Hey all.

Last night was miserable.

I've been going to bed at 10 with dh giving her a bottle at 11. The first night she woke at 4am for a feed, and fussed a little till 7am where she had a huge feed and was zonked.

Saturday night, she woke at 2.30 and fed for an hour, then at 5am for 30 minutes, then 7am for 30 minutes and was zonked.

Last night my milk came in BF already so painful I want to cry, and I can't believe how big they've got! They definately didn't get that huge with ds. But it now hurts so much I was in tears when she latched on, and she refused to feed off the fuller sorer boob too. Plus she really struggled getting a huge full nipple in her mouth and didnt' feed well and was up from 2.30 till 7am on and off.. and then was zonked!

I'd like that zonked ness a little earlier please..... and no sore boobs....

melsy · 28/08/2006 12:22

Morning , is it getting busier here ???

Sorry for those with sore boobs , they do tend to get engorged the 1st 48hrs when milk comes .Mine were so hard and sore at that time I couldnt even sleep on them, I find hot shwoers and massage helps , hand squeeeze some off there too. It does eventually die down if u feeding loads and now I only get a bit full just before a feed is due.

Better night of sorts anyway last night, after my all nighter the night before. Fed at 10:30 , then I went to bed, dh satyed up to get her off to sleep, he brouight her up at 12:30 , I fed at 2:30 ish , so had a nice long 3 hrs straight , woweeee !! Then she decided to be awake till 4:30 , and we feel asleep together, managed to get another 2 hrs, 6:30 fed then dh took her down so I could sleep till 10:30 , I shud be feeling better , but feel even more tired now !

Dh is now relegated to the sofa in the conservatory so he can get a decent sleep before going back to work on Thursday EEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK, the 2 weeks have gone quick. I also get less of bear with a sore head during the day and he can then cope with both of them if I need to sleep.

Dh doesnt know what to do with dd1 today , tropical showers every hr , he cant face swimming or soft play , so doesnt leave much. Theres a lovely soft play in Watford with lots to do for lo's (crayon bays , lego bays , computor bays) but it will be a crazy crazy crazy place today.

Me Im quite happy with food ,sleep , nice dvd's and a sofa !!

PinkTulips · 28/08/2006 14:48

thank god, just convinced dp to take dd down to the shops as she was climbing the walls and the weathers no good for playing outside

calebs been awake pretty much constantly since 4am, can only get him asleep for 2 mins and hes awake again, he has wind but can't seem to get it up. he's lying face down on my lap cooing at the floor as i type!

he was fab the night before last though fed from 8 to 9, then slept til 4.20am, fed for 5 mins, then back to sleep til 9.30 . he slept most of the day too, even managed to get to the beach and sat on a rock freezing my tit off feeding him while dd dug in the sand with her bucket and spade!

luna, it sucks when the milk comes, i was in tears as well but it passes in a couple of days, melsy's advice is fab about expressing a tiny bit before a feed with your hand to soften your boob up enough for her to latch on. also massage the lumpy bits as she feeds to unblock the ducts.

kitegirl... nice to hear someone else has had painful letdown.. people never believe me when i say it, but was in agony both times for the first few days and still stings if my boobs let down when i'm not actually feeding for some reason!

well there I was thinking , uneventful afternoon , albeit a bored dh and dd1, I swear dh is a babyish as dd1! And BOOM dd1 has just tripped & fallen into the table leg and cut her lip open , que me having crying fit and dh shouting. Off to A&E they go for another glueing, 3rd one I think since shes been a toddler. Why oh why her mouth over and over ???????????????? , her lovely lips all scarredeverywereboth side now . She takes after my Klutz of a dh.

dd2 has been asleep all afternoon and wont take a feed as she wants to sleep some more !

Oh and after pains are nasty today, unless I have tummy bug?????.

sarahlou1uk · 28/08/2006 16:23

Afternoon all. Can't believe my little girl is now 1 week old today! MW been this morning to give Guthrie test and weigh her. She's put on 7 oz since last week and now weights 8lb 4oz!

My boobs are stinging a bit today. I have been expressing once a day at night to try and cure her constipation. MW says my milk might not be in as I'm not doing it several times a day, but to persevere as long as I want. I can give her cooled boiled water between feeds instead if I want to stop expressing but it's OK for me at the moment.

Found a brilliant way of getting her to sleep during the day instead of having to keep carrying her around. We bought a cheap round beanbag for ds last year from Dunhelm Mill for around £6. Just by chance, I put her in it yesterday while I helped ds build a train track and she slept for 3 hours in it!!!! Now I put her in regularly once she has had her bottle and she's no bother! Was going to buy one of those beanbags on babyworld but couldn't really afford the price tag - £60!!! Thank god I didn't. Recommend to anyone who's having problems with nap times. Made my life a lot easier as I now can get on with loading washing machine, washing pots, etc.,- just keep going back into room to check on her. Just a pity I can't let her sleep in it at night. At the moment, she's only going 3 hours between feeds and it's left to me so I'm a bit tired sometimes. DH says go upstairs during day and have a nap on bed but I can't do that, I have tried but I don't drop off.

How's everyone else doing? Any more new arrivals to this thread? I try and get on as much as possible but you know how it is.

kitegirl · 28/08/2006 17:52

oh Melsy what a nightmare! that's just the thing with nippers isn't it, just when you put your feet up and relax something goes off...

Sarahlou the beanbag sounds like a great idea. I think you have to do what works. Milo has his naps during the day outside in our garden in the pram now (rain or shine!), I jiggle it a bit and he's asleep, for 1-2 hours. I know I know I know wrong sleep habits blah blah but it so works for us! Back home in Finland babies sleep outside even in the middle of winter and they say the fresh air makes them sleep better. Whatever

eenywifemum · 28/08/2006 18:48

hi all!

Alex is sleeping really well in his cushy new pram yay! his colic is definitely improving!

I am expressing so Sal can feed him at night and if I havent been able to get enough milk he has had the very occassional formula feed just while I've been so ill with migraine as well. I've just been pumping myself for ages!! I'm so scared I will pump myself dry and when Alex wakes up he wont have any milk!

Yellow - CONGRATS ON THE SPARKLER!! Its well deserved! mmm arent shiny things nice??

I dont really know what 'letdown' is can someone explain it to me please?

Melsy hope your DD1 is alright!

sarahlou your beanbag thing sounds fab!!

Alex had a bath and a massage and some 'nudie rudie' time last night and it chilled him out so much he was probably the happiest he has ever been, it was lovely! We plan on doing the same tonight and see if it can be a nightly routine, would help the whole family!

SnowBoo · 29/08/2006 09:31

Hi all.

Still bfing and bottlefeeding my piglet but last night when he had a nappy change i noticed streaks of blood. Am waiting for HV to get back to me but been up all night worrying. Anyone else had this before?

Arabica, good news on the coming home front!

Hi Yellow and welcome!

Will catch up on all other news soon!

YellowFeathers · 29/08/2006 10:15

Eeny, great news on the colic! You sound much brighter now.

Luna, you have my sympathies with the engorged boobs. Thankfully mine are tons better now as are stitches.

Melsy, poor dd! How is she now?

Sparkler comes in the form of a new eternity ring A fabby platinum 1 carat trilogy Been wanting one for ages but didn't think dh would get me one!

We had a great night here again. Ellis fed at 9:30 and then didn't wake till 4am and then up at 8:30 so virtually the same as the previous night. Am sooooo pleased. Long may it last!

melsy · 29/08/2006 15:50

Afternoon girlies

Thank u for asking after dd1 , she was seen within 20 mins (thougth id be alone for hrs)& it didnt need gluing, as it will heal very quickly. Poor little one looks like shes been in a fight , but shes ok , just keeps shoving her fingers in and making me feel queezy !!

Glad Alex's colic is getting better , did u get the coleaf eeeny? Just wondering if it works. What a lovely dh doing night feeds , Im thinking of doing the same ready for weekends ,so I can sleep all night here and there. Dh has now had 2 nights unbroken on sofa and Im getting envious !

oh and let down is when the milk flows in/down ready for feeding , in me it feels like a pressure building up behind the nips ,like theyre gonna fly off !!!

Sounds good the bean bag sarahlou, I can imagine them looking really cosy and comfy, dd2's crib always looks flat and uninviting.

Yellow can our babies swap notes , I could do with some nice long stretches at night. Sounds like your doing well. My stitches are still smarting .

Snowboo , hope everything is ok , let us know , I know the girls get a little blood, dont know about boys.

dd2 hasnt fed to well last 12 hrs , she seems to just take 10mins fusses and fusses and then falls asleep. I think its connected to the fact that she seems to save up her poos and do them all at once for 20mins ! so makes her feel full up all night and day. Im tempted to drink a little orange juice to help , it seems to go like this every few days. Other than that she normally has a nice long feed, unless shes taking far to much ????

BigHotMama · 29/08/2006 18:30

Hi girls can I join you all? I had baby boy called Jackson Lee on 21st August weighing 8lb 11.5oz by emergency c-sect - wont go into details but it was not the birth I expected and after waiting 14 days I was just relieved when the doc said it was the best option. He is absolutely gorgeous and is feeding really well at my boobies. (Thank god for nipple shields!!!)

Havent had chance to read up everyone's messages yet but looks like we're all experiencing sore nips, sore stitches, leaky boobs, etc. My head still feels like its in the clouds at the moment and am loving every minute of being a mommy.

One little problem I'm getting with Jackson is he seems to wee through his clothes and up his back? Anyone getting this? Having to change his sheets once a day and clothes 3 times a day - is this the norm with boys?

YF you mentioned having bloods done for iron, I had mine done before leaving hospital and they said my iron was ok but when midwife came to my house she said they should have prescribed me extra tablets for iron and also they had only prescribed me Co-Codamol and they should have prescribed me extra painkillers for a c-sect. They have made me bit constipated and my poo turned black and hurt like hell!

Hope everyone else is doing well x

purpleturtle · 29/08/2006 18:43

Not got much time as Elijah has just woken up, but BHM - changing a baby's clothes 3 times a day sounds about normal to me! At least you're only talking about wee, in our house, it's usually poo shooting straight out the nappy.

Right am off to feed my boy. Thankfully, boobs are feeling much better now, and the scabs have pretty much disappeared. See you soon.

kitegirl · 29/08/2006 19:37

Congratulations BHM - another lovely name! re: weeing through nappy, when they are little it's v common but make sure nappy fits properly, especially the bits around the legs, pull the flaps out so that they fit snugly and don't let any wee out!

I am so so so so so tired... thanks to a toddler who wakes up at 6am and doesn't nap. But really pleased we are still breastfeeding without problems. Another day done, both boys are in bed and quiet (touch wood...) and I am going to go and reward myself with a glass of wine
xxx

sarahlou1uk · 29/08/2006 21:11

Congrats BHM! Love the name

lunavix · 29/08/2006 21:45

Congrats BHM

I'm thinking either kiera or myself (or both?) may have thrush.. was reading the breast pump box (lol) and apparently it causes shooting pains in your boobs.... which sounds terribly like what I've been suffering with. Going to have to pay a visit to the GP tomorrow. Also going to try and find a breastfeeding counseller around here, really want this to work out!

How is everyone coping with their toddlers? I thought we were doing great with ds, he loves his little sister, and while he's started challenging us in a few ways (running off, lots of 'nos' etc) he's seemed really happy. He got up from his nap, and seemed really sad, then asked for the phone, we asked who he wanted to speak to and he said 'granny' and we phoned her and he burst into tears and just sobbed down the phone I have no idea if it's anything to do with the changes at all but it really broke my heart. She picked him up and gave him dinner at hers and he's come back much happier.

hoppybird · 30/08/2006 00:48

Hello everyone!
My first outing on this thread! Not really had a chance to get onto the computer - been trying to rest as much as possible in between feeds.

Nice to see so many of you here - just too many of you to aknowledge atm, but congrats to all the other new mummies I've not congratulated before!

Julia is still very tiny but the hospital MW was pleased with her progress, despite the fact that she hadn't quite got back up to her birth weight (5lb 2oz) again. She has skinny arms and legs, but her face is chubbing out, and she's feeding well, despite not latching on properly on the left side.

I didn't mention in my birth announcement that the hospital did something I considered really unusual. As my little dd had a low temperature (due to littleness), she was placed in my bed to sleep next to me at night to normalise her temperature. The first night I was scared I'd roll over on her, which was silly, as that wouldn't have happened due to my section scar being painful, but it was lovely to have her next to me during my hospital stay (she sleeps in the moses basket at home) Has anyone else been asked to co-sleep with their babies - do you think that sounds an unusual move for a hospital?

hoppybird · 30/08/2006 00:54

Gosh, more posts already - I type too slowly. Congratulations BHM! I only got paracetamol and volatrol for my painkillers - was on co-codamol for my em-section, which was far more painful, and they had me on morphine the first night, which I didn't have (and didn't need) this time around. Don't know why.

Luna - thrush feels like red hot needles going into your nipples when latching on. Your baby would also have little white spots on their tongue. I had it with ds - was excruciating, but easily curable if you use the meds your given religiously.

YellowFeathers · 30/08/2006 11:26

Hi girls

Hoppybird, I didn't have co-sleeping this time but when I had dd, the MW's told me to do it to help BF. I wasn't bothered at the time but I fell asleep on both occasions I tried it and looking back it was not a clever move as I was so knackered from delivery etc.

Melsy, glad to hear dd is ok apart from Mike Tyson war wounds!

Congratulations BHM! Lovely name

I'm happy to report another great evening was had here again (sorry for boasting!). Although we think Ellis may have missed out on a feed at some point in the day. He normally has 2 feeds in quick succession in the evening and he didn't do that yesterday so after his 9:30pm feed he didn't settle and dh ended up feeding him again before midnight and then he was sick so dh couldn't settle, lol! But he didn't wake till 5am and then 9am so if we'd have got the feeds right that night it would have been perfect!

We also had our first outing yesterday. Went to show Ellis off at dh's work. We may venture into town today too.
I swear Arnica is truly magnificent!

Have a good day everyone!

melsy · 30/08/2006 14:08

Hi BHM , welcome over here !!! U sound all loved up , its lovely isnt it that feeling.

What a night , it was a blur of feeding and pain , I think I may have thrush in right boob (have stabbing pains in nipple & very tender breast) & it got totally hard and engorged from dd2 not feeding properly yesterday night.Ive managed to express 2oz off for a feed later and to help calm down the engorgment . Have a gp's appt Friday to sort out the nethers so will have to sort out this too. LOL I have every bloomin ailment going !

Got discharged today from midwives as dd2 is now 8lb 2.5 oz !!!!!!!!!!! wot a guzzler she is, thats 10lb gain in 2 weeks! So different to my poor little dd1's time at this stage. Me howevers still have anemia and all problems donw below, Im still as white a a ghost. Its gonna take another 2 weeks for my HB to go up, even with my good diet.

Was going to go out for lunch today , but dh isnt feeling well , such a shame as last day together as he goes back to work tommorow. To make me feel better and have a little hrs break Im going to get my nails done later , dh can feed as he hasnt yet. Just hoping shell take to a bottle as shes been having a dummy, who knows!

Think I might express again later so dh can do a dream feed of sorts at 11 ish so I can go to bed early.

Sorry about the essay , Im battling is all and needing to get back on top of things, but my bodys not playing ball.

PinkTulips · 30/08/2006 14:11

hoppy, my hospital do that too as it calms them to be close to you and regulates their temp. was petrified with dd at first but kept it up at home and with caleb i just automatically pulled him into the bed with me. ontop of the other benefits i figure it must be terrifying for them to be inside you for 9 months then to suddenly be plopped in a cold cot on their own.

congrats again BHM

im glad alex is better and esja is home and if ive missed anyone im sorry just glad you are all well can you believe its the last day of august today

love jayne

eenywifemum · 30/08/2006 22:23

Congrats BHM! btw Alex does that - wee goes up his back. Definitely point his penis downwards and also when you strap his nappy on make sure there are no gaps around the legs. Also try different nappies. We got some Huggies in their preemie size as when he was first born newborn nappies swamped him and they didnt contain ANYTHING. Tesco nappies are good although they dont do preemie sizes. Anyway he is in newborn size now (nappies, still not with clothes!) Also Salamander and I both thing Jackson is a brilliant name!!! LOVE IT!

VERY good news - Alex was weighed yesterday and he is a WHOPPING 7lb 9oz!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its a huge weight gain in a very short amount of time and we are so happy with it!! He gained 1LB in just 8 days!!

Melsy we havent tried the colief yet - I am giving Infacol another week or so to see if it helps before I try switching him on to anything else.

Yellow I am so about your lo sleeping so much in the night!! We are struggling to get Alex to go 2 hours between feeds!

Booby I am sorry I missed you on msn earlier, I was on line but hadnt been on the computer for hours. It is SO hard for me to sit on the computer for any length of time right now! And I Am so happy for you that everything is going so well.

Love to you all!

Salamander · 31/08/2006 09:29

Hi All and my nearest and dearest!

Little Alex is a pickle, i'll say that.
The only time he likes sleeping is between the hours of 3 and 6 in the morning.

CONGRATS BHM ON YOUR EXCELLENTLY NAMED JACKSON!!!!

Pics please!!

How old do they have to be for Colief??
