STILL NOT SLEEPING!
I am so tired,
The getting up is not to early, about 7.30, but when he decides that 2 hourly feeds are in order it seems like the middle of the night, and i have no choc to make me feel better....
On the good news, i weighed myself for the first time this morning, 9.2, so still a couple of pound above pre pg but i am on my sf, and had milky boobs.

angelhunter · 08/10/2006 22:23

Well we have found out what caused our sleeping change, a first tooth appeared yesterday. But unusually it is an eye tooth. Thankfully the sleeping has got a little better since the tooth broke through, only up at 11:30 and then 6. Not what it was but better.

DebitheScot · 09/10/2006 09:35

We've gone backwards a bit in the sleeping too. The first 2 nights after dropping the late feed he woke up at about 12.30 and about 4.00 but that wasn't surprising as he would normally be woken up once and wake up at least once more. The next night he woke up about 6 times, then 3 or 4 the next night. Last night it was just twice again, oh plus a brief wakening at 6.20 but persuaded him it wasn't breakfast time yet.
He's had very rosy cheeks for the last few days and had a big scream yesterday afternoon so I reckon it must be to do with teeth.

I am very lucky in that dh gets up most during the night with ds and ds does usually go back to sleep fairly quickly and never gets fed during the night. Yesterday morning dh took ds out for a bit walk (he was determined to find a Scottish paper to read all about Scotland beating France!) and apart from waking for about half an hour at 7.00ish to feed ds I slept until 11.15. It was great

Its just dawned on me that this is the month that all our babies become 6 months old. How did that happen???

pepperrabbit · 10/10/2006 21:21

Hello everyone, we've been away and it's just taken me half an hour to catch up with the whole thread, feel like a kid when you've been off sick for a week and school is suddenly alien.
Both DS's were fine on holiday except if we went out at night they refused to settle full stop which was a little wearing - why is it that after a really late night they still wake up early?
Normally DS2 is an excellent sleeper (at the risk of being run off the thread) in real life I'm embarrassed to tell people that I have to wake him up in the mornings (9am today )
Went to clinic today for the new jab and asked the HV about weaning as I've waited till the 6 month mark and she said I had to fast track him and try a new food almost every day, which is a bit of a bugger as we only have apple ready and I kind of planned on eaking that out till the weekend ad then doing shopping/cooking/pureeing/freezing malarkey. Sigh.
Glad everyone's enjoying their babies, as Ponka said, thay are just so cute these days!

littlepiggieneedssomesleep · 10/10/2006 21:35

tell hv to f**k off, there is no rush, there is no harm in only trying a couple of things a week. I have had a similar conversation with a hv who said, ' nothing before 6 moths they they need lots of food', how can going from milk only to 3 meals a day be good for them?

pepperrabbit · 10/10/2006 22:24

She said to be on 3 meals a day by 7 months and finger foods by 8. Tired just thinking about it.
But you're right - how can their little systems cope with such a sudden onslaught? (sp?). To be fair she did say that while gluten etc was fine now not to leap into porridgr/pasta/wheat all in one go.
He's just looked puzzled by the baby rice so far!

angelhunter · 11/10/2006 02:39

i agree with littlepiggieneedssomesleep to introduce so much so quickly is too much i only introduced one food at a time. i think to be introducing a different food every day doesn't give them time to adjust to each one. my dd didn't like the baby rice either so didn't worry about it, might try it again later

Homsa · 11/10/2006 09:50

Arrgh HVs... I'm seeing mine tomorrow, will get DD weighed, I bet she hasn't put on any weight since she was weighed a month ago. I can literally see her "stretching out", she's gone from being a really chubby baby to a normal-looking one. The weaning isn't going too well, even though I'm serving up all the favourites - sweet potatoes, fromage frais, butternut squash, banana, baby rice with fruit... she just spits most of it straight back out. How much are other babies eating at the moment then? I maybe get about a teaspoon's worth of solids into DD on an average day. Maybe she's just not ready. Luckily the bf is still going very well.

DebitheScot · 11/10/2006 11:01

My recipe book says that if you wait till 6 months you should go a bit faster with introducing new stuff but to still try things for a couple of days before giving something new. If he's lasted this long pepperrabbit I'm sure he can cope with waiting a few more days before you start throwing lots of variety at him.

Homsa my ds eats 8 icecubes worth of veg at lunctime and 6 plus about 5 teaspoons of rice at tea time. Just started him on breakfast too, some baby cereal mixed with rusk (found wheat free ones). I think he might be a pig!

angelhunter · 11/10/2006 20:48

My dd eats a small (1inch deep x 3inch x 2 inch)tupperware container of stewed fruit or a medium banana a day. So far we have tried apple and pear seperate and stewed together. Next we are going to try a vegetable maybe avocardo or kumara (nz sweet potato)

littlepiggieneedssomesleep · 12/10/2006 20:17

not sure how much ds is eating and how much he is wearing!
We are doing blw, it is great fun. Had sweet potato for tea, he seems to like copying us, plays a bit unless i have a bite then give the rest to him, then he eats it.

We have a tooth as well, found it yesterday, can only see a tiny bit, but i can feel it.

Homsa · 12/10/2006 20:33

Debi & angelhunter, that's more than my DD eats in a week! I knew she was only eating very little, but didn't realise it was that little!

Had her weighed today and as expected, she hasn't put on any weight since she was weighed 4 weeks ago. HV wasn't overly concerned, just said that some bf babies find it very hard to get their little heads round the idea of eating solids, and she'll weigh her again in a month's time. It's so weird how DD's weight curve is almost exactly the same as DS's when he was her age.

Ponka · 12/10/2006 23:34

I wouldn't worry too much about what your health visitor said, Pepperabbit. It sounds so stupid to me. They tell you to hold on until 6 months and then they give you the impression you need to move quickly/catch up?!

DS is going slowly. He's tried Apple, Parsnip, Peach and Carrot. He's spat most of them out again although he's starting to like bits and pieces. Mostly he is obsessed with holding the spoon and when he gets it he bangs it on whatever he can and food goes flying everywhere. At that point DS1 starts laughing hysterically. Then when I try to get the spoon back from him, he cries. Poor little man. I think I'm going to use 2 spoons from now on. One for him and one for me.

angelhunter · 13/10/2006 04:17

Homsa I'm surprised your HV wasn't worried that your DD hadn't put on any weight in four weeks. But maybe my DD is a pig too, she just seams to have taken to solids really easily and has put on a kilo in the last month.
dds tooth is the same can only see a little bit but i can feel all her teeth so maybe now ones come the others will all follow quickly??

unmellow · 13/10/2006 14:27

Hello,

I've been lurking for a while but haven't posted as I didn't have anything valuable to contribute. But I must say, I've gained a lot of comfort from reading the thread, especially the recent discussion about sleeping and weaning.

My dd used to wake up once a night at 3 or 4. Then about a month ago, she started waking up 2 or 3 times a night. She was also still hungry after feeds. So I started weaning at 20 weeks thinking that this was going to sort out my problems. Wrong!! She slept better for a week and then went back to waking up 2 or 3 times, sometimes 4 times a nite. I felt guilty weaning her early just because I was sleep deprived and so I stopped after weaning for 3 weeks. Now I'm going to wait for another week (she turns 6 mths on the 21st) before starting again. I feel much better knowing that I'm not the only one with a lo that wakes up a few times a nite. Sorry for the long message.

littlepiggieneedssomesleep · 13/10/2006 14:32

Hello unmellow, ds was born on the 21st as well. He was born at 4.45am

unmellow · 13/10/2006 14:40

Hello littlepiggieneedssomesleep,

DD was born at 3 am. I'm interested to hear more about how you started weaning. I'm looking to try blw this time round. What did you start your ds on?

littlepiggieneedssomesleep · 13/10/2006 14:54

I was going to wait untill after 6 months, but ds had other ideas. I was eating a banana with himsat on my knee about 2 weeks ago, he got all giddy, dived forwards, grabbed banana with both hands and stuck it in his mouth. He did it a couple of times then got giddy at the sight of a banana and tries to eat it before its pealed.
He has done the same with mango, although only had it twice.

He has a rice cake while i eat toast in the morning, he looks pleased with himself, i think he thinks he is eating the same as us.

We are just adapting what we have so that he can eat it, last night we had potato wedges made with sweet potato, pulled a face untill i had a bite then gave it to him, he then scoffed 3 of them.

We are not going to start dairy or wheat yet as there are so many fruits and veg for him to try.

We give him breakfast before he gets dressed, tea about an hour before his bath then its not a problem that he ends up covered.

unmellow · 13/10/2006 16:34

I was going to try with soft cooked carrots but a banana sounds like a good idea. It doesn't require cooking (that suits me). How does your ds take to rice cakes? I wasn't sure about anything harder than cooked carrots 'cos I wasn't sure whether dd would be able to eat it.

littlepiggieneedssomesleep · 13/10/2006 17:03

today he had eaten one in the time it took dh to make his toast.
we have some organic ones that say from 7 months that we got from asda.

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 14/10/2006 00:33

i think I have chickened out of full on BLW. I don't think DP is particularly keen. Won't worry if she fances a bit of banana or carrot etc. will let her do it - but I think for the main part we shall be using the spoon.

Cracking open the baby rice tomorrow...

unmellow · 14/10/2006 11:51

I think rice cakes would be a great idea especially for when we're out and about.

Back to the other thing I'm struggling with at the moment: teething.

Can anyone recommend a teething remedy (preferably homeopathic) that would work with a 6-month old?

My dd is teething and she's been waking up a few times a nite for the past month. Last nite, she was up all nite whining.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

angelhunter · 15/10/2006 00:39

Hi unmellow
Don't know if this will help you or not but hear goes.
In New Zealand we can get a range of products called Naturo Pharm - all natural products and they put out a Teethmed Relief Spray, available from chemists over here.
It has helped with my DD.
Good luck and if not available in UK hopefully there's an alternative

WriggleyWitchesJiggle · 15/10/2006 02:22

Hello everyone.
In Tescos you can get 'Nelsons(?) granules' that work like a dream according to my SIL.

Just started weaning really (dd 6mths today, but she eays anything that is given to her - rice cakes, potato cubes, carrot sticks. In fact she's eating me out of house and home. She doesn't look willing to give up the b/f yet either.

Got 2 teeth and a third on its way I think.

WriggleyWitchesJiggle · 15/10/2006 02:23

eats!
