Ladies, babies, and bumps, welcome to the new thread!

Should we start this off with an update from us all like last time? I thought that was nice, especially for those who get little chance to catch up.

OP posts:

GarfieldsGirl · 26/09/2006 07:46

You were up late last night Diege.

How did it go yesterday Rodeo?

Chully, we have 32 invited to Owens party . What am I letting myself in for? Although I still have had no reply from 7, so my phone will NOT be answered after Thurs. The party is in the village hall, so no worry about my house getting wrecked!

I think I'm going to have to get some shoes, for the same reason as you Rodeo & Diege. Socks just don't stay on anymore. I was hoping to hold off until winter.

He's now finding things to put i front of the sofa, and then uses that to climb up, runs along, throws himself into the corner giggling away!

Diege, awwww at L making car noises etc, very cute.

Diege · 26/09/2006 12:50

Yes, I have the eye bags to show for it Aww GG, your LO sounds so cute with his giggling and climbing Good luck with the party - I think whatever venue you choose (home or away) you end up with some panic somewhere along the line! We had 10 parents just not bother replying, which cost us a bit as had prebooked meals, but hey we've learnt our lesson for next year .
Not much to report here, just answering constant e-mails from very anxious students!!

GarfieldsGirl · 26/09/2006 13:39

It is really annoying isn't it when they don't reply. And I haven't got the cost of meals, soft play etc to factor in.

We got those shoes. A size 5F!!!!! . I knew he had long feet, but I wasn't expecting that! He can walk around outside now, but looks so clumsy, lifting his feet up really high bless him!

tessasmum · 26/09/2006 15:58

Hello everyone, we are back and in one piece though Ash is sporting his usual array of facial bruises
Had a wonderful time and great weather.

Will catch up as soon as I can but did pick up your news Rodeo. Hope appointment went well and that other things arew sorting themselves out a bit. Glad DP is taking care of you.

Talk later.

tessasmum · 26/09/2006 16:01

Londoner - Tessa got a pushalong bricktruck for her first Christmas (at 10mths) and LOVED it. If anything Ash loves it even more!

Rodeo · 26/09/2006 22:06

Evening
A mini post from me again as it's the Lost finale!
Appt went fine yesterday, have the same troubles as I had last year (if anybody can remember?) so am on antibiotics. The nurse has a look, then called for the doctor, who is lovely (lovely looking Cypriot too) who exclaimed 'We must stop meeting like this!' while snapping on his rubber gloves So it was pretty cringeworthy but I am relieved!
L&S, oooh back to work - it'll be fine! Hopefully have a morning wander round town before you go back
Diege, Awww little car noises! They seem to learn something new every few days at this age! Jess went to walk away from the sofa today but just splatted on the floor - getting a bit over confident I think!
GG - 5f! Awww, my sister first size was a 5 too and her feet are massive! She'll kill me for saying that - lets hope she's not lurking
Hi Tessa! Good to her from you too
Right will defo catch up more tomorrow, Love to all x x x

Diege · 27/09/2006 08:22

Good to hear from you RODEO . You must be very relieved, though ] at dr's 'bedside manner'!!!How are things with your dad? Hi GG, wow, very impressed with 5F!! What are you feeding him . Good to hear from you TESSA; looking forward to hearing about it all - glad you had such a good time .
Right, off for the school run,
Speak later

GarfieldsGirl · 27/09/2006 11:39

Good news Rodeo .

Looking forward to hearing all about your time away Tessasmum.

Great news here, DP has been discharged! They did offer him more ops to try to straighten out the twist, but as he'd still be in pain, and would run a higher risk of infection etc each time he's opened up, and it could take several attempts he turned it down. So, he can get back to work properly now instead of being dumped in the office.

Rodeo · 27/09/2006 11:58

Morning!
Ooh yes! The Circus camp Tessa! Looking forward to hearing more, maybe vwe could have some pics too? Please!!
Good news on dp GG, so lots of money just in time for Christmas!
Diege, Dad's back at home now, doing nothing (well, that better be the case - will check up on him in a minute!) He had to pass a treadmill test which he did, but he did start to 'feel' it in his chest so I think he realises now how fragile it is at the moment. He has a cardiac nurse coming to see him at home for the next fortnight so she'll be keeping tabs on him too!
I've spent the morning at the Infants counting Yellow Moon catalogues into class numbers and sticking code stickers on them (all 370 of them) so I'm in need of a cup of tea. Especially as I didn't get to sleep til 1ish last night as there was a huge spider on the loose that managed to escape being caught from dp. I couldn't have any body part exposed for fear of being walked on but it was so warm I was sweltering! Ooh and I 'finalised' my Next order last night so need to ring that through Speak later x

GarfieldsGirl · 27/09/2006 12:05

Hi Rodeo, forget Christmas, got all 4 birthdays first!

Good news that your dads home. Enjoy your cup of tea, sounds like you need it after all those!

Diege · 27/09/2006 12:59

Like the way you slipped that shopping reference in there RODEO . Glad to hear your dad is looking after himself; it takes some adjusting to after a shock like that (for everyone!)Hi GG! Great news there too, must be a huge reliefe for you all
Haven't heard from LONDONER or BOB for a while - are you OK ladies???

01kiwicath · 27/09/2006 19:36

Evening all....

Hope you're having a good night/week.
I was having a lovely week, very busy but all was good until feeling like a truck hit me, getting a really bad headcold, so about to jump into bed with a bed and ask hubby to clean the place up, I really feel like I need a good nights sleep....hey who doesn't I hear you all say!!!

Anyway will check in next week (we're going to Brussles for long wkd!!! Can't wait!) for the possible park meet up Beks....
Take care

browniechick · 27/09/2006 20:36

Hello All! Great news on both your Dad and also your Drs appt Rodeo - was thinking of you, but no chance to post for a couple of days - sorry!
Gosh GG - a size 5F!!! Thomas has such small feet at a 2½, but am sure they'll grow! (or maybe he'll may up for it in other areas, hey girls !!)
Anyway, guess we need to start thinking about details of meet up....how many defs have we got? Me (obv!!), Rodeo, Diege, Beks....Anymore?

Brownies was fab last night - felt really positive when I got home! 3 new girls started, so we only have 2 spaces now, and we are full again!!!! Hooray!!

Thomas is really grisly at the moment - very snotty nose, and loads of dribble and teeth coming through, poor lamb his sleep is disturbed too, hence we are often up at around 5am now - and I am NOT a morning person!!!! Oh well, he is gorgeous!

Nipping off now to trawl the interweb! (Rodeo, there is a fabulooos red embroidered gilet jacket in Next at the moment - have you seen it? I have asked Father Christmas for it, as I think I must have it!!!! )
Catch up later....love to all not mentioned!

novadandypowder · 27/09/2006 21:25

sorry, only had a chance to skim as busy with noo and having killer headaches that keep me away from the PC.

Settling in at nursery is harder than I thought, noo not impressed so far.

found a great soft play centre locally where we spend a lot of time.

Noo is standing very well now, and I think she looks very cute when she does it.

Glad things are on the up Rodeo.

Brownie, perhaps a pic of your tattoo?

Londoner · 28/09/2006 09:51

Hello all,

Sorry not been on, mad hectic, kids still battling away with coughs/colds/secondary infections and viewing schools for secondary transfers too. But am feeling okay despite E feeding almost constantly through the night every 1-3 hours and refusing pretty much all food in the day too. Think I am going to post on bf section saying HELP as am thinking of packing it in, if there had been 24 hour BOOTS at end of my road last night I would have been down there like a shot with kids in tow at about midnight for a stack of bottles and some formula. GG, any suggestions for me, am at break point really as I can't see how I can keep up with this. Is this common at this stage do you know, have never bf past this stage before?
Sorry for self post, love and hugs to you all and hope you have great meet up on the 8th?
Don't know what size E's feet are but all mine so far have had 5 and half F as first shoes at @14 months. Ds1 now has size 11 feet.
RIght, whingy crawly baby at my leg saying "Moomy" or that nearly said [girn] which was poss more appropriate.........byee

Oh, dh showed me this video this morning which was good for a smile if you fancy, here it is OK GO's treadmill dance....

Rodeo · 28/09/2006 12:22

Morning (is it still?!)
Hi Londoner & Nova, you've both been missed
Oh Londoner, the bf does sound tough, I've never got to feeding past 9 months, but I do remember it's usually due to me getting fed up and wanting to be left alone, which is natural I suppose. I always felt a bit sad afterwards but the babies never seemed to notice that they weren't bfing anymore. Charming! You've done so well and nobody would bat an eyelid at you stopping now - or persevering. It's a decision only you can make (but you may not feel happy either way ) Good luck whatever you decide! And Yes love that video saw it on Popworld the other morning (ooh I sound quite trendy now - must not spoil it by saying I only chanced upon it while flicking channels to watch Countryfile!)
Nova, Aww little Nat at Nursery - they make you feel quite guilty don't they? Joe is also not impressed with school either, although I know he is fine in during the day. Is she upset just at dropping off time or does it last longer. It'll take her time to get used to new faces and suroundings, I'm sure she'll be fine in a week or so Are your headaches pg related? Poor thing you seem to have swapped awful symptom for another. Hope it passes soon - I'm sure there must be a light in the end of the tunnel for you somewhere!
Brownie, you sound busy! More teeth for Thomas? How many is that now? Forgot to mention the other day that Jess got her first tooth the other day! It's sharp as well! Yes we'd better hurry with plans - it's only a week on Sunday!
Kiwi, hope you're feelnig a bit better today. Colds are doing the rounds up here too, will stock up on orange juice but am just waiting for mine to arrive! Ugh...
Hi Diege, just put Next order in. I had to delay it because they only went and sent the blooming Xmas catalogue yesterday, so made a few revisions (including a cute 2pk of ballerina tops for Jess -1 grey & 1 pink in the new catalogue pg 325!)
Right, better go, the washing machine's just finished and better check on Jess, she's been asleep most of the morning!

LilJ · 28/09/2006 13:22

Hi there! I'm still checking in every so often to see how everyone is doing. Hope you are all well!

Just a quick update as working full time is exhausting, and finding time to do anything other than eating and sleeping is proving rather difficult. But up side is that Nathaniel absolutely loves nursery and is full of smiles every morning when I drop him off and pick him up. We have numerous 'masterpieces' he's painted or glued - they're adorable! And then there's the Xmas pageant - not sure I'm quite ready for that part of parenting yet!

We had his naming ceremony last Sunday which was great (and thankfully we had good weather) and now have a house even more full of toys - I don't know when he'll have time to play with them all. Off to Italy this weekend with my Mum to have Nathaniel mauled by Italians (hmmm blonde, blue-eyed little boy - I wonder if he'll be a hit?).

He's still only got two teeth so far, but he's almost walking and babbling away (he's finally started saying Mama, but still don't think he's saying it with meaning).

J xx

GarfieldsGirl · 28/09/2006 13:27

Hiya!

Hi Londoner, sorry to hear you're having a rough time with the bf at the moment. I think its a good idea to post in the bf section, I've seen a lot of support for people on there who are needing it. By this stage Owen was weaning himself off and so can't draw on any experience there. I myself have felt at times like jumping in the car to Tesco and getting a load of formula and bottles. What stops me is that I'm just plain lazy, and don't want the cost and hassle! How much does E drink during the day? Until recently Sean drank very little, didn't like it from a cup, and was being a pain at mealtimes too. I ended up giving in and bf him as I didn't want him hungry and dehydrated. Eventually we tried giving him juice in a bottle (I know this is frowned upon, because of their teeth?), but it has helped a huge amount. He now eats properly again during the day and isn't hassling me for milk. Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse, but Sean is still waking regularly throughout the night. I go to bed, he's in his cot, when I wake in the morning he's in bed beside me, and both sides of my bra are open but I couldn't tell you when he woke or how many times I ave been thinking of starting to give a bottle of water when he wakes as I know this helps many people, perhaps it could help you a little?

Ultimately, as Rodeo said, its up to you. I expect you can get lots of support from the bf threads, and you've got to remember that whatever you do choose it will be the right thing for you and your children. I think most people don't get past 6 months, let alone to almost a year , and a happy, unstressed (well as much as possible! ) mummy is the best thing for baby, whether thats a bf baby or an ff baby.

I hope I haven't jabbered for too long, and I hope I haven't made things more complicated. Thats the kind of thing I usually do when trying to help .

Londoner · 28/09/2006 19:57

Hi,

Hey LilJ, good to see you and hear your update.

Rodeo and GG thank you for your support and advice. You both said really helpful things and I feel boosted. Today, gave E an early lunch and she did eat after trying to throw everything on the floor at first shaking her head and saying "NE" and as a consequence has seemed more relaxed, so fingers crossed tonight is better.

Hope you guys are all okay, Rodeo so glad to hear your appt went okay and your dad is recovering. Diege, any further thoughts on job etc?
Nova, hope N settles in soon.
Bob, hope you're okay?
Have a good night all.x

Londoner · 28/09/2006 19:59

Meant to say GG lol lol at you waking up with bra akimbo and baby in bed, you're so funny!

GarfieldsGirl · 29/09/2006 07:02

Morning!

Londoner, how did your night go? I forced myself to stay awake when he was waking and you do not want to know how many time he woke & fed! Put it this way, I'll be going back to sleeping through it, at least I'm oblivious to it then! I did havea thought though re the night time feeding. Where does E sleep? At this age Owen was in our room (his room wasn't ready due to rubbish landlord) but as far away from us as possible and he was waking at night maybe twice a week. This house, however, is tiny and so he is only 18" away from me, if that as there's nowhere else for him to go. I'm thinking that maybe this is why he wakes so much at night.

Hi everyone else!

LilJ, which part of Italy are you going to? They love babies over there don't they, and the blonde hair sur will be a novelty for them. MILs family love me over there and find my ginger hair fascinating!

nova, not good to hear about your headaches, hopefully you'll find a remedy for themsoon.

kiwicath, hope you have a good time in Brussels. I always read your 'wkd' weekends, dreaming of a bottle of iron brew wkd!

Brownie, your regular 5am starts make me feel a lot better. I'm aso NOT a morning person, pre-LOs I didn't see the morning unless it was the other side and I was finishing work, or I had college! Shouldn't complain really, DP has to be up at 430!

Los of sorting out today, party bags, pass the parcels, food........then got to take Owen shopping as he has a party for 3 after his party tomorrow. Aaargh! And he has an inset day today!

tessasmum · 29/09/2006 11:14

Londoner - just a quickie as Ash is trying to attack keyboard and I should be getting ready to go swimming.
Ash is still mainly bf tho we introduced a bottle of formula last feed of day at about 7 mths, mainly because he wouldn't take EBM from bottle or cup. We tried for about 3 mths but he just wanted it from source! I wanted to be sure that in an emergency someone else could feed him and there was also a hope that it might help him sleep through - a vain hope as it turned out!!
About 2 months ago we tried giving him water when he woke at night as I was getting reallly exhausted and it was affecting everyone. This took 3 nights to work with Tessa but after about 4 weeks he was getting even more unsettled and we realised he was waking because he was hungry ATM he gets formula before bed and again if he wakes in the night and bf anytime after 6am as I reckon that counts as morning. I am also trying to make sure he gets snacks in between meals and plenty of water to drink, something I'm not too good at. Camping/teething have messed it up a bit I still live in the hope that one day he will sleep through!
I think you have done amazingly well to keep going with so many night feeds, I couldn't which is why we have been trying different things. Once this box of formula is finished we are going on to cow's milk, much less faff and I really don't think waiting until the magic 12 months is essential.
One tip if you do try anything other than bf at night, get DH to do it to start with. Hopefully if she can't smell/see you she will be happier to take something different.
Sorry, thaat wasn't quick at all but hope it helps

Londoner · 29/09/2006 15:07

GG and Tessa Hi and thank you thankyou. Last night was not better really, got to bed at 1am and in between then and 7am fed 4 times! But I feel alot better about things having asked for advice on here and received so much support and helpful suggestions, makes me emotional. Also read on Kellymom that babies bf more frequently when going through major developmental stages like now with the standing up and walking - adults too methinks... am single handedly keeping 'Tunnocks' in business this month? Anyway. Tessa, I admire you for persevering with varying tactics and you GG for going with the flow with sense of humour intact. GG and Tessa it's really helpful to know you're both in similar boats, and I read in feeding forum about how a lot of the bf babies start onto solids with gusto at about 12 months, and just realised E is 11 months today! Am going to concentrate as much as poss on getting meals and snacks down her in the day and water and see if that helps, at your suggestion Tessa. Naughty baby had pencil sharpenings off floor this afternoon and threw up half of lunch!
Hope everyone is well.

Diege · 29/09/2006 21:16

Not been on for a few days, so just popping in to say 'hi'! Gosh LONDONER, your nights sound draining; glad others can be of help . I'm of the 'bottle of cooled water and they'll soon learn school', endorsed by you-know-who, so at the other end of the spectrum. Having said that, have been fortunate enough never to have to really use it, so a bit of a fraud!!!
Getting excited about Stratford!! Yeah!!!

Rodeo · 30/09/2006 17:23

Just a quick Hello! too
Off to do the weekly shop in a few mins - booo! Hope you're feeling much better about the bfing Londoner, I bet it is just a phase and will pass soon Jess is on cows milk in the day now (very nearly 12 months - a week on Tues!)
Hi Diege! Getting excited too, keep saying to dp (to the point of him saying 'I know!' rather loudly) 'Remember we're going to Stratford next weekend!'
Hi GG, Tessasmum & LilJ and everyybody else
Right must go! Bye x x x
