Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Ugh the sweats. I'm like an eel over here Blush

Mrsthedog , don't worry! Mine slept almost constantly for a few days (apparently C section babies are more sleepy afterwards). I struggled to wake her for feeds despite stripping, feet tickling, other attempts to annoy her into drinking. Now, at 2 weeks, no such trouble. She won't stop feeding and is none the worse for her first few days!

fedupofrainydays · 12/10/2014 08:36

Sweats were terrible. I would soak the bed! I had to lie on a towel in the end and change the duvet.

Sex is not on the cards for a looooong time! My pelvic floor is dodgy. It's very low and feels like I've an air bubble in there. Mw said it's pelvic floor pressing down and need to do dxercises to lift it. It's had a hammering with third degree tear and now a second so just need to look after it (random talking about muscles down there like that!) so trying to do my exercises to lift it back up.

Mrsdog - ds slept for first few days and was very sicky. Very stressful. And I cried when he seemingly sicked up all my expressed colostrum which was painful and so slow to do! She will get there, just needs a day or so to wake up a bit.

How much sleep are people getting? I'm getting 2 hour stints. And last night it was 3 x 2 so 6 hours. I should feel great! But no, feel like I've been hit by a bus.
There have been nights of just 3 or 4 hours so guess it's just all the culmination of that.

Fed up she treats me to a 1x 3 hr stint, then 2x 1.5-2hr stints - so 6-7 hrs a night. Just in lots of little bits. This week will be the killer as I've my toddler all week so will have to get up with him (normally DH drops him at the CM 3 mornings so I can get some sleep). Confused

fatpony · 12/10/2014 09:00

Hi all, need to catch up on the thread which I can now legally join! Baby boy Murdo born Friday morning, 7lbs 3, by peaceful csection -we loved the theatre team. The anaesthetist was particularly great.
Didn't really feel too much pain while at hospital, home last night at 6pm and perhaps overdid it a bit (baby slept v minimally all night and wanted boob constantly) and wanted to see what pain relief you are on? I have paracetamol, ibuprofen and dihydrocodeine (except they forgot the last one so have to go back and get it today). I take last meds at 10pm and first at 8am so a long night time gap. Have you a all coped with the same regime? I hope I can as it is def v ouchy right now!

SweetPeaPods · 12/10/2014 09:09

Fat pony my hosp say you can't bf on codeine or ibuprofen. I've been given paracetamol and diclofenac both times. Would rather take ibuprofen tbh.

fatpony · 12/10/2014 09:15

Sweet-that's strange as the hosp know I am breastfeeding and this is their standard meds regime. Will check when DH goes to pick up the dihydrocodeine... Thanks

Marking my spot. Will I try to catch up and then post properly later. Hello fellow parents Grin

tak1ngchances · 12/10/2014 09:32

I am taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. Still in quite a lot of pain though so am popping back to the hosp this morning for a check-up and will discuss pain meds then.

They have me ibuprofen too and am bf.

yellow I've had that too - getting up with ds1 and getting him and us all ready for nursery has been hard work! I'm knackered by 9.15!

I was given paracetamol, ibuprofen and tramadol (my word that's good shit!!!) to take home after my CS (and a diclofenac ? suppository in theatre) all were considered fine to take when BF. Normally when BF I avoid ibuprofen as a rule but for serious and occasional pain its fine. I would avoid codeine meds personally as it can make babies dopey or sleep too heavily which has SIDS implications.

Fed up my CM is on holiday this week. Sob!

puppythedog · 12/10/2014 13:11

Really sorry that i am just posting without seeing what's going on with everyone. I just need to.

I took Matilda down to SCBU for a lumber puncture this morning. It was unsuccessful and they need to try again. They want to check for Meningitis because she is showing signs of an infection and the Antibiotic has not yet brought her CRP number down.
Our friend accidentally popped in I'd been managing not to sob but seeing her broke my bubble.
I'm just scared am struggling to hold my emotions in place.

I just want to take them home now.

Love to you all hope it is going okay and I will catch up later x

porcito · 12/10/2014 13:19

Oh, puppy sorry to hear that. Thinking of you all - it must be terrible to have the worry and not be able to just take them home. Matilda is in the best place if there is something wrong, as hard as it must be right now.

porcito · 12/10/2014 13:23

And don't feel like you have to keep your emotions in place-you've both just had a crazy, roller coaster 72 hours (not to mention the 9 months beforehand!) Even without such tests and worry, in this house we are were emotional messes for the first week.

SweetPeaPods · 12/10/2014 13:45

Puppy big hugs to you both. It's completely normal to be emotional anyway let alone going down to nicu too. My DH had a cry down there when they put a little tube down into Rs nose to his tummy. It's horrible to see but they are in good hands.

bumpbangbump · 12/10/2014 14:49

Much love to the dogs. Tilda will be well looked after, you're in the right place. X x x

fedupofrainydays · 12/10/2014 15:08

Sorry to hear that puppy
It's awful when they are in special care. I know my Husband was emotional about us having to stay there and just wanted us all home as a family. Tilda is in the right place though. Big hugs.

sweetpea what did you call your son? Did you go for Rory too?

Fed up no last minute change to Reuben Smile

hefner · 12/10/2014 15:44

Sorry to hear that puppy. I hope Abi and Tilda can come home soon. Don't worry about being emotional, it's completely understandable.

DS was a bit more settled last night so I felt quite energetic this morning, but 3 year old dd has been a complete nightmare, refusing to go on the potty and having an epic tantrum all morning. Today is the first day she hasn't had grandparents to fuss over her since DS arrived.

DS has brought up quite a bit of milk and seemed very uncomfortable this morning. I think he's struggling to adjust to my milk coming in. Since birth he's made a lot of gulping noises and pulled faces as if he is going to be sick but doesn't usually spit anything out. Is that normal or does it mean he's going to have reflux?

puppythedog · 12/10/2014 16:02

Thank you all for kindness. Feeling a bit more like myself now. Smile Most of the time I'm not worried and I feel really chuffed:-)

SweetPeaPods · 12/10/2014 16:04

Hefner ds has been more sick today too I was wondering same thing. He's definitely not been as settled today. Slept well last night though.

YellowWellies · 12/10/2014 16:11

Hefner that sounds like silent reflux - if baby gets unsettled, starts to have sour breath, refusing to be laid flat, you start to hear weird noises in their throat after a feed then head to the docs.

I'm really chuffed, 13 days of cutting out dairy and soy from my diet and Lilla's reflux is abating. Tilting the head of the bednest is also really helping. I have to remember that with Jonas it only really flared up 2 weeks after his due date. Must not count chickens!

Familydogs Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks it'll be OK in the end, they have to be cautious but my god you think you worry about them when you're pregnant... xxx

puppythedog · 12/10/2014 17:46

Today was the first time it was Matilda I worried about. Before I'd always worried about Mrsthedog's wellbeing including how she would be if we'd had misfortune at any point.

We're all feeling better and Matilda had a good feed this afternoon :-)
