CantSleepWontSleep · 09/08/2006 07:38

Right ladies - the race is on to see which of our DCs can self feed a sausage roll first!

Oh, and some of you don't seem to have aged since we got pregnant, so if you've got closer to your telegrams from the queen then please let me know!

No carpets here except hall/stairs/landing and DD's bedroom. The closest she has got to crawling was to lift her whole body very briefly so that just her hands and her knees downwards were in contact with the floor. She did this 3 times in the space of 5 mins on Friday, but hasn't done it since. This was on a playmat at MAMA group. On the floor at home she lifts her upper body and occasionally looks like she might do lower, but then her feet usually slip.

  • never going to catch up with all of this. Away for a few days and someone starts crawling, someone looks like they have been massacared (sp?) in their own kitchen and someone has become a nappy advisor

First tooth appeared after a few days of hell and Maisie is sitting up well but a way off crawling for sure. Have to get more finger foods into her though.

On a very strict diet now to lose some more weight before I go back to work so no more talk of chocolate please

(Ellenrose exits to find more fruit in the kitchen to take her mind of the Aeros . . . )

Amiable · 29/08/2006 17:18

OMG damewashalot - I'm totally with you on the hoovering thing! DD no longer stays put on her lambskin, but rolls around all over the place. If I don't hoover every day she always ends up with crumbs/dirt stuck on her face - it's not that we are really dirty, just that the rug we have in our living room is a real dirt-magnet, honest!

We transferred her to her big cot permanently about a week ago - she was getting a bit squashed in her carrycot. Only problem is that she rolls over on to her face and then won't/can't roll back so just yells until we put her right. It does make settling her quite difficult, as she will be almost asleep then... oops, over she goes! Anyone any tips on how to keep her on her back, without having to buy extra equipment?! I've tried blankets rolled up and squished around her, but am a bit worried that she will unroll them and smother herself so stopped that after one afternoon nap, cos I was constantly checking on her and didn't fancy doing that all night! Any ideas welcome.

Amiable · 29/08/2006 17:22

Oh, forgot to say, I also have been on the chocolate. Confession time... I used to smoke, gave up when I found out I was pregnant then took it up again a couple of weeks after DD was born However, I gave up again about 10 days ago, which I'm really proud of, but have been pigging out instead Determined to not go back on the fags though, so DP will just have to put up with me being a lardy-arse!

mustrunmore · 29/08/2006 19:59

Controlled crying night 3. 50mins so far, poss signs of stopping

SoupDragon · 29/08/2006 20:05

"The problem with babies that move off the blanket you leave them on is you have to hoover more"

hahahahaha.... not with neglected 3rd children you don't

SoupDragon · 29/08/2006 20:06
CantSleepWontSleep · 29/08/2006 20:20

mrm - that's a long time for 3rd night. Did you stick to it rigidly nights 1 & 2? How long did they take?

Amiable - good job you didn't tell me you smoked before we met or I'd have had to lecture you . Smoking parents is one of my biggest bugbears. I do know how hard it is to give up though, as an ex smoker myself, so well done and don't give up giving up!

Frizbe - forgot to say thanks for your offer re your friend with dairy intolerant dc. The good news is that today I found some soft cheese that is dairy free (thanks to an mn thread on soya cheese last week). Haven't tried it yet, but hopefully it will be nicer than eating sawdust.

OP posts:
mustrunmore · 29/08/2006 20:29

Dairy free soft cheese tastes like poo. sorry.

Night one took about 1hr 20mins, night two took 45 mins or so. But dh did both of those; ds2 associates him less with a good slurp of milk, so its been harder tonight (dh at work). The crying stopped more or less just after that post, so say 55 mins.
Its a good job ds1 was fast asleep, as i hate it when they both need attention at the same time, and I have to choose
But ds1 fell asleep 5pm in the buggy en route home. Put a nappy on him and took his clothes off and put him in bed without him waking! So he'll be wide awake in the early hours...

dewmeadow · 29/08/2006 20:30

yes, well done Amiable - eat as much choccies as it takes {grin] have some Lindt dark choclate or a dipped Flake for me

Thell · 29/08/2006 21:29

Hellooooo!
Lordy, it takes ages to catch up with you guys...and I try to every day!!

Jas...I'm a bit concerned about the old iron intake aswell, as DD seems to be taking her time with this weaning lark, so I looked it up this pm in my Vitamin Bible (not very well thumbed I'm afraid).
Good sources of iron - beans, egg, asparagus, dried peaches, nuts, molasses, oatmeal, clams, oysters, farina, plus meats.
If anyone knows what 'farina' is...
but at least some of that stuff is baby friendly.

DD is currently subsisting on steamed veg, not very interested in fruit, and nothing pureed. She seems to be practising moving it around her mouth more than anything else. And gnawing to relieve her gums.

Jas - definitely interested in the Med Airflow. I'm getting more and more fed up with the Totsbots wraps, and only have 2 airflows in current size. The large ones I bought are enormous - don't think DD will be in them for a while!

Also eating cake here like it's going out of fashion

(and I'm a trained Early Years / Primary Teacher, although I only worked for two terms before getting up the duff)

mustrunmore · 29/08/2006 21:34

Hi Thell. Another teacher crawls out of the woodwork

Must say, sometimes i almost feel left out of this real nappy obsession. But then I remember I'm too lazy for anything but disposables

Thell · 29/08/2006 21:43

I still use disposables at night - otherwise I'd have to change DD at least once, which she takes as a signal that it's playtime again. Occasionally she wakes up at 3am and does a big poo, thereby forcing the issue...and we return to bed at 5am after a good wriggle around the living room

we also have the odd day in disposables when I have been too lazy to keep up with the laundry,...

dewmeadow · 29/08/2006 21:54

Im back - dh lovingly kicked me off my lazy ass to go for a quick run/jog (still confused) before dusk turns to dark. Glaad I went - feel smugly great (but as hell of all the choccie and cake being consumed - speaking of cake, on my birthday, I made the richest, chocolateyist, most delicious choccie cake ever and ate loads of it!! )

Also used to smoke - gave up 7 July 4 years ago as I knew I wanted to get duffed and i didnt want to taint my baby. The first 3-4 weeks were deadly hard - Dh (also gave up) went out for a pint the first week and were sitting silently watching all teh smokers suck on their fags. And then about a month later I went to galway with my friend and got pissed and was so close to begging one from this hunky football player, but friend said she'd tell Dh, so I didnt! Dont miss it now at all though - its BRILLIANT in the south (of Ireland) having no smoking in pubs and restaurants. Cant wait for it here.

Must go to catch the last bit of the mad family in Supernanny

3k · 29/08/2006 22:33

Dewmeadow - I watched Supernanny too. Scary stuff on there, can some children actually end up like that??? Couldnt believe that 3 year old screaming "you f**g bt*d" for being on the naughty step

Chloe, that's great Oscar is crawling. Ben is almost there, he gets up on his knees and rocks. DH was playing with him earlier and got him up and made him crawl and DS was laughing histerically which was lovely. I am dreading the crawling a bit though I must admit.

Really gone off liking this weaning lark, DS didnt eat breakfast or lunch today and instead made a complete mess. I must admit I find it frustrating when he wont eat as I feel I am doing something wrong. He had tea tonight though and ate quite a bit but I made DH give it to him.

So is anyone switching to follow on milk or staying on original formula? I have bought some follow on to try as it was on offer in Sainsbury's. if he doesnt like it I'll switch back.

Flamesparrow · 29/08/2006 23:12

Thell - I tend to be more likely to have to change a disposable in the night than a cloth!

Bouncing here - Been out on my dad's harley for the first time ever!!!! Never been on a bike before, and although I had a death grip on him for the trip out, the return journey I relaxed into it more and LOVED it. I would prefer to be in control though . What I loved more was step sister's leather jacket though, but I'm told it cost many pennies (will google later )

Crawling & hoovering... DS is the neglected 2nd child, who is put down on any floor... he does tend to start off on a blanket, but mainly so DD spots him and doesn't jump on him (apart from when she decides to play the "Lets jump over Emrys" game, and I suddenly notice and yell "NO!!! He is your brother, not a toy!!!" ).

Supernanny... I sat there muttering at the tv "No, she would be a bitch, not a bastard" .

Hmmm... not sure what else to say. Been out all day, but still FLYing.

PhoenixGirl · 29/08/2006 23:28

You're up late aren't u flame?

Flamesparrow · 29/08/2006 23:34

Came on to delete a load of FLYlady emails before bed and got carried away (DH is watching a Jet Li season or something so I can actually touch the pc )

PhoenixGirl · 29/08/2006 23:43

My dh on nights

Not that i'm not permanently stuck to laptop anyway.

PhoenixGirl · 30/08/2006 00:45

I'm up soooooooooo late, how much r u betting that lewis'll be up early?

damewashalot · 30/08/2006 08:32

Morning!

Been up for hours, have read all the chatting from yesterday lets see if I can remember what I was going to say for once

SD re hoovering more, ds is a neglected 3rd child, but hoovering sometimes is more than never and I am flyladying so it has been done this week

I'm not a teacher but I am a nursery nurse, everyone wanted me to be a teacher but the thought of a room full of 7yr olds or older yuk! I like preschool

Chocolate, I'll just quietly mention the huge box of thorntons choc I got this morning that I will try to make last as long as possible

BTW I'm 32 today

Well done for stopping smoking

PhoenixGirl · 30/08/2006 08:46

Lewis slept til 7.10am yay!!! (little wake at 3.30am but straight back to sleep)

mustrunmore · 30/08/2006 08:59

Happy birthday

After falling asleep in the buggy at 5pm, ds1 suprisingly slept till 6am today! Although ds2 was up 3 times in the night, and they weren't the times i needed a wee, so i've been up about 5 times in all

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/08/2006 09:46

Happy b'day dwa!

A bad night in the csws household too. Think there's teething trouble again as ears are being pulled and stroked more than usual.

mrm - do you not just make yourself go to the loo when you're up for the boys? DS1 must have been totally knackered to sleep that well!

A harley is quite some bike to have your first ever ride on!

OP posts:
Frizbe · 30/08/2006 09:48

Happy Birthday Dame so we're the same age, with our kids born on the same day scarey! Hope your dh is going to treat you to something nice today?

dd2 just gone down for nap here, and you've all posted loads since I last looked, as didn't get on yesterday, due to whingy baby....teeth me thinks, due to excess dribble, poos (does anyone else have the teeth/poo thing?) and whineing.....
although the bugger tried it on at bed time, MRM is it you whose going thru it at bed time too?
seems she's happy to boob to sleep and then when I attempt to move her, she just screams and screams for more boob, so last night I went and got a bottle and yep you guessed it, she just wanted me, not the bottle, so I left dh with the bottle (just in case) and her and obviously she was asleep within 15mins...... at me being such a pushover and so soft this last few weeks with her....

Chocolate or cake here, I'll eat anything within reason although due to the above I've now decided we're starting to knock off the boob this week onwards....so ww here I come as of next week properly (honest this time!)
Damn aikido have changed their evening class times, so I can't get as dh home too late, and its about 15miles away....so will have to find something closer to do....(my own fault for living in small country town)

We have carpets - and hall floor is wood, kitchen is lino, which I popped dd2 on briefly yesterday and she rolled all over the place, she can do the front spinning thing too, and is starting to lift onto all fours, but doesn't manage for long either, phew!
