snic · 31/08/2006 12:36

hi all, i can finally come across to the post natal thread. baby Leah was born monday evening (28th)at 9.30 weighing a very healthy 8lb 6ounces and is absolutley beautiful. For those that didnt read ante natal thread, we had an unplanned home birth as my first contraction was at 8.45 and by the time my mum arrived 10 mins later to look after dd1 they were less than a minute apart. ambulance was called and i was ready to push when they got here. ambulance girls gave me gas and air and supervised (neither had delivered baby before) and they let dh be the first to touch baby. Midwife arrived 10 mins after baby was born and delivered placenta, which was taken away in asda carrier bag, which we all thought was quite funny. all in all a very quick but wonderful experience, except poor mum had to clean sofa!

sarahlou1uk · 31/08/2006 12:48

Well done snic. I too had a home birth, but mine was planned!

lunavix · 31/08/2006 13:40

Sal - colief is from birth and its got natural enzymes in it not chemicals. I heartily recommend it.

Congrats snic

Had the best night so far last night, put kiera to bed at around 8.30/9pm, dh woke her at 11pm for a bottle, then she woke at 2.15am for an hour of snoozing and feeding, then woke at 7.30am!

It might have something to do with the newest baby thing I bought, a Swaddle-Me swaddling blanket. She was so wrapped up and comfy I think it really encouraged her to sleep soundly. Am buying another two as I speak!

All she does is eat and sleep! Trouble is she likes doing both at the same time, and I feel like a cow on a milking line...

kitegirl · 31/08/2006 13:47

lunavix what's this swaddling blanket? I want one!

Milo is putting on weight is now 4.1kg, seems to have slotted into a routine on his own, all good. My mum is here until Sunday and driving me crazy - although I am biting my tongue because of lovely lovely sleep thanks to her looking after the kids!

PinkTulips · 31/08/2006 13:56

wow snic! well done! wish we could all have one tuhat fast

seriously though, glad everything went smoothly... if a little quick and welcome to baby leah

had a good night again last night... thankfully as i had a splitting headache. caleb went to sleep at 9.30 after a VERY long feed and woke at 4.30 for a feed, then back down til 9am

Well little piglet is feeding more or less every hour and a half, has breast milk then one or two bottles. Am going to have to put him on hungry baby formula as i can't even get showered! By the time ds1 is ready ds2 is awake and wants feeding, then ds1 wants help with something/cuddle/drink etc so i've been having shower when dh gets home from work! Dread to think how i'll cope when ds1 goes back to school. Have to get up at midnight to get ready!!!

Congrats to all the new babies! Can't believe Austin is already 4weeks. Flying by. Soon be Christmas....

Eeny, what are you eating??? Thats excellent weight gain, soon be in next size up clothing....

hi everyone!

snic what a great birth story!!

SnowBoo I dont know what I am eating!! haha I just eat whatever easily falls into my hands these days! Ok lots of cheese! I love cheese. And chocolate!!

SnowBoo · 31/08/2006 15:17

Right, now off for some cheese and choc. Sounds like the perfect excuse! Must keep up with the bfing as i'm now under my pre pg weight!! Yay!

burstingbug · 31/08/2006 20:06

Hi all,
Congrats to all new mummies and babies
Sorry to hear that some mummies are still suffering from stitches and sore boobs.
I still have sore bits from my stitches and apparently suffering from thrush - and they expect me to want to use a pessery(sp?)!!!
Joe is gaining weight nicely, he's now 9lb1oz, but he has thrush in his mouth and has also got medication
Must go and feed the little monkey and see if he'll go to sleep for a while.
I'll try not to leave it too long before I post again. xx

katylou25 · 31/08/2006 20:29

Well I'm finally over to join you here - Jack has been home for a day and a half now and is doing really well. HArry absolutely adores him and keeps pointing shouting baby and smiling and then giving him kisses! Was trying to feed him chocolate buttons earlier tho! at least hs being nicwe and sharing bet that wont last long!

Had quick delivery - nowhere near as quick as snic tho! 4 1/2 hours and although he had cord twice around his neck was abs fine with a bit of oxygen. Hes feeding about every 2-4 hours and is really getting on well witht he breastmilk where as HArry hated it from the word go.

Glad to hear everyones doing well will have as read throuhg and catch up if I ever get the time!

Kate

trix1 · 01/09/2006 12:17

Congratulations all who have moved over to this thread.

Snic I thought I had a quick delivery at two hours but you were amazing with 45 mins.

Caitlin is waking two and three times a night and im starting to think that im not going to be able to cope when ds starts school next week. Im going to be exhausted in the morning, how soon is it reasonable to think about getting into some sort of routine and where do you start?

Salamander · 01/09/2006 12:52

Any tips for two very stressed out new parents?
pulling hair out right now!

ugh ugh

Little Alex is impossible to settle

PinkTulips · 01/09/2006 13:08

deep breathes sal

i'm sure you've read/ been told countless ways to try and settle him and tried them all so i won't repeat them, i've been there with dd and the fact of the matter is some babies are just bl*#by awkward! [it's frustrating, tiring and you think your the only one sitting in the dark rocking and shushing a screaming infant all night every night..... your not!) i don't know how much help it is to you to hear this (probably none) but it does ease over time, dd is 19 months and has been sleeping 7.30 til 8/9 every night since she was 12 months with no problems. the best advice i can give you is to ignore all the rubbish about baby settling themselves and putting them down in the cot... if he'll sleep on your chest, let him sleep there, or at least fall asleep there and move him to moses basket or crib once he's out cold, and don't get up during the night as it excites them too much and he'll be impossible to get back down, just pull him into the bed and eeny can feed lying down.... if your not confidant enough to co-sleep one of you can stay awake til he falls asleep and put him back in the cot. he'll still be difficult to settle and all that but at least ye might get more sleep at night.

good luck... and big {{{hugs}}} to ye both

sal try one of these perhaps?

/link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BNIP-KIDDOPOTAMUS-SWADDLE-ME-WRAP-NEWBORN-BLUE_W0QQitemZ140023177337QQihZ004QQcategoryZ20421QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\here} this is the swaddling blanket we've bought kiera, it's a godsend. I have no idea if it's helping as she's quite a settled baby but she sleeps so well in it - last night dh gave her a bottle at 11pm, she took 2oz and fell asleep, then woke me at 5am for a feed.

We've got one, and just about to buy another one or two for spares (she's quite a sicky baby!)

Mums/Dads who are bottle feeding or expressing, how much do your lo's take? I can't remember with ds. We offer her a bottle of 3oz (either formula or as much ebm as I've managed) and she usually takes 2oz. However it takes her about 25min to drink an oz, then she throws up maybe half of it???

lunavix · 01/09/2006 13:30

hmm.

here

melsy · 01/09/2006 13:56

Pink you summed it all up perfectly with the screaming and shushing scene !!!We should all come online at those times and have a cry together, we had one of those night last till gone 11am it was all touch and go , as it looked as if I was gonna have to throw my precious EBM down the sink as she decided after screaming for 2hrs to the fall into a knock out cold sleep just ariund the time she normally feeds (shes got herself on a 3hr thing), dh just maganged to sort of dream feed her and then I had the same at 2pm -5pm fussing crying and fretty , windy baby , who wont burp aaaaaaaaaRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Sal keep saying "it wont last, it wont last, it wont last". It just feels like it will never end , but this time is only for the 1st few mths, if that with some babas.

I think Ive been mad to let dh sleep downstairs UNDISTURBED as now Im DISTURBED , Im so stressed and tired. To top it all a contract Ive been doing has gone horribly horribly wrong and I just can bare to sort it all out , its making me sick to my stomach , the last thing I need. I didnt want to think about work till April May next year , but this has been hauntning me for mths. [INSERT CRY EMOTICON].

SnowBoo · 01/09/2006 14:02

Sal, the one thing that has worked for both ds's is either my hairdryer or the hoover!! Luckily neighbours are very understanding and work most nights. (Hmmm wonder why that is??? )
Might be worth a shot. I actually made a tape for ds1 of the hoover so he had 90mins of white sound. Loved it. And he was never frightened of the hoover so i think that helped.

Otherwise do as melsy suggests and keep reciting in your head! Does get better so keep your chin up. And eeny too.

Salamander · 01/09/2006 15:07

thanks all of you for the great advice
we will keep persevering, (obviously, no choice!) and wait for it to improve

i feel so sorry for him, we both do.

it can't be nice to be that age and feel discomfort and have no way of dealing with it.

have already got our eyes on a swaddling blanket and downloaded a video on swaddling from the internet, so will report back!

THANKS AGAIN, on behalf of both Eeny and Myself

freddysays · 01/09/2006 17:00

I found you....i couldnt find this thread..must be the lack of sleep

Rafferty is great he got a fine pair of lungs though and as a 10lb7 born he is insatiable...i fed him myself (just over 2 weeks) until today but i have relented to the bottle..sore boobs heading my way, no fear i have an express machine so I will wind it down slowly.

We all fine but our biggest challenge is keeping our 1st born entertained, he is a almost 3yr old with boundless amount of energy..i never noticed until no.2 came along...still cbeebies is a godsend

Been skim reading through the posts but not up to date. Hope your all okay and enjoying this first bit.

I hated it last time as I tried to force myself into bf when I really didnt enjoy it..this time round I have emacipated myself from all the gulit and pressure I gave to myself last time and i am really enjoying this new little man that basically sleeps and eats!

Moto being do not feel any pressure to do anything that does not feel right for you at any stage of the parenting game there are so many decisions to make along this journey and the truth is only you know whats best. Happy mums make happy babies x

olivo · 01/09/2006 18:44

hi everyone- no time to read the posts as only out of hospital for a couple of hours.

Baby Holly was born on monday morning by emergency c-section - long story which i will post when i'm home. she has been in SCBU since then but is making really good progress and i have started feeding her today - hopefully she will be out of special care in next few days and can come home later in the week. fingers crossed.
she is totally gorgeous and we are over the moon.

hope most people are now on this thread - i look forward to catching up and I'll be in touch soon.

a very proud olivo x

kitegirl · 01/09/2006 21:24

congratulations Olivo, hope your Holly is ok and that she can come home soon. Also hoping that you are ok.

Sal, Melsy and others with awkward babies... I'm in your club. Can't get Milo to bring up wind, the poor love is in so much pain after every feed that it takes ages to settle him. I'm breastfeeding and exhausted. Also such a shock because DS1 was a very very very easy baby, good sleeper and feeder from day 1. But every day they are one day older....

Melsy you really don't need the added stress from work. Is there any way you can forget about it for now. big hugs xxx

sarahlou1uk · 01/09/2006 22:33

Congrats Olivo.

Eeny/Sal - are you feeding Alex yourself? If you are, have you tried expressing and then giving him the milk in Dr Brown bottles? These were the only ones that worked for Jack. Before, I used to be up several hours a night pacing the floor trying to get his wind up while he was screaming his head off. Fingers crossed, don't seem to have that problem with Molly
