morning! how is everyone? i am feeling heaps better although i'm still really tired. dd is up every 2 1/2 hours still in the night and i havent had a chance to catch up in the daytime. however, things are much better with dh, and i am much more calm!

eeny and sal, good to hear from you, sorry to hear alex is still suffering - hang on in there!

dd currently lying under her baby gym looking very suspiciously at the dangly ladybird

can someone let me know exactly what they do at your six week check so i am prepared? is it a proper internal examination? worrying already!

dreamydowler · 28/09/2006 09:13

good morning Olivo I dont remember having an internal at the 6 week check Im sure you dont unless you are having a smear test done Its normally just to check your womb has gone down nicely discuss contraception any pains in legs etc blood pressure and blood tests may be done if you have signs of anaemia etc but dont think much else happens unless you had stitches or something that is worrying you

olivo · 28/09/2006 09:27

hi dreamy! phew - that's ok! wasnt looking forward to an examination. dont think there would be any need, i have a little bit of scar pain but it looks fine, not weepy or aggravated or anything.

contraception? ha ha!! i think one sleeping upstairs and one downstairs is enough for us!!

dreamydowler · 28/09/2006 09:39

hehehe I know what you mean bed is definitely for sleeping these days My dp is going out to wet the babies head at the weekend he hasnt been as involved this time but thats probably because he has been working on building the business up. Glad you and your dh are getting on a bit better now.

PinkTulips · 28/09/2006 10:38

lol, my part of the six week check involved my gp saying 'you feeling ok?' me saying 'yes doctor' and that was it. PHN had groped my boobs and tummy during the first week and everything was shrunk down and lump free.

eeny, haven't had a chance to reply to youre-mail yet but i'll writeabig long one filling you in on everything later today babe

I'd better get more than that PT, have to pay for our GP appts over here, want my money's worth!!

YellowFeathers · 28/09/2006 13:40

Morning all
Olivo, I never had a 6 week check with dd. We had to go in as it coincided with dd's first jabs but when the dr asked to check out me nether regions I had to tell him to bog off because my periods had started again! After that they said not to bother going in.
I've got mine next wednesday.
We've also got an appt for Ellis' referal for his reflux next wednesday. Apparently they're that concerned that they're prepared to see him out of clinic. Strange because my HV never came across like she was very worried.
I've been in touch with a practioner who does EFT (emotional freedom therapy) to see if he can help with my anxiety issues. He sounds really good but I've had another good chat with dh and I'm going to see how I go on over the next few weeks. I'm going to be tested to the max as dh is away on sunday night and then for 5 days miles away in 2 weeks time. I reckon if I can get through that then nothing can stop me and I'll be ok, if not and I struggle then I'm going to have the therapy.
Ellis had gained more weight, hes now 9lb 6oz at 5 weeks. So in the last week hes gained 7oz which is really good considering the amount of puking hes been doing.

I was going to spend the afternoon chilling out as dh has taken dd swimming but a couple of hours ago I went into dd's room to tidy up, only to find that she took it upon herself to not wear a nappy in bed last night.
Lets just say I'm now spending the time scrubbing her mattress! I've only come on here to get tips on how to get the stench out!
Anyone who hasn't bought waterproof sheets for their cot mattresses, DO IT NOW!!!

olivo · 28/09/2006 13:57

good weight gain for ellis YF

what exactly is EFT? i am going for some reiki next week to try and relax myself a bit but like the sound of EFT - please explain!

dd is being so good today, i'm just witing for my mum to leave then i'm going to catch some zzzzzs - but no doubt dd will wake up right on queue.

YellowFeathers · 28/09/2006 14:34

Olivo, it was Melsy who gave me the info on it as she has had it. Its described as Acupuncture but without needles! I've noticed alot of the practioners are also qualified in Reiki so I guess its another "alternative" therapy.

Hi everyone! Hope your all well!

Just been to clinic to get Jackson weighed he is now 9lb 14oz at just over 5.5 weeks so am chuffed but I'm still paranoid he's not getting enough milk from my boobs. He fed for an hour and ten mins later wanted more, I think he'd feed all day if I let him. Is anybody else breastfeeding and topping up with formual? Midwife who told me to do this has been slagged off rotten by the other midwifes, and now I've been doing it since he was 10 days old I cant seem to stop it or I'd be feeding non stop as he can wolf down 4oz feeds after being o my boob for an hour? Have even started offering the other breast.

Had a lovely weekend in Wales by the beach in a wooden chalet, very cosy and nice to get away. Jackson didnt settle at night though and was up every 2-3 hours. My DH was really great by waking up with him at 6am and taking him into lounge while i got another hour's kip before his next feed! (Heaven!!) He didnt sleep much at all so came home feeling even more shattered. Slept like a log the last few days though and only waking once or twice for night feed. I find on days when he does sleep a lot the next day he feeds more as if trying to catch up lol.

Sending big hugs to Eeny & Sal and baby Alex, hope things start to get better x

PinkTulips · 28/09/2006 18:10

BHM, you'll be feeding constantly for a day or so for your supply to build back up but once your boobs have caught up the feedin will settle down. i would suggest stopping the formula, you will have enough milk for him and the bm is better for him. try not to time feeds, theres no need, put him on when hes hungry and leave him to it, buy a sling so you can feed and move around if its the sitting still that bothers you. the feeds do shorten and space out as baby's mouth and tummy grow and he can take more in less time but he's still tiny really, i know it seems like forever because of the sleep deprivation but five weeks isn't very much time at all, you'll lokk back when he's a few months old and wonder where the time went. try co-sleeping so you can feed in your sleeep, the night feeds are the most inportant for building up supply and you'll catch up on some rest too.

BHM - I'm in no way an expert but I want to back up what PT has said.

HV has told me to top up dd, as she only put on a lb in 3 weeks.

However I've been told by every expert that if you top up, your boobs will then think the baby isn't drinking it all (cos they aint) and will stop making as much.

We give dd a bottle every day, but 9/10 it's ebm (I struggle here but we've mostly managed bar about the first week!) as I'm expressing that feed I guess my milk is still just about the right amount.

eenywifemum · 28/09/2006 19:01

hi again! how are you all? thanks for all your well wishes. yesterday was a fantastic day with Alex and today was pretty awful so it is still a case of taking 2 steps forward and 1 step back.

Tuesday he weighed 10lb 14oz at 7 weeks and he is still gaining weight really well.

NOBODY SHOP with VERTBAUDET. They are crap! I won £20 with them through Pregnancy & birth mag and almost wish I hadnt!

Alex has formula overnight while I sleep. I love BFing him most of the time but am thinking about formula feeding more as it settles him better. I am really FIGHTING to continue BFing him. Pink I like all the advice you gave BHM. If I could bring myself to wake up overnight I would feed him more then but my migraine meds knock me out.

we have a check at 8 weeks, next week.

eenywifemum · 28/09/2006 19:02

correction: I know vertbaudet have fantastic stuff but placing an order with them has been a nightmare!

Salamander · 29/09/2006 08:56

my mum used to swear by Vertbaudet, but back then you used to get a real person when you phoned up.

most of these companies sadly now outsource their phone service to third parties who handle 5 or more companies at once
they therefore don't really have the customer service heart beating in their chests and certainly have no great vested interest in promoting the wonderful vertbaudet catalogue

olivo · 29/09/2006 10:51

morning all! am sitting here pushing dd round the lounge in her pushchair as we were just about to go out for a walk when it started tipping it down! she is SO fractious today and only slept for 5 hours during the night! i dont seem to be fooling her though

dreamydowler · 29/09/2006 11:03

good morning everyone hope you are all well. Sophie Jane and I are still doing well. Had my last visit from midwife yesterday who is pleased with Sophie Janes progress. My mum has been taken into hospital so not sure how much I will get online over the next few days We are hoping its a bad chest infection or pleurisy but she has some shadow on her lung Please keep her in your thoughts and I will catch up with you all just as soon as I can xx

Micku5 · 29/09/2006 11:10

hi all, am still around, just don't always get the chance to sit down and chat because someone will need my attention as soon as i start to relax.

DD2 is laying my arms atm, she's not been too well these last few days. Had her jabs on Monday and i think she is suffering with colic so is not taking all her milk which leads to shorter sleep times.

She's putting on weight which is good but she's still small, people think she is only a few weeks old and someone at the post office thought she was a few days old when looking at her passport photos.

olivo · 29/09/2006 11:27

sorry to hear that dreamy - will be thinking of you and your mum.

hi micku, good to hear from you. hope your dd is better soon.
