He is ridiculously excited. Last week when the teacher came through to reception to take the group of children he was first through the doors and up the corridor. Gone. Some kids were teary and hugging parents. Not him. Not me either. He has absolutely no fear of school and keeps asking when can he wear his uniform (when I buy it, dear). He tells everyone he is going to XXX school and he will soon be one of the big boys.

I am ecstatic. Dan will be off my hands at preschool for 3 sessions a week and I can finally restart uni which has been on hold for years.

Lurgy sounds horrible. Did you get it from a child?

LetThereBeCupcakes · 09/06/2015 07:56

That's great Jun - I think DS will be similar when it's his turn. His nursery is attached to the school so the transition is handled really well.

Yes I think I've inherited my lurgy from DS. Typical - he only had it for a coupld of days and I just can't shake it!

JuniperTisane · 09/06/2015 08:07

I really didn't like the school his preschool is attached to so the environment is entirely new but he is so confident and he knows a couple of boys already.

I had one of them over to play yesterday afternoon after preschool and they have both already informed me that they think they will be the mischeivous ones Hmm I foresee us being very well aquainted with the head's office in the future...

LetThereBeCupcakes · 15/06/2015 08:08

Crikey, it's quiet around here!

Jun I forsee similar problems with DS. His nursery is attached to the primary school that he will hopefully go to, so the teachers will already know to look out for him!

DS has a Postman Pat van. A friend of DH brought it over at the weekend - it was made for his children and they are all grown up now so he gave it to DS, bless him. So far it's been a bus, an icecream truck, a Landrover, and briefly an actual Post Van. Hours of fun to be had.

AppleCrumples · 15/06/2015 10:04

Cupcakes that's so lovely. My neighbour gave us loads of their grandkids old toys when dss were little, we still have the trucks and a kitchen and those grandkids are driving!

Ivy got a digger last week as our roads have been ripped up for new gas pipes and she us mad on their diggers :)

Dd1 is doing well. She is disappointed not to be in a cast but Dr said a splint will do.

Juniper sounds like ds is all ready for school. Ds1 goes for his taster day next month. He seems quite relaxed about it all. His friends have started calling round so they can walk to school together...sometimes I feel like I am losing him a bit.

SnozzberryPie · 15/06/2015 16:48

Found you all!

Juniper that sounds exciting, what are you planning to study?

How is everyone getting on with potty training? Dd has started telling us when she needs a poo (sometimes, if she's not too interested in something else she's doing). If we're at home I whip her nappy off and stick her on the potty and she does it there. Nothing is happening with wees though, probably as she wears disposable nappies and doesn't really know or care that she is wet. So I'm thinking we might need to brave it and go nappy free when we're at home so she starts to get the idea.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 16/06/2015 07:32

snozz we had a go at potty training about 6 weeks ago - DS was keen but needing to wee every 15-20 minutes and got frustrated having to stop playing so frequently! So we stopped for a bit.

Then on Saturday morning he woke up and announced he will no longer be wearing a nappy Hmm so we're having a nother go at the moment. Day 1 no accidents (but I forgot to take his nappy off after nap time so he was in it for a while). Day 2 and 3 one accident each. Today is his first morning at nursery with no nappy so we'll see how he goes.

Apple I can't imagine having one going up to secondary! I bet the last 11 years have flown by.

JuniperTisane · 19/06/2015 23:14

Its English Lit & Lang degree which will probably take me somewhere between four and six years to complete part time. I'm 38, left school at 16 with averagely poor grades and no incentive to better them. Worked scut jobs for years, did some behind the scenes NHS IT work and had some children and finally found it within me to go on and get some education while I still have the opportunity.

Anyway.

Today we got home this afternoon to find DH had turned Dan's cot into a bed and moved his room about. This has been coming for a week or two ever since he found he could reach the light switch from his cotbed and was forever clicking the bloody thing instead of going to sleep Hmm. He was very pleased with the idea and happily went to bed, had stories, said goodnight, got out of bed and eventually fell asleep bum-in-air on the spare duvet on the floor as expected Grin

Potty training? Well, he has finally realised what the potty is for and will actually sit there for more than a microsecond, staring intently down at his willy until a tiny drop comes out. He actually gets on better sitting on the loo. I reckon we'll have it cracked by Christmas Smile. (which would still be younger than DS1)

glorious · 20/06/2015 10:44

Yay Juniper, glad the study plans are working out. Good for you. Are you all excited yet?

I'm off to my parents' tomorrow and then we're all going to Glastonbury. I have a stupid amount of stuff to cart across London and on the train. DH is off to the States so is no help!

AppleCrumples · 20/06/2015 11:13

Juniper that sounds good and exciting :)

Glorious glastonbury sounds good, not sure about carting loads of stuff across London tho!

Ds1 went off on his yr 6 residential yesterday. Waving the coach off was surprisingly traumatic.

Took ds2 to see take that at the cinema last night. He loved it and is still singing never forget and waving his arms Grin

Have given up on potty training for now. She doesn't seem interested and I don't think she is ready yet. Maybe over the summer? She has a place at playgroup from Jan so hoping she gets it by then.

SnozzberryPie · 20/06/2015 21:20

Good for you doing a degree juniper. I did a pt course just before I had dd and noticed that, in general, the mature students were way more motivated than the younger ones.

Glorious, hope the weather is good for you.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 22/06/2015 09:46

Glorious how was Glastonbury?

snozz are you enjoying the course? I started doing a course in Canine Behaviour but have had to have a break for financial reasons. Can't wait to get back to it though!

Don't look now but I think DS might be out of nappies! He's been wearing pants for a week now and we've not had an accident since Friday afternoon. He's struggling to understand why he has to wear a nappy at night though which is causing... stress! I've noticed his nappies have been much drier in the morning though - this morning's I'm not even sure he'd weed in at all. So maybe he'll be out of them completely soon.

This morning we had a 20 minute trantrum over a cup of water... Hmm

glorious · 23/06/2015 19:09

Hasn't started yet (it's tomorrow until Sunday but things really start on Friday ).

V exciting about the potty training!

JuniperTisane · 23/06/2015 20:00

Dan did a wee on the toilet this evening. That's about it from here. Have fun at Glastonbury Glorious

LetThereBeCupcakes · 24/06/2015 08:44

Have a fabulous time at Glastonbury glorious!

Jun Yay! It's a good start.

Potty Training: DONE! Hooray! Nappies seem dry in the morning now, too...

Dinesawwww · 25/06/2015 10:18

Morning all. How is everyone? No potty training happening here. DD1 had a few days of wanting to sit on the loo or potty but never doing anything and is now refusing to even sit on either of them Hmm. Yesterday she was an utter HORROR. Full on tantrums about nothing, refusing to eat, screaming an eardrum-shattering scream at every opportunity... Very wearing. She seems a bit better today. She has however started calling me and DP 'Mum' and 'Dad' which makes me feel very old! Grin.

Took her for her 'try out' session at preschool on Monday. She loved it and enjoyed bossing all the other kids around! She is a bossy thing... She's going two mornings a week initially then will up it when she gets funding next Spring.

V exicting about your study plans Jun :)

DD2 is three months old today! Can't quite believe it.

Meringue how are you doing and how is your DD?

Glorious enjoy Glasto!

Dinesawwww · 25/06/2015 10:18

Oops forgot to change my name back... it's Tugs

SnozzberryPie · 25/06/2015 13:13

All well here. Dd likes sitting on the potty but rarely does anything, maybe she's not physically ready.

We are having a few tantrums, she had one the other day because I made her get in her car seat when she wanted to drive. I am such a meanie Wink

SnozzberryPie · 25/06/2015 13:15

PS I'm 17 weeks pg now and this time I am HUGE! I can feel the baby moving already which is nice. I have a consultant appointment in a few weeks to discuss dd's premature birth and whether or not it is likely to happen again.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 29/06/2015 09:02

Tugs we're getting a bit of "Mum" and "Dad" too. And occasionally DS uses our ACTUAL names. Shock He's also started calling my step-mum Nana, which she hates. She's tried to convince all of her grandchildren / stemp grandchildren to call her by her name but none of them do.

Snozz 17 weeks already! Wow. Hope the consultant appointment goes OK. How early was DD if you don't mind me asking?

We were camping all weekend. DS weed on the grass and then I sat in it, just as we'd packed up to go home, so I had to travel home in wet jeans.

We are going through a "defiant" stage at the moment. Lots and lots of "NO!!" and "I DON'T WANT TO!!". And I never get it right. If I try to put him in his Thomas Pyjamas, he wants his Frozen ones. If I offer him milk, he wants water. Tis very trying.

RatOnnaStick · 29/06/2015 12:57

Love the new name Tugs or Dino? What shall we call you now? I can't believe your baby is 3 months already, it only seems like a few weeks ago you were pregnant.

Snozz nearly halfway. Fingers crossed its plain sailing for you for the rest of the pregnancy. How early was DD?

Cupcakes we have lots of defiance too, not much in the way of negatives but lots and lots of "want it. Want it. WAAAAAANNNNNTTT IIIIITTTTTTTT NOW!!!! accompanied by throwing a hissy fit on the floor. He also is inclined to run everywhere which means going out with both children can be challenging as he isn't inclined to sit in the pushchair and he isn't keen on the backpack reins. We have many many difficult days right now.

We went to Drusillas zoo park on the south coast yesterday which was a great day out for both boys. A nice combination of animals and lagoon and adventure park at the end. We used clubcard vouchers to get in though, £70 family entry without.

Its full-on Minions love here at the moment. I've been ordered (by DS1) to get him Minions socks, pants and pyjamas and a tshirt and a duvet cover and can he have some Minions swimming shorts too please mum... Hmm I'm already in the middle of forking out for school uniform. I might stretch to Minions pants if he's lucky.

JuniperTisane · 29/06/2015 12:58

Me again, am Rat too Blush

AppleCrumples · 29/06/2015 13:00

Frustrating isn't it cupcakes. Ivy is the same. Everything I do is wrong even when it's what she asked for. Fortunately all the rest grew out of this so she will too!

Ds2 mates have started calling for him so now my weekends are spent fielding various 9 and 11 year olds on my doorstep Hmm and yesterday ds1 accidentally turned off his phone, no one could contact him and he was late I ended up driving to the park to find him, then read him the riot act. It was easier when I had to always be with them...

SnozzberryPie · 29/06/2015 16:52

Dd was 35 weeks. It was a mystery why she was born early so I'm a bit nervous it could happen again, especially if it was an earlier gestation.

I sympathise with the defiant toddler stage. Dd has also decided she'd rather not nap any more.yesterday she made it to 6pm through sheer stubbornness, then fell asleep into her dinner.

Rat Drusilla's is local to us too and we go whenever we have enough club card points. Dd likes the hello kitty cars best.

Hope everyone's enjoying the weather Smile

JuniperTisane · 29/06/2015 16:58

Thomas train all the way here. And the penguins. Its a good hour and a half from us - just about the limit of ok for a day out.
