far to go. Although not really bothered as quite like living in leggings!

OP posts:
Kirstipops · 15/10/2014 01:21

I've lost a stone in the last 10 days (half of that was baby tho!) , got another stone and a half to go, though 2 and a half would be nicerGrin
I second Lansinoh for nippy nips,it's faaaab!

fedupofrainydays · 15/10/2014 02:45

Can we talk poo? My sons is orangey at the mo and very runny. He has only done one other poo today so just had a massive clear out and a big cry with it just now. Anyone else have this?

We've had a full range of colours with poops, it's a delight. orange. yellow, brown, one green, one with what looked like paper in it. I think it just depends what I'be eaten that day. Garlic, spices etc seem to make her more uncomfortable.

We just went to a restaurant and she slept through the entire thing. Sure this means she'll be awake the whole night.

bumpbangbump · 15/10/2014 05:00

Best sleep so far! Let's hope this baby goes back down after this feed/nappy change. I'll be a new woman if she does.

fedupofrainydays · 15/10/2014 05:09

I feel like he's woken every hour tonight too. He was doing every 3 hours bit now seems every 1 -2. Hope this is short lived!

Good to hear some poo updates Wink.

Kirstipops · 15/10/2014 06:04

Yep we've had orange, like I'd fed her a few spoonfuls of turmeric kind of orange, delightful!

RudyTuesday · 15/10/2014 06:10

Pah. Rubbish night LO has been attached to me since midnight. Every time I've put him in bednest he has had major screaming fit. I brought him downstairs in the end so DP could at least sleep. Ended up watching bloody Loose Women, now staring gravel eyed at infomercials. I went online and ordered a sleepyhead out of desperation. We're supposed to be registering birth today, not sure I can face it in current zombie state

RudyTuesday · 15/10/2014 06:12

Oh and not encountered Orange poo yet. Just your typical yellow variety.

YellowWellies · 15/10/2014 07:34

I think orange poo is pretty normal - watch out for green poo after week one it can indicate they're getting too much foremilk and are having issues processing lactase - reduce pumping and keep them on one breast until totally empty to resolve this, even if it means not swopping sides for 2 feeds, it needs nipping in the bud early as it can cause nasty tummy problems.

We had a nearly four hour stretch after nights of 2 hour blocks! Whoop! Left her arms out of her swaddle and that seems to have helped her farting efforts Smile

fedupofrainydays · 15/10/2014 07:50

Ah rudy I was you yesterday. It's horrible. I just kept crying as was so tired and found everything overwhelming (mostly that my house is an utter tip and dust pit still in some area after the builders and I can't hack it!). Just veg today and try doze between feeds of you can
