CantSleepWontSleep · 09/08/2006 07:38

Right ladies - the race is on to see which of our DCs can self feed a sausage roll first!

Oh, and some of you don't seem to have aged since we got pregnant, so if you've got closer to your telegrams from the queen then please let me know!

i want to get DS a new coat ,probably out of next - I lov etheir baby stuff too 3K.

Anyone ever try a grobag/sleeping bag contraption?

Lewsmummy · 15/08/2006 07:29

Dew - i'm getting one of them grobags some time this week hopefully cos ds will not keep covers on.

I didn't know anything about them so i asked on hre and someone pointed me in the direction of the grobag website it tells u all u need to know, hang on i'll link it.

Lewsmummy · 15/08/2006 07:31

grobags

Chloe55 · 15/08/2006 08:04

I use grobags all the time with ds, have since he was about 6wk old. They worked a treat when he wasn't rolling over all the time, sometimes now though he wakes up coz they get him stuck with them being fairly bulky.

Really really pissed off today. Stood on the scales and I haven't even lost 1lb, not 1lb in the whole 5 days I have been on SlimFast I have stuck to it religiously, walked every other day for an hour and 1/2 and done a 2hr session at the gym on Saturday, wtf?????? DH has lost 5lb and he didn't even do it on Sunday - he got pissed! Been crying this am and dh has just been saying that metabolisms work differently and that it will work eventually and not to get upset. That's easy for him to say when he has lost nearly 1/2stone for doing practicallhy bugger all Sorry, I know I have only done it for 5 days but I at least would have exected to have lost a pound or two by now having given all my chocolate away and not touched a drop of alcohol Maybe that's why I am so upset Can't quit now though - mum has just bought me a week's worth of SlimFast!

Jasnem · 15/08/2006 08:30

Morning,
Chloe - the best response I can come up with is maybe the fat is turnin g to muscle, so you may not weigh less, but will be more toned and better looking. Don't give up.
Haven't really got a clue, as I don't do dieting at all.

Boy was miserable all day yesterday except when being fed, or with dp. Not fair. He cried at the sight of me, then ooed and chatted to dp for an hour.

I'm doing a mixture of mush and lumps. I'm not pureeing, just mashing with a fork, and feeding him once a day. I'm also giving assorted chunks of things for him to self feed. He did manage to break a piece off and apple I was holding for him, and choke on it, but otherwise it's been a success so far. This is much more fun that purreing loads of stuff.

I'm away later today and tomorrow, for a family gathering.

dewmeadow · 15/08/2006 09:07

Chloe - I can COMPLETELY understand your disappointment and pissedoffness. I have been on WW since end of June cos I ve 2-3 st to lose andn I want to lose at least some of it before I get pregnant again! Anyway, my metabolism is SOOO messed _ ive done WW rigorously - no cheating, I promise, - and done loads of exercise and not counted it and NOTHING was happening. Finally, mt leader cut me down 6 points, and Ive lost 3lb, which is brilliant but its bloody hard work. The weeks when I put my heart and soul into it and gopt nothing back, I felt like thumping somebody!! I have/have had thyroid problems after birth which Im blaming and I also blame the minipill whihc can put weight on.

I was on ebay looking at grobags - is there a difference between a sleeping bag and a grobag?

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/08/2006 10:02

We used grobags from birth, but stopped at 6 weeks in favour of swaddling. Have started using them again now that she can sleep without the swaddling. Can't imagine her ever getting on with normal covers the amount she kicks about!
dm - I think that grobag were the original sleeping bags, so it's kind of a trademark thing. I've heard people say that the grobags are better than other sleeping bags, but I can't recall any reasons being given for this opinion!

Chloe - dieting sucks! Sorry to hear you've not lost though, especially as you've had to drink yukky shakes! I'm afraid that men simply do lose weight faster than women though - life's a bitch eh?!

Jas - don'tcha just hate it when they don't show their gratitude! Better that he was chirpy with dp than with no-one though - a nice bit of father and son bonding can't be a bad thing .

Another fan of Next baby stuff here, but I don't have their catalogue, as I object to the principle of having to pay for something which serves to promote their brand and increase their sales!

Flame - thanks for hug - I never get named on those threads, so went to bed happy!

Boy seems to dislike banana.
It's quite entertaining watching him keep putting it in then spit it out over again though.
I even tried squishing it and feeding him, and he still spat it out (then opened his mout and leant forward to try again.
I hope it's a temporary dislike...banana was always my top babyfood when out and about.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/08/2006 11:11

Jas - DD had the same apparent dislike for banana the first couple of times she tried it. Now she has them in some form nearly every day!

SoupDragon · 15/08/2006 11:20

BabyDragon is a nightmare. She will eat magazines, egg boxes, sand, toys, fabric and bubblewrap. Put something edible in front of her or try to spoon it in or gently push in with your fingers and it's mouthclampedshutwillnoteatTHAT. She looks ready to take my hand off at the wrist when I'm eating my food (and yes, I've given her vegetables from my plate - no luck) but will not contemplate eating anything offered to her!

Jasnem · 15/08/2006 11:51

Have you tried rice cakes (they probably taste similar to egg box)?

You could put puree on them if she will take them, and she might lick a bit off and realise it's not so bad.

damewashalot · 15/08/2006 12:03

been camping since thursday, when I last posted we were at 12 posts, now at 112 won't try to catch up too much. Hope all are ok.
DH is home still so now likely to be around today much

SoupDragon · 15/08/2006 12:36

Yes, have tried rice cakes and thought "Oooh! She's eaten them!" And then I swept up

Off to Spain for 5 days tomorrow so I'm going to leave it and start with bog standard spoon fed mush when we get back to get her used to the idea of eating. I'm not overly bothered about weaning her (she's about 19lbs, 6m 10 days and exclusively breasfed so she's clearly thriving) but she's waking in the night either due to hunger or still jetlagged/messed about from Antigua.

I guess I'm just surprised she's so disinterested given her apparent enthusiasm for eating the non-edible. Everyone else's baby seems to be taking to solids with ease from the brief glance I've had!

Thell · 15/08/2006 13:40

hello !
just popping in!

my baby is more interested in chewing banana peel, fingers, catalogues, magazines and bibs than anything actually presented on a spoon.
(24wks)

she is however desperate to reach this keyboard, so will obviously be a mumsnutter in good time

(rofl at duckula thread...but too nervous to bump it in case am blamed for legal proceedings...)

Thell · 15/08/2006 13:42

oh, and bubble wrap too!
maybe my bean is really a dragon.
bought her'That's not my dragon' and she loves it - turns the pages and everything!
[proud grin]

SoupDragon · 15/08/2006 14:57

Forgot to add "computer mouse" to the list of things she'll eat

Keep meaning to get "that's not mydragon..." !

Frizbe · 15/08/2006 16:07

Lol at Baby Dragon Soupey, she's obviously just turned into a teenager straight away, ignoring solids in favour of a liquid diet, she'll be demanding the bacardi breezers in no time at all

Hi Thell!

Jas, bugger re the nana, as they're so easy to do! keep trying him with it as suggested.

Chloe, I agree with Jas, you'll just be turning fat into muscle (my running buddy is having a similar problem and is hating it, but then she has hardly any weight to loose unlike my whale like self)

We're grobag fan's here too lots better for wriggly babies, as the covers go with them.

Well dh has the pooey bug here today so he's an unhappy bunny......

3k · 15/08/2006 16:16

Dewmeadow, DS has been in sleeping bags for ages and he loves them. He is currently in one from Next and it is fine, he has had mothercare ones too. Cheap place to get proper grobags is www.kiddicare.co.uk they were the cheapest when I bought my last one as I wanted the space dog one.

Chloe, sorry to hear you havent lost any weight, I lost my extra stone on weight watchers and have now stayed the same for about 3 weeks. I am always house cleaning, walking etc etc and nothing!! Dont give up hon, it will pay off in the end.

DS very sleepy today and coughing and sneezing. Had to wake him up at 9am this morning as I was going out and he has been down for a nap for the past 2 hours. Must be teeth, he always gets coughs with his teeth.

Frizbe · 15/08/2006 16:32

Ok ladies you're giving me a punt up the bum here, I'm going to loose a stone, when I knock dd2 off the boob in two weeks time! ww here I come!!

Flamesparrow · 15/08/2006 18:06

@ the sly way you chucked in "Off to Spain..."

pmsl @ the rice cakes = egg boxes

Not a lot to say right now... on caffeine detox and am in a foul very tired mood .

Flamesparrow · 15/08/2006 18:10

Anyone seen NAO?

SoupDragon · 15/08/2006 19:12

snigger @ sneaky spain. My In Laws live out there.

I happily kept shoving small pieces of carrot in thinking "these seem to be going down well..." Then she smiled and I could see she had a whole mouthfull of them Clearly BabyDragons are like hamsters...

And I'd gladly try Bacardi Breezers if it would make her sleep better again.

SoupDragon · 15/08/2006 19:13

Not seen NAO. But I'mnot very observant really.

3k · 15/08/2006 19:49

PMSL at small pieces of carrot!!

I have given DS a slice of cheese today which he really liked. Can they eat egg at six months?

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/08/2006 20:01

SD - is she waking a lot at the moment? You've never really spoken on here about her sleeping habits.
We might all sound now like babes are taking solids no problems, but it did take a while here for things to get going properly.
You could always resort to smearing puree all over you breast so that she can't avoid it .

3K - eggs are supposed to be ok from 6 months as long as hard boiled (or otherwise fully cooked).

Flame - empathies for caffeine detox - been there done that (one of the first things that DH and I found we had in common was a liking for copious amounts of very strong coffee)!
