(Only thought scarlet fever cos Minimopsy had a play date last week and her friend came down with scarlet fever the following day ...)

JustSeven · 30/03/2015 17:25

mopsy hope he's ok, has it gone down again?

Definitely not a banking cock up northern, unless you class it as a cock up it wasn't flagged up as out of character my mum spent £4600 in 90 minutes, paying capital one and barclaycard bills in someone else's name! DS was really struggling a few weeks ago but seems to be ok again now. He's looking forward to his downstairs bedroom. He still has aggressive phases due to the steroids but it's more predictable and I've learnt to handle it a bit better (most days anyway!)

Aethelfleda · 30/03/2015 19:37

Mopsy, lymph glands are often up for a week or two with viral infections. Agree the scarlet fever is about all over the country at the mo: fortunately most littlies aren't sick with it and it's fairly straightforward managemenf if it's suspected, hope it's all ok , and GP if not.

Well, day 5 and still the pukes. Have given DS a lactose-free milk cup trial and it bounced after 5 minutesConfused so I think we'll be trying total dairy free the next few days and see if things improve...sigh....

mopsytop · 30/03/2015 20:16

Aethel if he is fine in himself, no temp, eating and sleeping normally and happy as Larry during the day (loads of smiles), no need to see the GP again, right, in spite of rash/lymph nodes?

NorthernChinchilla · 30/03/2015 20:32

That's appalling seven, the bank should have stopped those payments Shock ! I do hope it won't quibble about paying your parents back.
Glad DS is in a better phase; the up and down nature of these conditions is so difficult to manage. Has the work started on his new bedroom yet?

Can't believe DS is still puking aethel, wonder what on earth is doing that? Is the dairy thing because you suspect a sudden intolerance?

Hope MiniM is OK mopsy, must be a worry....

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 30/03/2015 21:06

Sorry, Mopsyboy, not MiniM- is there lots of Scarlet fever round you? We're meant to be a hot spot, but haven't encountered it yet....

OP posts:
mopsytop · 31/03/2015 09:10

I think so Northern. It is usually really rare but there is apparently lots of it around this year. Hope you're doing ok.

Aethelfleda · 31/03/2015 18:29

Yeah northern, it's not uncommon for little ones to get something called "transient dairy intolerance" after D&V. I hope it's that anyway as I am SO tired of cleaning puke off stuff! Today he's been dairy free and had 2 upchucks which is a lot better... Will keep it up for a few days and see what happens...

Mopsy, if he's completely well then it's what the rash/tongue/throat look like that will say if its scarlet fever or not. Kids can look quite ok with it sometimes, but every GP has been shown the rash or pictures of it, if you google it you'll see pics of a kind of sandpapery rash with a red blotchy "strawberry tongue" in some. Thing is pretty much any virus will make kiddys lymph nodes go up. So if you're worried get her looked at but if the rash isnt typical it's unlikely.

mopsytop · 01/04/2015 08:54

Aethel, GP thought rash more likely to be excema but wasn't entirely sure as it looks fairly like scarlet fever rash. Tongue normal as far as I can tell. So I'm guessing is just excema, E&P as he is happy and content and no temp. What happens if your baby has a mild go of it and you do nothing?

NorthernChinchilla · 01/04/2015 09:35

Well you learn something new every day! Fascinating....but more importantly, how is DS doing aethel? From the sounds of it it's tailing off, I hope?

Stuck in a sort of limbo here....was planning to return to work or at least work from home...the senior boss called and said she didn't expect to see me until after the Easter weekend. And I don't actually know how I feel or what I want to do. Don't know if I can manage work or if I'll just be setting myself up for a fall if I do return now.....aaaargh!

Maybe some retail therapy Northern? A new plant?

NorthernChinchilla · 01/04/2015 12:33

mopsy you know me too well... Have gone mad and splashed out £7 on more perennials for the border from Wilkos. Ordered the hedging for the front yesterday following a refund from RHS on some dwarf agapanthus....

Figster · 01/04/2015 14:03

Ds still full of cold so his first day at nursery hasn't happened Hmm I've kept him off and working from home I'm also ill as a dog but too busy to take day off so he's having a back to back filmathon poor parent alert!!!

mopsytop · 01/04/2015 15:21

On sick days, anything goes Figgy. Just making it through the day in one piece is an achievement!

Aethelfleda · 01/04/2015 17:02

Yep figgy, just roll with it!
I've had to cancel work as nursery v clear it needs the full 48 hours (fair enough): I think no-dairy is the way to go as he's been (whisper) ok since the 8am throw this morning. Thank God for large tescos and the manufacturers of vegan cheese-a-like as he's really hungry and we are having vegan(ish) pizza tonight! The garlic bread has a soupcon of skimmed milk powder but I'm hoping we'll get away with that... At least he seems fine with soya milk.

Mopsy, untreated scarlet fever has a small risk of various hair-raising complications, though that's historical mostly, it's not clear exactly how real the risk of problems are nowadays as most cases are so much more minor, and any kiddies who are really sick with it tend to get recognised and treated. So the stats are fuzzy. Treatment needs ten days penicillin 4 x daily (or an equivalent) so it's not trivial esp as the sugar free ones taste revolting.... Usually the kids with it have a reet dodgy throat as well as the rash, so it's very much a judgement call from the dr that sees them.
So many things to do.... northern, distract yourself with further retail therapy and go back after Easter!

Our Easter purchase of note has been three Chill Factor Slushy makers (DS's is a diff brand cos it came in Yellow and Yellow id hid Faborite Color). They are on sale in argos (11.50 each!) and slushify fruit juice/squash: nice alternative to lollies, we thought... Seem to work well so far and quite fun!

mopsytop · 01/04/2015 18:11

You've freaked me out a bit aethel. Might go to GP tomo just to make sure he's ok. The rash is still not great but he's fine in himself but just in case... I don't really like going in case they think I'm the over anxious type but who cares really. Better safe than sorry.

NorthernChinchilla · 01/04/2015 19:02

Bummer that he couldn't start figgy, especially you've done the settling in days and must've been ready to go. And enjoy the flop on the sofa, films and grazing food is the way to go!

If mopsyboy isn't right and you feel worried mopsy then see the GP; best to err on the safe side with babies.

And a sod about your work too aethel, but yay for non-puking and good luck with vegan-ish pizza. Take it you've got the normal sort, as eating vegan cheese is taking motherly love too far imho Wink !

Our exciting Easter news is we bought a new hoover. Woooooo.
Was feeling a bit low this morning; was just going through all the horrors that we've had over the past fortnight on top of the actual loss, plus it should have been the 'proper' scan today. Went for a long walk then crashed asleep for two hours, then hit the garden so feeling better.

Have also cracked open the folic acid and multi vits as I want to start ttc as soon as possible Smile

Aethelfleda · 01/04/2015 19:53

Mopsy, try not to worry, I can't possibly tell 100% over the internet, lots of rashes can mimic other ones and if the dr thought it was ok then it prob is fine. The point is it's usually the grotty ones that have issues afterwards, pre antibiotic age it was a far nastier disease cos nowadays the dodgiest versions get spotted, treated and so don't pass on. Do ring the doc if you're worried but try not to fret, glad mopsyboy seems well anyway...

mopsytop · 01/04/2015 20:30

Thanks aethel. Will try get appointment tomo just in case though. Hope your wee one stops vomming now! Poor you. The puke wars Hmm

Aethelfleda · 01/04/2015 23:17

yeah, I am SO over clearing up vomit!

We have now had 15 puke free hours. so will hopefully be a waiting game - I have stocks of soya various things (who knew they made soya creme caramel!!) and he loved the cheeze-a-like pizza.

big hugs northern, you're doing the best you can. gardening is seriously good therapy. DH rolls his eyes whenever I buy/plant more things but it's so satisfying...

mopsytop · 02/04/2015 08:37

I think you're vomming bug came over here aethel! Minimopsy vomiting all night all over bed :(
Supposed to be going to Irl tomo on the early boat ... Not so sure now.
Bringing Mopsyboy to GP at ten to check is not scarlatina... Will let you know!

mopsytop · 02/04/2015 11:43

Well it isn't scarlet fever phew! It is very bad excema though HmmHmm GP has doubled the dose of steroids. Poor Mopsyboy

NorthernChinchilla · 02/04/2015 12:21

Oooh, nasty, poor mopsyboy. And poor MiniM as well, what a combination to have for Easter.

Glad to hear that DS seems to have taken a turn for the better aethel, that's a relief, and I will store the 'transient milk allergy' thingy for future reference. I also plan to visit a garden centre when I'm up North (we're off tonight), so hopefully I'll get my dwarf agapanthus and also consider what to replace the large- and now dead- fuchsia in the border...!

mopsytop · 02/04/2015 14:59

I wish you'd come and do my garden Northern. Every plant that comes my way ends up withered :(

Figster · 02/04/2015 15:21

I have conjunctivitis SadSadSad between the ds stress, AF, my mum visiting then being away without dh for 5 days no ttc this month Angry

Poor mopsy boy hope he better soon!! In fact I hope everyone is
