I give Oatibix as ds2 really will not drink the milk, but Oatibix slurps the milk up, and as DTS says, will hold 5 oz of milk! Ds2 really enjoys it, but not entirely sure if it is recomended for babies.

Still, they are 8 months old, not 8 weeks, hopefully their kidneys have matured a bit more now.

baby is now crawling, poor thing is covered in Chickenpox scars, and seperation anxiety has well and truely taken a hold.

Mummy needs a poo, wah, wah, wah.
Mummy put me in my cot, wah, wah, waaahhhhh. Mummy gave me to my other parent, wah, wah, wah.
Mummy walked in and dared to stop and take offf her coat before picking me up, wah, wah, waaahhhhhh.

Bless him. DS1 didn't do this, so it is a shock to be clung to!

His routine is like this.

8am ish- gets up, drinks about 2 oz of milk, has 1 Oatibix with remainder of bottle.
11 am, has nap in pushchair while I take ds1 to playschool.
12pm, throws lunch on the floor, usually banana, or something on toast, or eggy bread. Sometimes will deign to lick fingers afterwards.
1:30pm, chews teat of a full bottle, milk consumed - 0 oz.
2pm, has nap in pushchair while I pick ds1 up from playschool.
3:30pm, a few sips of water.
5 pm (moved forward from 6 as kids were getting too knackered to eat) teatime. has whatever we are having and a large, adult sized yoghurt. (this to make up for the milk he refuses to drink)
6pm, bath, 4oz of milk.
7pm bed.

still wakes for milk in the night, but only for a quick 1/2 oz.

He weighs 9.2 kg.

crawls a little bit, then sceams in rage (toddler type scream, not baby scream) and collapses like a little squashed frog. V. comical.

He has 2 teeth at the front bottom.

I think his hair will be curly, as it is a lot coarser than ds1's was at that age. He still has an odd toe.

SlightlyMadSanta · 15/12/2006 23:42

PMSL - '1:30pm, chews teat of a full bottle, milk consumed - 0 oz'

SlightlyMadSanta · 15/12/2006 23:50

Thought I would just add - after checking Weetabix website (and baby cereals from my cupboard)

Weetabix - 0.3g Sodium per 100g
Baby Cereal - 0.15g Sodium per 100g (i.e. half whats in weetabix)
Oatibix - 0.2g Sodium per 100g (i.e. only a littl bit more than baby cereal)

Oatibix isn't that bad then & is better than weetabix...do you guys mix it with formula or cows milk?

colditz · 16/12/2006 08:28

I personally mix it with formula because ds2 hardly drinks any formul (4 oz this morning), but if it had been around for ds1, I'd have mixed it with anything going, because he was a guzzleguts.

DebitheScot · 16/12/2006 13:08

I started on oatibix rather than weetabix because he was less than 6 months at the time and then stuck with it because he likes it and I also found that they have less salt than weetabix. I was also more concerned about salt than sugar although I'm assuming that they can handle some salt now (she writes as ds is eating sausages which I'm sure are loaded with salt even though they do claim to be 'reduced salt' ones )
I really didn't see the point in buying baby cereal, bought a couple of boxes when he started having breakfast and they lasted about 3 days and cost about the same as 24 oatibix.

I mix it with 5oz cows milk which is heated to just about boiling first. Its amazing how much milk they suck up.

he also has readybrek sometimes

I'm relieved to see that mine isn't the only baby to go off milk, there is no way he would drink any during the day so I just don't bother trying any more.

sunnydevon · 16/12/2006 18:38

Thanks for follow-ups: I'm definitely going to look out for Oatibix next shop, the other ones are expensive & I know they have sugar so have been adding lots of organic fruit; which is ok, but leads to 5-6 dirty nappies through the day (& 2 wet). Is this about normal anyhow? Not sure I've been giving too much fruit and not enough carbs. Sometimes wonder if I'm overfeeding in general as my DDs middle is quite tubby and her wrists stick over her hands a bit - but then she has only just started to think about moving. Now stands (holding hands) for 2-3 min, but still not a clue about moving feet! No chance of crawling, although she is happy to lay face down on me while I lay on the floor and drag myself about. I'll be amazed when she rolls over for the first time as she hates being on her front so much that she isn't interested in rolling at all - with or without help (will see the HV next week and hope I don't get any comments about it!).

littlepiggie · 16/12/2006 19:25

Was going to keep quiet until scan, but now it has been brought up, i am 10 weeks pg with 2nd, not planned at all, and still bf, and it was only once! How the hell did that happen?

mellowchristmas · 16/12/2006 20:57

Congrats, littlepiggie. I'm .

pepperrabbitinapeartree · 17/12/2006 10:35

congratulations littlepiggie!

DebitheScot · 17/12/2006 13:44

Congratulations. There must be something in the water, think I'll keepo my legs well and truly crossed

NattyandThomasandBumpandSanta · 17/12/2006 21:34

congrats, happens to the best of us. all i can say is ignore all the comments sbout coping with 2 under 2... we will be fine!

on the food front..

upon waking (7-8) : 8oz formula
10.30am : ready brek(yeah i know sugar), or weatabix
12ish : offered 8oz formula often refused, dosnt often take more than 2oz
2pm : something on toast soldiers, mashed banna, jam, egg etc
5.30pm : dinner, 1-2 cubes of frozen savourys (meat and veg), followed by about half a jar of fruit purree
7pm : offered 8oz formula, usually takes 4ish

glad to see im not the only one concerned with how much he is eating, trying to vary his diet without much success.
he is getting about 20oz formula as i make up his breakfast with formula due to his allergies.
am finding it difficult as he cant have dairy, so yogarts, cheese, milk, and butter are out. most jars and packets too as they contain cows milk, its been a bit of a nightmare.
really hoping that weaning with the new baby will be more enjoyable, as i seem to spend all my time scrutinising the tiny TINY print on packets to check for dairy products. going to friends for dinner is a nightmare, for the same reason as alot of cooks use butter and/or milk in most meals.

anyone else have allergy problems?

tom is quite advanced for his age, he has been crawling for the last month, can pull himself up on furniture(and importantly get back down ) and will happily stand leaning against something for hours... however this means even putting the christmas tree on a table hasnt saved it as he has worked out how to climb on the toy chest next to it. my goodness me!

love to all

DebitheScot · 18/12/2006 10:28

Found another advantage of oatibix over weetabix that will help those babies who are only just getting enough milk. Oatibix soak up a lot more milk as I discovered this morning when I had 1 weetabix and 1 oatibix for breakfast (you can tell it's nearly Christmas, the cupboards are empty, good job we go to Scotland on Thurs).

Cameron has learned how to kneel. He is obsessed with the coffee table (with its nice sharp corners) and would spend all day kneeling up at it if he could. He'll also stand at it if we put him in a standing position first, hasn't quite mastered getting his feet out from under him to get from kneeling to standing himself. Still no crawling though but he is getting happier to spend longer and longer on his front.
He's slept through for the last 5 nights. 2 nights before that we decided to ignore him when he woke up crying in the night and thankfully it didn't take long for him to figure out he's not getting attention if and when he wakes up.

WhenPonkagotstuckupthechimney · 20/12/2006 08:16

Congrats to you, too, Littlepiggie!

I'm feeling very behind on the food front, too. DS is not very good at coping with solid and lumpy foods and doesn't seem to want too much. He hates porridge and oatibix. His day is roughly like this:

8ish - small pot of fruit and anything from 6-9oz milk
12ish - up to half a pot of savoury food (chicken/lamb/beef etc) and a yoghurt or something like. 6-9oz milk.
3:30ish - 6-9oz milk.
5:30ish - up to half a pot of mush (either meaty or just veg), few bits of what we are eating (tiny bits of brocoli or other veg or bits of rice) that get played with and dropped on the floor rather than eaten. half a pot of fruit sometimes.
7-7:30 - Whatever milk he wants up to 9oz. Can vary from just a few to the whole 9.
10 - 11 - Whatever milk he wants up to 9oz. Can vary from just a few to the whole 9.

Perhaps we are giving him too much milk and should reduce it so that he does eat more. We tried dropping the late bottle and he started consistently waking at 4 - 5 in the morning so I decided to carry on for a little while for selfish reasons

Regarding weetabix, DS1 had real problems with it in between ages 1 and 2. He developped toddler dihorrea (sorry, can't be bothered to check if spelling is right) and it took us ages to work out what the cause was. Turned out to be Weetabix. We gave him oatibix pretty much as soon as it came out and he's been fine!

mellowchristmas · 20/12/2006 10:26

I have to say dd is eating a lot more than everyone else's dd/ds. She is eating about 300ml of mushy rice with mince and veg stew or leek and potato soup with a slice of bread dunked in the soup.

If she's having rice, risotto or spuds, then she has about 180 to 200 ml portion. I got her weighed yesterday and she's only a little over 16 pounds. She's put on under two pounds in two months since she's been weaned!

I find it quite exhausting making sure she gets enough to eat as her appetite grows exponentially and she does not stop screaming till she's full.

NattyandThomasandBumpandSanta · 20/12/2006 11:20

bump, thanks anyway but have just won a maternity wedding dress on ebay for £18 quid! dont u love ebay! so with 2 bridemaids dresses in the sales for £15 each, this must be the cheapest wedding on the planet!

how is everyone today?

tom has had this dreadful cold for ages now, begining to get short tempered with him, (not intentionally) as preg exhasution is not helping!

littlepiggie · 20/12/2006 20:02

ds is turning into a bottomless pit,
soilid food on a normal day

Breackfast- 1 banana and up th 2 weetabix with cows milk

lunch- 1-2 slices of toast/bread with something like cream cheese or tuna, depends on what in the house, or home made soup over toast.

dinner- whatever we have, and a yogurt.

BLW going well, the only thing we spoon feed is weetabix and yogurt, way to messy.

littlepiggie · 20/12/2006 20:05

and still bf 5am, 9am, then every 2-3 hours untill bed at 7, then another at 10pm.

How did i find time to make another?

Homsa · 20/12/2006 21:35

Congratulations natty and littlepiggie! Rather you than me!

I'm at how much other babies are eating. Had dd weighed today and she hasn't put on any weight since last weigh-in 5 weeks ago. Bloody hell, it's not like I'm not trying!!! I seem to spend half the day trying to coax a few spoonfuls between her tightly closed lips! Here we go, today she had:

7am: bf
8am: Organix Apple and raspberry cereal - this is the only one she likes
9.30am: bf
12pm: Lentil and veg puree refused, but managed to get half a Petit Filous into her 3pm: Organix Apple and raspberry cereal, again!
4pm: bf
6pm: Pureed family dinner refused, had 1/2 a Petit Filous and 1/4 of a banana
7.30pm: bf

She weighs just over 16 pounds, head circ. and length are fine, there's nothing wrong with her digestion, she's just not eating!!!

On a positive note, she finally learnt to crawl yesterday! It's soo cute, she pulls her knees up under her tummy then kind of hobbles and bounces forward!

littlepiggie · 20/12/2006 22:43

Homsa, will se not have a go herself if you just dump it on her high chair?

NattyandThomasandBumpandSanta · 20/12/2006 23:55

what does everyone elses babes weigh now? tom is just over 17lb, he also just below 25 percentile.
have found some baby "ready meals" the powders that u mix with water/milk that dont have lactose in them. so i know have my emergancy feeds stocked up in the cuboard.. for those days in which i just dont have time!
off to get some oatabix tomorrow.. and get ready for xmas. presents to buy still (eek )

night all

N&T&B

CantWaitForTheSnow · 21/12/2006 00:55

Hello everyone
DD - 14th April
How much sleep at night? Used to be 12 hrs, since I started working again it is 11 hrs with two night feeds.
How much sleep during day (total): 1 hrs usually in 2 naps
'Favourite' food': Everything - literally everything!
Dislikes: Fustrated at not being able to walk or crawl yet.
What size clothes: 6-9mths
Latest behavioural 'obsession': Started to throw herself onto her front from sitting. 'ma ma ma, da da da, mammy' Loves to stand up, but hasn't worked out the consequenses of letting go yet - bump!

As far as food is concerned she is a bottomless pit. She enjoys normal 'chunky' food, but won't pick it up and feed herself. Breakfast today was a full cooked English breakfast .
She loves tearing off wrapping paper and hitting (sorry, 'stroking') the dogs.

Got 2 huge bottom teeth and 4 small top teeth, and by the unsettled night we are having at the moment, I think more will be appearing tomorrow.

angelhunter · 21/12/2006 03:20

dd is now pulling herself up to feet on anything available and walking along whatever she has pulled herself up on.
Today she has started climbing over everthing, nothing seams to stop her - by this rate she will be walking on her own by Christmas.
She weighs 7.19kg, sorry don't know what that is in pounds.
She eats like a horse -
for breakfast baby cereal with formula plus stewed apple
for lunch either stewed fruit, banana or leftovers from last nights tea
for dinner whatever we are having just chopped up a bit more or mashed depending on what it is
plus bf during the day and before bed, all this much easier now we hwve a highchair

mellowchristmas · 21/12/2006 10:52

Hi angelhunter,

It's reassuring that your dd is about the same weight as dd. My dd is 7.3 kg and that's 16 pounds 2 oz. thought I was doing something wrong.

sunnydevon · 21/12/2006 19:17

Hi CantWaitForTheSnow my DD is also frustrated at not being able to move yet & is a babbler too. She puts her arms up & babbles to get us to help her & points to what she wants(& we do help her so I know we're prob not helping). Part of me thinks it will be lovely when she can move, but then it's also great not to have to worry where she's off to - particularly as she looks interested in the fire/bins/the cat anything we'd like to keep her away from.

Teething started early for us (around 13 weeks), stopped after 17 weeks - with very little to show for it; odd teething days since & now she has a ridge top and bottom and few 'points' through, but can't imagine her with proper teeth yet.

Homsa I don't know if this will help, but have you tried eating right next to your DD & really enjoying it and pretending to be looking away until she seems really interested in what you're doing. Then show her your exagerated chewing - with mouth open - before giving her a try (then bouncing up and down excitedly if she does eat)? I know it may sound odd, but if my DD gets bored or isn't sure it normally helps if I act like a loony for another spoonful - or sometimes quite a bit more! However, from all the posts here it doesn't sound as if size stops babies from doing anything; my DD has been just below average in weight since birth, but plenty of smaller babies are doing more than her.

MerryChristmas

littlepiggie · 22/12/2006 19:44

will someone tell me what ds was doing on just his head and feet? Looked like an upside down V with him bum in the air!
