BTW when I said 'keep them awake during the evening' I didn't mean to shake them awake literally all evening from 5pm till you go to bed . Emma does usually doze on and off (between screaming for feeds and generally being grizzly), but if she does go into a heavy sleep for most of the evening I wake her up every couple of hours for a feed.

1st@40 and KZ, Toby did the same until tonight, typically, when he drank 1 oz of the EBM I did and promptly fell asleep and has now been out of it for half an hour, so will have to pour the other three ounces away! How annoying. Still at least he drank from the bottle, and Dh enjoyed giving him his bath and the bottle.

DH had to deploy shouting method to get DS1 to stay in his bed again tonight, he hates doing it and I hate hearng it but it is the fastest most effective method and he doesn't get up again after it. Are we very cruel parents for not participating in what he sees a tremendously fun game which is putting him back in bed over and over again? It would literally take hours and we have already spent about three over the last two nights trying it to no avail........

My DS sees me with my breast pump and says .... "Can I help Mummy?" and try to push the lever. He seems to think it is some sort of game.

hello everyone,

Jake went through last night without a feed!

He had one at 9pm, then went to bed at 10, then woke up at 2am as he couldnt breath well, then feel asleep in his bouncy chair till 7am!

wow! hope everyone is ok.

superblue · 19/09/2006 08:25

Morning everyone

Lol at all your 'breast pump' stories!

KZ - have you been to hospital yet about Roshi's feeding?

thankfully Joshua seems to have got his sleeping pattern back as he has slept through till 6am 2 nights in a row now - yippee!!

He has his 1st jabs on Monday and I am dreading it - any tips on how to make it less traumatic for him (and me)? Although he got 'jabbed' enough whilst in hospital with the cannula etc so maybe he won't flinch (wishful thinking!!)

Hoping to have a lovely peaceful day today as DH, who normally works from home, has gone to a meeting in Leeds for the day so it is just me and DS - lovely It is nice to have DH around all the time to help but I do feel I am missing out on bonding time with DS - is this selfish???

Twirl · 19/09/2006 08:26

Morning!
I asolutely love seeing all your pics, I must try and figure out how to get some up for you (when I have that ever elusive moment ).
KZ, I symapthise because we went through exactly the same with DD being scared of the dark just after DS was born and we stayed in her room with her till she fell asleep - DO NOT DO IT, IT WAS A NIGHTMARE!!! She wouldn't fall asleep as she was waiting for us to go and when we did try and creep out she would sit up and demand us back in the room. Tears and tantrums all round and didn't fall asleep until 11pm! I think because we totally changed how bedtime was done (we never normally stay with her till she falls asleep) we made the situation 10 times worse and it took a month to get back to normal . In the end we bought a nightlight for her room, a special teddy bear that would 'watch her while she was sleeping', left the hall light on and her bedroom door slightly open. She was very happy with this and we went in every 10 minutes (gradualy stopped this) to check she was ok. This worked for us.
Oh DS awake... back later xx

usandbump · 19/09/2006 09:12

Lovely pics Bloss

Well another bad night Zack went down at 8.30 and woke at 11.30, 1.30,3.30, 5.30 and 6.30

How are you doing Kbaby?

Got to go he is awake again!

HumphreysCorner · 19/09/2006 09:18

Morning ladies

DD1 has a boot with mice nightlight and we have a light on the landing outside her door that goes off on timer when she is well asleep so everybody is happy. Have got a Mothercare nightlight plugged in outside Sophie's room ready for when she goes in there.

DH came home and said did I want to go away for the weekend as a representative of his dad's company (his dad has semi retired so now down to DH to do official engagements). So I said as long as it is next year-no, it is in 4 weeks time! Like I'm going to leave a 16 week old baby overnight It was his parents idea that we go-stoopid people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meant to say, when MIL came on Sunday DD1 was asleep so when she woke up she was grouchy and kept saying Mummy,Mummy and MIL kept answering-what is it? Er, no, me Mummy you MIL-gggrrrhhh!!!

Right, must go. Sophie has 2nd lot of jabs this afternoon and as she is full of cold she might not be too well afterwards. She has been sick again, I lay her on the bed on DH's side while I get ready in a morning so he gets all the sick

Have a good day

Byee

Hi all,
Sefton went down at 8, had a dream feed at 11, then woke up at 1:30, 2:30 for an hour and 5
Going to the doctors for his TB innoculation today - I hate doing it to him, I feel so guilty!

He is such a wriggler.. I put him on his sheepskin under his baby gym (the one from Ikea: he LOVES it - makes him laugh), went into the kitchen and put bread in the toaster, came back and he was off the sheepskin, on the floor!

Kayzed, there are charities that take excess EBM for babies that need it, but clearly this is the kind of thing that not everyone is comfortable with.

Sheesh, the Jeremy Kyle show is an eye opener...
yesterday there was a 16 year old girl who was 5 months pregnant, I am sure when I was 16 I still wasn't that interested in boys!?!?

Ah well, happy Tuesdays all
x

usandbump · 19/09/2006 10:27

maybe its another growth spurt for our boys nixnoo? Thats what I'm telling myself anyway

nixnoo · 19/09/2006 11:11

mine must have a continual growth spurt

Hi ladies,

Sorry I haven't been around in a while. Still havent got a computer at home so having to use my mums.

I have been looking at your beautiful pictures with envy (I still dont know how to get them up myself, total technophob!)

It's funny how you imagine people to look a certain way and then you see pics and they are totally different (it throws you a bit).

Well Jasmine had her injections last week along with her developmental check. She was 9lbs 2, which puts her on the 2nd percentile. The doctor wasn't concerned tho as this s where she started.

However, I know of a little girl 4 days older then Jasmine, who was born weighing 4lbs 12 and is now well over the 10lb mark.

Breastfeeding is still going well (infact too well, she now refuses any formula milk at all). She is a great suckler and loves to lie in my arms just suckling, I love gazing at her like this, she looks so content. (tho dont know if I should really be encouraging her to comfort herself with my breast, am I building up trouble for later on?)

Sorry to hear that some of you have been going thro the mill recently. My thoughts are with you and I hope things sort themselves out.

Last night was a good night for sleep, Jasmine slept from 11 till 5:30, which was quite nice.

Well must go now. Hugs to you and your babes.

whitestar · 19/09/2006 11:34

Hi all,
Hope you and your los are well. I've just put Logans carry cot in the loft can't believe how quick he is growing!(10lb 13oz was 8lb 5oz born) Decided to put him in his big cot last wed as he kept waking himself up hitting his hands and feet on the sides. He has slepted like a dream since, 9.30 till 4am last night quick feed then back to sleep until 8am. I just hope it lasts after operation tomorow at least he won't be hitting his heels on anything.
Have to be at the hospital at 7.45 tomorow can't feed Logan after 7am and he won't be going to theatre till 10am don't know how I'm going to keep him calm as he likes to have 1st 2nd and 3rd breakfasts ( like a hobbit so my dd told me) Thank the lord for dummies!!! Should be able to come home in the evening as long as Logans feet don't bleed too much.
My sisters baby is due on sat I'm going to be an auntie!!! I'm getting nervous for her its her first and shes been told it's big. Her hubby was 13lb something born I'm expressing lots of milk so that if she needs me I'll be able to go. Her dh has already said that if she needs a section he's not going in so not sure how well he'll cope with it all.
Have a lovely day everyone and I'll let you know how everything goes towards the end of the week

HumphreysCorner · 19/09/2006 15:46

Afternoon ladies

whitestar-will be thinking of you all tomorrow.

Have just taken Sophie for her 2nd lot of jabs. They are now doing pneumonia jabs so that will be 5 lots of jabs in total She didn't get plasters this time and had bled all over-bless her. Had her weighed and is now 10lb 11oz at 12 weeks. DD1 weighed 10lb 12oz at 6 weeks!

Going to go and cuddle her so bye for now.

thinking of you whitestar xx

Ds is currently asleep in his car seat and has been for 2hrs!!! im sure it means im in for another bad night. The weekend wasnt too bad hes feeding around 8pm and then 1.30 ish then 4.30 ish although he has now started staying awake after the feed and i put him down only to pick him back up again where he promptly closes his eyes the minute hes in my arms and then i can put him back down. He also wakes at 6am so ive resorted to bringing him into bed with me so I can doze before dd wakes up.
Hes still grizzly and is just a grumpy baby. Hes just miserable unless hes asleep and in your arms, yesterday I held him for 12 hours with only a break for the loo and to take washing off the line and even then I had to endure screaming and crying.
I hope this all gets better soon because I could happily give him to someone else until he was 12 weeks old and more settled.
Iam blos- we moved DD 2.4 into a bed just after ds was born. We kept the routine exactly the same but now we cuddle in bed and read a story and pink ted asks her to cuddle him tight all night. Keep going with it. Just keep putting him back to bed each time.

maewest · 19/09/2006 17:56

Usandbump - do we have the same baby? Dom has got super hungry again, bedtime feed at 7pm after his bath then fed again at 10.30, 1.30, 4.00 and 7.00am - phew! Has been v sweet today and smiley, so think I can forgive him

Saw new hv today (transferred surgeries), really wish these people would read the f'ing notes sometimes. When I mentioned that he'd been feeding every 3 hrs at night last night she said 'oh, but that's normal for 3 wks', er he was 7 wks yesterday. Then she asked how the cat was adjusting to the baby...

me: well, she didn't think much of labour, but she's a bit more settled now
hv: oh, did you have a homebirth?
me: yes, just where you're sitting actually!

Oh & I decided a different approach with the expressing was needed. This morning after feeding Dom I got a sterile pot and did a bit of hand expressing - only got 20ml, but it's a start, put it in the freezer. Did feel a bit like that time I milked a goat tho (lol). Which reminds me (milk not goats), MIL is Visiting next weekend. She very kindly offered to babysit so that DH & I can go out for a meal. He explained gently that I consider 9pm a late night at the moment, and bf every 3 hrs leaves a fairly narrow margin ;), also that we don't even know if Dom will take a bottle (tho was cup fed in hosp). Shouldn't be mean, it was a nice thought.

maewest · 19/09/2006 18:01

also, I have just about got over the last Visit from MIL, 8 hrs on when Dom was 5 days old, me totally sleep deprived and unhappy, and the day before he was admitted to hosp with jaundice. MIL spent the whole visit giving me 'advice' about cooled boiled water and sleeping on his front - think I'm strong enough to cope now tho, shall just ignore with a serene smile on my face

HumphreysCorner · 19/09/2006 19:38

maewest-doubt v. much that you will be able to cope better with MIL and her 'advice'. Sophie 12 weeks and not any easier!

GOOD LUCK !

koshka1984 · 19/09/2006 20:54

DS has been really screamy this eve, gave him extra milk, wrapped up, gripe water. he was screaming, and he has never screamed. i was scared and he was boiling so i gave him half a 2.5ml measure of calpol. He is ok now a bit reastless but i cant move too quickly incase i make noise!

whitestar - good luck x

IamBlossom · 19/09/2006 20:55

God your MILs all sound like complete freakoids! HC cannot beleive yours answers when your daughter asks for her mummy. I'd explode if mine did that.

Where is Straightforward?

Good luck Whitestar, thinking of you...

DS1 only took 3 put back in beds tonight and did have his daytime sleep in there too, albeit after lunch instead of in the morning. Am looking forward to the night when he doesn't cry himself to sleep though....

Toby went from 8pm to 2am and then till 6am! Hurrah! Tried expressing again today, and got a measly three ounces - but discussed with DH and decided to introduce formula for last feed between 7-8pm - DS1 was on a mix of breast and bottle by now. Toby drank 9 ounces in one go, despite snacking on me pretty much all day! Makes you wonder why you bother, he must hav ebeen starving! Or just a greedy poker, wich might explain his 13.5 pounds at 6 weeks old....

JeanieG where are you? I have plateaued at 9 stone 13. Going swimming tomorrow, first time I have left Toby, nervous but looking forward to my swim.

Night all
