How lovely nature!

Hello hchc

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 28/06/2014 20:40

Hi hchc nice to meet you.

madame I've tried (in this order): pear purée, butternut squash purée, a slice of nectarine, carrot purée, carrot sticks, a strawberry, a chunk of banana, and a couple of Goodies cheese and herb puffs. Have just bought some baby porridge, and sugar free biscuits I refused to buy the wankily named 'baby biscotti' which are probably vile, but good for her to gnaw on. Not keen on rusks for sugar content. Next things I'm planning are yoghurt, and parsnip purée. Not together, you understand, that would be vile.
Oh and we tried a blueberry today.
Carrot purée - she rejected my lovingly home steamed and blended purée in favour of Ella's Kitchen super smooth one, but the others have been popular. Banana was not touched, and the strawberry and blueberry got a wrinkled up face and chucked on the floor. May try more veg, steam a bit of broccoli and hand it to her.

Also not sterilising sippy cup, bowl, spoon etc. I was doing boiled water in sippy cup, but v glad to hear that's not necessary! She chews literally everything, so there's no point!

angel sympathy. We're renting too, it sucks. Good luck.

nature no crawling here yet - but rolling both ways, always pulling up to standing if offered a hand or near something useful, and does the yoga fold over, forehead on the floor thing. Tis mighty amusing.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 28/06/2014 20:42

getting not nature sorry.

Oh, and band Alex was the same the first few days. I was about to stop trying when she figured out swallowing. Seemed to happen in about 3-4 attempts.

FelixFelix · 28/06/2014 20:43

Welcome hchc!

I never thought of tablecloths! I have bought a wipe clean mat thing from the pound shop today. Dunno how shit it will be but it's worth a try.

Been out shopping today and spent a fortune on baby clothes Blush Had a crap load of dresses bought for us but no babygrows or vests, or just normal clothes. So now she's kitted out until she grows in to 9-12 months, and I hope it's not soon! I feel really guilty that she's only worn a lot of her 3-6 stuff once so I've been trying to squeeze her in to all of it but I can't get away with it any more Grin

What are you all doing with outgrown baby stuff? I cant cope with getting rid of any of it. I thought about making a memory blanket from it but would feel terrible cutting things up. I think I'll get rid of the cheap stuff we bought and vacuum pack the nice bits just in case we ever have another girl one day.

Also, where the F can I buy plain coloured leggings for cheap? I've tried some places and they are either patterned or pink. I want navy blue and maybe grey and some other colours. H&M was rubbish, so was M&P, Mothercare, Asda, TK Maxx. GAP is too expensive Grin

TarkaTheOtter · 28/06/2014 21:07

felix tesco and sainsburys often have plain coloured leggings. I wonder if you might have to wait til autumn for darks like navy but you might find a pale grey.

TarkaTheOtter · 28/06/2014 21:08

Also matalan.

FelixFelix · 28/06/2014 21:22

Thanks will have a look at all three. I think it's the wrong time of year too. I just want some that will go with a few brightly coloured/patterned tops she's got.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 29/06/2014 08:00

felix I got plain navy one from tesco in 9-12 about 3 weeks ago..
I'm keeping clothes for no 2 - if it's a boy, I'll have to buy a few more bits, but a lot is plain and yellow or green, so does for a boy or girl. After that, my best mate is making the nicer bits into a memory blanket for me. I also can't throw out yet, have vacu-packed newborn, 0-3 and 3-6 stuff.

beccajoh · 29/06/2014 08:22

Try Next online for leggings. I got DD a load of plain leggings earlier this year, although it was winter stock in the sale.

FelixFelix · 29/06/2014 10:24

Thank you! We have some vouchers for next from when she arrived so we can put them to good use Grin

BandontheFun · 29/06/2014 10:46

Felix I second next. They always have plain leggings and the wash really well. Also sign up for gap emails I always get 30% discounts and extra discounts off sale stuff can't remember the last time I paid full price for anything in Gap.

Shower curtain that's a great idea Book need something I can just wipe clean.

Humpty that's good to know. I Know Harley and Alex only have one day between them so will keep going with it. So far I have made nothing Pouches all the way for me.

The good stuff I'm keeping and the other stuff I was never that keen on is getting sent to charity, also hoping to keep some stuff for Harley when she's older if she has a little girl. I really have spent way to much money on it.

I have been getting stuff in bigger sizes got loads in the Zara sale. Got Harley a playsuit for next summer with pineapples on it. It's really sweet.

beccajoh · 29/06/2014 10:48

Following up from the discussion about babbling and babies recognising their own name, I found this really helpful doc on a FB group I belong to www.leics.gov.uk/child_monitoring_tool-2.pdf

It's a guide about what to expect at each age.

FelixFelix · 29/06/2014 11:00

Band I got a load of stuff in the sale at GAP around Christmas but bought all of it in 3-6 because I'm an idiot Grin I always forget about Zara! I bought Sylvie some stretchy jeans with tropical flowers and pineapples on yesterday Grin

MadameBonfamille · 29/06/2014 11:13

toby tablecloth - genius!

felix have you tried boots? I used to love their stuff, and I was very 'anti-pink' with my first (I have softened a bit this time around)

Thanks for all the food tips. We tried some nectarine tonight and she loved it - but dh and I are both too scared of choking to let her go to town by herself, we really need to let go a bit! Dd1 was allergic to egg so I'm a bit paranoid about allergies but she is now a super fussy eater too which I think wasn't helped by me worrying about whether everything she had contained egg, so i really want to try to be a bit more laid back this time.

We had a lovely day at our local theme park on the Gold Coast (we live in australia - can't remember if I've said that) and it is now the beginning of the school holidays so I am facing the next 2 weeks with an equal mixture of excitement and dread!

FelixFelix · 29/06/2014 11:32

Madame I looked at boots but couldn't find anything. I always forget how nice their baby clothes are! I was totally against pink when I was pregnant but now she's had loads of pink stuff. Her 6-9 wardrobe is very blue!

Also have you seen those teat things with holes in where you put food inside and it means babies can chew the food with no risk of having huge bits to choke on? I can't link on the app but google clevamama clevafeed. Although it doesn't really help them explore textures etc. as much but it might keep your mind at rest. I think you can buy a version that's sort of like a net they can chew on too, but the thought of chewing a net really goes through me Grin

I don't know how good they are but they seem to have decent reviews Smile

MadameBonfamille · 29/06/2014 11:50

Actually we have one of the net things felix but i had forgotten we have it, I'll have a go. Haven't seen the teat ones over here - that sounds more pleasant than chewing a net I have to admit!

beccajoh · 29/06/2014 12:23

Nuby does a little mesh bag with a big chunky handle for them to hold. You stick the food in and they can go at it. Good if you're nervous about giving finger food.

beccajoh · 29/06/2014 12:24

But they're a bugger to clean and I agree about the chewing on a net thing!

beccajoh · 29/06/2014 12:59

Avocado and banana mashed together is a hit... I tried some and it is indeed quite yummy!

alteredimages · 29/06/2014 23:17

First day of ramadan DONE! Only 29 more to go. DD got a ramadan toy lamp yesterday which doesn't uave a separate switch for the mind destroying music it plays. Quick switch tomorrow with one that can just light up I think.

Wasn't planning on fasting but decided to try and today was ok, N seemed satisfied enough all day, though he did have some mashed banana in the afternoon. I really want to try him on avocado but can't find any in the shops. Need high chair to start weaning properly though.

Finding DD (almost 4) really trying though and losing my temper too much. I think I need a good parenting book with useful strategies for headstrong and independent preschoolers exhibiting classic controlling behaviour. Any recommendations?

TobyLerone · 30/06/2014 09:44

Well done, altered. Fasting while BFing is HARD, especially if there's sleep deprivation thrown in on top. Look after yourself :)
Re the parenting book, I have no idea but I bet you'd get some good advice/recommendations if you posted on the Parenting board. Then report back here, obviously, for future reference!

I have one of the net things. Got it from the 99p shop. I've used it once, but M had no idea what to do with it!

Horrible night here. I was in tears at one point. She would not be put in the cot. I was up from midnight til 2am trying to settle her, then up every hour after that. Then at 5am I had to strip her and change everything she was wearing because she was soaked through due to wanting to feed every time she woke up.
She's asleep now. When she wakes up I shall attempt to go to the library/Dunelm/Sainsbury's. Oh, what an exciting life I lead!

beccajoh · 30/06/2014 10:01

I thought you didn't have to fast if you're breastfeeding? Or is it just personal choice?

Sounds like a tough night Toby. Hope you manage to get a bit of a rest today.

Naturegirl82 · 30/06/2014 10:22

toby sounds like a hard night. We had one of those on Wednesday, with me crying at dh at 4.30am! He was lovely and got up with her.

I thought we were back to only 1 night feed now she was in her cot but we had three last night.

Really don't know what's going on with this cot though. I was sent a replacement on Thursday (which was fine but confusing as we had agreed for it to be sent today) and now apparently I'm getting another delivered today! I'm going to let the company work it out as I'm fed up of phoning them and they don't seem to have a clue what they are doing!

Naturegirl82 · 30/06/2014 10:23

well done altered for fasting, no way could I do that!
