Good luck at the dentist, getting.

Angelesque · 16/07/2014 19:06

O GOD F'S BCG BLISTER JUST BURST

A TSUNAMI OF PUS

...sorry if anyone's eating dinner

AMillionNameChangesLater · 16/07/2014 19:58

Gross, but lovely!

Henry didn't get anything after his, not even a lump or a scar. Which is odd.

Swannykazoo · 16/07/2014 20:17

Wow! (am so lucky not to live in BCG area)
Million I've had to have my BCG scar looked at for work medicals to "prove" I've been vaccinated. Might be worth asking practice nurse /GP about no scar just in case it means something - though I'm no expert in this area.
Sigh -food refusal has started. Don't know if its tiredness from the new 7am start, teething, crawling frustration or my beef stew being really crap. And my GP is ignoring the conundrum of what is making little puggle so goddamn itchy

I suddenly had a little panic that Meredith hasn't had a BCG jab. I'm guessing it's just certain areas, then?

Swannykazoo · 16/07/2014 20:47

I'm pretty sure its just areas where there's relatively high TB ie big cities. Don't know if us yokels still get BCG as teenagers or if its off the cards completely

OP posts:
Angelesque · 16/07/2014 20:53

Toby it's just certain areas or if your family is considered high risk. We live in the centre of Manchester so apparently the risk is higher due to a "transient population"

AMillionNameChangesLater · 16/07/2014 20:58

Henry had one because my dad had tb when I was growing up

alteredimages · 16/07/2014 21:38

Can't really help with the UK info Toby but DD had the BCG at 3 days old here in Egypt and N had it when he was a month old in France. I had mine at 14, was that the same everywhere?

Interesting that H had his early because of your father million. I didn't realise a grandparent would be a risk factor. My mamgu had TB when I was growing up so all my brothers got the BCG early, but I wouldn't have known to ask for the BCG early for my kids. Glad they got it automatically!

alteredimages · 16/07/2014 21:41

puggle I would be very surprised if BCG wasn't offered to all children at some point given the resurgence of TB. If you travel abroad it is mandatory in many places and I wasn't allowed to start school in the US til I could prove I had had it and a hep B vaccination. They also told me the BCG wasn't enough and gave me another shot for TB but never worked out what it was.

TobyLerone · 16/07/2014 22:39

I had no idea. You'd think if it were down to large 'transient population', the South East would be a risk area. But I'm assuming not. Can't say I'm sorry. I barely coped when they did her normal jabs!
I had mine in secondary school. I don't actually know if they still do it but DS is about to start y10 and he hasn't had his yet.

FelixFelix · 16/07/2014 22:49

I'd have thought everyone would have it in Leeds too. I asked about it here and apparently only babies born from Asian parents get it. It's a bit random how it's all different in each area!

I never had a TB jab at school!

Angelesque · 16/07/2014 23:40

toby if it influences you at all the BCG appeared to be painless for F - he absolutely screamed for all his other jabs, but because the BCG is a very shallow injection between layers of skin (rather than into the muscle) it didn't appear to hurt. He was more concerned with flirting with the two blonde ladies administering the needle :)

The fountain of pus tonight was foul though

In happier news, after an 'off' day for F today (including him having a meltdown at his first nursery settling session), he's suddenly changed again - a Wonder Weeks classic leap - to proper talking babbling. He just changed this afternoon and now is a proper animated little talker. It's gorgeous :)

TobyLerone · 17/07/2014 09:02

I don't know if I'm especially irritable today or if M is particularly annoying but I fear one of us may end up locked in the shed crying by the end of the day.

The WHINING! Her, not me! And the grabbing my throat/hair. And the being completely knackered because the tiny bastard she refuses to sleep for more than 2 hours at a time all night but also refusing to nap. And the constant velcro-ness when it's far too hot.

Aaaaarrgggghhhh!!!

TobyLerone · 17/07/2014 09:04

Babies have an amazing survival instinct, though. She'll just drive me to "OMG SHUT UP!" point and then smile at me, thereby rendering me incapable of rage.

alteredimages · 17/07/2014 09:08

Snap Toby, N was doing that a couple of weeks ago. It stinks, and I only wish I had a shed to lock myself in.

However nothing can bring me down today because yesterday we went to IKEA and bought an antilop high chair. They really are great. N was also very impressed, sitting on the balcony surveying his domain.

TobyLerone · 17/07/2014 09:37

We love our Antilop :)

AMillionNameChangesLater · 17/07/2014 10:16

We have that one too, Henry loves it

FelixFelix · 17/07/2014 10:39

I'm buying an Antilop this weekend! IM FEELING THE HIGH CHAIR POSITIVITY! YEAH!

MrsGSR · 17/07/2014 12:28

Can you request the BCG? We'll probably be moving every 2 years until she's 12 so I'm sure we'll end up in a high risk area.

L's fever turned out to be a urine infection, spent Tuesday night and all of Wednesday in the hospital, we were discharged last night but she's on antibiotics until they can do an ultrasound and possibly for a while after.

FelixFelix · 17/07/2014 14:40

Oh dear, hope she's feeling better soon MrsG

Gettingthroughthis · 17/07/2014 15:55

Poor l. Hope she's better soon

TarkaTheOtter · 18/07/2014 14:33

Hope L is ok, mrsg. It's horrible when they are ill.

Thanks to this thread I just got an appt for dd and A to have hep B and BCG as they are offered as standard in Ireland but werent where we were in UK. I'm considering getting the new meningitis one privately for them both too.

We have babbling to. He particularly likes G sounds so is sounding like a stereotypical baby - ga ga goo goo etc. V cute.

Dd less cute. Potty training again after regressing into nappies again whilst moving. It is not going that well. Lots of piles of poo on the floor.

TobyLerone · 18/07/2014 21:20

Hope L is ok, MrsG. DS had a urine infection when he was a baby and it was horrible for him.

Tonight we did controlled crying for the first time. It was horrible :(
She's taken to crying/screaming at bedtime anyway. She cries whether I hold her or put her in the cot. When I hold her she throws herself backwards until I put her down. She did it tonight and it's so hot (29C on my room) that she was getting really sweaty when I was holding her. So I put her in the cot.
She doesn't sleep well at night -- wakes every 2 hours at least and I have to feed her every time. And she should be sleeping through by now. When she has a good sleep she's so much happier.
So this evening, given that she was already crying (and cries herself to sleep every night whether I'm holding her or not, I went for it.
And it was AWFUL!

But she's asleep now (thunder's just started so not sure how long for!). It took about an hour and I almost cried. DH couldn't even be upstairs because it upset him too much. And halfway through I gave in and picked her up because I couldn't bear it, but she carried on screaming so I put her back down.

I'm dreading her waking in the night!

TarkaTheOtter · 18/07/2014 21:52

toby IME it'll take three nights but tonight will be the worst. By the third night dd slept through for a while at least. It was worth it though because I was about to lose my mind at the time.

A is still up. He is a night owl but sleeps through once we go to bed. It's ok (great compared to dd) but would be nice to have an evening by myself/ with dh.

DH is back after a couple of nights away and I intend to SLACK OFF this weekend and let him take over.
