Olivo , I think it may help to look at the websites Ive linked below. It may also help to do a sort of debrief with your notes with a midwife at your hospital of the labour and birth when you are ready.

birth trauma association

Birth Crisis Network

If you want to talk with me more about how yuor feeling about it all Cat me, I totally understand how you feel. I suffred PTSD as you may or may not know and I dont want to suggest you have this but your having a similar reaction to me , as I did 3yrs ago.

SnowBoo · 14/09/2006 16:49

PinkTulips · 15/09/2006 00:15

pmsl, well caleb likes his new funky bottle! he wolfed down 5 oz of ebm this evening in lightening speed so dp was chuffed to bits that he got to feed him (he still needed about an hours bf afterwards so maybe next time i shouldn't be so lazy and express a bit more!

would recommend those lindham bottles to anyone but especially if babs is windy. the teats are way better than avent too, way squidgier and smaller so he was able to latch onto it properly unlike th avent bottles

olivo, sorry your having trouble getting over the birth, would definitely recommend going to gp before it escalates into full pnd or something. {{{hugs}}}

snow, i take it thats you i just accepted as a contact on msn? i hope so anyway!

Olivo - meant to post yesterday but forgot. I found those Tommy Tippee dummies that were mentioned earlier that has dimples and moves in and out like a nipple in Tesco yesterday - £2.66 for 2. Let me know if you want me to get you some if you can't get hold of any .

YellowFeathers · 15/09/2006 08:11

morning girls. you'll have to excuse the poor grammer today as i'm one handed typing lol!

olivo, agree with pinky, talk to someone if your feeling troubled by the birth. i would say go via your health visitor first as she may be able to put you in touch with a particular person who deals with that sort of thing. fwiw its quite ok and very normal to feel like this. lots of women feel the same after birth. sometimes its a comfort just to know its not just you iyswim.

pinky, am with you on the avent bottles. they are true crappola. i was thinking the other day, i'm suprised they haven't changed the design of them considering other bottles on the market. we're using just dr browns bottles now but when you compare them to avent its unbelievable. even avents newborn teats are rubbish. the milk just pours out.

sarah, are these dummies cherry or orthodontic teats? ellis refuses a dummy. we've tried him with a cherry nuby one which has dimples on and an orthodontic one. might give these tommee tippee ones a shot as a last attempt.

Ahhhh, I have my arm and hand back now!
I think Ellis might be geting into more of a routine now. The last 3 nights now, he's slept from 10/10:30 till 5/5:30am. I'm really hoping it will last. I'm sure this is what dd did and she slept through from 10pm till 8am at 6 weeks. Fingers crossed, ellis will take in her footsteps! He's still feeding alot in the day but if it means he sleeps at night then I can cope with that!

My word Lockets, you need a gold medal. I take my hat off to you I really do!
Horrible isn't it when they're sick.
I can really recommend Dr Browns bottles. A bit faffy as they have the vents in and can be a pain to clean but its not too bad if your only buying a couple.
We've had to buy level 2 and 3 teats as Ellis' milk is so thick.

Have got a friend coming today with her little baby (the lady that dh worked with). Her dd is 3 weeks older than ellis. Think we're going to venture into town and do lunch (should be fun!)

olivo · 15/09/2006 09:26

good morning! thanks to you all for your support re hollys birth; i'm going to go and see my gp next week. melsy, thanks for those links, i had a quick look last night but will look properly as soon as i can.

feel a bit calmer today despite the night from hell. she slept from 9 till about 1.30am then dh tried to give her the 3 1/2 oz of ebm i'd done - she refused to take it from him, he got really stressed, and then even more so when she took it from me! she was still hungry so i put her to the breast despite the hv telling me i might be overfeeding her and causing her wind. don't know what to do any more. i feel if she is hungry she should eat - i try not to let her just comfort suck and take her off when she starts playing but don't want o cause her more wind. have some infacol in stand-by...

sarahlou - i managed to get some of those dummies but thanks anyway - tried them last night but she wouldnt take it , will persist tonight!

hope everyone is ok

lockets - you're brave girl!! and what lovely names your dds have.

trix1 · 15/09/2006 11:04

Hi everyone - how is it going?

yellow what milk is ellis on? It seems to take Caitlin so long to drink her milk maybe I need to get different teets. I would recommend the dr. brown bottles too.

Can I have your thoughts on the sheepskins for the cot and for using bean bags - are you confident they are safe.

Caitlin gets restless in her chair or moses basket but if she is lying on my she is very content but its not safe to have her lying on me especially if im sleepy?

I hope you are well and enjoying your babies.

PinkTulips · 15/09/2006 11:44

lockets, you're a brave women..... i get stressed just taking my 2 to the shop never mind three to soft play. agree with Feathers, you deserve a medal beautiful names as well btw

speaking of supermoms, has anyone heard more from dreamy?

are those baby sheepskins easy enough to get? i'd love to try one for caleb as hes not mad about his crib at all..... has started waking as soonas i put him in it at night. think it's too hard compared to the couch and our bed so need to pad it out with something

OP posts:
melsy · 15/09/2006 12:08

I think dreamy had to stay in a few days ,due to the strepb drip ? is that right ?

Pink did you see my link further down below for the sheepskins?

Trix Im also unsure of there safety , have been holding oiff buying one , but think she might sleep better as shes not impressed with her crib.

Olivo , glad yuor going to gp next week. As yellow says it can be quiet normal to have an anxious tearful reaction to births , its only if its starts affecting your sleep and day to day life and making yuor qaulity of life less than it should be. I think youll get an intuitive sense of wether its doing this.

Im so tired and warn out , Ive just tried to express and its taken ages & 2oz less than normal ,its really upset me.It normally flies out like mad, its not a good sign. Im feeling quite stressed today .

bugpurple · 15/09/2006 12:35

hyey everyone,

finally found out where all us august mummies have gone! hope everyone is well!

xx

hoppybird · 15/09/2006 13:17

Hello everyone!

Congratulations to new arrivals for noodle, ronnie, muninaQ, micro, and dreamy - bet you all thought you'd never get here!

I seem to have very little time, spending lots of time feeding as dd has cough AGAIN, but it's paid off as her weight gain at last clinic was 300g (11oz) in 6 days! Was really impressed, until I saw eeny's amazing 1lb 1oz in a week! Well done - that's really stunning, eeny! Makes all those sleepless nights feel worthwhile, doesn't it?

Olivo - that comment of your HV about overfeeding - I've had that comment as well from a friend - I didn't think it was possible to overfeed a demand breastfeeding baby! However, she has got a point about windiness, but didn't tell you the whole story - if a baby has too much foremilk and not enough calorie-rich hindmilk, it does make them windy. You can tell if they have because their poo will be greenish rather than yellow (this is just purely breastfed babies). If a baby is feeding, then coming off and wanting another feed soon after, it's best to offer the same breast.

All you first time mums, it's really mind-boggling how much conflicting advice there appears to be out there, and I really feel for you. Since having my dd, I have realised that learning 'on the job' and trial and error seems to be the only way forward. :/ As a second time mother, all I know is that babies are all different - even siblings

However, I know this sounds a bit naive, but one thing I really don't get is dummies. My ds always rejected one, so I just stopped trying, and having Julia now, I have no idea what would be an appropriate time to give a dummy - how do you know? Is it to stop a baby crying?

sarahlou1uk · 15/09/2006 17:25

Hoppybird - I give Molly her dummy between feeds (to stop her sucking her fingers!), when she has hiccups (the sucking action helps vanish the hiccups quicker!) or if she is just tired and wants to go to sleep. She normally spits it out when she is asleep so I'm not that worried about her becoming dependent on it. Her big brother had a dummy and still has one now, just to get him to sleep and then he spits it out (he's 3). I think it's more of a comforter than anything else.

I'd rather she had a dummy than a comforter cloth which she sucks on like some of my friends. I just think of her sucking on a piece of cloth and making it all yucky!

Re the beanbag and sheepskin issue. Don't know about the sheepskin but Molly sleeps during the day on her beanbag no problems or worry. Because the beanbag moulds to her body there is no way she can turn over or smother herself. I think you have to make sure that the beanbag has just enough beans in to be supportive without being too hard. Mind you, she's also taken to her Babydan swing! Thank god I took the gamble and bought one of these! She likes it even more than her vibrating rocking chair!

Anyway, how is everyone? Totally agree re Avent bottles - absolute crap. I used Dr Browns with Jack and am doing so with Molly. However, there is a new type of bottle out which is basically the same as Dr Brown but has another little vent inside the long vent - BabyBFree. The teats for these bottles also fit Dr Brown ones and are a lot cheaper than in the shops. I've just bought 8 stage 2 ones for £8 including p&p. I think they are around £3.50 for a pack of 3 in mothercare/boots.

If anyone is interested this is the website

BigHotMama · 15/09/2006 17:29

Hi everyone! Am getting serious withdrawals not being able to come on as often as I used to, am thinking of getting my own pc and internet access as using my parents at moment, was brave enough to walk due to gaping c-sect wound which seems to have dried up thank the lord! Anyone know what the best deals are for pc and internet at the moment? I'm not on a landline either so could work out more expensive.

Luna thanks for the info chick on the Avent pump am gonna go to Boots at the weekend and get me one with my huggies voucher! Nice one!

YF - Lol at cottage cheese sick! Hope Ellis is getting better.

Am using an Avent bottle for newborn but there's nothing coming out the teat so yes am agreeing they are sh*te! But am loving my tommee tippe bottles, nice shape too!

Hoppy, I just try dummy with Jackson when I know he needs a kip but looks unsettled and he soons sucks away and drifts off to sleep. My DH holds it in place for about 10 minutes though as keeps falling out and then he wakes up and cries. He reckons there someone should invent an elastic that threads through and keeps dummy in position as he gets thumb ache lol!

Well Jackson has been golden over the last few days, he had a top up feed of formula 3oz at 11pm last night and didnt wake me up for feed until 6.15am - (WOW but OUCH my boobs were rock solid with milk!) Wonder how long this will last, and to top it off he has had 2 long naps today. We had lovely lie-in till 10am in my bed, then he's been in his pram since 3pm this afternoon and is still looking snug as a bug!

I have learnt a new trick, mind you it probably doesnt sound as safe as it actually is, during the night when he murmurs in his sleep and almost wakes up I pull the moses basket and lean it towards my bed and stick my head in so he can see me then we both fall asleep and I wake up with head still positioned there later on and gently push moses basket back into position without waking him. Its working a treat at the moment.

Melsy have you tried placing warm flannels on your boobs to get the expressing done quicker? Its something I heard that is meant to get the milk to flow quicker or I suppose having a bath is another way! Or some say expressing while your fedding on the other boob, sound bit tricky to me though?

Congrats to Dreamy & Noodle, feels great knowing we all have our gorgeous little bundles to much now!

Hope everyone else is doing good and enjoying precious time with our delicous newborns x x x

YellowFeathers · 15/09/2006 18:38

Evening

Trix, its a prescription milk Ellis has called Enfamil. Its very thick to help combat his reflux. Although it didn't do much good this aftrenoon when he threw up all over me. It managed to get down my top and was conjealed in my bra.

I'd just like to report that I went into town today with earlier said friend and it was hell. Walked there and back and can honestly say if friend wasn't there I think dd would have been lost.
Think I'm going to get a wrist strap and a buggy board!

PinkTulips · 15/09/2006 18:44

i nearly always feed while expressing, so much easier and if i don't baby invariably wants to feed when i'm half way through and chaos ensues. put baby on first, get settled then start pumping and it usually works fine.

hoppy, i give the dummy a) if hes crying and i'm busy with dd and simply can't get to him for a few minutes b) if hes comfort feeding to the point where hes spitting up but still rooting for food c) occasionally if he doesn't seem to want to fall asleep at the breast i try him on the dummy d) in the car or out of the house where he simply has to make do without a feed for a few minutes (theres only so often you can pull the car over on one trip into town!) tbh if you haven't yet had the moment of 'oh god i wish i had a dummy to keep him happy for 5 mins' then you probably don't need to bother with one, some babies don't really need or have an interest in one.

Forgot to say earlier, CONGRATS TO DREAMY!

dreamydowler · 15/09/2006 21:02

hi everyone Ive just posted my birth announcement. Came home from hospital with Sophie Jane this evening. We are both really well. She is truly a dream and just sleeps and feeds and lies content in her crib. The labour was very quick and very intense but I managed with just my partner and the midwife to yell at lol.
