Oh, and some of you don't seem to have aged since we got pregnant, so if you've got closer to your telegrams from the queen then please let me know!

morning,

I'm not tasting his food as such, but am likely to check its temp by putting it in my mouth, and have this slightlty irrational fear that I would do it by accident if I gave meat.

If I was the only one making these decisions I would probably keep them veggie til they were old enough to ask for meat, but as dp is a carnivore, he will get to taste meat sooner.

mrm - we'll know all your secrets soon!

I'm not getting the extra sleep I was hoping for....Boy has been up since 5.30

PhoenixGirl · 27/08/2006 11:11

Morning,

Lewis has been up since about 6am again today he's going thru a bad patch with sleeping again he's waking up crying 2-3 times a night but just giving him his dummy works and he goes straight back to sleep without really waking up fully.

We've both just had an hour and half nap on the sofa and dh has gone back to bed for a bit cos he's on nights tonight so it looks like we're having a lazy day in.

He's really started babbling this weekend he keeps saying 'aga aga aga' dh has convinced himself he's trying to say 'dada' and yesterday we walked round town with him in his pushchair and he was just shouting and babbling the whole way round.

I brought his travel cot down the other day and filled it with his toys and sat him in it and he loved it he's in there now cos i kept it downstairs cos it kept him entertained for ages. and the dog can't bother him either or should that be lewis can't pull on the dogs ears everytime he comes near him

He's ate a full weetabix this morning (mushed with baby milk)

I've got a full week off work this week so i suppose i'll be on here cos i've nowt else planned.

He's getting restless now so i think he wants out of his 'little prison' . I'll be on later.

Amiable · 27/08/2006 13:08

MRM -will email you about meeting up at the end of the week - definitely up for it.

I'm luckily in the same situation as flamey re nights out and lie-ins. Mind you, I think that had more to do with my complete meltdown when DP went back to work after paternity leave. He went out 3 nights out of the first four back at work, and I totally lost it!! When I spoke to him at work on the Friday and asked him if he was planning on going out that night he said, "you are joking, aren't you?"!! I think the fear of another such episode keeps him in line! I have been out about ten times since DD was born - about every two or three weeks I demand baby-free time! We also take it in turns to have lie-ins at the weekend - I was in bed until 10am yesterday! Mind you, I was then up at 6.20 this morning

We're getting DD onto finger foods now - baby rice cake yesterday and a bit of toast today. I also bought her some yoghurts - those Rachel organic ones. They are very expensive but I couldn't find any others in our local Tesco's that didn't have added sugar. Has anyone seen/bought others they can recommend? Otherwise I will be making my own in future - more hassle but much cheaper.

Having been a great sleeper up to now, DD was up three times last night. I'm sure it's cos of her teeth. She now has two "proper" teeth, and boy are they sharp!

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/08/2006 13:27

Amiable - what goes into homemade yoghurt? I've never made it before but you've got me thinking now that it would be a good way to get round our dairy prob without having to have the rubbish in the shop bought soya ones.

pg - amazed me the first time dd had a whole oatibix too, esp as she had pear with it too!

OP posts:
Amiable · 27/08/2006 14:17

Oh, CSWS, sorry to get you all excited, all I really meant was that I'll buy plain yogurt and add fruit/puree myself I'm not domesticated enough to do it from scratch!

I'm sure you can find recipes though on the interweb...

dewmeadow · 27/08/2006 14:17

hi all! feel about yapping about dh yesterday - cut short his ploughing to letr me out for a run - I got last 40 mins of acceptable light. Our wee road is so wee ( and windy) that people think they can drive like maniacs

Anyway, what a lovely dh!

We stayed in the very upmarket "Gresham" on O'Connell St - definitely paying for location!!

the book says to learn your own baby's tiredness indicators and respond quickly. She says if you ignore them, they become overtired and very irritable and difficult to get to sleep. With Rory, I would have to agree with this. He's becoming quite good at putting himself to sleep. Dr Miriam (who my dh says hates boys as she keeps saying how slow they a\re at everything and how fantastic girls are!! ) says boys especially respond well to routine. so far Im finding this to be true.

Went shopping yesterday for special pants for DD, and am about to attempt potty training again. Wish me luck!! She got l;ovely Dora and Fifi ones (please dont poo in them..please please please o god of bowel control!!)

DD is away with Dh in the landrover checking calves - she was sitting up on her booster seat in the landrover with her wee wellies and off on an adventure without me - felt strange not to involved and as if I was letting go in some way.

Jas - Ds was 6 months on 25th too!!

mustrunmore · 27/08/2006 15:48

great Amiable, look forward to hearing from you.

csws/Jas... dont have any more secrets And those weren't really secrets, just things that haven't come up in conversation. In fact, I dont even have anything else interesting about myself!

Just taken ds1 for a foot measure... for the first time ever, he's actually still in the right size shoes! Then had lunch in Ikea, and pondered toy storage for ages. There is no good solution in the world for a boy with big bulky odd shaped toys.

I often wonder about the milk at bedtime thing too.A few of ds1's friends still clean their teeth then have milk. But they're the ones that eat loads of sweets too, so I suppose it becomes irrelevant! I think milk, then brushing, is good, as it stops the feed to sleep, albeit breast or bottle.

Amiable · 27/08/2006 17:20

MRM - just emailed you.

dewmeadow · 27/08/2006 19:25

o yes - Im a teacher too!! did my pgce in primary about 4 years ago. Starting my one day a week principal release in 2 weeks.

mustrunmore · 27/08/2006 19:37

What age are you teaching?

Just managed to get a 10 min jog in , while dh is upstairs with a screaming baby

PhoenixGirl · 27/08/2006 20:41

Is it just me or is nearly everyone on mn a teacher?

dewmeadow · 27/08/2006 20:41

P6 and P7 - its a composite class. I taught them when they were P4 and they are a brilliant class - lots of bright sparks with lots of interesting discussions. Loved P4 - age 7-8 here, and they are just doing interesting work but young enough to still idolise the teacher!! Also, this is a lovely wee country school, so there are very few cheeky wee shits.

mustrunmore · 27/08/2006 20:57

Sound heaven! last time I taught, it was in a school with panic alarms in each classroom, and the parents were very scary!
But that was a very long time ago; I've been in London since 1995 or 1996 i think, and have never taught here. So I'm not in the category of 'teacher on mumsnet'

dewmeadow · 27/08/2006 20:59

panic alarms OMG!! Id rather work in McDonalds!! What age was that?

mustrunmore · 27/08/2006 21:02

I taught year one, but the alarms were in all the rooms. prior to that, I taught reception, but there were 46 kids in the class, and the home play area was in the corridor outside the classroom. so even with a classroom assistant, it was hard work to keep an eye on them all!

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/08/2006 21:06

It's just you pg!
Think we have as many accountants on this thread as teachers (which is what I went on to be after giving up teacher training and doing a maths degree).

Oh, the shoe thing - I took DD to be measured for her first pair of crawling shoes yesterday, and they don't make them big enough!! She's a 2h, and the crawling shoes only go up to a g. They do make some (but not many) of the cruising shoes in an h, but they didn't have any in stock, so we're still shoeless .

Good luck with the potty training dm.

Amiable - had a bit of a surf about home made yoghurt, but soya ones seem to be more hassle than others, so will leave it for now and follow up if/when I can be bothered!

OP posts:
mustrunmore · 27/08/2006 21:08

Maths?
I just about scraped through my GCSE!!!
Just dont have that kind of brain!

PhoenixGirl · 27/08/2006 21:08

csws - the boys ones i bought in the sale were 2h i'm sure

dewmeadow · 27/08/2006 21:08

mrm - they couldnt pay you enough for that!! Panic buttons for year 1 (I think thats our P2) 46!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think thats illegal now - here, anyway, you're not allowed more than 30. Were you not on valium/gin?

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/08/2006 21:09

What's year one - I can't do all this newfangled grading stuff yet. First year to me is 12 year olds, but I'm guessing year 1 doesn't mean the same?

I was training for secondary, and spent my teaching practice confiscating razor blades off 12 year olds (not really scary ones - they got most by stamping on pencil sharpeners!!).

OP posts:
PhoenixGirl · 27/08/2006 21:09

Ave u checke at clarks online

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/08/2006 21:10

pg - I think they prob make boys shoes bigger, but girls are apparently supposed to have little dainty feet!

OP posts:
dewmeadow · 27/08/2006 21:10

Also, only got my maths "o" level (yes, Im a geriatric mother) by a cats whisker. Some key stage 2 maths actually scares me!!

PhoenixGirl · 27/08/2006 21:11

oh ok. ds was a 2.5g a few weeks ago but we didn't buy him any yet

dewmeadow · 27/08/2006 21:12

I couldnt teach secondary - couldnt handle the cheek, especially as my subject is music and when I was at school even I messed and took the piss in music and I loved it!
