Sefton resists sleep during the day too, only drops off in the sling.

All your photos are gorgeous! Will try and get organised to do the same

concerned about you, Koshka.... you ok?

Hi ladies,

Have not posted for a while. Sorry, Hope everyone and all LO's are well.

Have been reading your posts re sleep through the night, but how long do they sleep through the day?

Kavya has been sleeping from 8pm until about 12.30am and then wakes up at 3am and then again at 5.30. Don't feel this is too bad but getting her to sleep during the day is near on impossible. The only way she will have a long nap is on her tummy!!!!. Don't like doing this. Help!!! Advise please!!!

usandbump · 12/09/2006 20:01

Hi Sunita Its good to hear from you I hope you and your LO are well. I think lots of us are going through the same thing with daytime naps, like I posted earlier I have to take Zack out in the pram and even then he sleeps 45 mins maximum. I think he gets alot of rest during the day at feed times, he is still breast-feeding every 2 hours during the day and dozes on and off throughout.

sunita123 · 12/09/2006 20:56

Thanx usandbump it's good to hear from someone who has a lo roughly the same age as Kavya.
It's juat that DS1 seemed to sleep very well during the day. He used to fall asleep in his buggy very easily too. Kavya just hasn't done this.
I started off with putting her to sleep in her cot - on her back and she would happily sleep for about two hours. Now she falls asleep on my chest and as soon as I put her down - on her back - she wakes up screaming. It's what I call the "everybody in the whole world has left me !!!" cry. If I put her down on her tummy, she'll sleep for a good hour or three.
What would you do????
Would you put her down on her tummy - against all advise - or try another position?
Have tried to swaddle her but don't like to do that in this current heat.

JeanieG · 12/09/2006 21:11

I hope this works.

These are just some random photos of the family.

Twirl · 12/09/2006 22:00

Hi everyone.
I have lost 2 massive posts so far this past week so will try for a third now but will probably forget what all the things I was going to say...
Koshka- lots of love to you. I'm looking at your thread now.
Sunita- a friend has a baby who will only sleep on their front and she uses a lambskin for him to sleep on on his front. There is probably lots of info on mn about this if you do a search.
What gorgeous babies you all have (and how slim you mums look !!!)
DS was weighed last week 15lbs 15oz at 10 weeks! At least I know the constant feeding is doing something. He also had his first lot of jabs (including the new one) so has been a bit out of sorts for a few days.
I can't believe how much housework etc some of you get done during the day! I'm amazed!
Off to watch lost now with a glass of wine....

koshka1984 · 12/09/2006 23:30

hey ladies thanks for your support.

going to the docs tomorrow to get some help.
have tried talking and am just going to leave myself to calm down for a couple of days. i am seeing one of my friends on sat so that should be nice, she also knows my DP so she might know something.

thank you again x

usandbump · 13/09/2006 07:47

Lovely photos Jeanie I love looking at everyones family

Sunita I probably wouldn't let Zack sleep on his tummy, I'd be watching him like a hawk all the time which would completely defeat the object as I still wouldn't get anything done! May aswell have been holding him or taking him out for a walk! Have you got a swing? There are a few of us with them and if they work they are great! Zack is sleeping in his right now

Twirl, I'm addicted to lost even though it is frustrating at times!

zack has his check up tomorrow and jabs I'm really worrying about it and just know I'm going to be a complete wimp. Dp is having to take the morning off work to come too. Plus zack is now in a really good routine and I have a feeling that his jabs are going to ruin this.

I'm so glad you are going to your GP Koshka and that you spoke to your Mum, at least she knows how you are feeling. xxx

agalch · 13/09/2006 08:40

Morning all

HC i'm also doing all babycare in this house. In his defence he is gone from 7am till 7pm and does work weekends too.He also does everything for dd1 when he is at home so he does his best(for a man anyway).

Whitestar lol @ the payback with dh's vasectomy. My dp is already saying he will put in for a weeks hols to recover.Jeez good job they don't have to have babies or breastfeed eh?

Gonna be a bad day here.My washing machine is on the blink(thank god for extended warrenties)again and they couldn't give me an am or pm slot so will be stuck in with both dd's.What a nightmare!!

anyway gotta go feed the dd's so have a good day ladies

kbaby · 13/09/2006 09:27

kayzed- I dont want to speak so soon but maybe take her to a cranial ostopath. This week DS doesnt seem to be suffering from wind and although hes still crying if put down he no longer brings his kness up, trashes about in pain. Ive started a dairy free diet today and having goats milk instead but it tastes awful, to see if that makes a diff to ds.

Iamblos- Its funny isnt it at night DS will normally go down as well(well sometimes)

usandbump- Ive seen all of Lost series 2 so im waiting for the 3rd one now.

Last night was our worst night. He fed at 8 then went through until 2.30 which was really good but then coughed and projectiled the milk everywhere so we had to clean him, then he didnt go back to sleep until 4am slept for 1 hr and woke again at 5. I brought him into bed but he was so restless I couldnt sleep anyway. So since 2.30am ive had 1hrs sleep oh and DD and the cats kept bloody waking us up aswell.
How does everyone cope with the tiredness? I feel constantly weepy and wiped out.

HumphreysCorner- I am constantly amazed at what you get upto during the days with 2 lo's how do you find the energy?

ok off now as ive left ds sleeping in his car seat because its given me 10 minutes of arm free time, I think i should get him now.

superblue · 13/09/2006 09:49

Morning everyone

Just had a look at all your photos - v cute and I am jealous about how good you all look. I am 3 stone overweight and cannot find the motivation to do anything about it - not bf doesn't help!

I would post some photos on of DS but I have no idea how to - advice??

DS is recovering v well after his op - he is feeding as he used to and hasn't vomited since Monday evening which is such a relief. Downside is that he is dirtying his nappies about 5 times more than he used to and is also screaming for food a lot which he stopped doing during his illness - on the plus side, he is much happier (when not hungry) and we are getting loads more smiles and coos from him which is lovely

Thanks for all your kind words - I am so glad we are through the other side.

I am having problems getting DS to sleep during the day aswell - he constantly fights it and whinges - when he does drop off (usually on my chest), the minute you move him, he wakes up and you are back to square one - he is still not sure about the swing yet - he sits quietly in it but I wouldn't say he is enjoying it yet as he always looks worried!

Anyway, off to the clinic to get him weighed to see exactly how much weight he lost during his illness.

X

nixnoo · 13/09/2006 10:01

Usandbump, we had the jabs yesterday
He had a bit of a cry but seemed OK after that, I think we moms suffer more!
Also a Lost fan, but do get a bit frustrated, they seem to be making it up as they go along!

kbaby, I am also permanently sleep deprived..... tthis morning when he woke at 5am for the 4th time, I fed him, then woke DH and asked him to take over, which he did. I managed to get another 2 hours sleep so that was good.

Since having Sefton I have noticed that my joints are really sore, sitting down and standing up gives me a sharp pain in my knees - it is awful. And then at 3am when I get up to feed him my whole body aches. Does anyone else get anything like this? My doctor looked unsure but thought it could be the pregnancy hormones which softened the ligaments?

Apparently doctors used to advise mothers to sleep their babies on their fronts! It is what my mother did with us... I thinkI would let my baby sleep on his front for a short period of time now that his neck is strong enough to lift his head, but he seems to love sleeping on his side anyway.

Off to have a shower and try feel more human again

maewest · 13/09/2006 10:01

Morning all - thanks for reassurance about a dummy, I know that if he spits it out its not what he wants, but sometimes he seems to want to suck to sleep (and my boobs can't take that all the time - ouch!).

Sleeping in the day - sometimes he will doze off after a feed, but find if I put him down flat on his back he wakes up fairly soon, possibly because he's still digesting his dinner . He's in the bouncy chair at the moment - I hypnotised him with the washing machine earlier and then bounced him off to sleep. He will also sleep in the sling (loves it) and buggy if he's sleepy and his bum is clean and dry. Sling seems to really help with wind, and also if he's not actually asleep, it calms him. Last night I woke DH at 1am to help settle him - 10 mins in the sling and he dozed off (then gave him the dummy when back in his basket to keep him asleep and he woke me at 4.30am and fed well). I try and time my outings at a time he needs to sleep as I would be using sling/buggy anyway.

nixnoo · 13/09/2006 10:17

Forgot to say, Maewest, that I am finding the dummy invaluable!
It calms him down, especially when he is upset and you can't whip a boob out: like after his jabs yesterday.
Like yours, he will spit it out if he doesn't fancy it!

kbaby · 13/09/2006 10:29

glad im not the only one having problems getting him to sleep in the day then or getting him to lay down. The baby books like you to think all babies should be going to sleep on their own.

As for lost youll all be just as confused by the last episode as you are now.

usandbump · 13/09/2006 11:15

I don't even bother with the books anymore I think they just do a good job of making you feel inadequate! My LO sleeps and feeds when he needs to and I'm just going along with it, I may well be making myself trouble for the future but at the mo I just want to enjoy him. So that means going for lots of walks to help him sleep On the plus side I have lost half a stone in the last couple of weeks which means I only have half a stone to go to reach my pre-pg weight although I would like to get another half a stone off after that. I also go to bed when he does, so I am in bed at 7/8 but it means I get 4-6 hours straight and then don't feel so bad if he wakes hourly the rest of the night. Dp is missing me but we do have the weekends and if I didn't get the sleep I would be awful company anyway
A typical night for us is asleep at 7.30 awake for a feed at 12.30 back down at 1 ish awake at 3.30 back down at 4 awake at 5.30 and awake again at 6.30. He is then up for an hour or so has a feed then I put him in his swing so that I can get ready. I have no idea if this is what I should expect of him at 8 weeks but if I look at the books and they say he should be waking less then I would get upset so I ain't looking

Wallace · 13/09/2006 11:25

My computer is playing up at the moment so I am trying to catch up quickly while at my mum's. Love all the photos.

Leo resists sleep during the day as weel. He will drop off if the pram is moving, but will wake up not long after it stops!

Wallace · 13/09/2006 11:39

Here is one of Leo yesterday in the garden - lovely weather at the mo

FirstAtForty · 13/09/2006 16:54

UsandBump ? Emma has her jabs tomorrow too. Not looking forward to it but I?m sure she will be fine ? like nixnoo said it is probably much more stressful for us than them!

Busy day today ? was up, dressed and out at the crack of dawn (9.00 ) Went to visit a nursery as apparently you have to get them booked in months in advance and Emma needs a place for January. It was very weird, seemed like a good nursery (like I?d know ) but when we went into the baby room it was a real shock ? don?t know what I was expecting if it wasn?t a roomful of babies and toddlers (there were about 12 of them I think) but I nearly burst into tears as ?orphanage? just sprang to mind! Had to control myself as the manager explained at length about their diet and activity policies etc. When I calmed down a bit I realised it wasn?t so bad, the babies all seemed quite happy. Will have to have a look on the Childcare threads as this seems to be quite a huge and emotive subject.

Sunita ? I?d let Emma sleep on her front for short periods if she really preferred it (generations of children did so, after all), but you have to feel happy about it yourself I think. It may be that she prefers it because the pressure on their stomach helps to soothe windy tummies ? somebody told me this is why they like leaning over your shoulder or hand to be burped. Don?t know if it?s true though!

Great pic Wallace ? he looks really laid back and happy!

prettymum · 13/09/2006 17:58

ds has become very settled and content over the last two weeks.

he is now happy to lie down by himself for a long period of time, and even though he is awake longer during the day, he is happy to look at everyone moving around and coos by himself.

dd keeps climbing into his cot and tries to play with him and ds loves it, even when shes rough, but i do stand nearby keeping an eye!!)

ds sleeps through the night waking once for a feed. finding everything much easier now, going toddler most days, started taking driving lessons again after failing test in april and its my first gym session tonight at eight. so everything looking good in my household.

kbaby · 14/09/2006 08:19

well sorry kayzed but ds wind is back, although hes not so angry with it.

another terrible night if not wiorse.
mil had him yesterday and said he was a dream and even slept alone in his pram but he just woul not settle last night, every time we tried to lay him down he would skirm and strain and kept farting eventually crying. we mustve tried thousands of times in the end he would only sleep on our chests but it meant we couldnt sleep. dh and i ended up taking it in 3hr shifts.
last night i wanted to take him to casualty and just say look at him this isnt bloody colic. oh and he proj vom again.
