Jan 2014 - can we call it a sleep regression if they didn't sleep in the first place?

I just can't cope with the 2-3 hours to settle him each night. I really can't.

Nor do I want to co-sleep as I don't end up sleeping properly.

Right now I just feel like a shit mom.

Naturegirl82 · 05/08/2014 18:34

million you're not a shit mum. This getting them to sleep lark is really hard.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 05/08/2014 18:40

It really is. I'm thinking it's going to be a long night. He really isn't caving. It's been 50 mins so far (with me going in and out when the buzzer goes off) and I just want to cry. I know the first night is the worst, it just sucks

beccajoh · 05/08/2014 18:43

Million you're doing it for his benefit too, love. He needs to have a good sleep and can't do it if he can't get himself to sleep. Every parent is different so do what YOU need to do to find a solution that works for you as a family. You are definitely NOT a shit mum.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 05/08/2014 18:50

Mike has just came upstairs and said it doesn't seem like its working and maybe we should give in.

Wtf do I do? Do I carry on or do I give in? Should he be asleep by now? It's been an hour since we started

AMillionNameChangesLater · 05/08/2014 19:01

We have silence! It might still go wrong

Naturegirl82 · 05/08/2014 19:33

Yay well done million. First night is the hardest.

I've just spent the last 40 mins hiding out in our ensuite whilst dh puts O to bed for the first time as she kept wanting me to hold her. She is also now asleep and I managed not to intervene. Smile Wish I'd had my phone on me though. Wasn't a whole lot to do!!

BookTart · 05/08/2014 19:52

Well done million and Mr nature Grin I hope you all get the fantastic night of sleep you deserve!

TobyLerone · 05/08/2014 20:13

An hour or so for the first night isn't bad at all. And the first night is the hardest. Well done.

Well done naturefamily!

Swannykazoo · 05/08/2014 20:34

I'm very impressed with you sleep trainers. With going back to work I've decided to leave the feed to sleep/co-sleep thing for a while as I'm wanting to make sure little puggle gets enough milk /reassurance. I'm worried he'll still be doing this in 6 months & would probably be a good bit more pro-active if not so lazy! Good tip about hunger from sunshine

Work was great today, DH & little puggle got on fine, and I was greeted by a happy baby that cheerily tried to pull my top down when he saw me at 4:45. Hope your first day goes well angel

It wasn't to last. Ds1 woke Henry up when he went to bed. So he is now wide awake in our bed. Sigh

TarkaTheOtter · 06/08/2014 08:25

I'm going to buck the trend here because Alex ha gone back to sleeping through from 11pm-7/8am. But I can definitely sympathise because dd is still keeping me awake at 2.5yrs. She woke when we were going to bed last night, then wouldn't let me leave her room and couldn't get back to sleep til 1am. I then took her into my bed (dh away) and she left her sippy cup upside down on her side so we both ended up sleeping on one side. Then woke at 6am. Zzzzz

beccajoh · 06/08/2014 08:33

My TB keeps waking up at 5.30 and grizzling on and off until 7am, which is when we get him up (I refuse to get up for the day before then!). Trouble is he goes to bed at about 6pm, so by 5.30 he's probably had a full night's sleep. I think we're going to have to enforce a late afternoon nap for 15 mins just to keep him going a bit longer. He was having this nap but has all gone to pot the last few days.

I can't complain too much as otherwise he's asleep. 5.30 is too early, though.

beccajoh · 06/08/2014 08:33

Million how did you get on?

Naturegirl82 · 06/08/2014 09:54

We had a better night. O slept from 7.20-1.30, then awake at 4 and 7.30. Started to get back to how she used tosleep. If she manages a similar thing tonight I'm going to try a dream feed when I go to bed a see uf that helps.

Is anyone using a cot bumper? I know they aren't recommended but O woke herself up at 4 by hitting her head on the end of her cot so am wondering if it might be useful.

FelixFelix · 06/08/2014 10:02

A million wake ups again last night Sad I am starting to lose the plot after 4 months of this now.

Nature I bought a mesh air wrap for the cot from amazon. You can either get 2 sides or 4 sides. It's brilliant and stops dummies being thrown down the back of the cot/limbs getting stuck in the bars/heads being bashed off the sides. It's breathable mesh so I don't have to worry about using it, unlike the bumper which came with her bedding set.

Sunshineseeker80 · 06/08/2014 10:44

Glad some of you had better nights and well done on sticking out the CC million. Am sure tonight will be better (and hopefully DS1 might be quieter so you can reap the benefits - must've been a testing mum moment!)

Have just come back from the pub after a mum blind date (friend of a friend on maternity leave with an 11 month old) and got Emily to sleep for the evening...will see how long it lasts...

Also have the mesh cot bumper things. They aren't as pretty as the real bumpers but like Felix said they are breathable and put my mind at rest now she is sleeping in her own room. The first time I put her in the cot (just to try it) she rolled over and whacked her head so we needed something. Can replace with something prettier in a year or so....

Having BBQ sausage sandwiches for tea in a minute despite the fact it is the "middle of winter" Has been 20 degrees today but I have gone native and walking round in a scarf and coat.

Naturegirl82 · 06/08/2014 15:23

Do the mesh bumpers actually stop them hitting their heads on the end of the bed? She is fine with the sides but moves from one end to the other in her sleep so her head bangs on the end.

Swannykazoo · 06/08/2014 19:24

sunshineseeker I like your native style. I loved the helpful Oz newspaper articles about how to stay warm in winter -tips like put on a jumper, close the curtains after dark, try a warmer duvet. Gee thanks!

Hi all Smile Haven't been on this thread for ages as I've just been going on the FB page. Think tiredness made me forget about it a little bit Blush
Sorry to hear about all the sleep problems, and hope you're all not too exhausted. Tiredness is terrible!

The mesh bumper things sounds great! Lily is always getting herself stuck and banging her head on the bars of the cot so will definitely be checking that out, thanks!

Have any babies had really bad nappy rash? We've been doing brilliantly, and she hasn't really had any, but then today she has an almost weeping sore on her bottom Sad She doesn't seem bothered by it, but I can't work out how it's happened?! Could this be to do with teething? Her dribbling has increased tenfold in the last two days and she has a low grade fever. I'm thinking teething but can't see or feel any teeth Confused

AMillionNameChangesLater · 06/08/2014 20:00

After ds1 woke him, he was awake for ages.

Tonight I put him in his sleeping bag and he settled straight away. I timed 10 mins but he's stayed quiet since then.

Ds1 will be going to bed in 15 mins so he may wake up, if he does, then we controlled cry again. Which will be interesting.

Take away should be here in 10 mins

Naturegirl82 · 06/08/2014 20:15

Well done million, that's a huge improvement. Fx your ds doesn't wake him up tonight. Enjoy the takeaway Smile

angel how was your first day back?

Dh has just arrived with my dnephews. We have them for a few days so got some busy jam packed days till dsis gets here! Should be fun Smile

FelixFelix · 06/08/2014 20:21

Shroom it will definitely be teething from the sounds of it!

Million that's good news for today. Hopefully he won't be woken up. I've got my fingers crossed for you Smile

Angelesque · 06/08/2014 21:30

nature first day back was okay, thanks for asking. Work was busy and everyone was nice to me. F was fine at nursery and has been super smiley and lovely this evening, which has been so nice. Please God it continues!

Puggle how have you found being back at work?

sunshine loving that the depths of freezing winter = 20 degrees, ha ha ha!!

MadameBonfamille · 07/08/2014 05:14

Glad you're having slightly better nights. My tiny bastard has been a bit better this week but overall still not as good as she used to be. I am caving very quickly when she wakes In the night & often bring her into bed with me as she is getting louder and often wakes dd1 up, who then doesn't go back to sleep.
sunshine whereabouts are you? I'm in oz too and also enjoying the 'winter'! Although it does get cold at night (that's my excuse for bringing h into bed with me anyway!)
