Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Experienced feeders of newborns would you say this is normal pattern of night feeds for a three day old? He feeds a lot more at night. He conks it after one boob often so cannot offer the second. Have to say I find it hilarious that while I am trying to latch him on and he is staring at a giant boob two inches from his nose, he frantically tries to stuff both hands in his mouth therefore not helping at all:)

11.30/11.45
2.10-2.40
4-4.30
6-6.20

And here is the culprit hand stuffer in question!

Yes pony very normal! Unlikely to be any real pattern at 3 days old anyway and your milk at night is the creamiest / fattiest hence why they feed more then (annoying for us though!!)
My LO also does the hand stuffing thing despite a huge boob in front of his nose!

Thanks Fedup , just wanted to check he was feeding enough

porcito · 13/10/2014 13:48

I've been eating my way through everything I'd avoided in pregnancy. I spilt wine over her head BFing her. Bad mother. I think the rule is similar to drinking for BF and alcohol: if you're sober enough to drive it's OK. The Kellymom website has a good page with the logistics of it all (it was an issue very close to my heart as soon as she was out) Grin

Haha to the Mexico story! Yes, they do like the blondes! I'm in a tiny town a couple of hours away from Mexico City. There are precisely 8 other foreign people in a 50 km radius so already fairly noticeable! DP thinks that with my boobs out too I will be irresistible to all local gentlemen and they will come and pounce on me as I feed in the plaza. I'd like to point out the local gentlemen average about 300 years old and have no interest in a slightly disheveled looking foreigner with a wobbly belly! The rule here seems to be 'add another blanket'. Seriousky, at 30 degrees she is not cold! Mmm queso crisps. The others here are frankly dire. I miss a good old bag of salt and vinegar.

fedupofrainydays · 13/10/2014 16:30

Ha ha porcito!!! It's the old ones you have to watch out for...! I was pursued down the street by an old man with no teeth.

Torrential rain here. Had to take screaming baby out to pick up ds from nursery. All 3 of us soaked. Time for chocolate biscuits and cbeebies. Then ro clear up the mess!

Ds1 birthday tomorrow and I've forgotten a card. Surely he's too young to notice?! We have got him a bike and some more train tracks and trains so surely the lack of card will go unnoticed?!

Our house looks like a bomb has hit it. My attempts to tidy up involved making it worse (trying to clear stuff out) and then the tesco delivery arrived and there is food and packets of stuff everywhere (also sopping wet!) may need to crack open the 8 pack of kitchen roll!

fed up my Tesco delivery arrived and is in a similar state of disarray! Am so glad tea was put in the slow cooker first thing when I had energy and gave a shit!! as that's one less thing to worry about!

fedupofrainydays · 13/10/2014 17:21

Did you get my shower shine as I got your cif floor cleaner?!

I need to get the slow cooker out and start using it. Might wait til have the house sorted though!

Ha ha yellow! I can just picture the person pondering by the herb and spice section wondering what to swap it with. Could of at least gone for bouquet garni or however you spell it!

Welcome to new mummies! Glad to hear of your safe arrivals. Here we are at all hours of the night to talk! You know someone on this thread will be feeding at the same time as you even of that is 3 am!

YellowWellies · 13/10/2014 23:03

Yes I think we're busier at night! What with all the sleepsuited milk vampires! Envy

YellowWellies · 13/10/2014 23:06

My urgent mission tonight was to make a dairy free chocolate cake. Sod getting a shower without toddler and newborn. Hmm not sure about my priorities but I swear Lilla's having a growth spurt today - cluster feeding all day long so I need some calories. Still I can now BF whilst building a brio train track for J and dishing up lunch! Envy

SweetPeaPods · 14/10/2014 00:55

Anyone else miss being pregnant already? I was really fed up towards the end but now I can't help thinking what if I don't get pregnant again, what if that was my last pregnancy? I miss my bump!

fedupofrainydays · 14/10/2014 01:37

No seetpea but I do have pangs of 'is this my last newborn days?' And thinking must savour it!

porcito · 14/10/2014 02:52

I miss my giant stomach, bizarrely given I did nothing but complain about it for 6 months. I had a teary moment earlier thinking about if this was the only baby I get to have. The poor thing's not even 3 weeks. Though the way she's guzzled milk today, she'll be the size of an 18 year old by Friday.

I did the dreaded nail trim earlier - we still have all fingers/toes intact.

Has anyone heard from Slide and excited ? Hope they're both OK.

MundayCakes85 · 14/10/2014 02:59

Ouch my nipples hurt. Seem to have a cluster feeder. Will ask midwife tomorrow if maybe I've got the latch wrong.
How do you know newborn is getting enough colostrum if you can see it??

fedupofrainydays · 14/10/2014 03:06

I'm bloody knackered. Been feeding for 2 hours now and every time he falls asleep and as soon as I put him down he wakes up whinging. Going to be broken tomorrow.

Portico - I was thinking the same today re slide and excitedcj - hope they are ok.

I don't remember seeing much colustrum Munday. But def get the latch looked at and get the lansinoh out!

Feeding ALL day and every two hours at night. I call growth spurt! Envy

madamweasel · 14/10/2014 05:44

I don't miss my huge belly at all. Today I bent over and picked something up off the floor. Without an ooooof. That was exciting.
