Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mellowandreadyforchristmas · 22/11/2006 16:56

Sorry to hear that , MS. That would have made me angry too.

I have to say my HVs and my GP are always contradicting each other too.

It could be HV's reponse was due to the fact that she hasn't seen dd3 before.

Ponka · 23/11/2006 14:08

Slightlymadscientist, I am and too having read your post. They really should get it together. Sorry she has lost so much weight. I guess it can only be a good thing that you are going back on Tuesday though.

Thanks pepper and SMS for your thoughts on DS2. Yesterday he was standing holding onto my coffee table. He pulled the safety corner off and then fell down and hit his head on the corner while I was getting DS1's playdough out for him. Now he has now got a little scab above his eye I feel like a bad mummy.

I don't tend to use our door bouncer much with DS2. I think I will try to use it more (but not when DS1 is around because he keeps trying to play swings with it!)

May be I should invest in one of those walker type activity centres. It seems so expensive for something that he won't be in for very long but it probably would be better than a chair because he can still be very upright. Perhaps I'll try to find a second hand one. Pepper, DS1 is sometimes way to rough with DS2 so I know where you are coming from.

SlightlyMadScientist · 23/11/2006 14:24

The more I think about it and talk to other people the more I know she should have been in hospital last week. I have also calculated that she lost about 10% of her body weight in 2 weeks. I thought she felt lighter - but I convinced myself I was imagining it.

I am not only sad and angry about this - I am actually quite upset.

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 23/11/2006 14:41

MS,

But surely the important thing is she's getting better? Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn here.

Ponka,
Don't feel bad. I think it happens to all of us. I let dd fall face down on the tiled floor while she was on the potty TWICE!!

Ponka · 23/11/2006 15:48

SMS, I think I would be upset and worried too. I understand how you feel completely but like Mellow says, she is getting better and that is all that matters. If you are still worried now, you could try going back to the doctors again but imho if the hv was really worried, wouldn't she have said more than "Can you make an appointment to see me next Tuesday" (nearly a week later)?

Keep us posted. I've never even met you and I find myself really worrying about you. Funny how Mumsnet does that to you.

SlightlyMadScientist · 23/11/2006 17:32

I'm OK really - you know how good MN is for letting you vent the things you can't in real life.

She is better now (just need to up feeds) - I know that - but I somehow feel bad for trusting docs - when I knew she was really poorly - I don't take them unless they are really bad. And to think I almost asked the wider MN audience for a 2nd opinion but thought I was stupid not to trust GP. It was one of the GPs that I REALLY trust(ed) with the kids too.

Anyway I'll shut up about it now. I will let you know how we go on Tues.

pepperrabbit · 23/11/2006 21:50

SMS so glad your DD is gettng better and sorry you've had such bad advice, it's appalling you have to wait nearly a week for an HV appt! At least she's getting well and hasn't had the trauma of a stay in hospital on top of it all? (I'm desperatly searching for a silver lining to make you feel better, though I'm going to stop before I make things worse )

On a completely different subject, it's our wedding anniversary today and DH has been waggling his eyebrows and smirking about an "early night". So why, you ask, is pepper on mumsnet??? Because he's been in the bathroom for over 30 minutes and I'm bored waiting!!!!!
What is doing in there????
Sigh.

pepperrabbit · 23/11/2006 21:52

Now he's making a sandwich for work tomorrow.

Lucky I've not changed into something skimpy. I'd freeze my butt off.
And it's currently a rather large butt.

SlightlyMadSanta · 25/11/2006 09:59

Did you get to bed pepper? Was it early enough?

pepperrabbit · 26/11/2006 22:05

Oh yes!
Can hang up skimpies for another year now.....

littlepiggie · 27/11/2006 19:21
Shock
DebitheScot · 27/11/2006 21:40

Was waiting all weekend to hear that news

mellowchristmas · 28/11/2006 16:54

at pepperrabbit's post

SlightlyMadSanta · 28/11/2006 21:15

Gained 6oz this week. HV v impressed. She has been drinking up to 35oz milk a day though.

Need to get her back on a decent amount of solids though as she is waking up at 5am for a feed and staying awake til 7ish when it is too late for me to go back to bed. She hasn't woke like that since she was about 10wks .

Pepper I am glad to see that you can get back in your skimpy 'outfits'. I certainly can't.

WhenPonkagotstuckupthechimney · 28/11/2006 21:33

Lol Pepperrabbit!

I'm so happy things are going better SMS.

It's slightly better here, too. DS2 has learnt to bend when he falls so he falls back onto his bottom rather than just falling backwards like a wooden post and hitting his head. I'm still running around like a mad woman trying to catch him though.

SlightlyMadSanta · 28/11/2006 22:03

Thats better too ponka. Just pad his nappy out to give him some extra bounce.

mellowchristmas · 28/11/2006 22:12

Glad to hear that madscientist.

pepperrabbit · 29/11/2006 11:51

Glad to hear DD is doing so much better SMS, I braved the clinic yesterday to have DS2 weighed and he's a whopping 20lb 3oz. HV started insisting I change him to a new car seat immediately, though I'm sure it's not compulsory?? Have to get DS1 a new one first so they can each move up one! DS1 is exactly 2 and a half and weighs less than 8 lbs more than DS2! I'll start getting their clothes mixed up soon....

SlightlyMadSanta · 29/11/2006 14:30

Pepper - ckeck the instructions for your carseat. If he exceeds the weight limit then he is no longer safe in it. DD3 doesn't have that problem yet. She is a mere 13lb11oz. She still has some 3-6m clothes which are too big (they are woolies which I think are generous sizes). She'll get there though.

littlepiggie · 29/11/2006 20:35

Ds has turned into a bum shuffler, but forgets that there are no cushons behind him and throws himself back, his poor head is getting a red patch. He is also using us to put himself up, so ot long and he will work out he can ues other things.

DebitheScot · 29/11/2006 20:42

I think all the smallest car seats (0+ I think) are the same, ours says its up to 13kg or 29lbs which is usually at least 12 months.
We have bought the next one (although had to actually get one that would have done from birth as it was the only one that fitted our car) but haven't got round to fitting it yet. Will definately use it for driving to Scotland at Christmas as DS is not amused at being in his seat for long journeys any more. Think its partly coz he can't really move his legs and coz he can't see anything much.
The woman in mothercare was stressing about us putting ds into the new one as she seemed to think he wasn't big enough even though he fitted with the minimum requirements (more than 9kg (he was 8.85kg, 19lb 7oz a month ago so I'm guessing he's more than 9kg now) and can sit up for more than 20 mins on his own)

Sounds like hv is getting unneccessarily worried pepper.

littlepiggie · 29/11/2006 21:15

We have the first class var seat that goes from birht to 4, is it goes from birth can you not put it backwards?
I think it is as much to do with strenth as weight, its over 9 months as a min becouse of this.
Maybe look at the safty stuff on the internet, but i would not take the risk and ds has been sitting since 5 months.

Missybaby · 30/11/2006 09:16

firstly, am v v at not having posted for ages. i go and introduce me and dd, get welcomed and then go quiet! sorry about that, suddenly got caught up in RL for a few weeks...

anyway the good news is that if you are reading this, then i've achieved my aim which was to post on this thread for weeks now!!!

so, how are your LOs doing now? SMS, is your LO all ok now?

my DD is standing up by herself and more or less jumping up and down at the playpen bars. i feel bad as it's like she's in a little cage. she's now at the stage where she's letting go and trying to stand alone. funnily enough, she then falls over and smashes her head... i cannot recall how many times she's hit her head. i am constantly worrying she's going to do her brain some damage.

as for weaning, i started protein this week. chicken casserole. i'm a veggie (i eat fish) but i tasted it and boy it tasted strong! obv that's because i'm a veggie but i can imagine DD finds the taste really strong too.

today i am going to cook her some cod and veg, then mash it. she's really not happy with food that's not pureed, although i can give her banana and cooked carrot as finger foods and she enjoys those.

Ponka, are the pasta shapes in the baby section in boots then? i've never seen them. been trying to get those (haven't we all ).

really look forward to hearing from all of you

DebitheScot · 30/11/2006 11:04

It is a lot to do with strength for the forward facing car seat. That's why the mothercare woman was saying it's not just about being able to sit unaided but being able to do it for a long time, ie minimum 20 mins. If they can do that it shows their neck is strong enough.
Yes you're right piggie we could use the new seat but face it backwards. That would make him a bit more comfy as he'd have a bit more leg room than he does now although he still wouldn't be happy (obviously though safety has to come first) I'm going to get him weighed again just before we go up and decide then. I'm pretty sure he'll be ok facing forwards but will decide for sure then.

SlightlyMadSanta · 30/11/2006 14:04

Hi MissyBaby

Yes DD3 is fine now. She has just got into some very bad habits (like waking at 5am or earlier!!!).

I have seen baby pasta (and sauce akin to Dolmio etc!!!)in Tescos. It is branded as beatrix potters Peter Rabbit or something like that. It is with all the jars of baby foods.

Hope this helps.
