Don't know if I'm on to something, but let Dom feed more frequently yesterday and he went from 7pm last night to 3am this morning then back to sleep again until 7.30am . He woke me up at 1am grunting, but found his thumb and farted a few times. I was just trying to work out whether I should feed him when I woke up again and it was 3 o'clock. Pretty knackering during the day as when he doesn't want feeding he wants to be entertained, but hey, at least I'm sleeping better at night.

Also, Dom seems more settled now he is pooing less. He seems to have settled to once a day, usually some time in the morning, tends to be a monster tho! Haven't received today's installment tho - I don't like it, it's too quiet.

Boobs not so leaky now, no need for breast pads anymore really, also don't wear bra at night anymore as found it less comfy, even with my huge bosom.

Hi all

Welcome Misty and Chester - Joshua was born on 14 July so similar age to your lo Chester.

Just caught up on all the messages - been at my parents for a couple of days. Me and Dh have the last 10 episodes of Lost to watch and we are going to try and watch them all on holiday next week so I am glad none of you have spoilt it by discussing the ending! Still can never decide if I would rather have Jack or Sawyer....any thoughts ladies??

KZ - so sorry for you - it must be awful for Roshi and you.

Koshka - thinking of you - hope you feel better soon and I echo the advice to try and get out if you can (I know that is easier said than done).

Poor DS has a cold - his first one - and is constantly snuffling like a pig. Just been to Boots to get some vapour rub stuff and nasal drops for him. Seems to be off his food as well.

My DH is also oblivious to DS sometimes and it is very infuriating. In fact he just shouted at him as DS was whinging and DH was trying to listen to something on telly - like DS is psychic or something???

mistypeaks · 28/09/2006 14:07

Sawyer sawyer sawyer!!! Jack nice to look at but really too far up his own bum-hole for my liking!!

nixnoo · 28/09/2006 14:48

Maewest, Sefton is on almost the exact cycle as your LO!!
getting chunks of 4 hours sleep - heaven!

hmmm, I think Jack and Sawyer are both incredibly cheesy - would have to go for Locke!!!!

I am self-employed, so no real maternity pay and we are feeling it.. hate being this stressed about money
ah well, cann always sell Sefton on e-bay? He is quite cute so I reckon I could get £15 000????
evil

lori21 · 28/09/2006 16:09

It is amazing how we get excited about 4 hours sleep. Someone asked me how my lo was sleeping at night. I said really well because I get one stretch of about 5 hours with maybe a 2 hour after that. When talking to other mums I feel really lucky!!!!

DS had his first cold last week. Me and DH were beside ourselves - proper paranoid first parents! He is still snuffly though but does this cute oooohhhh after he coughs or sneezes.

Kayzed - thinking of you. You are doing an amazing job coping with it all.

mistypeaks - your faff alert really made me smile I'll have to try it

Well better go - DS is calling!

chester30 · 28/09/2006 18:01

hello everyone,

am writing this one handed whilst b/f dd. does everyone else do this. i could do some serious shopping if i had a credit card next to me.....

nixnoo, i am self employed too and managed to get maternity allowance - £108 a week full rate for some people.

just curious but how long does everyone who is b/f intend to do it?
i am b/f fully with occasional top up of aptamil.

anyone who lives in london i recommend the baby changing room/ feeding room in peter jones. clean and a sectioned off area for feeding, oh and a bottle warmer thing.

hope everyone has had a good day. ches x

chester30 · 28/09/2006 18:03

my dd had a cold too - sounded like darth vader. hope yours is better soon

chester30 · 28/09/2006 18:10

another thought which might amuse you all. I am often woken up in the morning not by crying but by the sound of my dd filling her nappy - it sounds just like a squeezy tomato sauce bottle just as you get to the end of it.

lori21 · 28/09/2006 18:36

Me and my DH will sometimes be woken by the sound of our ds filling his nappy. We both lie there in hysterical laughter as it seems to go on forever and then even when it stops it will start again, sometimes three times!!!!! My mum could not believe the noise he makes so it is good to hear that he is not the only lo that is sooo rude .
I find pampers nappies realy are the best for soaking it up (sorry getting rather disgusting here). I do sometimes use Terry nappies as well and they are fine but need hanging out in the sunshine to remove the stains. Gosh I sound like a 1950's housewife!

PS sorry i have not welcomed all the newcomers - I still feel like one myself - so anyway welcome!

superblue · 28/09/2006 19:20

Me too!! And it does sound just like the end of a ketchup bottle!

When it happens, me and DH tend to look at each other and then start trading off things to decide who will go and change it!!

I have used Pampers since he was born and find them really good (Lori21 - terry nappies - I am impressed but I couldn't be bothered there is enough washing already!!) but he is outgrowing no 2 and my friend says the no3 ones are huge whereas the Huggies no 3 are a better size but not as good - what does everyone else use? How do you find them?

maewest · 28/09/2006 20:03

Ketchup bottle here too! Agree that it sometimes seems to go on and on, but apparently my son is happy to sit in his own filth for quite some time and I don't notice until I pick him up from his crib when he's whimpering slightly and there's a yellow patch on the back of his nightie/babygro . He hasn't pooed at all today, has felt like having an unexploded bomb in the house, hope he doesn't decide to do it in the middle of the night! We're using cloth nappies, but with laundry service, so get a nice clean bag of nappies every week and don't have to wash anything apart from the wraps occasionally. Have found that they leak occasionally, but so do disposables, and when it's really explosive poo, there ain't nothing that's gonna hold it

Kayzed, I am extremely in awe of your constant pumping, that must take some dedication - Rosh is obviously doing well on your gold top despite the reflux and other probs.

sunita123 · 28/09/2006 20:06

Evening all'
Welcome to all newcomers.

Chester30 - I am still bfing. Will try to until Kavya is 4mths. She has the odd FFeed now and again, only if I have not managed to exprees, and then she only takes it from DH.

DS likes to call LO Cat, coz when I swaddled her she looks like a little caterpiller. When asked if she's going to turn into a butterfly the answer is always yes so she gets called Pretty Butterfly too.

mistypeaks · 28/09/2006 22:27

Another mum to a ketchup bottle!! Always used pampers with dd1, but even poorer with dd2 so decided to give tescos own a try. Brilliant - They are virtually idential apart from the price tag!! Don't like huggies at all - really leaky and both babies seem really uncomfortable with them. Morrisons own brand may as well be made out of tissue paper!!
BTW expolsive poos are ALWAYS worse and leakier when they are in bouncy chairs - just beware!!! I have discovered this to my detriment with ds1 absolute nightmare when you have to wash the cover and they don't have their fave place to sit in!!!
On the bf thing - Can't help as I'm a total bf failure - congrats to you all - really admire you for it.

FirstAtForty · 29/09/2006 00:05

Am worried as Emma hasn?t pooed since Monday evening ? is this normal? Don?t know as she has been very regular (one or more per day) since she was born.

Think I may try formula for emergency feeds as I?ve tried to express a couple of times this week for when I?m going out but it?s been quite stressful - only been able to express a bare minimum feed to cover the time when I?m out, despite desperate pumping. (Kayzed ? beam some over . And hope things have been better with Rosh today xx)

Maewest, at ?the yellow patch? ? such an ominous sign isn?t it!!

Chester ? in my mind I have 6 months as a cutoff for BF ? that?s when she will go to nursery and will presumably also have some teeth. I do enjoy it on the whole though so will miss it I think.

Re nappies - I?ve used Pampers since she was born (plus some Huggies we got given as leftovers), she?s now up to size 2 and only has the occasional leak. Interesting to hear about the Tescos ones Mistypeaks as I was considering experimenting with Sainsburys, they are quite a bit cheaper. I didn?t like Huggies either, seemed to be the wrong shape for her. I did have good intentions about terry nappies but haven?t got around to organising them yet, still on my to do list?

Re Jack vs Sawyer, funny, I was wondering the same thing myself last night . Think I?d like the option of both, depending on what mood I was in?

Nighty night xx

maewest · 29/09/2006 00:55

firstatforty - glad I'm not the only one still up. DH woke me up coming to bed about and hour ago and now I can't sleep. Think I know why... MIL is coming tomorrow, can't help worrying. Repeat to self 'he's my baby and I know how to look after him' . Last time she visited DS was just 5 days old and I was crying within an hour of her coming thro the door (bloody hormones). DH has promised to back me up if any 'advice' is offered.

Must try and go back to sleep - see you in the morning ladies

superblue · 29/09/2006 07:59

Misty - I am also a bf failure so join the club. I read all the posts about bf and am envious as I really did want to do it but gave up after just 2 days as it just wasn't working. I sometimes wonder if I gave up too easily but I was really fed up with the midwives mauling my boobs constantly and DS was clearly starving hungry!

Maewest - I completely understand about MIL - I am on edge everytime mine has hold of DS!! Good luck with the visit - hope it isn't as bad as you think and at least you have DH's support.

Dh rant coming up - does anyone else's DH/DP think that looking after and playing with his child just involves sitting DS on the sofa with him watching telly??? Very good for DS's development I am sure!!

nixnoo · 29/09/2006 08:28

Hi all,

LOL at ketchup bottles... my boy only does a poo every 3 or 4 days, and they are silent (yet violent).

We were using the Moltex environmentally friendly disposable nappies, but due to budget have had to downgrade to Tescos and Boots (and live with the guilt). Boots ones are pretty good actually.

My DH made the mistake of asking me "what do you actually DO all day?" (because I hadn't cleaned the house), so I told him, and what I like to do now is keep him updated with occassional text messages if the baby is screeching etc eh he he he !

Newbies, add to our list:

  1. Usandbump southampton
  2. Koshka1984 Harrogate
  3. prettymum London
  4. kayzed North London
  5. agalch Scotland

HumphreysCorner · 29/09/2006 08:39

Morning ladies

Dropping DD1 at mum amd dad's then off to a mother and baby swimming class. It runs for the next 10 weeks and will help Sophie adapt to water Have had to buy a tiny cossie but still too big-bless.

I will breast feed until there are teeth I think then maybe express and use bottles so she will still get the milk. Still don't manage to express if I am feeding her all the time so should have some if she is taking bottles-

By the way-none of you are failures!!!!!!!!!!!

Sophie in Pampers size 2 which are a tad small but size 3 is enormous so squeezing her into those size 2's. Have tried Huggies but didn't like them last time and tried again (donated packet) and still not keen.

maewest-good luck on the MIL front. I have had to accept that my MIL will always annoy me and there is nothing I can do about it (well, not see her would help of course ) The yellow patch-tee hee. So true!

koshka-how are you hun?

kayzed-how's it hanging matey?

FirstatForty-Sophie is a once a week pooer if I'm lucky and still not much comes out. HV said it is completely normal and not every baby goes daily so no worries there.

Jack v Sawyer well actually, I think I have to add Sayeed to the list as I find him scrummy especially topless.

Anyway, must go so love to all.

xxx

HumphreysCorner · 29/09/2006 08:41

nixnoo-I recorded Sophie yelling on my mobile and sent DH it by text message.

maewest · 29/09/2006 08:44

ooh nixnoo - red rag to a bull! Try leaving him with the babe for a hour or so, with a list of household tasks, and see how he gets on

Dom has more blood tests this pm, hopefully last for a while. DH spoke to MIL on the phone last night...

MIL: Don't keep DS up until we arrive (after 9pm)
DH: er, we won't (in fact could have added that maewest & I will prob be in bed too at that time!)

mistypeaks · 29/09/2006 10:17

nixnoo - for your list - I'm in Essex, but originally Stafford so prob know the haunts of splat & janenevie. As for DH I left mine for ages with the 2 of them to go to tesco for something I 'forgot'!! Got stuck in 'traffic'(coffee shop!!). He now realises the trauma and is so much more helpful (still faffs tho!!). Its not deliberate - its just that we're all so brilliant at what we do they assume its easy.
re MIL don't get me started I think they're all the same. Mine is as useless as a chocolate fireguard. Hasn't had much to do with dd2 (birth present? A fabric ball. Nothing else forthcoming.) I know sounds materialistic but they've just bought 2 brand new fridges for the 2 of them in their new 1 bed bungalow!! Left her and FIL (who I love, but is 75 and not a well chappie but he does as much as he can with little ones - too much for him I think, but makes him really happy) alone with dds for 1 hour whilst dh and I were up on the roof of their garage fixing a leak. In that time she managed to give dd2 a bottle of 3 hour old milk!! She knows she has to use the bottles that need making up. She never offers help or advice even tho they live close. Is always saying about dd1 oh she's so funny and good i could watch her all day (then why don't you once in a while!!) Must stop now or am going straight to hell!!

nuria · 29/09/2006 10:46

Hi everybody! After chatting with lovely Kayzed in a reflux thread she introduced me to this club. My dd1 was born on the 27th of june (so almost a july baby )
We live in Richmond. I'm spanish so please forgive my AWFUL english!
First of all would like to express my 100% support to everybody that has problems with PIL. My husband is italian (sicilian) and that means you actually marry 100 people! There's always an aunt Rosetta or a granny Carmela with a very strong opinion about anything I do.... And don't think distance is helping...even the great grandmather has discovered the joys of skype. We have to swicth on the computer every single night at the same time(no matter if I'm running late with the feeding). We open skype and there they are, twenty heads on the screen shouting and crying and smiling! Poor dd gets alwasy quite scared about it all
Anyway, take care ladies!

koshka1984 · 29/09/2006 10:55

hi everyone,

jake is doing ok, for the last week or so he has been falling asleep at 9/10, then waking at 6/7. sometimes im very lucky and i have a cuddle with him and we both wake up an hour later.

he is very very ferociusly hungry when he wakes up, so usually he ends up with a lukewarm bottle!

jake does lots of big grunts in aa row when he poo-s although he has sometimes stopped doing that just so he can squidge in it i think!

does anyone elses LOs fart constantly? he will fart as soon as he is flat for about 10 minutes. at bed time when hes in his cot im p~ssing myself laughing while he trumps away - my mum accuses me they are so loud and adult-sounding!
