Horrible teething day here combined with falling off a climbing frame and hitting his head about 20 times.

First night in big boy bed went ok. Up 2-3am but due to teething. Very random to see him standing at stair gate on his room.

Next question is what do you do travelling wise now? As he's not going to stay in a travel cot if he's not in a cot at home is he?

ValiumQueen · 16/05/2014 18:06

Pikz I have a blow up bed for travel. It looks like a dingy as it has raised sides. I always take a baby gate too. Mostly we camp though, in which case we just cover the floor in sims and all snuggle in, with the zips at the top of the doors. You could also take the side guard if it is removable. The foam things I have are fine for travel as fit any bed.

We have a ready bed for DD and I imagine S will get one too when we need another.

My DM is down to babysit for a wedding we're going to tomorrow, so DH and I are out for dinner and cinema like ak-schul adults!

Dear god the thought of Jonas not in his cot is terrifying!

He spent the day 'walking' the dog round the garden. He was holding her lead and basically having to go whichever way she wanted. He kept saying "good girl!" and acting like he was in charge. That game got me a load of washing and a dairy free and dairy supper cooked Smile .

Eeeeeeeeeeeeevenin.

What a glorious and sunny evening.

I am solo this evening (well, p is in bed) as DH is out on a night out. We have all been very under then weather not I am not sure he was all that up for it but he was pretty weary when I got home so I think it will do him good. And I am currently forcing myself to drink a glass of wine while watching telly just so that I stay up later that 8pm as frankly I would like to be in bed now.

I have been sleeping dreadfully the last week and having rotten anxiety dreams when I am sleeping. I look like the walking dead and keep having horrid sick feelings when I see people as I have dreamt I am fallen out with them!

Anyway, I am not sure if it is the heat in her room or being a bit poorly but p seems to have conked straight out. It has been 2 hours after bedtime when she has been finally falling asleep the last few nights. It just be catching up on her.

In other news we are weening her of her meds! She has not had an evening dose for weeks so is down to 10ml a day. The chemist said we could half the dose or do 1 full dose every second day. He suggested doing this for a few weeks then halving again. So today she was med free - I suppose we will see how she gets on tonight. We have also decided that this prescription of milk will be the last she gets.

eliza enjoy our date night and I was so pleased to read that things are going well for little E!

Pass Wine Wine Wine Wine Wine Wine on the meds! Yey there's hope for them all.

Well having worried yesterday we'd quarantined J for no reason..... Lo we have pox! We've been keeping him cool to limit spots (apparently their development is heat linked according to our pharmacist so the latest advice is don't wrap them up despite what grandparents say - hence our generation got hundreds of spots!) but in the bath tonight easily 50 popped up. He's very jolly now and back to himself. Am really chuffed to get this out of the way now - one less thing to worry about when DC2 appears. I don't think I could have handled nursing two simultaneous or back to back CP cases.... or a newborn with CP Sad

Report
Passmethecrisps · 16/05/2014 20:19

I am glad that the CP hasn't been too traumatic. You are right to be relieved that it is over now.

Ageing pussy update - she had her treatment yesterday. Came round from sedation fine and is happy as Larry. Now she just needs to zoom out all her radiations!

Pass I am a bit concerned about you. Is your eye ok now? You are sounding very run down. Could you be anaemic?

J has a couple of funny patches on his skin and I have been wondering if it is pox, but it seems more eczema like. I need to talk with nursery as that is usually diet related and we control what he eats home here.

I am in bed. Haven't had dinner as I would rather sleep, so goodnight all x

It's so quiet here....

yw glad no unnecessary quarantine. J has two teeny spots and I of course have stared panicking that he's going to get ill before the holiday a la dd a few years ago! Not helped by me coming home from swimming tonight and him being awake and crying in daddies arms. I asked him if he wanted to go back to bed, he nodded and cuddled in and he's quiet now....

vq you should have had dinner quickly then bed hut I hope you get some much needed sleep.

pass that was a long post. Hope they eye is OK like vq says. Glad to hear P is reducing meds. I wonder about J but don't see paed til October. We've had a few skin reactions through touching E when she's eaten something dairy related..... Piriton straight away.

I'm worried though about our holiday... Do I need to tell insurance that he has allergies? Do I inform airline about peanut one?

Report
YellowWellies · 16/05/2014 22:25

Flouncy I'd tell your insurer if the policy states that not declaring a condition would invalidate a claim? As for nuts on the plane I know if they know someone with a severe nut anaphylaxis is on a flight they wouldn't serve peanuts - something to do with the recirculating air / confined space. It depends how sensitive he is I guess? Confused

ValiumQueen · 17/05/2014 05:37

Morning Smile

J slept in his own bed until 5, so I am very pleased with that. Good boy J. I wish I was still in my bed though, I must admit.

Flouncy I would tell the airline and the insurance people. I would ask for an epipen again before you go, and ask for a written response if they say no, with reasons why, so you can sue them if anything happens, or at least threaten to. Your boy has a much more severe reaction than my J to dairy. His reactions only seem to be after ingesting, not via skin contact AFAIK. Plus the whole peanut thing. Usually folk only find out about that after anaphylaxis so get a pen. You found out through testing, but should still get a pen IMO.

ChasingDaisy · 17/05/2014 05:46

I'm interested in the peanut allergy talk. XP is allergic. I asked the GP whether I could have O tested but they told me to just try him and see Hmm I don't really want to risk an a severe reaction, so don't really know what to do.

Pikz · 17/05/2014 06:44

Chasing I'm in exactly the same boat. I'm allergic but they've just told me to give him some peanut butter and see.

StuntNun · 17/05/2014 07:42

Sorry I haven't caught up but wanted to give my two cents on the allergy talk. Allergies are highly hereditary so if there is a family history then it is something you need to be cautious of. My DH has an allergy to prawns and similar seafood (basically he can't eat anything that lives in the sea and has legs). Our approach for all three children is complete exclusion of peanuts and prawns etc. from their diets until the age of 5. Then we carefully introduced peanuts and prawns into their diets and continue to give them to them regularly. If your child has never eaten peanuts then they can't be allergic to them. An allergic reaction can only occur from the second exposure to the allergen. Continued exposure (in a non-allergic person) makes development of the allergy less likely, i.e. if you give the child peanuts at age 5 but they don't have them again for another five years then allergy is more likely than if they eat peanuts every so often. Snickers are a good way to give peanuts to a child, especially those mini ones you get in the Celebrations boxes. Maybe we're a little extreme about it but DH has significant problems with his allergy and he doesn't want his kids to be afflicted so that's why we put these precautions in place.

I was forgetting the 'second exposure' element, thank you Stunt for the reminder.

ValiumQueen · 17/05/2014 07:47

Although would a skin prick test count as the first exposure? And how come a skin prick test is used to identify allergies? Was it a skin prick test they used for J Flouncy?

Very sensible advice stunt

Advice required here. O is poorly. We don't do poorly too often here. He is not holding anything down. Even water. He had a great sleep and I just gave him some water this morning and it came back up. He has a slight temp that is all.

My plan is to put him back to bed mid morning as he is quite lethargic and if he doesn't t keep some toast ( he keeps asking. For toast so it seems he wants to eat ) and water down around lunch time to take him To out of hours. Does that seem reasonable?

Report
StuntNun · 17/05/2014 08:39

Wanda I'd wait a bit then try him with very small quantities of water e.g. 10ml every 10 minutes. Do you know anyone who has had a tummy bug lately?

The skin prick test doesn't count as exposure for food allergens VQ, the allergen would have to be ingested. The reason for skin prick testing is that a blood test only tests for antibodies to the antigen. While this is a useful test there are two problems: you can have antibodies to an allergen but not react to it; and you can still react to an allergen without having a positive blood test for antibodies. So blood tests are only useful in conjunction with other symptoms. For example I sneeze around cats and my blood test is positive for cat dander antibodies so the obvious diagnosis is cat allergy.

The skin prick tests will show whether there is a reaction to the allergen whether there are antibodies (IgE-mediated allergy) or not (non-IgE-mediated allergy). So it tends to be more useful in that if you're allergic to say nickel, you don't really need to know whether it's IgE or non-IgE-mediated, you just avoid it.

stunt's advice sounds good wanda. Fingers crossed he is better very soon.

Bless you vq! I could say the same about you mind you!! I was in bed at 9 and asleep by 9:30 last night and slept very well. Very brief wakings (me not p - she was sound) so I feel like a new woman

Report
ValiumQueen · 17/05/2014 09:08

Wanda I would only take him to OOH if he has not passed urine for over 12 hours, or another symptom like if his breathing is affected, rash, floppy etc. It sounds as if it is just a tummy bug. He will likely have the squits soon. If he has diarrhoea try him with dioralite. If not, then as said previously a syringe full of water or squash every 10 minutes will help. Has he got a fever?

Wandathewindfairy · 17/05/2014 09:11

Ok great. He has a slight temp, he is walking about and his nappy was wet this morning but not like it usually is in the morning. I have just changed him so I can monitor that now. He has just had a sip of water I I have tried some toast because he was so desperate, he has wolfed it down.

He has a slight rash on one side of his jaw and his neck but it is not really aggressive. Nothing on his torso.
