Even though dc3 is end of August, thought I'd start a sept thread :-)

How are you all doing?

dS1 is 9 dats old. Feeding well and surely sleeping well but it's hard to know as I keep falling asleep at night feeding him!

Quite!! It's late...

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 19/10/2014 00:05

I've tried the bag on her tonight honey and it's huge on her!? Her head just slips through and I don't feel it's safe at all.

Acorncat · 19/10/2014 01:05

Mine is now about 13lb and he's been in 0-3m since he was 4 weeks old (now 6w). I've just started using size 3 nappies, used size 2 for about a week. They fit fine round the waist but are a little long.

misog2000 · 19/10/2014 01:52

Ems 0-1 month and newborn clothes are too short in the leg now but are still huge around her, she was 7lb 6 last time she was weighed but I'm 5'10" and DH is 6'1" so she was always going to be long. I've used size 2 nappies since she was born, I just do them up tight Blush

cookielove · 19/10/2014 03:01

Ds was un micro nappies at birth!

show, I have 5 bags all with varying neck sizes maybe try a different make. I got 2 of mine off ebay!

Ds is in up to 1 month and 0-3 depending on the outfit, size 1 pampers size 2 supermarket brand. He was 9lb 15 oz almost 2 weeks ago hasn't been weighed for a while.

CoolCat2014 · 19/10/2014 03:02

Dd is I'm size 0-3, but too big for one brand already, and everything is huge round the middle on her. She's 4 weeks and was 10lb 7oz when last weighed. She's a very long baby - not surprising as I'm 5'10 and DH is 6'3! Also in size 2 nappies, but they are starting to look small on her!

Honeybear30 · 19/10/2014 06:45

Sounds like it varies for everyone! I would second the different brands of sleep bag, I hadn't thought of that. I have a kiddicare one which is huge, but I've been using BHS which have been fine :)

CoolCat2014 · 19/10/2014 07:39

We have a mamas and papas sleeping bag which is way too big for her, and a sleepsac which fits nicely... We've just not been able to use the yet as she didn't like them the nights we tried, so still using blankets which she kicks off! Will try again when the weather gets cooler

KatharineClover · 19/10/2014 07:50

I had to move Danny (5 weeks today) into 3-6 month clothes yesterday! He was in 0-3 month at birth as he was 9.15 lb, he is really long with big feet and 0-3 were too snug on the feet and in the length on his legs & body. 3-6 are a little big, but better that than constricting, I think.
Sizes vary with different brands so changing sizes is always a process of trial & error as to what is too small / just right / huge. Supermarket sizes seem more generous.

lilone1234 · 19/10/2014 09:05

It's amazing how much it varies in babies of the same age let alone for the 3 months that clothes are marketed to fit for! I have wondered about baby clothes sizing as seems to me there is a lot of size difference in a 0 month old to a 3 month old!

At nearly 5 weeks Molly is in all 0-3 month clothes which she is already filling quite well at around 9lbs. She is quite long though, particularly her legs and her feet are already completely fitting them - no way they will last til 3 months! Around the body and the arms though there is still growing room. I've found m&s and John Lewis ones to be a bit bigger and lengthier but anyone of any places where they seem to be a bit lengthier than normal?

Molly's in size 1 pampers and they still seem to fit quite well but I think it will be time to try size 2 soon. Still got a couple of size 1 packs I want to use first!

With sleeping bags - because they are 0-6 even bigger range in sizes. I have gro bags which look pretty big and haven't tried on her yet and a Bebe bonito one from tk maxx which is much smaller and she is able to use now, so that could be worth a look if your sleeping bags don't fit yet! They all have the same advised start weight of 8lb 8 though.

KitKat1985 · 19/10/2014 09:06

With Jessica I've noticed a huge variation in how different shops size their clothes, although she is generally now in 0-3 at the moment (she's 5 and a half weeks). She seems to be growing rapidly though, so not sure the 0-3 month clothes are going to last until she's 3 months old. x

velvetlilithi · 19/10/2014 10:25

Well there're two sizes of newborn clothes, either in length /50 or 56cm/ or weight /up to 3.4 or 4.5kg. My ds is still in newborn clothes size 56cm or up to 4.5kg at 4 weeks. I can see it wont last longer than couple of days. From birth we had problem with sleepsuits as he has a looong feet and he didnt fit in some. We use couple of 0-3 sleepsuits already as when I compared them to others of newborn size, they are longer only 1cm or so. Some other brands sleepsuits are absolutely huuge and more similar to the 3-6 size. When I chose clothes for ds now, I dont care about label but how big it is when I look at it as I know how big is my baby. Vests he can wear even early baby size Grin ,but only when we use disposable nappies on him.. These he has still newborn size and there is lot of space for him. Normally we use reusable nappies and with them on, he needs bigger size of vests and sometimes sleepsuits and trousers as he has a bigger bum in them, like a bumblebee... Grin

SeptemberBabies · 19/10/2014 11:44

Hi ShowMe

As Honeybear says, ignoring the size on the label and going with what physically fits is the way to go. This will carry on right through childhood. My 5 year old has some things in his wardrobe for 7-8 year olds, because they have shrunk in the wash when his older brother had them.

DD is 3 weeks and 10lb 8oz but her legs are too long for the 0-3 sleepsuits I have so am thinking about digging out some 3-6 month sleepsuits from the loft. That said, the clothes she is in are hand-me-downs so have been washed a lot of times. So I assume they've shrunk. Having said that though, even new ones are short on leg length for her, so maybe she will be tall?

I've put all my children in sleeping bags from the outset, right from newborn. As mentioned above, her arms will stop her from moving down in the bag. Personally, I'm also swaddling over the sleeping bag, so that makes it even less likely for her to be able to move down because her movement when asleep is impeded.

Nazly · 19/10/2014 12:46

To be honest I think age sizes are totally pointless - there are as many sizes babies as they are adults in the same age group! I like Europe/US system more as they put length on the label. They also measure babies' length frequently. I think length is much more important than weight when choosing clothes - if they don't fit length wise then that's it...
DS is 9 weeks and we have to move to 3-6m soon - the gifts we got from Europe have 2-4 months size which is much better I think than 0-3, etc...

Mine only wears sleepsuits - makes life much easier!

misog2000 · 19/10/2014 17:02

Emily only wears sleep suits too, she hates being dressed and undressed so faffing around with outfits, tights etc would just upset her.

It is so warm in our house that she spends a lot of time just wearing a long sleeved vest and a pair of socks even at night. We haven't even turned our heating on yet and our bedroom is 24 degrees even with the window open!

RedToothBrush · 19/10/2014 17:25

Ella, its complicated to dress your little girl, because you make it! If I want to do that with DS I can do and freely admit to dressing him up. He has a good wardrobe thanks to friends! We bought him a lovely shirt and trousers yesterday as they match something my Dad has and DH is desperate to get an outfit to match him. Oh and he wants a suit for him.

At the end of the day no one will really give a toss if you aren't dressing your child in matching hat apart from you. Chances are no one will even notice.

Spot the person on this thread and only having one child and refuses to miss out on this dressing up stuff because she has a son

Ella - yes I find it a lot of work to get is both ready and dressed and out the door, and I was finding it really hard to dress her until we got some assorted leggings. We got given so many things by so many people, it's been a challenge figuring out what she would fit when and what goes with what. We have loads of lovely things she was too big for straight away and several things she's only worn once or twice... Though I do tend to keep her in babygros at home.

Just measured her length, if I did it right she's over the 99.6th centile for her age! Shock midwives were shocked at how long she was at birth! No wonder she's growing out of a lot of 0-3 stuff already.

holls2000 · 19/10/2014 20:46

Oh god yes I think it's a miracle if we are both up and dressed by lunch! I too have lots of outfits, DH thinks I am bonkers and we should just keep him in babygros but he is growing so fast if we don't use outfits now they will be handed on cos he will be out of them!

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 19/10/2014 21:46

It's a military operation leaving this house! Having to wash, dress and organise 3 females (me and 2 dd's) takes some time! Dd1 is still young enough that I can dress her and have pretty much full control I've what she wears so no arguments yet. Dd2 mainly wears sleepsuits ("mummy the baby is in pjyamas again!" Says dd1 daily ShockGrin) but I kept most of dd1's clothes so have a lot to get through!
It's especially hard as dd2 will decide she needs feeding just as I want to get washed and dressed.

velvetlilithi · 19/10/2014 21:53

My little one is all day in sleepsuits, when we go out we're ready within half an hour including dressing myself, unfolding pram, packing changing back, changing nappy and dressing ds. Depending on weather, but only add layers on the sleepsuit he just wears. As we usually have to change his clothes at least once a day when nappy leaks or he lets some milk out his mouth or comits a little, I don't find it necessary to change him again when going out. As long as he's warm and comfy, I don't care if his clothes match.

Honeybear30 · 19/10/2014 22:24

I'm also a sleepsuit fan! Much easier plus I just think they are really cute.

Can I ask a stupid question about sterilising? I've been breastfeeding so haven't really had to sterilise yet. I've got some cold water tablets and also a microwave steam steriliser. Do you sterilise as you need things? The cold water lasts 24 hours but when I take the stuff out I don't know what to do with it. I don't want to dry with a tea towel because surely that undoes the sterilisation? And can I put sterile bottles in a cupboard? Or do I have to sterilise each one just before I want it? I'm so confused and feel incredibly stupid! I'm sure one of you lovely ladies can explain this for me, no doubt it is very straightforward.

ilovemonstersinc · 20/10/2014 08:38

I personally dont put baby in sleepsuits during the day. To me its like they are still in their pjs all day which I dont like.
I love dressing my boys up. Would love to dress a girl too. We still want more but not yet.

The eldest2 have a lot of clothes that match. Ds3 is mainly in rompers and has afew cchinos and jeans etc plus some lovely smart shirts. These clothes are made especially for babies so im happy ti put them on. Ds3 is now 13lb and needs 3-6 months clothes I got some really nice sleep suits from primark and I dont normally get the kids stuff from there as I never like anything. .
ive been to gp for the coil theh eill put it in while im on next period
