hello sal, sorry to hear you and eeny aren't having the best time of it at the moment..... just keep repeating this mantra to yourselves ... 'this too shall pass'

before you know it he'll be laughing and smiling and chattering and eating like a pig and all this will be a distant memory

Ahhhhh!
At last I can join lol

Hope your all ok, I haven't had the chance to read but will do when I get 5 mins (will I get them anymore?)

Ellis is fabbyola. Had a crack at BF got him to latch on a couple of times for half hour feeds and expressed a bit but it just wasn't meant to be so he's happily bottle feeding now, the little beastie!
Had to have an episiotomy so have stitches everywhere but they're not too bad. I just look like John Wayne when I need to walk.
One thing I am pleased to say though is that I managed the labour and birth with no pain relief what so ever! My Tens machine convieniently clapped out on me last minute so I only had 2 of the patches and towards the end they were taken off me anyway. So in that respect I am really proud of myself.

I'm going to try and get a picture on anyway and I hope to be abck and chatting to you all soon.
xx

PinkTulips · 25/08/2006 21:57

hi yellow... well done on the no pain relief, it's such a great feeling knowing you did it all yourself isn't it? can't wait to see pics of ellis, like the name btw, unusual...where'd you get it from?

caleb's asleep.... yet again.... and dp is hogging the tv to play his video game he got for his birthday so i'm bored out of my mind on the pc. think i might just have an early night and get some time in the bed without caleb attached to me.

Hello all, Congratulations to all the new mommies, BabiesEverywhere Sarahlou1uk and yellowfeathers and anyone else I may have missed.

I still cannot beleive I have a dd and she is so good, my ds had colic so I am waiting for this to start but up to now (1 week) she has been a pure angel I feel so lucky to have her she is amazing - I have not heard her cry me and dh are mesmerised by her.

Anyway, she is being bottle fed the amnio comfort 1 by cow & gate and its fantastic - brilliant stuff, started bf but was just not getting to grips with it at all.

Sal & Eeny the colic does pass I know its very difficult at the time I remember it well.

My stitches are starting to heal, I still find it difficult to move around but it is getting easier.

I have noticed a sharpish pain in my belly button the last couple of days its really quite sensitive and sore - does anyone know what this might be - I never had it before.

Congratulaions on bringing Esja home Arabica

YellowFeathers · 26/08/2006 10:56

Hi Arabica!
Great to hear your back home. Hows baby Esja doing?

Just wanted to ask you girls, have any of you had blood tests since birth? Have got my MW coming today and I didn't know wether she'll want to do one for iron levels.

Feeling quite tired now although totally besotted Ellis is doing really well with feeding. He was up twice last night so all in all not bad going I don't think. Lets hope it lasts!
He hasn't had a bath yet apart from the one after birth and he only got that because he pooed everywhere lol! Was told to leave him because he was suffering with headache from the forceps and now I don't want to bath him in case that lovely smell goes away!

Hope your all ok
xxx

PinkTulips · 26/08/2006 11:21

congratulations arabica! you must be over the moon

feathers, i've always been told by the nurses not to bath them til the cord comes off anyway so that gives you and excuse to hang onto the new baby smell for a while

i haven't had blood tests done but the policies might be differant over here so that no help to you!

OP posts:
trix1 · 26/08/2006 11:45

Yellow I have not had any blood tests done either.

Ive only given Caitlin one bath since she was born 8 days ago.

sarahlou1uk · 26/08/2006 11:46

Hi everyone. Finally got around to posting - Molly is keeping me occupied!

Sal - yes, it is definitely a tooth! MW says she hasn't delivered a baby before with a tooth so she's a first! Bloody hurt like hell when she bit my boob!!

Eeny - my 1st ds had colic so I know what you are going through. I spent nights upon nights just pacing the floor with him rubbing his back. It does eventually go away, but it seems like forever. Keep your chin up lass (as we Sheffielders say!).

Molly is suffering a bit at the mo. She's bottle feeding but has been suffering from constipation for the past 2 days. Have been expressing milk for her and also giving her a bit of boiled water between feeds. Anyone else have any suggestions for me????

Got to go now, will post again later. Take care everyone.

trix1 · 26/08/2006 12:55

What milk are you feeding Molly with Sarah? Apart frem the expressed breast milk.

melsy · 26/08/2006 13:15

Hiya all

Not so great me , althugh feeding is going well ,such a change after dd1. Went to emergency gp today , as seemed to be burning & itchy down below and weeing hurts , had hot bath yesterday afternoon and ended up with headache sickness and cold shivers. Thought something was up and low and behold have infection in stiches and a nice batch of thrush too LOVELY. So its more pills for me , could open my own boots !! what with the ferrous , antibiotics, canestan cream , paracetomol etc !ahhh well only ailments , thankfully not quite yet gone in the head, if only a bit as dd2 likes to have me up at 4am for ageeeees!!

Sarah Id suggest some orange juice for you , so it comes through in the expressed milk.

Welcome home Arabica & yellow xxx

Quite an experience isnt withought pain relief , makes u feel u can cope with soo much after. I got so confused with tens nr the end, it wasnt much help!!!!

I had full blood count done, but only because I requested, as fil said I was anemic.

sarahlou1uk · 26/08/2006 15:43

Trix - I was using SMA like I did with ds but she kept bringing it back. She's now on Farleys which seems to suit her better.

Melsy - thanks for the oj tip. I'll get some when I go shopping.

lunavix · 26/08/2006 18:10

Hi everyone.. I'm so chuffed I can finally post on here!

Birth with Kiera (we aren't sure if we are spelling it keira or kiera yet so I may swap between ) was.... traumatic in a cave-woman drug-free kind of way - like you YF only had tens and ripped it off. Will post the gruesome story in birth announcements when I get a chance!

Totally in love with my wee girl. Been bfing which I couldn't do with ds, and I'm loving the closeness but it bloody hurts! Is it meant to? We're planning on giving her a bottle at 11pm each night in an attempt for her to sleep through (I'm not a nice person when tired!) but she refused it last night lol.

Will post more soon, sorry don't have much time have to go do the grocery shop!

xx

eenywifemum · 26/08/2006 20:52

hi! Congratulations Luna and Yellow and all the other new Mummies I know I have missed in my colicky daze!

Alex has had a better day today but now that we are going into the evening he is getting much fussier, poor thing. But anyway I slept all night last night which I badly needed - Sal stayed up with Alex for me.

Luna it hurts me when Alex latches on but it only lasts a few seconds and while he is actually sucking it doesnt hurt at all.

We got our pram today!! Mamas & Papas pliko pramette. I LOVE IT!! It pushes like a dream and he is so comfy in it he slept for ages!! Its really really great!

Hope you are all doing well!

lunavix · 26/08/2006 21:54

hmm I think somethings going wrong then. Will keep at it until Monday when mw comes over. I absolutely love feeding (bar the pain) I never felt for ages that I had a bond with ds and I think bottle feeding didn't help - I'm not saying it's the fault of that, I'm very much not anti-bottle, I'm pro-sleep lol. But it didn't help. But I really feel she's mine, as I'm feeding her and she needs me

Is the colic improving? We're off to buy our first lot of colief tomorrow lol we're using it as a preventative measure in her whole 3oz of milk. I'd like to be expressing it, but havne't got a pump yet and tbh I'm way too sore. I take it your expressing is going well if Sal's up during the night? We used to take it in turns with ds too. In fact technically up until dd was born we still did, just in case, one night on each in turn! You sleep better knowing you definately don't have to get up.

Just seen glad Esja is home Arabica. How is she?

We topped and tailed dd (I have to call her that due to no idea how to spell it yet lol) yesterday and will again tomorrow. Put the tiniest ever drop of johnsons on her head to keep a nice baby smell!

PinkTulips · 26/08/2006 23:57

luna, it can be quite sore for a while as your nipples get used to it and let down can sting a bit however it could be that shes not latched quite right. it's important that she takes as much of the nipple into her mouth as possible and that more areola is showing on top than bottom. also make sure that her bottom lip isn't curled, gently use your finger to uncurl it if it is. ring the mw and get her to come round and check your latch.

also the bottle at night won't be helping as its a differant sucking motion and could be contributing to the soreness.... if you're worried about sleep take her into the bed with you, i co-sleep with mine when i'm feeding and it's a life saver... no need to be getting up at all during the night... babiy rustles, you shove your boob in and go back to sleep... and you get lots of snuggling baby thrown in for good measure!

Morning all
Hope you all had a reasonable night

Funny about the blood tests. It does seem to vary on different areas. It just confuses me when they ask if I am on iron supplements. How on earth can I be when they haven't done a test to see if I need them!!!

Felt a total donkey last night. I'd been having chest pain since coming home on Friday so me being me I thought I had a blood clot in my lung and I wasn't going to wake up! Anyway a lovely Dr came out in half an hour to check me over and diagnosed it muscular pain At least I slept though lol!

Melsy, I keep having a check on MSN to have a chat but when I'm on your off lol! We'll catch up soon I'm sure. I feel for you with the stitches. If its any consolation mine have really started to sting today so they must be tightning up now. How on earth an episiotomy is classed as a second degree tear I'll never know!
My MW and others have recommended lavender or tea tree oil mixed with a touch of cows milk and mix in bath to help sooth. My MIL mentioned salt but apparently you need alot of salt for it to be of any benefit.
I had a lovely lady opposite me in hospital. She gave me her Arnica tablets as she had a straight forward birth and no stitches so wasn't going to use them. Am just waiting for them to perform a miracle

Also milk had started to come in last night so am in agony with them but luckily dh brought it a lovely cabbage with the beef joint we were supposed to be eating today. Needless to say no one will be having it lol!

Sarah, still can't believe Molly has a tooth. Quite cute actually

Eeny and Sal hope things are getting better for you now with the colic. It is awful when they get it. I suppose you can make yourselves feel better by taking him out in your new pushchair!

Ohhhh, I didn't mention the lovely pressie dh bought me!
Lets just say my hand sparkles a bit more now

purpleturtle · 27/08/2006 14:41

Finally I get to the computer! It seems that any time I've had between visitors the last week or so, I've either needed to spend with dd and ds1, or dh has been on the computer.

Ds2, Elijah, is gorgeous (obviously). Born after a very long day of contractions, at 10.16pm on 18 August. He was 8lbs 1.5oz at birth, and 8lbs 7oz on Thursday . BF bloody and painful, but obviously effective! After a weekend with a nocturnal baby he has gradually settled down, and is generally waking us twice a night now.

I feel so much better now that I'm not pregnant, and the nesting instinct has belatedly kicked in. Just got the ironing finished. But can I face the front room?

Took Elijah out for his first outing on Friday. took us 15 minutes to get 3 kids in the car! have to go and wipe ds1's bottom. See you anon.

PinkTulips · 27/08/2006 18:38

Happy 1 month Birthday to Esja glad she's home with you for it Aracica... hopefully things will continue to improve.

great to hear from you Purple. lol at the nesting kicking in after the birth... better late than never!

aaarrrgghh... boobs leaking after reading about bf-ing and just realised i haven't got breast pads in and milk is dribbling onto my arm oh the joy....

Morning all!
Had a great night last night. Ellis fed at 9pm ish and then went through till 4am!
Of course it would happen when its dh's turn to do the night shift but hey ho!
Just hope it carries on!

Has anyone got a miricale cure for sore boobs? dear god they hurt!
my stitches are really hurting now aswell. can't sit down lol!

hope you all have a good day!

kitegirl · 28/08/2006 09:17

Hi all,
lovely to see this thread getting busier. Hello YellowFeathers - can we have some more details re: your sparkly present, please!!

Yes, breastfeeding... it does hurt doesn't it. For me it was the let down that was painful and no amount of Lansinoh would fix that! We are fine now as in the worst is over but I still find it bloody uncomfortable, still trying to figure out a position that doesn't make my back hurt or doesn't pull my boobs. Last night did it lying down which actually was quite nice and was able to close my eyes. Don't know how long I'll last this time round but we'll see.

I am, needless to say, exhausted. We are on a 3 hour feed cycle at the moment, including nights, I am trying to tank him up with cluster feeds around bath/bed time to try to stretch his night feeds a bit but still no joy. Resisting the formula bottle as Milo is still only 2 1/2 weeks and I really really don't want to start expressing (last time found it so miserable in a dairy cow kind of way...)

Other than that - my mum is here for a week and I want to kill her. Told DH that we are moving to New Zealand just so that these visits would be no more. Can't do with her 'advice' and 2 hour monologues on weather. At least I can have wine now EVERY NIGHT!!!!

hope you are all doing well with your babies. These first weeks are hard core and every day does feel like a year but it gets easier... at least when they go to school...
