Sounds hellish toby. Hope you manage to get a nap today.

I need to ask a really stupid question. Percy has started to make a kind of throaty, wheezy noise. She isn't doing it all the time, and it isn't bothering her. Her chest doesn't sound wheezy. I can't tell if it is just a noise she is making or something else. She does seem to have hayfever as well, as she's rubbing her eyes and ears a lot and has a very runny nose. Do they just make weird noises like this? I'm not even sure if I'm worried or not!

TobyLerone · 30/06/2014 12:51

Maybe her throat is itchy. Mine gets horribly itchy with hay fever.

TarkaTheOtter · 30/06/2014 14:14

We've had a few disturbed nights too. Alex has chicken pox. He's not too bad (yet). In fact, I think it's harder on me than on him . Does mean we're stuck in again. Bored.

Gettingthroughthis · 30/06/2014 15:11

altered that sounds tough. No advice on toddlers I'm afraid

book Henry goes through phases of funny noises (although after googling he definitely isn't babbling just lots of noises) and if it doesn't seem to bother her I wouldn't worry

Oh no poor alex but as you say I'm sure it's much worse for you

TobyLerone · 30/06/2014 15:30

Poor Alex :(

AMillionNameChangesLater · 30/06/2014 21:30

Poor Alex!

altered I fast the first Sunday of every month and find that tough and I don't breastfeed! I cant always say it turns my thoughts to God either, but sometimes it does.

I've been a total twat.

went to Primark, bought some new clothes in a size 16. Bought them before trying on.

DH and I went to a Chinese restaurant for tea and I changed into my new clothes, they fit really well and feel good, although I'm very aware of a muffin top, get on with it. Text my mom to tell her (I was a size 20 before Henry) and she tells me that Primark sizes are always small, so she would call it a 14.

I got home and dh took pics to send to my mom to show her and i look gross! I have a massive muffin top, and my bra was a crap one (being fair, i wasn't expecting a date with dh as i had to throw on clothes to take ds1 to the hospital (he's fine, just pulled his elbow)) but my belly is gross and massive.

I just want to crawl back into my size 20 clothes and hide.

So now I'm upset. I should never have taken a photo.

TobyLerone · 30/06/2014 22:00

Photos are the devil. I bet you looked perfectly fine, but photos are actual bastards.

Naturegirl82 · 30/06/2014 22:18

million I bet you looked fab. I have this with photos as well and it can really make you feel rubbish. But your dh wouldn't have taken your photo if he thought you looked bad in anyway. Forget the photo and enjoy your new slimline clothes Smile

Swannykazoo · 30/06/2014 22:19

Hi all. Just had a lovely week with mama puggle visiting so its been like being on holiday!
On the negative side-more steroids for little puggle's eczema, a nasty reaction to soya and DF being an arse about helping at home (his suggestion-we get a cleaner to load the dishwasher - just put dirty dishes in as you go FFS!)

Anyway, just wondering how you're all getting on with the horror that is the weaning poo. Boak. I tried holding the fleece liner under a flushing toilet today with little effect other than splashing poo water around the place. I suppose I could get a spatula from the pound shop or just pray it turns into a rollable poo soon. Never thought I;d miss the korma poo....

TobyLerone · 01/07/2014 05:52

Disposable, flushable liners are your friend, puggle! I have some from Little Lambs.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 01/07/2014 10:49

million well done for getting in Primark 16 - they are def on the small side, I fit a 16 most places, but cannot get in a Primark 16 bottoms for anything. Photos are satans arse biscuits, good photographers make you look slimmer (see my wedding pics) but snaps inevitably give you an extra chin or five. Delete/rip up and ignore. Plus, woman, you've HAD A BABY. You're not meant to ping back into size 10 jeans like you're made of elastic. Only young and v fit people do that

BandontheFun · 01/07/2014 13:41

Million I bet you looked great. You are just more critical with yourself. Well done! Have just came to the conclusion that my tummy will never be the same again, so I wear spanx with most outfits to minimise the muffin!

FelixFelix · 01/07/2014 13:55

Million I agree that photos are the devils work. I look fucking AWFUL in photos. They are always taken at a terrible angle that no one would ever look at you from. You've done well so far! I'm a 16 too and have to buy an 18 or even 20 in Primark so you're definitely smaller than you think Smile

I am terrible at dieting. Been trying to low carb for months now and not getting anywhere Sad I keep stuffing my face at the weekends. I've lost a stone and a half since January but that's nothing in the grand scheme of things. I've got 4 more to go, and a stone and half until my pre baby weight. WAAAAH! It doesn't help that all of the ladies from my NCT class have all pinged back in to their size 10 jeans almost immediately.

DP built the cot up last night and Sylvie looked tiny sleeping in it. It took me two hours to get her to sleep because the cot was just too interesting Hmm Also had to rescue her from getting her legs wedged between the bars three times. I've ordered a breathable mesh wrap thing to go on the inside so she doesn't keep getting stuck. And I hate that I have to now get out of bed 4 times a night when she wakes up. I miss the bednest where I could be totally lazy and just roll over to stick her dummy back in/feed her.

Naturegirl82 · 01/07/2014 14:37

I've left O with the MIL for the first time only for an hour though! Feels very strange!Confused

Swannykazoo · 01/07/2014 19:52

Its weird isn't it? I left little puggle with my mum while I popped into a back to work meeting. Had a slight turn when I saw the empty car seat in the rear view mirror.
DH thinks it would be totally normal for us to go away next spring ie 2015 for a week without our boy. He thinks his mother would be fine to look after him. I'm actually really shocked by this. His parents haven't seen little puggle since a disasterous visit at 4 months, "aren't that into babies" and also keep telling him that "babies cry" ie we should do CIO. They also used to force feed their kids by holding their noses until they opened their mouths!!!
I have gone for the approach of saying "well little kids are very hard work and tiring, a week's a bit long, maybe overnight" but he thinks I'm being massively PFB. Am I? I wouldn't want to leave him with my mum for a week either - I just don't think its a good thing to do for a little kid and I'm quite hurt that he seems to want rid of our lovely boy. (might be being a tiny bit sensitive here)

OP posts:
TarkaTheOtter · 01/07/2014 21:39

I wouldn't leave dc with anyone I wasn't fully confident in whilst they are preverbal.

alteredimages · 01/07/2014 22:00

puggle you are def not being pfb. DD was 2 before I left her overnight and that was with MIL who we were living with at the time. Is there any way you could try them out with an overnight stay first? A whole week right off the bat seems madness and I personally wouldn't like to leave N overnight before he is a year old. If H is ebf then overnight stays are tricky anyway. In any case, this is your decision as primary carer and if you are happy then go for it but don't let them push you. (If it helps, my current battle is stopping MIL putting salt in N's food because she thinks he is rejecting carrots because they are unseasoned. Hmm She also thinks because her kids didn't die from eating honey as babies this is incontrovertible evidence that the botulism thing is crap. I have hidden the honey.) With any luck they will change their mind after a trial run when they realise babies are bloody hard work. Grin

million well done on the weight loss! It is really hard to lose weight and sort out exercise and healthy eating with two young children so you should be really proud of yourself. I wish I could do the same! Like everyone has said photos always bring out the worst unless you have great lighting and a good photographer. Delete the arsey photos and wear your new clothes with pride!

becca you are right that bf mothers don't have to fast but I decided to try for three days because some women have no trouble keeping up their supply while fasting. If you don't fast during ramadan you have to make up the missed days before the following ramadan so I also didn't fancy fasting alone for 30 days after going back to work, but hey ho.

N seems content but I feel like my supply has dropped and breasts are really painful so I am going to stop fasting. He still isn't eating anything to speak of and it isn't worth the risk. Would have liked to strangle the fuckwit doctor last week when DH asked about me fasting. He said I should give N some carrot or courgette puree and because that means he would be eating the fasting wouldn't affect him. I would love to restrict his major source of nutrition for a month then give him two spoons of vegetable puree and tell him he is fine because he is eating. I have heard this so much from people the past week. Do people honestly think that as soon as a baby has a spoon of food they stop needing milk? Rant over Angry

alteredimages · 01/07/2014 22:07

tarka hope alex is ok and the spots stay away from his face and clear up soon. Also hope you are all settling in well after the move.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 02/07/2014 09:05

puggle def not PFB. I've left Alex twice for a few hours with my lovely MIL, who absolutely wants to do things the way we do, and would never impose her parenting views on us, hence why I'm confident leaving her - they get along famously, and MIL loves it too. If she we're like my DM insisted on things I wasn't comfortable with, I wouldn't do it.
Can you talk to your DH and agree what you both want in the way of CIO/feeding/sleeping, then present this as 'this is how you look after DC'?
It sounds a little as if DH isn't supporting your decisions - apologies if I'm misreading. If he isn't, you need to agree what you both want for your child, and go from there I speak from experience, much bickering between me and DH before we sat down and hashed out our approach. Thanks

beccajoh · 02/07/2014 09:24

You're not being PFB at all puggle. I wouldn't be happy leaving either of mine for that long and both sets of grandparents are brilliant, see them regularly and so on. I just wouldn't enjoy a whole week away from my children. Maybe when they're older, but not so little.

BandontheFun · 02/07/2014 09:41

Felix I ordered one if the cot wraps yesterday after googling. It came this morning. It seems to do the job.

Naturegirl82 · 02/07/2014 09:52

puggle I wouldn't want to leave O for that long either.

Just came back from the shops and the dog has chewed one of my new (bought Monday) shoes! Sad Just as well they only cost £4. I shall have to replace asap.

goodmorninggoodyawning · 02/07/2014 11:04

Sorry for the permanent downer but I need to vent. I am altered btw.

It is a good thing I am not fasting because I have got mastitis. I am pretty sure it is because of the lack of fluids since N has been feeding plenty. Does anyone know if dehydration can cause mastitis?

Anyway, I told MIL about it and that I am not fasting today, hoping for a bit of sympathy and to be let off some chores/cooking, but no. I got a lecture about how it is all my own fault because N is six months old (2 days ago) so should be having three meals a day and just feeding in between. I am not meeting his needs because he needs these meals and milk isn't enough and I should be fasting too because he doesn't need the milk since he will be eating. FFS. Sad

I can't even talk to DH because I am sure he will take his mum's position since even the paediatrician here says the same crap.

Sometimes I feel like I am living in a parallel universe where everything is upside down and reversed.

I can't wait to move out of here and go to our own flat now.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 02/07/2014 11:32

Oh yawning that's shit. She's wrong. And the paediatricians are wrong, most of the nutrition comes from milk until a year. Food is fun until they're one. What about all those eight month olds that won't eat solids? Do they all fall to thrive? Nonsense.

I'm sorry you have mastitis, that really sucks. I haven't any knowledge of it (yet) from experience so no idea if dehydration causes it, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't help. You're v sensible to drop the fasting while bfing.
Hope things improve soon, and I wouldn't be asking to be let off chores, I'd be sitting, feet up and just not doing chores.

goodmorninggoodyawning · 02/07/2014 11:43

That's what I am doing humpty, and luckily FIL has just come in to say that he will order in grilled fish so there won't be any cooking. Smile Still wants me to feed N more though and has suggested the dreaded baby cereal.

I am also being a superb parent, and DD is playing Disney Princess Palace Pets on my mobile.
