Olivo its little white spots you need to be looking for.
Is she being fussy when shes feeding? That can be a sign of oral thrush.

I think its treated with AB's but not 100% as neither dd or ds have had it.

BigHotMama · 03/10/2006 17:18

Hi all hope everyone is ok.

Thanks for your advice on the BF'ing Pink am trying really hard not to give him formula top ups but when I see him gnawing his fists and geting niggley after I've fed on both boobs it seems like the only way to soothe him? Am only giving him 3 x 2oz feeds and sometimes he only needs the extra 1oz and he's out for the count.

On Sunday he woke up at 7am and didnt sleep until 11pm that night, he was awake for 16 hours?? We were tearing our hair out and it knackered us out trying to get him to sleep. he wasnt crying or anything just wide awake? He is soon making up for it now though as slept most of yesterday and has had 3 naps today.

Jackson is really smiling at us now and its lovely watching him coo as he seems to be making new sounds everyday.

Dreamy thinking of you and your mom, hope your ok? And Eeny hope little Alex gets better soon, your doing a grand job!

Yellow, glad to hear your feeling better about things too.

Very of you Olivo getting more sleep bet you felt like a new woman!

Are we still on for this meet up then? I think we all deserve a good day/night out!

eenywifemum · 03/10/2006 19:22

Hi All!

Had Alex weighed today, he is 11ln 12oz now. Am trying really hard to limit him to feeding no more than every 3 hours. ITs hard he wants to feed pretty constantly but I know this will be better for him and us.

We took him to a cranial osteopath once. I have to say the one session didnt help and I cant afford more. Well I CAN but I would have to dip into my xmas fund for it and I am too skeptical to do that. The osteopath said it could take 4 sessions and at £35 a session it would cost a lot.

YEllow, glad your DH is on board with helping you out!

Olivo, Alex had thrush when he was born caused by the antibiotic drip he was on. The GP gave him a prescription for Nystatin (more antibiotics) and after several days it went. If you suspect your DD has it get it sorted straight away so she doesnt pass it on to your nipples, because then you could just give it back to her again.

BHM Sal and I would still love to do a meetup!

Hope you are all well, Alex is waking I must dash

melsy · 03/10/2006 19:53

just to add with oral thrush, gp told me that it should only pass onto nipples if they are cracked or have open scabs , nice huh! Dd2 also had the drops ,her thrush seems to be taking a looong time to go, as cant seem to get 4 doses in , as it has to be done after feeds and she falls asleep after some feeds. Hers showed up like a thick layer of cream on the tongue that just didnt go.

SnowBoo · 03/10/2006 22:08

Am i the only one not getting to bed yet? i know if i go now Austin will want a feed.
He has been really unhappy today, not sure if he has tummy ache. Has hardly fed and had a really smelly nappy and when i cleaned his bottom he went hysterical on me. Never heard him cry like it!

Can i give Calpol yet? He is 2months (or 9weeks) and i'm sure i've seen 2months on the boxes, or is it sleep deprivation playing mind games???
I know with ds1 it was 3months +....

thanks for your advice everyone. i'm not convinced it is thrush and dont really want to give her conventional medicines just yetif i can help it, although she had to have antibiotics for a couple for days after her birth. i think i might take her to the gp and see if it is, then go to the homeopathic chemist if so.

lockets - you sound like you have your hands full!!

hope everyone is well today. x

ScreamandYellowFeathers · 04/10/2006 16:20

Hi everyone.

BHM, there is a thread for a meetup, I linked it further down this thread. If everyone can suggest dates of when they are free from around Nov time and dreamy has said she will look into venues etc. Although I bet she has alot more to think about atm but I'm sure we'll sort something.

Lockets, you have my sympathies. DD is really bad atm. She doing it at school too. Its so frustrating but its all attention I think and some anxietys too.

Eeny, wow what a little weight gainer you've got! He's doing really well isnt he.

Ellis and I have both been checked up today. I had my 6 week check and have been refered to the mental health nurse for some CBT but luckily its only a wait of max 4 weeks. Have heard some great things about this lady too so I'm feeling quite positive about it all.
Ellis had his referal appt for his reflux and the Dr has said its quite a severe case of reflux purely because of the discomfort it causes him. She has said she will give us Ranitidine (Zantac) which has to be administered 3 times a day but we're not 100% on giving him it yet so we're going to see the Dr again in a couple of weeks to re-evaluate the situation and see whats what.

A few mad days lined up here too. Having our new windows and door done on Friday (hopefully), probably doing something Saturday and on Sunday its dd's 3rd birthday so we're taking her to a kids adventure place called Sundown (should be interesting with a newborn in tow )

PS Changed my name for Haloween!

eenywifemum · 04/10/2006 16:40

hi all!

well the other day Alex cried for 16 hours. it was awful. no more camembert for me then!

today he had his first jabs - and I had my 8 week post birth check. The doctor said I was LARGER THAN MOST regarding my weight. I am devastated. I know I need to lose some but i didnt think it was that bad. I am 5'6" and a 14 or 16 on top and an 18 on bottom. I am so depressed now.

I am going to look for that meet up thread and put our details on it too.

Snow as far as I know you can give Calpol now. Alex is 8 weeks but cant have it til he is 12 because they take into account the 4 weeks he was early but for full term babies it is 8 weeks.

Yellow wish your DD a happy birthday!

sarahlou1uk · 04/10/2006 17:29

YF- we've been to Sundown Adventure Park and Jack LOVED it!! Lots of things to go on, however, would say better explored when you have nice warm weather! Cafe not too pricey and the indoor play centre attached is an added bonus! We couldn't get Jack off the train or the tractor rides, so be prepared to have lots of rides on these!

Had my 6 week check up today and everthing OK. Molly is growing nicely and now weighs 11lb 8oz. She is now in 0-3 clothes although at night, she could really do with 3-6 sleepsuits/babygros as she is quite long and her poor feet look like they are squashed in the 0-3 ones! She goes back in 2 weeks time for the dreaded first jabs.

Eeny & Yellow - sorry you're having a rough time at the mo.

Anyone heard from Dreamy recently? I suppose she's got her hands full what with all her family and her mum.

sarahlou1uk · 04/10/2006 17:35

Eeny - don't take any notice of that doctor. Let me guess, was he male???? I'm 5' 8" and weigh just over 15 stone, size 18 on top, 20 or 22 (depending on where I shop) below. Was the same when I had Jack as I am now and that was 3 years ago. Never had any problems and my pregnancies were fine. I actually lost weight during both my pregnancies as I was nearer 16 1/2 stone before I became pregant with Molly. The only health scare I have had is 10 years ago when I had a slipped disc but this was due to lifting a box incorrectly at work, not my weight. I've given up listening to doctors - if I followed all their advice I'd be a 7 stone manic depressive person on a number of medication requirements.

You are what you are. You can diet but who are you dieting for? If the answer is not YOU, then in my experience diets don't work (or they do for a short time until you get tempted by the chocolate calling you from the fridge!) If you are happy as you are (like I am) then as long as you get your 5 a day and eat relatively health food then what's their problem?

Sorry to rant and rave but it's my pet hate. I don't want to be stick thin and miserable. I would rather be cuddly (or vulupturous like my dh says) and very very happy with 2 gorgeous children.

ScreamandYellowFeathers · 04/10/2006 17:57

Well said Sarahlou!

Eeny, FWIW, the size you are is this countrys national average if I'm correct, so me thinks your gp is talking out of his bottom.

Sarah, we went to sundown last summer and dd loved it then. Its designed for kids their age though isn't it. I love the xmas ride. Dd is really into xmas atm and keeps asking about santa so I bet she'll love that.

Just spent more money on clothes! Dh is gonna kill me!!

SnowBoo · 04/10/2006 19:46

Thanks eeny. He has been really upset today with this virus. Will give him a shot b4 bed.

Poor you with the dr. Gosh, its very rare for people to go straight back to their pre pregnancy state straight away. It takes nine months to grow the baby so you should give yourself at least nine months off......bloody drs.

well Austin is still waiting for his jabs. he's now 9weeks and we haven't heard a thing. will chase tomorrow.

Also, on another note, need ideas for fancy dress halloween. im having a party!!!!!!

PinkTulips · 04/10/2006 23:17

at that doc eeny, if he'd said something like that to mé he'd have had to remove the scales from his ass, twat! like snow said, nine months on and nine months off.... unless of course like me you get preg at nine months post birth without having lost the weight and put on another 10/15 kgs

sarahlou, you're course sounds fab, wish i could find some thing like that, by the time i go back to college/work i'm going to have been out of it for so long i don't know how i'll cope.

sorry your little girls are being difficult lockets and feathers..... my dd is being a nuisance as well at the minute..... she was seriously trying to prove the 'they won't starve themselves' adage wrong so we've had to get really tough about meals.... we're back to spoon feeding her for some meals its so bad.... and that pretty much involves wrestling the food into her and hoping some is absorbed before she spits it out. it all came to a head the other day when she was sick, which she never is, and i'm convinced its because she's starving herself. she weighs the same now as she did at 10 months but is a good foot taller

anyway, sorry for the whinge. i hope for those of you having a rough time that things start to improve soon.

oh, forgot to say, caleb has decided he no longer likes to sleep on the couch next to me, he now goes down at 8 in his cot and sleeps there til anything from 1.30 to 4am, then comes into bed and sleeps til 6/7 am and spends til 8/8.30 feeding and gigglin at me. so strange having my nights to myself so early on! i weighed him in mayo and if the scales up there are right he now weighs 7kg

night all!

ScreamandYellowFeathers · 05/10/2006 07:19

Wow pinky! 7kg
(shall I say it...)
"what are you feeding him?"
lol!

(I hate it when people say that, such a dumb ass thing to question)

Ellis is now 9lb 14oz so I think thats around 4.7kg.
DD sounds just like yours too pinky with the eating. Sometimes she just sits there and we have to feed her otherwise she'd spend an hour at the table with a plate full of cold dinner.
Although the last couple of days have been good as I've not given her snacks in between so shes been hungry. Actually begged me for dinner last night and after eating a tin of tuna, bread and tomatoes to herself, sat and asked for another tin of tuna! (thats a first!)

How did your weekend go anyway?

PinkTulips · 05/10/2006 11:24

oyh, it was alright. a long as i block out my mothers muttering about how sick dd looks and how cruel i am not to fill her up on chocalate, etc, etc, i cope ok

we've had to do that with the snacks too feathers. before we were giving her snacks when she didn't eat her food (helthy ones but still not proper food), now if she doesn't eat, she's VERY hungry by the next meal and its improved matters dramatically.

lol at what are you feeding him...... um..... chicken and chips?

OP posts:
ScreamandYellowFeathers · 05/10/2006 13:29

Lol
I might say that next time in a serious voice or

well we're bumping him up with mash, stew meat and gravy cos hes so hungry.

Micku5 · 05/10/2006 15:08

hiya.. can someone please link the meet-up thread? Have looked for it but i must be blind because I cannot find it.

Thanks

eenywifemum · 05/10/2006 16:33

hi all!

thanks all for the support over that horrid doctor. I am pretty devastated by it as I have zero self esteem anyway and feel too fat as it is. he must have attended the 'How to make an anorexic' training.

Sal and I went out today for the first time without Alex while a friend watched him. We were only gone 45 mins but it was a landmark occassion!

Pink i'm sorry your mum doesnt understand about yrou DD's weight.

Pink and Melsy - I have to apologise, i emailed you both back ages ago and today just got an email saying they didnt go through AGAIN! I still can not email hotmail addresses for some reason. Please everyone use senatorvass at gmail dot com to email me now.

Ok can you all please give me your experience? Alex is 8 weeks old, but remember he was 4 weeks early. He isnt smiling much at all. Every now and then but it is a fleeting thing. we are nowhere near giggling or smiling in response to my smile. Is this normal?? I may start another thread about it. I'm worried he is unhappy.

Micku, meet up thread

eenywifemum · 05/10/2006 16:38

meant to say, I've had a success in getting Alex to feed for no more than every 3 hours! So far it has improved the colic and its nice knowing what is going on.

olivo · 05/10/2006 17:06

hello!

eeny, good to hear you're sounding a little more cheerful - and ignore doctors and their rude comments.

thanks for your help with dd's oral thrush - have been to the docs and got some stuff, she didnt recommend homeopathic . she also seems to have the beginnings of cradle cap so need to sort that out too while its just a tiny patch.

i'm so pleased i can now drive again, have been out and about today and its nice to be able to catch up with other friends with babies - daytime tv was becoming a little bit stiffling!

hope everyone is well. has anyone heard from dreamy?

sarahlou1uk · 05/10/2006 18:11

Pink - are you still looking for a buggy board? If so, I have a Lascal one that I bought for ds to stand on behind my Graco travel system but he prefers to walk as he's 'a big boy!!!'

eenywifemum · 05/10/2006 18:49

hi olivo! Alex has cradle cap as well, though not much. olive oil is good for that, and you can mix it with a little tea tree oil as well.

olivo · 05/10/2006 20:17

hi eeny. i've put some grapeseed oil on it tonight, its just a tiny patch. what do i do after that? leave it? presumably keep putting it on,a couple of times a day?

eenywifemum · 05/10/2006 20:39

leave it, it doesnt need to be washed off. i have put it on once or twice a day but i dont know how many is right.
