Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks for the suggestions. Miraculously dd slept from 12 am to 6.45 am this morning. I slept on the couch as I was tossing and turning till 2.30 am and that keeps dh up. I think I might banish myself to the couch again tonite .

Dd sleeps in our bed and dh managed to get her to go back to sleep by offering her the dummy

But I'm going to invest in some Nelson's granules or Boot's powder (suggested on another thread I posted on) when I go down to the pharmacy.

Wriggley, if I knew you were up as well, I would have got on MN to chat.

Ponka · 15/10/2006 22:23

Welcome Unmellow.

Erm. Got nothing to say really, except that .

Hello everyone. No news from the Ponkas, really. Weaning is a struggle. He's reallly not up for much but he's a happy and big fellow so I'm not too worried yet.

Homsa · 16/10/2006 09:35

Unmellow, we're also in the co-sleeping-and-dummy-camp, otherwise known as the path of least resistance

I don't know about homeopathic remedies, but Bongella really does work, I've tried it on mouth ulcers myself. It does need to be re-applied quite regularly though.

angelhunter, I guess my HV wasn't worried as DD looks very well and is evidently growing (head circumference was bang on track, and she has long grown out of her 3-6 months clothes). So she must have been using up her (plentyful) fat stores. I'm sure she'll get the hang of solids soon, but at the moment it's a struggle. Takes me half an hour to get an icecube's worth of solids into her, what with all the spitting and raspberry blowing that goes on!!!

unmellow · 16/10/2006 10:55

Cheers homsa. Although I'm quite exhausted as she's constantly feeding in the nite. When I slept on the couch on Sat nite, she was pacified by the dummy only and last nite we tried it again with me in bed. It didn't work as well. So, I'm thinking of having her in her own bed in our room so I could start getting a good nite's rest.

The problem is we don't have a cot. We have the Amby Nature Nest, it's like a hammock for babies and I'll have to have her in a sleeping bag. But it's still about 25 degrees in the room at nite 'cos we're in a flat right above a restaurant.

I'm worried she'll be too cold in her sleepsuit alone in the middle of the nite.

Does anyone else use a sleeping bag with their lo? And what tog are you using at the moment in this temperature?

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 16/10/2006 14:12

I guess we have started weaning. 10 days early but I am not worried.

Has had a little bit of baby rice for a couple of days (having been unable to convince DP with BLW).

She has just mauled a bread roll I was eating - followed by the banana. She had a good lick of the banana but nothing more. I think a bit of BLW will be happening when DPs out!!!

Ponka · 19/10/2006 08:24

My god has it been interesting in our house over the last few days. DS2 has taught himself to commando crawl on his belly. He can't sit up yet but he can speed around the house now. I left him in the lounge for one minute and he got himself into the hall to start chewing on DH's books! DS1 was never this active at this stage. I'm running around after him like crazy and DS1 is getting mad because all he wants to do is go up to him and grab his leg or steal his toys! Sibling rivalry begins here.

What are you all buying your little ones for Christmas? I was wondering about one of those activity tables but perhaps he'll soon grow out of that so may be a walker/ride on instead.

Back at work now, part time. It's weird.

isntbeingamummyyummy · 19/10/2006 09:31

Unmellow - I use a 2.5 tog with a sleepsuit underneath. The temp of his room is about 21 and it says to use a bodyvest with long arms but he was too cold in this so changed to sleep suit. Sleeps like a baby!!

sunnydevon · 19/10/2006 13:27

Hi, I can recommend the Vtech walker - I've removed the activity table and DD has been kicking/hitting the piano bit for awhile now (can then use the walker when shes older). It also has turning bits, an abc etc mode for older babies too and plays lots of tunes. My DD isn't intrested in crawling at all (doesn't like being on her belly for more than a minute), but is eating well and can sit up for a few minutes at a time and pull herself up from padding (if it's fairly high around her). I have tried a drop in creche 3-4 times now (staying with DD), and she isn't sure (the noise levels are loud for me) but loves their toys so I'm hoping will be ok when I go back to work. Will visit the health visitor later for a weigh in - wish I could just go in and not get the 'advice' which I've often founds contradicts what is working for me (last time I was made to feel guilty that my DD liked to eat but, after the feedback on here, perhaps this time they'll say it isn't enough - ever feel you can't win with HVs?).

unhallowed · 19/10/2006 13:47

Thanks mummyyummy. Sounds like it might be okay to start dd in her sleep bag then. It's only 1.5 togs. She's a sweaty baby though. aka unmellow

littlepiggieneedssomesleep · 20/10/2006 23:01

1.5 tog, its really cold here, ds is in a long sleve vest, sleepsuit, cardigan and blankets tonight. does not seem to sleep as well in grow bag but will try again soon.
He has one of those fleece baby gros, that seems to work better for him (use instead of cardigan)

littlepiggieneedssomesleep · 20/10/2006 23:02

meant to say to cold for 1.5.

unhallowed · 21/10/2006 06:47

Well, we are in London and in a flat above a restaurant. It's 25 degrees in the room and dd sleeps in a footless sleepsuit at the moment with summer blanket.

I tried her in a sleep bag a few weeks ago and she was sweating so much I had to take the sleep bag off.

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 23/10/2006 14:44

Am PMSL just had to post this.

DP has been teaching DD3 to make Indian noises by moving his hand over her mouth as she shouts. She is now sat on my lap thumping herself in the face trying to do it herself.

Sorry it may not sound too funny but I really am ROFL with no-one to tell.

tonton · 25/10/2006 14:32

how sweet pumpkin!

How is erveyone getting one with weaning? dd2 loves her mush but is drinking far less milk, nothing like the 20oz she is appraently meant to get once she is weaned. I could give her milky rice at every meal i suppose but that would rather miss the point of weaning wouldn't it?!

unhallowed · 25/10/2006 15:56

We're weaning quite slowly: partly because I'm dead lazy and dd is not keen on anything that isn't mixed with breastmilk except egg custard. She lurved her egg custard!!

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 25/10/2006 20:29

Only just started weaning in the last 7-10 days so we are not doing much really. Actually saw a HV (well health care assistant which nos nothing from past experience) today. When I told her she is 6 months (yesterday) she asked 'is she eating plenty?'. I thought 'here we go I am going to get a bollocking for not starting at 4 months...'. Instead I was pleasantly surpised by the 'thats really good...' comment.

She is a bit hit and miss with what she will eat. Won't touch anything that has got too much potato in, but loves carrot & cauli. It has not affected her milk intake yet, but she is only having the equivalent of 1-2oz of solids once a day at teh moment.

Spent 2 hours on Sunday trying to mush carrots thru a sieve. Made me want to try harder with BLW. She is not really interested in that either. I put 2 carrot batons on her tray a couple of days ago. When she realised they were there she stared at them for 5 mins before getting a bit miffed that they should be on her tray and started trying to push them off. She loves sucking bananas & apples though. She got rather excited by a plastic banana yesterday poor thing. Hows BLW going for you littlepiggie (and anyone else thats doin it properly)?

Oh and we have a tooth. Just appeared overnight, no fuss, no nothing. I can't believe it.

DebitheScot · 25/10/2006 20:46

Just back from 2 weeks in Scotland. We flew up which was a bit nervewracking but ds was absolutly fine. I don't think he realised anything unusual was up. Had a good holiday with the inlaws apart from one evening when ds screamed for 2 hours. Dh had had to go home (couldn'r take whole time off work) so I was a bit stressed and upset as he has never screamed like that before. Inlaws were great though and very helpful. We think it was because he had half a banana for his tea. My friend told me afterwards that bananas in evening is a bad idea as they're hard to digest. Anyone else heard this??

Took ds to get weighed today, 19lb 7oz at exactly 6 months old. Pretty happy with that as he's still on same curve on the graph. He's eating like a pig and I'm starting to think about slowly introducing things like wheat, meat, cheese etc. He had half an Oatibix (like weetabix but made with oats (obviously!)) mixed with formula milk for breakfast this morning, it kept him going for hours. Much better than the baby cereal.

angelhunter · 25/10/2006 21:29

we have a first tooth as well, came through on Saturday. solids still going ok apple and pear still a favourite but banana and sweet potato ok as well. Hates baby rice! will try more options this week maybe carrot or pumpkin

littlepiggie · 25/10/2006 22:35

BLW going great, today he has had
Toast with butter for breakfast
Banana
Good suck and chew on my chicken sandwitch (will no foods mine now)
Turkey burger (homemade) potatos and veg for tea.

Not been well though so weaning was put on hold for a few days, Has reflux and had to go into hospital for tests as he had brought some blood up. All seems ok now, got to go back in a couple of weeks.

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 25/10/2006 23:05

Bloody hell littlepiggie. I think he is a little piggie. You've only been going 3-4 weeks havn't you? I think I am definately doing something wrong.

(I didn't mean that in an offensive way BTW - I just wish someone could take DD3 away and do this bit for me. I hate the first couple of months of weaning).

littlepiggie · 25/10/2006 23:20

no offence taken

Dont know what gets eaten and what gets mushed and thrown on the floor, he seems to like food though, think it is becouse he sees us eating and feels part of the gang or something, dont know but its funny anyway.

Yes, started about 4 weeks ago but took about 10 days for him to get to grips with it, and som days are still hit and miss, bf are for food, and food is for play iyswim

unhallowed · 26/10/2006 10:13

Littlepiggie,

How far into weaning was it before you gave your ds rice cakes?

I'm not sure about dd as she's not even digesting mashed up carrots. It's going straight through her.

littlepiggie · 26/10/2006 16:43

It will do, you can see what ds had for tea the night before.
Rice cakes were one of the first, they go soft when they suck them.

colditz · 27/10/2006 10:25

unhallowed carrots are the devil for coming out just like they went in. Banana gives littlwe black threads in their poo.

ds2 cut his two front bottom teeth yesterday!

unhallowed · 27/10/2006 13:36

Thanks people! That's reassuring. I can't believe we're having a conversation about poos!

I gave dd a rice cake yesterday and she took a big bite out of it and nearly choked on it. That was a bit scary.
