Even though dc3 is end of August, thought I'd start a sept thread :-)

How are you all doing?

dS1 is 9 dats old. Feeding well and surely sleeping well but it's hard to know as I keep falling asleep at night feeding him!

Re: Dressing Newborn

The extent of dressing for the day I do is white sleepsuits for bed then change into coloured sleepsuits for daytime. I will spend the majority of the first 3 months just using sleepsuits. Dressing up can come when a little bigger.

I love sleepsuits, to me the sleepsuit defines babyhood. I have used pristine white sleepsuits for bedtime for as long as possible with all my children. 2-3years is the biggest size. I mourn the loss of the baby years as soon as white sleepsuits have to give way to proper PJs.

Re: Sterilising

Honeybear. You sterilise something immediately before using it. Or you keep it sterilised until you use it. For example all I am sterilising now is my breastpump (because I'm bf like you). So after I've rinsed it, I put it in the microwave steriliser and sterilise it. Then if you keep the steriliser sealed, the contents stay sterilised for 24 hours. If I don't use the breastpump in that time then it would need to be re-sterilised before use.

DS has night sleep suits and day sleep suits. He lives in those most of the time. If I know we are going out or have visitors that's when the nice stuff comes out. Or when I'm taking photos. I have lots of photos... if only to make sure the stuff he has been given as gifts and won't get a huge amount of use out of, has added value for length of use. (I count photos for posterity as use as well as actual physical use!)

I have dungarees and the like for day time - now we are having (touch wood) less leaky nappies I love putting him in little outfits :-)

Honeybear30 · 20/10/2014 15:25

Thanks September. Thought I was getting in a muddle somewhere, now know I need to sterilise as and when. What a pain! But sensible :)

cookielove · 20/10/2014 17:52

Ds gets a mix of outfits and sleepsuits, he looks cute in everything.

honey for your cold water steriliser make up enough bottles to last you 24hrs, make sure you start the cycle sometime during the day so you don't have to faff with changing the water during the night or in the wee hours of the morning. When you need a bottle just shake off the extra water and use. For the steam steriliser what we do is make up 4 - 5 bottles at a time depending on what you can squeeze in, then once the cycle has finished put all the bits together and then store them in the cupboard or on the side. Or pop them in the bag if we are heading out.

cookielove · 20/10/2014 17:53

Forgot to say ds had his 8 week injections at 9 weeks 5 days and oh how sad he was!

TeamEponine · 20/10/2014 19:35

DD has her hip scan tomorrow. I'm quite nervous about it. Has anyone else had to have this done for their little one? I'm really not sure what to expect at the appointment. Really hoping everything will be fine and that she doesn't have to wear a brace/harness. My gut instinct is that she will though.

Not had a fun day. Since 2.30am she's been really unsettled. I've been feeding almost constantly and only managed to get her to sleep briefly on me before she gets upset again. Not sure what's going on, but it is quite draining and it breaks my heart to see her upset like this Sad

Honeybear30 · 20/10/2014 20:47

Thanks for the sterilisation advice cookie :) I'm dreading injections! I know DS will cry and break my heart.

eponine sounds like you've had a rough day, I hope tomorrow goes well for you. What makes you think she needs a brace? Sorry if I've missed it up thread...

I have been doing a vague routine for nearly a week now and I think it works because the one night we missed it and went out DS wouldn't settle until 2.30am. What time are people putting their babies to bed? I start the routine whenever he wakes for a feed anywhere between 7 and 9. It takes about 1.5-2 hours to hen get him to sleep. Im just trying to think how this is going to work in the long run. DH gets home at 7 when I normally have dinner on the table. But really I suppose DS should be in bed by 7 when he's a bit bigger, so I don't know how I will do his routine and cook for us unless we have dinner really late. What does every else do/plan on doing?

Nazly · 20/10/2014 21:14

Team we had a hip scan
It is really simple and straight forward, nothing to worry you one bit even
You take the clothes off waist down - nappy could stay
They put her on her side, put a bit of jelly on her hip and scan, just like your pregnancy scans ; then rotate her and scan the other side ; no pain, no nothing;

Ours came back with good results ; but even if it doesn't, think of it this way, it is really much better to get it fixed now before they walk and go to nursery/school...

I do bath at about 6'6.30 then feed in our room and into moses basket. Daddy then does story. Monitor on and I do dinner. Then feed 9ish and cuddles and I go to bed as well. Then wake up as needed at night.

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 20/10/2014 22:31

We won't have a 'routine' for another few months yet. Just feed on demand and dd stays with us, comes to bed with me etc.
With dd1, we found it hard to get a routine going as she was with us for the forst 6 months so it's not like we could put her to bed. I've always found bath at bedtime hypes mine up so we do that in a morning when I've got the time and energy to clean up after and just put baby in pjs and settle on the sofa for cuddle in the evenings.

cookielove · 21/10/2014 02:33

Ds has a bit of a routine but not much however it works for us :)

He has a fever!

Nazly · 21/10/2014 03:29

Oh no cookie - hope he gets better soon x

I love that nazly :)

Marjal12 · 21/10/2014 05:28

Another long baby here! I've found Sainsbury's sleep suits are a bit longer and narrower. Also, romper suits and socks work very well. (Though you may need to invest in some sock-ons, which are genius)
We also just stick mainly with sleep suits at this age. Judging by my boxes of DD1's stuff in the loft, it's around 3-6 months before the proper clothes started filtering in! Sleep suits so cute though - the original onesie!

TeamEponine · 21/10/2014 07:53

Two nights in a row of being up with little one since 3am. I feel like a zombie. And today is a busy day, so no chance of catching up on some sleep. Couldn't yesterday either. I really hope she goes back to sleeping okay tonight. Not sure I can cope with three nights in a row Sad

misog2000 · 21/10/2014 08:14

We've had a couple of bad nights too team Sad, I'm hoping it is just a growth spurt and will go back to normal soon as I'm shattered. Fortunately Em is my pfb so I can nap in the day and try and catch up but she is constantly hungry so I only get a couple of hours even during the day.

Hope you get some sleep tonight

cookielove · 21/10/2014 08:29

Awwww I love him so much

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 21/10/2014 08:55

Cookie how is his fever?

What is this weather?! Don't feel like going out at all today.
Dd2 was up at 5 for a feed, messed until nearly 6 then dd1 and dh got up for the day which means they both came in and pestered me until I woke up again grrr

Allisgood1 · 21/10/2014 09:12

Cookie please take you ds to the dr. A fever in a baby under three months is not normal and needs investigating. I say this because when dd was the same age she had a fever and I was instructed to take her to a&e. I felt I was being over cautious but it turned out she had pneumoniaHmm I dread to think what might have happened had I not had her checked out thoroughly.

ilovemonstersinc · 21/10/2014 10:12

Cookie how is baby today?
Allis is right. Needs investigating. Ds had fever at around 5-6weeks turned out he had meningitis and sepetcmia. Really scares me when I think about it and how dangerous it was and when it's in the papers it brings it all back.

Does he have any other symptoms? Crying more? Grunting? Spots/rash? Coughing? Not drinking same as normal?

Bronchiolitis will also be making its way round again Hmm I absolutely fucking hate bronchiolitis. I absolutely fucking hate winter too.

cookielove · 21/10/2014 11:19

Oh sorry to worry you, he had his injections yesterday which is why he had a temp! He is better today temp wise! But still unsettled!
