Am hoping it is just the first few months it will be like this. DH estimates 3-6 months to get through the backlog.
Steak normally comes with chips here too wanda but you could do dauphinoise potatoes or I found a good recipe for mashed spuds à la grand-mère recently which DH says is even better than his mum's mash (ha). Every French person I have told that I don't like mash has answered, without fail, "you haven't tried my mum's mash" convinced that I would love it. Never have as I hate purée. But I put myself on a mission to beat my MIL and finally succeeded this week. :)
Other than that I'd go for green beans parboiled or lightly steamed then fried up in butter, lardons, chopped shallots and garlic. And a nice simple green salad with a shallot vinegar dressing using a mix of walnut oil and olive oil. Sprinkle chopped walnuts over it for a nice effect, and/or add some fried lardons. Red wine, good bread, cheese and that would be your French steak meal. Voilà .
