angel that's so stressful, poor you. I hope you find somewhere fabulous.

The doctor wants me to wean P NOW (she's another one that thinks six months can be too late), and because she thinks we need the food to actually go in rather than on the floor she has advised starting with purée. It also helps to have something to mix her medicine into. Just tried apple, and she's not impressed at all. So far she has spat out mango, parsnip, sweet potato and squash, but will gum cucumber and banana chunks so it looks like we'll be back to BLW soon.

I'm not worried about the babbling thing yet. She does a mean pterodactyl screech, so she definitely can make a noise, and her hearing test was fine. I think the concern might be that the reflux has damaged or hurt her throat somehow. Anyway, we'll see.

We've got an NCT christening party this weekend. I've only ever been to one other christening - do people take presents?

TobyLerone · 27/06/2014 15:40

Yogurt (and in fact everything bar the usual honey/nuts/known family allergens stuff) is fine from 6 months.

Re BFing and water, M is having water from a sippy cup (which she's slowly getting the hang of) with food. Otherwise just BFing as normal.

TobyLerone · 27/06/2014 15:42

Yes to christening presents. Maybe a nice book of fairytales or something?

FelixFelix · 27/06/2014 15:43

Madame, Sylvie is 6 months now and I've been giving her natural yoghurt mixed with puréed pear. She loves it! I think they can have most things from 6 months apart from salt, added sugar, honey, runny eggs. I can't remember what else!

Im only sterilising bottles at the moment too. Don't bother with bowls/spoons/sippy cup. I've been giving her a drink of water in the afternoon as I noticed her poo has been quite solid since I started weaning her, and the water seems to help.

beccajoh · 27/06/2014 15:49

Booktart yes it's usual to take a present. I'd go with a nice storybook compendium or a selection of classic books (Shirley Hughes is good).

BookTart · 27/06/2014 15:58

Thanks all - present it is :)

Percy has been using a free flow sippy cup for a while as she refuses bottles. I stupidly bought a new cup today and she hates it as it requires effort sucking. No to sterilising stuff here too. We'll be dairy free until she's at least one though so it is less of an issue. I miss lovely dairy. Please all eat cheese on my behalf and tell me how nice it is Confused

TobyLerone · 27/06/2014 16:27

If it's one of the Tommee Tippee ones with the handles, you can take the valve out but it makes a godawful mess if they upend it.

BookTart · 27/06/2014 16:30

Nah, I cheaped out and bought a Boots own brand one. That'll teach me!

Gettingthroughthis · 27/06/2014 17:05

Sorry for silence, h is fine now. Went to the doctors Tuesday morning (few hours after the out of hours trip) and h was absolutely fine so went off on our holiday which was lovely. Although h got heat rash one day and I worried he had meningitis pfb! back home now

Glad lara and other babies are recovering. Sounds like everyone's struggling

H has a taste of most things I'm eating and loves the purée pouches which I probably give him far too much. I have the same problem with picking up food with a fist and ramming that in but will keep trying

spg that sounds awful. Glad they avoided the pram though

H is quite a babbler and has done since about 4 weeks! Noisy bugger. Not a fan of the dinosaur name that toby said but no idea how to spell! noises

Gettingthroughthis · 27/06/2014 17:10

Also is anyone crawling yet? H has been doing swimming lessons since 8w so now when he tries to move does his swimming arms and legs which obviously does bugger all but is quite good and multiple rolls across the floor to get somewhere and also lieing on his back and pushing himself backwards with his feet. Baby we went on holiday is now just 6 months (so 6 weeks older than h) and crawls all the time, pulls herself up to standing and cruises

FelixFelix · 27/06/2014 17:46

Getting glad you managed to get away on holiday!

No crawling here yet. Sylvie just rolls across the room. She sometimes pushes her bum right up in the air and pushes herself up with her arms. She tries to commando crawl but ends up shuffling herself round in a circle. There's a baby at the group I go to who is 9 days older than Sylvie who is crawling!

Gettingthroughthis · 27/06/2014 17:48

I'm in no rush for h to crawl though as it makes lazy parenting much harder!

I'd be pregnant with number 2 now if I could (but obviously given current situation that's not going to happen :( ). I loved being pregnant and having a little baby well not so little at 10.7

Naturegirl82 · 27/06/2014 21:15

O is very nearly crawling, been able to get up on hands and knees for a few weeks (also on hands and feet looks like she is doing yoga) and can push with her legs but hasn't quite worked out the arms yet. She acquired a few facial bruises today from head butting the floor by pushing and not moving her arms! Oops! She can get from hands and knees to sitting position as well so is doing a bit of a bum shuffle to get places!

She had her first night in her cot last night and she slept so much better as she wasn't hitting the sides Smile

I thought I'd read somewhere about avoiding strawberries till a year in case of allergies (I think a history of eczema or asthma in the family). Not sure if I've made that up though. Hmm

book I was confused about the sitting up as well so had asked the hv on Tuesday. Glad I wasn't the only one Smile

Still not weaning here. She is still satisfied with bf so waiting still.

Thankfully the house was fine, police are involved but doubt they will find them, it had all been done in my nan's name (who died 8 years ago!)

Glad everyone is feeling better Smile

Naturegirl82 · 27/06/2014 21:16

Haha massive over use of smileys! Clearly I'm happy it's Friday!

Naturegirl82 · 27/06/2014 21:17

Getting glad you managed to get some holiday. Hope you had time to relax

Naturegirl82 · 27/06/2014 21:22

book we were given some lovely things for O's christening. Children's bible stories or a book of children's prayers is quite nice. We were given a pop up bible atlas which is fab (teaches about geography as well)

Spged · 28/06/2014 02:33

230am and we have a new sound effect. "Who who who!" Together with her wide open eyes she's making quite a convincing owl.

FelixFelix · 28/06/2014 07:50

Spged Grin

DP came in very late last night so I've had Sylvie on the bed since 7am pulling his hair and beard. He's still 'asleep' and she thinks its hilarious.

BandontheFun · 28/06/2014 12:03

I tried H with some food today, carrots, still not sure she's ready she didn't eat a lot and kept biting the spoon, she still had the tongue thrust thing so didn't actually get a lot, think BLW might be the way to go for her. I will probably keep letting her taste the purées until she's 6 months, to build up a taste also to make sure she's not allergic. Not sure how I feel about how messy blw is. May have to invest in those massive plastic sheets.

Was planning on walking to the park today but the weather seems to have taken a turn for the worst.

BookTart · 28/06/2014 15:31

band I bought a cheap shower curtain from Wilkinson's for BLW as I'm not keen on the messiness. Oddly, P gets upset when her high chair tray is mucky, so I've clearly spawned a mini-me!

TobyLerone · 28/06/2014 15:35

I'm on the hunt for some cheap tablecloths for under the highchair because it'll be easier to just shake them over the bin and put in the washing machine. At the moment I'm just using a towel or a blanket.

hchc · 28/06/2014 16:13

Hello! Felt like I should finally post a message after lurking for ages. Hoping you don't mind me joining.
My little boy Ronan was born on the 15th Jan, can't believe it's coming up to 6 months already.
We're getting ready to start blw this week so we've just been out and bought a cheap table cloth from Dunelm Mill to put on the floor. Not sure how we'll get on with it but I'm too lazy to puree!

TobyLerone · 28/06/2014 16:48

Dunelm! Of course! Thanks (and welcome) :o

Naturegirl82 · 28/06/2014 17:39

Just came back from having my hair cut to find dh and O out, tv and laptop still on! I assume if there was an emergency he would have told me right???

Naturegirl82 · 28/06/2014 18:09

He has turned up with shopping bags full of treats for me so all is ok Smile
