Here goes...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have found Sainsbury's Orange flavour Ibruprofen easier to get in than Nurofen/Calpol. Benefit of Ibuprofen is that the dosage is less mg, so easier to get it all in.

Barely functioning here today. Finally got to sleep at 2am after M kept waking to feed (comfort, teething for sure), M woke twice then up for the day at 5.30am. Luckily DH relieved me for an hour at 7.30am before he went to work and gave the kids their breakfast Confused

FelixFelix · 15/08/2014 10:18

I have a medicine dummy after someone recommended it here. It's great because she will still keep sucking the dummy even though she doesn't like the calpol Grin slightly mean but it works.

We had a much better night last night. Woke up at 11, 3 and 5. She woke up again at 7ish but DP was up for work so put her dummy back in and she went to sleep until 8.45. Loads better than every 40 minutes the night before!

BookTart · 15/08/2014 10:25

Glad you got some sleep felix

Thanks for all the tips! She liked ranitidine puggle, the little weirdo. She's on Omeprazole now which is much more of a faff but at least only once a day. I think the sachets sound good, and if they don't work then suppositories I guess

alteredimages · 15/08/2014 18:47

Wow! I didn't realise paracetamol suppositories are so expensive! Here they are 15p for 5 Blush, but aren't as strong as the French ones. You can get them over the counter there for about 3 euros a pack. N is fine with them but DD has decided she doesn't like "bum medicine".

N's been really clingy too. I long for a whole day with no one climbing on me or pulling my clothes and hair. I am back at MIL's because I had an allergic reaction to dust and laundry powder and my hands got so raw I couldn't change N's nappy or cook. On the mend now but it wasn't fun.

2 weeks until DD starts school and we haven't had a holiday or even been swimming. Angry Also have a big list of things to buy which seem to be unavailable in the shops and DD still is going on about her old school and how she doesn't want a new one. She also thinks all her old friends will be there, so wish me luck on September 3rd!

What size nappies are you all using? M is feeding so much in the night that she's soaking wet. I've had to change her nappy/pj bottoms/sleeping bag/sheet twice in the night and she's now in with us because I've run out of bedding.

We've always used reusables at night with no problems, but I'm wondering if disposables might be better at night until she stops pissing like a racehorse feeding so much.

What brand should I get? Anyone recommend one which will last the night?

TobyLerone · 16/08/2014 06:48

Could I say 'night' a few more times?

AMillionNameChangesLater · 16/08/2014 08:01

I use pampers active fit, size 3. Henry wriggles loads and we've never had any leaks.

He's just gone into size thee, so we'll be there for a while I think

AnotherStitchInTime · 16/08/2014 08:51

Sixe 4 nappies (sorry for spelling that key is broken on my keyboard). I buy Tescos ultra-dry. M generally lasts the night in them unless he is feeding hourly, then he will need a change once not because it leaks, but for comfort.

beccajoh · 16/08/2014 09:05

We have Aldi nappies size 3 for day time and Pampers Baby dry size 3+ for overnight. However, my toddler was accidentally put to bed in an Aldi nappy last night and it coped fine (she's a really heavy wetter overnight!) so we might not bother with the pampers any more once we've used them all up. We used to be a die hard Pampers family until we tried the Aldi nappies, because they were the only ones that didn't cause awful nappy rash. Miss Toddler would wet through reusables in an hour (where does all the wee come from?!) so we have up on them fairly quickly!

Angelesque · 16/08/2014 09:06

We're on size 4 Pampers Baby Dry at night. No leakage (of wee) ever - although the nappy change first thing in the morning is usually bulging like mad!

BookTart · 16/08/2014 09:23

P has been weeing through size 3 Baby Dry for a couple of weeks, so I'm trying size 4 overnight and osfa reusables in the day to see how that goes. I'm bored with 3am nappy changes/sleeping bag changes. Last week she did a wee so epic in size that I had to strip and change the baby, a double bed, and myself. Funfunfun. At least it was the PIL's bed though Smile

Naturegirl82 · 16/08/2014 10:47

toby we use popins reuseables with the nighttime booster. Can highly recommend them, never had any leaks. I know loads of people who use these overnight. Would trying a different brand of reuseable be worth a try?

O had porridge this morning for the first time and guzzled it down! Smile

TobyLerone · 16/08/2014 10:58

I've tried 3 types of reusable and none of them can hold back the pissnami. They're all fine in the day. It's temporary until she stops feeding 5 times a night. I'm hoping that if she's drier at night maybe she'll stop waking up and therefore stop feeding, therefore be drier at night. Like an excellently un-vicious circle.

alteredimages · 16/08/2014 12:52

Toby try terry flats. Seriously. I use LL pockets, bumbles and terry squares and the terry squares are so easy and absorbent. Several months and numerous poonamis later I still haven't had a leak. I leave N for 12 hours at night and with the motherease airflow wraps I have never had any trouble. Sometimes I add a booster between the nappy and the wrap but you don't necessarily need to. They are bulkier than pockets but much less bulky than the bumbles, which are pointless.

Folding the nappies is a hundred times easier than stuffing pocket nappies and nappi nippas are simple too. The nappy lady sells 60cm squares dor 2.20 apiece though I would recommend gettig 70cm squares if you can find them.

alteredimages · 16/08/2014 12:54

I forgot to say I am back to using pampers temporarily as MIL is doing nappy changes until my hands heal and we have had 3 leaks in less than a week, plus I always feel lile N smells of piss and chemicals. Confused

alteredimages · 16/08/2014 12:55

To clarify, by poonami I meant a massive poo that lwaked outside the nappy but was contained by the wrap.

TobyLerone · 16/08/2014 15:21

I might if the Pampers don't work for us, altered. I actually need some larger wraps as I have a couple of size 2 shaped nappies. I've ordered 2 off eBay which turned out not to be the correct size (incorrectly described, not my error) and I'm reluctant to spend any more money on reusables for now when there's actually nothing wrong with the systems we're using.

The leaking is just a symptom of the wider problem, which is M waking 5 times a night for feeds. If When that stops, the leaking will stop!

BookTart · 16/08/2014 15:50

If it makes you feel any better, Percy just pissed through a Little Lamb OSFA which had TWO pads in it, in an hour and a half. She is now called Percy Piss Factory by her father.

Also, the nipple biting has begun. It really hurts!

TobyLerone · 16/08/2014 15:52

Percy Piss Factory :o

She never leaks in the day unless I've left her nappy on too long.

Naturegirl82 · 16/08/2014 16:24

Oh book we have nipple biting too!

I've caught dh's illness so feel like crap Sad

toby sounds very annoying. FWIW we didn't get on with a lot of disposables as O is quite long and lean.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 16/08/2014 18:09

We're going to be using reusables when we're in Oman for a couple of weeks. I've read they are better in the heat than disposables, and someone told me nappies are expensive in Oman too... which adds to it.

As it is, I don't know if we will be able to get SMA formula over there, which means may need to bring some. Arg! The stress!

3 weeks tomorrow until we fly, hopefully dh will be coming too, if not it will be just me and the boys

beccajoh · 16/08/2014 18:19

Million it might be worth looking on the British Expats forum about formula milk. We were potentially looking at a move to Saudi earlier this year and I remember reading about formula milk and that you could get it in westernised areas.

beccajoh · 16/08/2014 18:20

Obviously a different country but same dilemma!

alteredimages · 16/08/2014 20:50

million obv egypt isn't oman but I haven't seen sma milk here. Mostly people here use bebelac and nan and similac. I read on a board that they have aptamil in Oman. I found some cow & gate but it was £30 a tub. If you can get SMA, it will be sold at the chemist not in supermarkets.

Nappies are super expensive here in Egypt, hence the reusables here. Egyptian made pampers in the green packs are about £4 for 32 size 4 but are not as good as the UK ones, the saudi made premium care ones have the elasticated tabs and are about £7 for 44. I imagine these are what would be available in Oman, though there are saudi brands like baby joy and bambi which are cheaper but a bit thick and bulky. I don't think I could personally be bothered switching to reusables during a holiday, especially with the thought of taking a wetbag around in the heat, but theyl nappies do at least dry very quickly! N is a very sweaty baby but is doing fine in motherease airflow wraps, which are better than the velcro versions in the heat. Bamboo and cotton are the best choices for breathability, I went for cotton because I don't think bamboo would survive the harsh washing powders and the heat on the washing line. One of my popolino wraps melted on the line last week and temperatures here are not as high as in the gulf.

Oman looks amazing though, I am so jealous!

alteredimages · 16/08/2014 20:58

becca formula milk is available everywhere in the middle east as there is very little breastfeeding support IME, so almost all mothers end up doing mixed feeding. The brands are different though, almost all are imported from Belgium and the Netherlands and branded for the middle east.
