dreamydowler · 08/09/2006 17:10

hi all just to thank you all for your continued support. I hope ellis is ok yellow you must be so worried. Has he been constipated at all with the change of formula? sometimes if they strain it can cause a little anal fisure

dreamydowler · 08/09/2006 17:18

snowboo you could take a flask of hot water to bed with you and a jug if you havent got an electric bottle warmer and perhaps get one of those small fridges to go in your room

dreamydowler · 08/09/2006 17:22

eeny I really do feel for you as one of my older girls was just the same hated her car seat pram cot bouncy chair I still remember pushing a double pram and havin to carry her because she wouldnt go in it. I definitely suggest you get a sling which will last as my daughter lived in hers and i was able to turn her face out as she got older

trix1 · 08/09/2006 19:02

Hello everyone,

Snowboo I do a bootle just before bed with hot water and when she wakes its either warm or luke warm and saves me a trip downstairs. I have not taken her out of the bedroom at all when she wakes for her night feed. The last few nights she has only woken once had about two ounces and then goes straight back to sleep.

Does anyone know when they start to stay awake for a bit longer because she is three weeks and just sleeps all the time. My parents have been staying this week and they said today that they cant beleive how much she sleeps they have not heard her cry once, surely this cant be normal.

Eeny a friend of mine swore by cranial osteopathy for helping sever colic (think thats what its called/spelt)I remember having some difficulties getting ds wind up for a few weeks and it was awful so see him in such discomfort.

YellowFeathers · 08/09/2006 20:03

Thanks girls

Trix, I've heard Cranial Osteopathy is very good. Apparently it can help with all sorts.

Nice to see you over Dreamy. Hopefully it will be a permanant thing soon

Eeny, glad to hear Alex has had a better day.

Ellis hasn't pooed again so hopefully that was a one off.

olivo · 08/09/2006 21:45

hi everyone! havent had a chance to catch up on the thread yet but hope everyone is alright. we are doing ok, holly has been pretty good so far, she sleeps about 3 hours at a time but seems to be hungry a lot. still ,when the midwife came on day 10 she was 2oz above her birth weight so i was really pleased, especially as she was nil by mouth for the first 3 days.
am finding the breastfeeding quite tough but am persevering.
got to go and catch some sleep, hope to catch up tomorrow

PinkTulips · 08/09/2006 23:52

yellow, so sorry to hear ellis isn't well... hope it's minor and passes soon enough.

eeny, hope your're hanging in there

caleb was weighed today and he's 5.8kg (12lbs 13oz) he's in the 95th centile and weighs more than dd did at 3 months. doctors only coment was 'well i suppose i don't have to ask if the feedings going well!'. whenever someone asks how old he is and i say 6 weeks their jaw drops. so proud of my little bruiser

sarahlou1uk · 09/09/2006 09:44

Congrats micromum. Hope you and baby are ok. Will search for your birth announcement.

PinkTulips · 09/09/2006 10:15

well done micro... just dreamy left to join us now!

what are you calling her?

OP posts:
YellowFeathers · 09/09/2006 14:32

Awwwww congratulations Micromum

PT, "little brusier" lol!
Ellis is feeding like a monster now. Hes actually finishing feeds. He took a whopping 27oz yesterday!

We followed the Dr's advice too of giving him water to help him poo but all its done is made him vomit again! So theres a chance we're going to have to change the milk if it continues to cause him problems in the poo department!

Its so bizarre, it feels like I'm a first time mum again. I never experienced any of these problems with dd.

evening girls and one guy !

Hows your boy yellow ? What a worry, with the milk causing things perhaps. I have no idea about boys though.

Well done micromum , think I posted on your birth anouncmnet, I cant remember ! IM losing it.

HIya dreamy over hear, minidreamy can you hear us calling you out !!!!

well done all with thriving babs , eeeny you must be doing well with yuor milk , how good does it feel when they thrive on your own milk. I never had that with dd1 , so its a good feeling, but hard also as she seems to have to feed sooo soo much.

DD2 has put on another 8oz , shes now 8lb 10.5 oz , from 7 8.5 , shes gonna be 10lb's in no time , dd1 wasnt 10lbs till 3mths, its great as I can get the grow bags out soon.

Feeling a bit better today, actualy had a chance to wash hair and get nails done with dh around. Had a very ropey week , all sorts of outside stresses (MIL/ CONTRACT etc) , feeding so much during the night its been really hard not to feel quite smothered and very drained.

Good to know that dd2 should swap her night and day around soon and be able to stretch a bit longer between feeds. I didnt know the reason why they tend not sleep as well during the night , HV told me the following : The motion of our movement during pregnancy is like being rocked , it soothes them to sleep , also there is less oxygen so makes them drowsy , at night we dont move as much and therefore theres more oxygen so they become more active and that cycle continues for the 1st few weeks of life. HV also assured me about her not pooing for days , as BF babies tend to absorb more as its mainly all nutrient, so not much waste to expel. No wonder shes becoming little budda babe !!!

Oh and my hypnobrithing teacher wants to take my story national to newspapers and magazines EEEEEKKK. Just need to have a think about what to write and how I feel about being known for having ptsd / pnd and all that went on and why I went in for hypnobrithing. She feels its shame that she gets a much bigger amount of 2nd time mums going for it after bad 1st experiences, she feels it would be so great for 1st timers to experience birthing in a calmer, gentler way. I just think If I can show others how I went form acute, severe, & terrifying fear of birth/hospitals & medical staff for 3yrs to totally calm and prepared then it can only help and support others who cant find a way out of "panic room" , not a good place to be at all.

YellowFeathers · 09/09/2006 19:57

Aww Melsy. Go for it I say if you feel up to it. You've shared your experience with MN which is a big step and you did so well with the preparation side of things and the actual birth. I think others in the same position as you were would really benefit hearing your "story". Its certainly a positive one!

Interesting about what your MW said about oxygen and everything.

How are you doing other than MIL and the contract? (is this the table btw?)
Have missed chatting to you. Hopefully the laptop will be back on Tuesday
Dh goes back on Monday . Don't know how I'll cope!

YellowFeathers · 09/09/2006 19:58

Oh and Ellis is ok. Just really struggling to poo!
Got HV coming on Monday so I think if it continues tomorrow we'll have to re-think what to do.

micromum · 10/09/2006 09:05

Good morning ladies,

Can't beleive i'm finally here, come on dreamy i'm sending you vibes.

We are doing really well, she woke twice last night and she is still asleep , but i am waiting for the feeding frenzy to kick in. Dh has been really helpful, as my back is sore it takes me a little while to get out of bed/chairs, also it helps alot as she is being bottle fed.
Haven't got a name for her yet it took us 3 weeks to decided for the last one.

Good luck everyone, i have to go she's calling, will try and catch up later.

Thankyou for all your kind words and support

micromum · 10/09/2006 09:08

Was told by doctor before, if babies find it hard to poo (espically bottle fed) put 1/2 teaspoon of sugar in cooled boiled water and give it to them.

good luck

dreamydowler · 10/09/2006 09:18

morning everyone Im still hugely pregnant. thanks for keeping in touch all of you both on here and msn. well my mums prediction day has arrived she said the 10th and 10lb so going for a long walk today to see if that can at least get some good contractions to be seen on the moniter tomorrow afternoon. Missed chatting too yellow Mel I think you should go for it too I think you would be great in fact there are a couple on here that are pregnant and very nervous like you were I will try to find them again Im sure your support and advice would be invaluable. I found it really interesting about babies sleep patterns this one is kicking me like crazy day and night at the moment I think shes just as fed up as I am but for some reason the triggar hormone to get things moving just doesnt seem to be happening this time. Hope everyone else is well you all sound so happy if a little tired but Im really looking forward to joining you all soon tired I can deal with huge and uncomfortable and swollen and tired and achy Im not doing too good at

dreamydowler · 10/09/2006 09:20

thanks micro and congratulations she sounds like a little star and you sound so vibrant and happy keep them vibes coming girls she has to come out soon

lunavix · 10/09/2006 09:20

Ds didn't poo for 7 weeks when he was around 2 weeks old.. he was half formula and breast fed though.

Congrats micromum (and anyone else I might have missed!)

Not sure how much dd weighs now, she was 8lb at day 10 and it's now day... 17 I'm sure she's back to birth weight, and I'd imaginequite a bit over it!

Breastfeeding going well, but she has me worried as when it comes to her having a bottle at night (something I wanted to stop but big fight with dh lol! That's another thread) she'll have anything between 3 and 6oz... isn't 6oz way too much for a feed?????? She'll sleep for about 5 hours after that regardless of how much she took! So I'm getting the usual mummy worries about making enough milk lol - I second your thoughts YF I feel like a firsttimer again!

PT at least the feeding is fine!!!

trix dd sleeps all the time too. She generally has two awake spells during the day (maybe an hour or two tops) one during the day and one from 11 - 12am ish lol.

melsy it sounds great!!!!! It must be lovely thinking you could help other mums in your position.

YF, how is your new sling btw? I was going to put dd in my ring sling the other day but it's huge and padded and it was such a hot day...

melsy · 10/09/2006 09:43

Hi luna , glad feedings going well. The bottle dh gives, is that EBM ? do you express if hes feeding from ebm ? Thats what I do so I still encourage milk to flow & hoepfully stop engorgment by missing a BF.

NIce to see others up on here on a Sunday morning.

Does anyone else seem to have all sorts of question flying around inn their heads all the time and then when I have a chance to ask cant remeber them? !!!! OK think I have 2 , may post them on the main board also :

  1. Whats the thoughts on using sheepskin for the crib and cot ? I found somewere that does them in pink and blue and they are gorge look here , but I also got some info on them that they increase the risk of SIDS ? Its just that dd2 doesnt seem to sleep well on her back in the crib all flat and uninviting. Whenever we put her on her tummy on the feeding pillow shes in her element, she also loves her bouncer cradle as it goes flat, weve put a lovely thick fleece blanket in it for her to lay on and she sleeps well in there too.

2)I did have a BF question (as feel like a total newbie to this)and I cant seem to recall it hmmmmmmmmmm. Ahhhhhhhh yes now brains getting into gear .She often takes the 1st 10 mins really well and then my let down goes mental and she cant get a good latch and starts fussing like mad and getting upset. I know its a mad fast let down and sometimes when pumping I can get 4oz in about 10 mins and I see it sparying out all over. Can I do anything about it , or will it calm down in the next week or 2 ? and if its so fast she must be getting a good feed very very quickly may be ???

melsy · 10/09/2006 09:47

dreamy yes would be good to talk to the other mums who are pregnant and need some support for anxiety. If I can help It would be a good feeling after my years of the same fears.

PinkTulips · 10/09/2006 10:10

melsy... i forgot to tell you, there was a thread about a week or 2 ago looking for info on hypnobirthing, not sure if you saw it but you might want to check it out.

i don't know about the shepskins but personally my view is if you're doing everything else to prevent sids and it really would make all the differance to her sleeping, go for it. caleb sleeps in a baby sleeping bag on the couch all evening and rather than wake him by taking him out of it i put it into his crib which isn't strictly kosher but screw it... we all need some sleep, him just as much as me and the crib matress seems so cold and uninviting.

as for the letdown... mines the same (was trying to get caleb latched on in bed the other night and joe looked over and said 'you got me with that!', whoops ) from what i remember with dd it doesn't ease but as they grow they're more able to deal with it so don't get as upset... and once yoú've been giving soilds a while and they're bf less it does ease a little (for me anyway)

glad to hear your home and settling in well micro good that you dh is being helpful too

OP posts:
melsy · 10/09/2006 10:23

well look for that PT thanks

Oh and another BF query , sometimes Im able to get off 3oz when ebm'ing and other times I can get 6oz ? how does that work?

so spraying melsy is just spraying melsy then!!!

Oh and Pt is that a grow bag sleeping bag , dd1 loved hers and slept much better when we put her into one. Why is it not good to have him in sleeping bag ? or is it more that hes on sofa ? We also let her sleep tummy down on feeding pillow on sofa , one of us is also sitting there of course ,as she has dummy in too.

PinkTulips · 10/09/2006 10:28

no it's not a grow bag... it doesn't go over the shoulders like that... its just like a pretty little sleeping bag with a big hood. it was mine when i was tiny and it has a tag on it saying 'not for overnight sleeping'. those growbags are fine as the don't allow the baby to slip down into them
