Ladies, babies, and bumps, welcome to the new thread!

Should we start this off with an update from us all like last time? I thought that was nice, especially for those who get little chance to catch up.

OP posts:

Hey Guys!! I too ma getting excited about meeting you all (at last!)

Not sure what I've done with the Yahoo group though - apparently my emails are bouncing or some such thing! am sure it's user error on my part though! So not sure how to sort organising the meet ?

My home email is: Emma dot Hemming @ tesco dot net

Not sure how to get the other one to work!

Rodeo you have my mobile number too I think (Diege, are you any better at using yours yet!!?? )

Best go, want to watch X Factor & eat pizza!

B

Londoner · 30/09/2006 20:38

Hello, helloooooobaby is in bed after eating massive tea and dh bathed her and put her to bed, she is more fast asleep than in aaaaages. Thanks so much everyone for your support, you've helped me so much.

Have great weekends one and all! Mmm Brownie, hope you enjoyed your pizza, yum!

GarfieldsGirl · 01/10/2006 06:49

Good morning to you all, hope you are enjoying your weekends.

I'd like to ask a question about night terrors if thats OK.

Last night Owen woke screaming my name. I went into him, he was kneeling up, eyes wide open, pupils massive, he was really upset, screaming, shaking, clenched fists, gritted teeth, but very obviously still asleep. We went through 15 minutes f holding him, trying to calm him, going from 10 seconds of calm, then 20 seconds of the shaking, gritted teeth etc. He was being frightened by things like the colour of DPs clothes. Even after I managed to lay him back down it took a further 5 minutes or so to calm him down enough to 'sleep'. It left me very shaken, and I reluctantly returned to bed in tears.

  1. Was this a night terror?

  2. Did we do the right thing by not waking him?

  3. BEKs, I think, linked night terrors to growth spurts, but could it be related to the excitemnt of the day (his birthday, and 2 parties), or excessive party food?

  4. Will he rememebr anything about it?

Thanks xx

Londoner · 01/10/2006 21:01

Hi GG, poor you. Night terrors are really worrying I remember my sons having them at about the same age but not dd1. Remember finding it hard to stay calm as the panic is contagious isn't it? Never found a reason for it but seem to remember reading in (my bible through my first 6 years of parenting, now can't find it) my Penelope Leach baby & child book that this was a normal development and to try and stay calm but not to wake the child just stay with them to make sure they were safe until it had passed. Sorry not to be of more help, as you say, perhaps BEKs will have some more recent and helpful experience and advice for you. Remember thinking it was due to surges of hormones. This would run true with linking pregnacy dreams to hormone surges wouldn't it. Right, off to watch Jane Eyre....hope you have a better night tonight.

Rodeo · 02/10/2006 12:36

Morning

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
Londoner, well done with getting E off well on Sat night! How was it through the night? And was last night a similar success? (fingers crossed it was) And how was Jane Eyre? I watched the first part last week but they put it on the same time as Cracker last night, grrrr, so I'm hoping it'll be on ntl's 'on demand' so I can watch the final part one night this week.
GG, oh how horrid, poor you I'm sure you're right with your questions (that he'd had an exhausting day/he wouldn't remember it) Bella used to have them too (but not as bad as Owen's sounded) ad she'd never remember. Hope it didn't happen last night Loved X-factor! (starting to sound like a telly addict!) Although I'm always in tears during these knock out rounds
Joe had his appt with the consultant about his eyes this morning. He sees no need for any further appts and said quite simply "he's got one 'normal' eye and one 'abnormally good' eye" Doesn't have such a ring to it as 'SuperEye' does it
Taking Jess to soft play this afternoon so speak later x x x

Rodeo · 02/10/2006 12:52

Oh just let me tell you about my highly embarrassing moment from the weekend.....

We stopped off at some services yesterday afternoon, dp popped inside to get some crisps and drinks, and take children to the toilet and I thought I'd give Jess a yoghurt to keep her going til teatime. The yoghurts were in a bag in the boot so I got one out, put it to one side and slammed the boot. Unfortunately I'd placed the yoghurt to close to the closing boot lid and it caught the edge of it and it exploded! There was yoghurt all over me, our car, the floor and the soft-topped bloody Jaguar parked next to us. I COULD HAVE DIED!!! And everyone in the carpark turned round to look. The Shame.
I attempted to clean the Jag by using baby wipes, praying dp would come out of the services before the owner and praying the alarm wouldn't be set off (People were still watching at this point) Attempted a final 'polish' with my sleeve cuff but it looked bad. Was very relieved when dp finally came out, I couldn't have got out any quicker, I felt terrible. Maybe I should have owned up, but that's just not me - I'm such a coward!

Beksmum · 02/10/2006 14:40

Hello all

Rodeo pmsl at your services incident, you are just too funny for words, would love to have seen the jag owners face!!!

Londoner, glad to hear the others were able to give you good advice re the breastfeeding - I personally never made it past 3.5 months.

GG Poor Owen, it is very scary isn't it. We have found that Ben's appear to be linked to growth spurts but if he gets over tired this can set them off to. We do wake him, I know they say you shouldn't but I normally take him from his room to mine and cuddle him, yelling his name at the top of my voice. He always comes out of it alright and never remembers it in the morning. The problem with talking to them is that it can get into the dream which is why he was freaked out by your dp. Don't mention it to him in the morning and if he tells you about it just reassure him that it was only a dream and that your and your dp are always there no matter what - but tbh I'd be amazed if he remembers anything at all - Ben never does.

Will post a message about Tom's party on the yahoo site later - have a look and let me know what you think!

Right got to go as off to pick up my friends wedding dress this afternoon, will tell you all about that saga later.

Hope everyone is well Love to all Beks

Beksmum · 03/10/2006 15:10

Was it something I said?

Beksmum · 03/10/2006 16:22

Have you lot started a new thread? you can't get rid of me that easily you know

ChaCha · 03/10/2006 17:29

Hi everyone,

Hope mums and little ones are all doing well. What's all your latest then? Any of our babies reached the big '1' yet?

We had a terrific holiday, DS loved the sun, sand and sea and had a fab time on the beach and is now sporting a lovely little tan. I had a nice rest and enjoyed good food but am also glad to be back home. Flight both ways was great as he slept most of the journey, actually enjoyed plane food and movie as was in total peace!
Only thing that changed for LO was appetite, he didnt eat much at all but is thankfully back to his normal eating habits. He loves climbing the stairs, our gate is on way thankfully and is just so boisterous it's unbelievable - i am enjoying this stage though - tiring but provides many laughs and awww's of both 'cute' and the 'oh oh' kind.

That's about it for us. We have our 20 week scan on Friday - am excited about that as well as consultant and blood tests (first ones were never done!) so fingers crossed girls.

Look fwd to a catch up, keep us posted.

x

Beksmum · 03/10/2006 21:33

Hey Chacha good to see you back, glad you had a great holiday. Can't believe you are nearly 20 weeks already, wow doesn't time fly, bet you can't wait to sneak another peek at bump - are you going to find out what sex it is or are you keeping it a surprise?

Rodeo, I was just looking at the stats page and can't believe it's only a week till Jess is 1, have you got anything nice planned are are you just going with the flow?

Right I'm off to look for party bag stuff, speak to you all later Beks

Diege · 04/10/2006 10:07

Morning everyone . Haven't had much time to post in the last few days, but have been keeping up with postings. Was sniggering to myself about RODEO'S soft top incident yesterday on the train into work- got a few odd glances! Can't help on the night terrors GG, but do sympathise - think you've been given some great advice on here! Hopefully something that will soon pass, but makes nighttimes quite anxious I would imagine. Hi CHACHA!! Gosh where has the time gone!! Can't believe you're 20 weeks. Are you enjoying it all? Felt quite nostaligic this morning, as I went on maternity leave this day last year!!
Well feeling pretty shattered today, after teaching till 9 last night and not getting home until 11.20 . Taxi didn't turn up, blah, blah, so feeling mighty disgruntled this morning. Am aware that when I talk to people I seem to be moaning more and more, which irritates me, not to mention the other person I'm sure! Trying to turn it all into a positive by really focusing on getting a new job - plus, despite the difficulties, I do have some lovely students this year, who are a pleasure to teach! (oh sorry, to 'facilitate a learning environment'with )
Hope everyone is well, and I can't wait till Sunday - it's keeping me going!! BTW, dh is getting a bit 'twitchy' re: where we're going to be meeting.Any firm plans as yet?

Londoner · 04/10/2006 10:12

Hiya!

Heeeeeey, welcome back ChaCha, we missed you! Glad to hear you had such a great holiday, 20 weeks wow so exciting! E's b.day is on 29th so looking forward to that. Can't wait to hear all about your scan, when is it?

BEKs, thanks again for invite, lucky boys sounds like fun! So what do you put in a 1 year old's party bag then? A little dried cat food and general kitchen floor sweepings or tv remote perhaps.

Love to all.xxxx

Londoner · 04/10/2006 10:21

Hi Diege, crossed posts,

11.20? What? Good for you turning nightmare situation into positive action, seen anything else worth applying for yet?

Rodeo, how could I forget to mention your hilarious yoghurt hit and run post, so funny! What a toe-curler poor you!

E has gone from bad to worse in the clingy stakes and now screams when I try and put her in the highchair, it's a bit like trying to put 2 repelling magnets together lol. Anyone else with a clingon?

Diege · 04/10/2006 11:05

Hi LONDONER!!Yes, I have a cling-on too; I sort of like it as never really had it with the others!!
Oh question re: quinney zapp (NOVA???) Am bidding on one on e-bay at the mo (yes, when the going gets tough, the tough get shopping )and have suddenly remembered about my buggy board!! Anyone know if they can be attached?

LaylaandSethsmum · 04/10/2006 13:49

hi everyone,

LOL Rodeo at the jag incident can just imagine it!! Glad you got away before the people came back!
Diege, the standard buggy board doesn't fit onto the quinny buggies at all we discovered this after getting our Buzz!

GG, poor little Owen, Layla has periods of very similar things which we think are night terrors, the advice is not to wake them and just to ride it out although it is awful! He won't remeber anything about it either. One tip some recommend is that if hes having them regularly at the same time try waking him about 15 mins before, properly wake him up, offer a drink a cuddle then settle back to sleep and he will be in a different stage of sleep, a lot of people say this works in time and breaks the cycle of waking!

Good luck with your scan CHaCha can't believe your 20 wks already.

Have you got any birthday plans yet Nova/Rodeo? For our first little girls to turn one!

Seths stirring he's not too well full of cold high temp feeling v sorry for himself! Best find the calpol. xx

browniechick · 04/10/2006 19:53

Hello All!
Not long till the meet up guys!!! So, is it Diege, Rodeo, Beks and us?

What sort of time might everyone arrive?

Need to pick a central, well signposted meeting spot! As am assuming that noone has been here that often before?
If we can sort out a time, I will email meeting spots via home emails if that's ok?
Am thinking soemwhere by the river....there are lots of carparks around too, (all of which are signposted)

Just a quick one for the mo - will catch up more later, as have lots to get sorted for FIL's party on Saturday!!!

Brownie
xx

Rodeo · 04/10/2006 21:53

Evening!
Computer's being mega slow tonight so I'll make this brief(ish) before it cuts me off!
Welcome back Chacha! Glad you had a lovely time, sounds wonderful It seems like you've been away for ages!! Ooh keep us posted with scan news! How exciting! Will log on friday evening especially!
Diege, 11.30?! After a whole day at work you must have been shattered! Don't think you can put a buggy board on the Zapp, but you need to add it to your buggy collection so just get it anyway A buggy for 'mum & baby only' days!
Londoner, Jess is quite clingy to me but not to E's highchair phobia extreme - poor you! Hope your arm muscles aren't too strained, have you a sling you could use round the house? Me & Diege bought some lovely cheap ones off ebay not long ago (although I'm ashamed to say I've never used it and have misplaced it somewhere around the house )
L&Ssmum, sorry to hear Seth's poorly, hope he gets better soon!
Jessie's birthday is next Tuesday! I've said I'll take a few fairy cakes to Toddler group. Poor third child - Bella had a proper 1st birthday party, Joe got a small family get together on his 1st birthday and Jess gets 'a few fairy cakes at Toddler group'
Brownie/Beks/Diege, looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday, fingers crossed for nice weather Maybe we'll turn them into yearly events - The London Meet and The Stratford Meet!
Love to everyone else, going to go, keyboard is driving me mad - the y & u keys keep sticking! yyyyyyyyy!
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!
Bye! x x x

Diege · 04/10/2006 22:38

Evening! Off to bed now (well, after the damn bottles!!!) so just a quick one.BROWNIE, yes, arrangements via e-mail sound good. Think my phone is working now, though still haven't mastered texting!!! lol RODEO at the slings; hmmm, mine didn't get much use, seemed really big, though I had ordered the extra-small; must be my tiny frame . Well, succombed to the zapp, and YES, there is a buggy board that will fit it apparently, so all is well ; so of course now I need one of those fancy attachable wedge shopper bag thingies to strap on the back of it, to put my other purchases in . I've sold another buggy which will (partially) fund this new one, though dh thinks I got it for a lot less, poor lamb .
Not sure what the forcast is like for Sunday, but I'm sure it will be great wherever we meet. Think we will probably arrive 11ish?? , but really just a guesimate at the moment! dh thinks a couple of hours tops, so should be easily doable seeing as we're usually up at 6
Right, bottles then bed. Late(ish) finish again tommorrow in my family-friendly job!!

novadandypowder · 05/10/2006 10:27

Hi, hi, I don't come on much at the mo as I'd rather be sleeping .

Having traumatic time settling noo at nursery, we both have really bad separation anxiety and she has started waking at night again due to the change in routine. So back to co-sleeping at the mo, which means I get no real rest at night . I know it will be worth it in the long run but it's very hard to leave a screaming child especially when emotional and pg. It really got to me on monday and I was crying more than noo .

Any hoo, DH and I are taking noo out for lunch with the grandparents for her birthday, which should be lovely.

Diege, can't believe you went for the Zapp, what colour did you get?

Rodeo, as a past soft top jag owner found your story very amusing

Chacha, glad you had a lovely holiday. Dh is taking 2 weeks off from next week, but thats so we can start making the study into noo's bedroom, and lordy knows where the stuff from the study is going to go. Still owe my friend a long weekend though after cancelling NY so may be able to get a spa break in before xmas.

Beks, thanks for the invite, hope the party goes well. Saw a recipe for mulled blackcurrant in a mag feature about halloween parties, so will be supping some of that now the nights are drawing in.

Righto, must go and get some sleep before I have to pick noo up...

Rodeo · 05/10/2006 12:01

Hi Nova
Oh, this settling in business is so tough! I have it with Joe at the moment but at least I can reason with him and he knows I'll be back to collect him. Not easy with a baby, 11-12 months is a hard time for change, but there must be a time when it clicks with her and nursery becomes familiar to her and part of her day. Hope it's soon
Diege, what are these 'fancy wedge shopper thingies'? You must show me! Yes what colour did you get? Jess fits in hers loads better now, now her bottom's got bigger! Hope your late night isn't as bad as Monday's, I expect your dreading it Just keep thinking of the nice early night yo can have tomorrow night.
It's such a dreary rainy day up here, and I have no plans for today. Apart from shed loads of washing, especially as I left a load in the machine and now it's gone a bit whiffy, urgh....
Think I get that Seasonal Affective Disorder mildly, I'm already thinking of next years holidays! I'm trying to pin dp down to a weekend away soon and I'm wistfully looking on flight and holiday websites [sigh]
But I am looking forward to Sunday! And there's Christas to start looking forward to as well - only 11-12 weeks to go you know!

Diege · 05/10/2006 13:39

Hi everyone Good to hear from you NOVA, and hope the nursery situation sorts itself out soon. Are you able to give them a call say 10 mins after you leave noo there to check up on her? Bet she's fine, though as you say it will probably take some time. Read somewhere that if you don't get them in within 5 months, they all take a bit of time settling apparently, but then again it's 'better' for them to be at home for first 6 months, so they say??
Re: the zapp, I went for boring old black in the end, though was nearly seduced by the hot pink . I think the black was a reaction to bright buggy overkill for me, with my lime green amd multi-coloued lulu guiness maclaren, and the red jane. All 3 dds tend to wear really bright colours, so wanting a sleeker look iyswim!!! (any excuse to get a new one!). Oh and RODEO the wedge thingy is a 'universal shopper bag designed by someone to strap on back of zapp; they also do a basket for underneath ; quite where it's supposed to fit I'm not sure!
Right, am off to do my teaching sessions, starting at 2. Feeling a bit nervous actually, which isn't really like me, so finger crossed it goes OK!
Speak later!

novadandypowder · 05/10/2006 17:11

Thanks Diege and Rodeo, she's already getting better - lots of tears when I leave, but today she joined in with the play dough session and is getting a bit braver to not need constant attention from the carers. I get to watch her for a bit when I go to pick her up, before she can see me, and she's fine then. She has already picked up a lurgy though! She's all snotty and coughy.

GarfieldsGirl · 05/10/2006 20:00

Hi everyone, have been keeping up with you all, just haven't had a chance to post for a few days. Thats not like me!

Firstly, Thank You to you all for your advice & info on night terrors. I'm hoping that it was the excitment of the day as it hasn't happened since. But yes, very frightening, I just wanted to climb in with him and keep him safe.

I'll try and remember everything, apologies to anyone I miss.

ChaCha, wow! half way there already! Bet you're excited about your scan tomorrow. Hope the consultant appt is OK, whats the reason for it (if thats not being too nosey?). Sounds like you had a fab time away and its done you the world of good.

Rodeo, he he, snigger, snigger, at your jag incident, the pictures I have in my head of you rubbing the roof with your sleeve!!!

Diege, are you looking for something similar to your current job? Hope something better comes up soon for you. I looked at one of those hot pink zapps a while back, but there's no way DP would let me ut Sean in a pink pushchair!

BEKs, thanks for the invite, unfortunately I'm going to have to say no.

Londoner, I also have a clingon! The arched back, limbs splayed like a cat trying to not be put in a basket, something like that with the highchair?!? He tends to get worse in the evening.

Nova, it is very hard seperating from LOs isn't it? From your last post it sounds like Noo's getting better. It makes it so much easier for you when she goes off easily. I remember walking back from nursery in floods of tears myself on a few occasions.

Have a fab time on Sunday those of you meeting i Stratford.

Bye from me for now. xx

Londoner · 06/10/2006 07:52

GG, lol at your description of clingon baby, so funny!
Nova, sounds awful, hope things settle down soon at nursery and N's cold goes quickly.
Diege, good luck today, bet you'll be great.. you'll slip back into it with ease like riding a bike... Lol at you and your stash of pushchairs, Where d'you keep them all you crazy lady?
ChaCha, are your scan and blood tests today? Oooh, so exciting!
Rodeo, aww, cakes at toddler group sounds so lovely, bet she'll be really pleased.
BEKs, how are the party plans going? Oh, and how's the extension going?
Tessa, is your extension finished now? Updates please girls. Did you say Ash is walking btw? Wow!
Well, count down to b.days here aswell. DD1 on 12th, DS2 on 16th and E on 29th. Took kids and 1 friend to Chessington on Sunday and it was so brilliant, despite sporadic torrential outbreaks of rain and thunder and lightening, what fun!
