It will heal. Just got to push through. My own fault, I'm sure it was a lazy night time feed thaaa did the damage. Don't think I'll be heading down the shield route just plenty on lansinoh!

She's slept all day! I'm going to be up all night again aren't I?!?

porcito · 10/10/2014 17:47

Same here. Vampire baby. I can't even sleep when baby's sleeping today as my parents are here. At least I have chocolate ...

I'm dreaming of baths of Lansinoh.

Captainmcgraw · 10/10/2014 19:04

Portico - I'm also in the chocolate is my saviour stage at the moment.

Have been a bit quiet and to be honest am struggling. After a week or so of having a fairly easy baby things are getting harder and harder. He's pretty much arching his back and screaming the entire time he's not asleep or feeding. Going for huge stretches fighting sleep and just wanting to feed constantly. However the feeds are just clearly only respite at the time as then he's screaming in pain afterwards. Being upright is helping but only position he's happy with is being held up under his arms and I can't maintain it for long.

I'm so scared about trying to look after two children solo when he's like this. Just want to cry at the moment. Yellow thanks for your reflux tips so far - I'm going to call health visitor Monday and see what they suggest. Only positive thing is he's sometimes taking a dummy which is temporarily settling him. Sorry for the whinge... Hope others are ok and coping with the exhaustion.

SweetPeaPods · 10/10/2014 19:59

Hi everyone !
Finally found the time to venture over. Ds2 was born Monday but we got home from hospital yesterday due to him getting a little infection. Horrible to see him in an incubator in nicu. My parents have had to go home today but my mum will be back next week. This weekend will be interesting!! It has been great having them here to help with ds1.
My nipples are agony. Got mw tomorrow for heel prick test so will mention it to her. Not sure if it's normal for them just adjusting or if we have poor latch. It's not an engorged type pain, just a sharp pain in nipples. I don't remember any pain with ds1 but I was dosed up in so many pain killers that I can't be sure. I'm almost getting to the point of not wanting to feed but I know I'll regret it if I give up now.
Hope everyone is well and babies are not getting too big too quickly.

porcito · 10/10/2014 20:03

Sorry you're having such a hard time captain . Don't have any wise advice but hope you get some respite soon. In the meantime, enjoy the chocolate!

Mine is just feeding ALL the time over the last few days. She's like a machine!

hefner · 10/10/2014 20:13

Hi everyone, can I join you? DS was born on Wednesday morning.

Sorry to hear you're having such a rubbish time Captain, hope the HV is helpful.

Hope everyone with sore nipples feels better soon. I'm in the same boat, cracked and bleeding and starting to dread feeds, especially at night when he's really unsettled and wants to feed all the time. I've noticed a bit of a tongue tie and asked for a referral to get it snipped so I'm hoping that'll help. At least he seems to be getting enough milk, we'll see when he gets weighed tomorrow. I'm a bit paranoid as dd couldn't latch on and we had a nightmare with expressing and constant weigh ins, so I'm really hoping his weight is OK tomorrow.

YellowWellies · 10/10/2014 21:07

Captain try cutting down on dairy (and chocolate, sorry Sad ) as they are both reflux triggers. A guilt free fix is Betty Crocker's Devils food cake chocolate mix - dairy free! I've eaten one third of a cake today.

Captainmcgraw · 10/10/2014 21:26

Thanks Yellow - I've cut down but think will cut it out completely from tomorrow. Have only been having dark chocolate 70%+ cocoa solids. It says it has traces of milk - do you think that's too much? Clearly I will give all choc up if it's necessary it's just my main treat at the moment!

YellowWellies · 10/10/2014 22:31

I'm keeping dairy traces in my diet at present as that's meant to help them get over it quickest but if Lilla really reacts badly I'll cut totally as I did with J. He would react to stuff even made in a factory that handles dairy but he was vair extreme.

porcito · 10/10/2014 23:05

I found some of the advice on this site useful for those of you with hideous chewed up nipples like mine kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplehealing/ Sorry I can't add the link itself - am on the phone

hefner · 11/10/2014 16:35

Thanks for the link porcito, that looks really helpful. My milk is coming in today so that plus the sore nipples means I'm dreading feeding. DS has been asleep for ages so my nipples have had a break today, but he'll be sucking extra hard when he does wake up.

The midwife came to weigh him today and he's only lost 5%, woo hoo! I'm so relieved as feeding him enough is my biggest concern after a bad experience with dd. My MIL has been visiting every day and she's been incredibly helpful, but she's flying home this evening. Tomorrow will be our first day with no help, I'm a bit scared how we're going to cope with a baby and a preschooler all day!

SweetPeaPods · 11/10/2014 19:01

Hefner today was our first day without help. Not helped by the fact ds1 had a really bad night so DH was up with him most the night. It was easier than I thought, but we were out the house for most the day at my nieces birthday party. Hopefully that has tired them both out so they sleep loads tonight !!

Bump once j was over the jaundice and had regained his birth weight we just stopped top ups cold turkey. With Lilla I just stopped cold turkey on day three once her tongue tie was cut. Your boobs will catch up to meet the demand pretty much straight away. You might find the first day without top ups baby is fussier but that's because fussing at the breast is how babies encourage more milk to be produced. Its not a sign that your boobs aren't able to meet demand.

porcito · 11/10/2014 20:12

We just stopped cold turkey - not sure if that was the right thing to do but it worked for us. We cut down to one topup at night and then nothing the next day. She does feed for slightly longer on the breast now but it doesn't make much difference when she's already there for an hour!

Today my mum asked if I would be able to go horse riding. Grin Ha. It still takes me 10 mins to get off a sofa.

fedupofrainydays · 11/10/2014 21:51

I didn't need top ups with ds1 but ds2 did as wouldn't latch and then had jaundice. I think we went cold turkey on day 2 or 3 when he started to feed ok.
Agree with yeklow day 1 and 2 of no top ups you may worry about a lack of supply and baby will feed a lot. But that's all to get your supply up - your boobs will respond! They are clever like that Wink

Horse riding?!?! I actually winced at the thought! Ouch. Rising trot and stitches just do not go!

My DH asked if I wanted sex today. Confused

Horse riding and my current pelvic floor = bad combination (damp horse) Grin

Mrsthedog · 12/10/2014 04:15

Finally got Tilda to latch on and breast feed properly after help from
Midwife in the post caesarian ward I'm in . Managed to do the lying down position even though my staples hurt to buggery. Really happy that finally she had something decenf after the dribbles of colostrum I was harvesting greedily in syringes. So far, so happy!

Tilda woke up at three and I tried the other breast. Try as we did, she just kept on falling asleep at the wheel, even though she knew what she was doing. Tried valiantly for an hour - Tilda putting in some stirling work including latching on while I dozed off for a millisecond. Gave us a break. Regrouped. Woke her up. Got motivated. Had another go. No luck - in the end I was as snoozy as she was. Gave her the saved expressed colostrum as she had done well. Put her back in the cot. Then she puked up everything she had taken in that evening. Put her on my shoulder and puked the rest into my hair and shoulders. Epic fail.

Alas. Hmm

SweetPeaPods · 12/10/2014 05:05

Horse riding?!
Sex?!
Ouch ouch ouch!!
I actually feel more tender down there today that I did on Monday. Must be stitches healing.
Mrsthedog it's not failing. Bf takes time. Both dc weren't really interested at first, and you bring induced probably doesn't help. Just take each day as it comes, and get as much support as you can before you leave hospital.

YellowWellies · 12/10/2014 05:19

Mrsthedog sounds like great first BF efforts to me! After a section she'll be more pukey - Lilla certainly was for a couple of days - as they need to get the mucus out which would have been squeezed out in the birth canal. Also baby puke often looks much greater than it was - I'm sure some of your valiant efforts stayed in Smile Baby's guts and wind is such a blimmin design flaw! How are you feeling? You must be exhausted.

SweetPeaPods · 12/10/2014 05:32

Anyone else freezing one minute, hot flush the next ?!
Must be hormones settling down but I've gone from spending past 6 months or so constantly hot that I forgot what it feels like to be cold and I don't like it

YellowWellies · 12/10/2014 05:35

I hate the post birth night sweats! They make me realise menopause is going to be shit! Confused
